That is so timely as I literally just got back from fishing using the prowler! I love it and use the trolling motor. The seat is super comfortable. Has the 30lb thrust!😊
Thank you, Stacee! Some other folks I have seen have really done some nice mods to these. I’ve seen a couple on TH-cam where the guys converted them into full-blown bass boats with casting decks and foot-controlled trolling motors.
@@pistolcreek I know my figuring in buying one was going through the roof. Plus it would cut into my fishing time. All kinds of great ideas out there. I enjoy watching hacks and mods to make something even better. 🤣
Great 1-year review and complete overview of your experience and your personal setup, with this awesome fishing vessel! Your wooden platforms are brilliant. Those 3M mounts for your rods are cool, along with those LED lights you picked up. Thanks for sharing all of these details, Chris!
That's the same mold of a boat I had 40+ years ago. I believe it was called a Water Scamp. Good little boat. I kept mine bare as there were usually two of us. I also could tilt it up on a roof rack to go off-road.
That’s awesome! These are great boats for what they are. All a person needs to get out on the water and catch some fish. Thank you so much for watching.
Another great video of the Pond Prowler! Chris, thank you for putting in the detail and effort of making us all better by watching your content! Love the videos brother! Thanks for sharing!
I've been kicking the idea around of getting one of these myself thanks for all the info! Great review. I still need to catch up and pass the kayak stuff I have on to you.
I live on a small river and wanted a small boat but then I saw a pond prowler and this video! I just wanted to say thanks to you for this amazing video
Thank you so much! It’s nice to hear when someone finds value in the videos. That’s what I’m hoping for. From personal, experience… I love this little boat. If you plan to do river fishing with it, please just be safe and avoid hitting any big rocks with it. Otherwise, I think you will love it. Perfect little setup for one man. The 10-footer would be good for two people. Please stop back by and let me know if you end up getting one. Always love to hear and see other anglers experiences with this boat. Thanks again!
The only thing I do dislike about the pond prowler is the seat. I use a premium folding chair from the shore that would probably sit inside the boat. We can’t use gas motors on our local lake but it would be a nice emergency backup even there. I love small one person boats. Great video!
I am planning to swap the factory seat out with a nice thick bass boat seat eventually. Just haven’t been in a hurry about it because this one is pretty darn decent. Especially after coming from a hard plastic kayak. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment!
Love it. Appreciate it too. I am currently working on a similar plan only it was just today that I mounted a hitch to my Jeep. Next weekemd the lights get installed. Next month the trailer. My plan is to get a prowler and spend the winter rigging it how I want.
@@phillipsfamilychaos Thank you so much! Good luck with your new setup. Hope it turns out well. Customizing these little boats is a big part of the fun.
Very nice boat. I have a 8' Walker Bay 2hp. Honda Minn Kota 28lb. Maximiser and Barkley Sound Oars set up for trolling a fly. Oh ya The Droug for slowing the boat downwind down the lake. Wow so much control without any effort. Makes for a wonderful drift. I made mine with a dollar store heavy duty bag some gangen and a karibeaner with some bubble wrap glued to the top of the bag. I don't think it matters much but it works. Anyways Ninn Kota makes one it it is a little slower than mine. Then I rip back up wind with motor and oars then repeat. I motor troll sometimes and that's how I got the big one's. But when it's really windy a Droug makes it easy to fish when everyone else is blown ashore. Great Channel well done 👍
Thank you so much! That sound fun! I love DIY and that drag sail you described sound super clever. Would one of those work in shallow water? Thinking it would be a great way to slow my kayak down on the river. Those Honda engines are the ticket, I think.
@@pistolcreek Not sure about a Kayak and a draug but with the bubble wrap shallow water no problem. I could see problems with a kayak in a river. When things go bad they go bad but on the water things really go bad.
My fishing buddy and I have been looking at the pond prowler 10 for a while now but we are trying to find the right trailer for it. I was wondering why you picked the one you have. I really like some of the things you put on it.
Mine is just an old 5x8 lawn mower trailer with a mesh bottom. I added a couple of carpeted 2x6 boards to the bottom so the boat slides on and off very easily.
I'm actually looking at the pond prowler 10. My brother in law has a sun dolphin 10. That one's ok, I just don't like the little bench seats in it. After like 30 mins, my butt and back start hurting lol
The swivel seat is a game changer! The Pelican Bass Raider is also great. If you’re interested, there is another video on my channel that shows my buddy’s Pelican 10 and his setup. 😀 Thank you so much for watching.
I got the 8 foot at cabelas, complete with the Minnkota 36 lb thrust and Bass Pro Shops Starting Series 12V Marine Battery - 1000. $930 out the gate. I have a chevy avalanche and was able to fit the ENTIRE boat plus motor battery INSIDE my truck with the tailgate up. if it was parked on the road, you woulnt even have know there was a 8 foot boat in the vehicle lol
Awesome! You are going to love it. I would share that one absolute must item to take out with you is an anchor. A 5-10 one will do fine. The one and only issue I have ever had with my pond prowler was when I forgot my anchor at home and the wind moved me out of position all day.
@@pistolcreek yeah im super exicted to hit the waters in my new prawler, i haven't caught a fish all summer! its been so hot and the water levels are lower then usual, so all the fish went deeper. shore fishing is a bust!
Well good luck to you, my friend! I’m excited for you, as well. Definitely opens up some new opportunities and fishing spots. Heck..on a slow day, you can alway anchor down near a shade tree and catch little bluegill with a trout magnet or some worms. If you think of it, stop back by and let me know how your first trip goes. Always appreciate hearing other people’s experiences with these pond prowlers. Hope you catch a bunch!
Nice boat Chris. Watching the video brought up two questions. You said the boat is very stable and affords a good platform to stand and fish. My question is, do you think it is stable enough for a person that is 63 and can be a little wobbly on his pegs from time to time or would you suggest putting my butt in the seat and stay there until I'm ready to get out of the boat? My other question is this, is the outboard capable of being hooked up to, say a 2 1/2 gallon external fuel tank or can it only be operated on the 1 liter internal tank? Thanks for the info.
Thank you! The boat is very stable, indeed. As long as you are on relatively calm water, standing should be easy. Just please be sure to wear your life vest if you are concerned about balance. As for the outboard, there may be a way to connect it to an external, but I’m not sure of that. It will run for a long time in the internal tank. At half throttle, it will go non-stop for well over an hour. I fish from mine for several hours at a time and have never used more than half the tank since I mostly troll once I get into coves.
I would suggest covering it up in the rain. While a little rain won’t hurt it, you wouldn’t want it to fill up or have water standing in it for long periods of time. If you made sure to seal any screw holes up, that would be ideal. You just don’t want water getting inside the hull. It is filled with a styrofoam type material that will hold water if it gets wet inside the hull.
Man that’s a great little rig, I actually considered buying one myself before I bought my Kayak. Although I still have yet to get my kayak on the water for the first time and often wondered if I should have went this route considering I’m a big dude lol.. my first kayak was a little small and didn’t work out to well🤣 Great job setting up all the mods, hope you have a great New Year brother!
Love your setup! When you purchased it, did they generate a document for it so it could be titled? Or did it come with a title? I believe the non title document is the origin of manufacture- Again, love what you did to it, man that's awesome. Edit: I've never bought a watercraft other than a kayak... I know it needs a title to be registered, and it needs registered to have the outboard I'm putting on it......this is new to me.
Thank you! They should give you a piece of paper with the boat that has the hull id on it. You will need that plus a bill of sale or receipt to get it registered.
The boat you have is super cool! I was looking for one of those when I bought the Pond Prowler. The built in wheels is the best feature they could have went with. Wish my boat had those. The anchor pulley is an Ozark Trail one, I think. You can find it near the rope and buoys area of sporting goods.
They do fine in calmer stretches of water and deeper pools I would not try running one through super shallow water where it could get busted by a rock. Because of their shape, they are not great for speed or paddling against current. I have taken mine on the little river, but I made sure to hop out and wade through really shallow spots to protect the boat.
@@pistolcreek I would be hoping out as well but I’m sure it would hit several rocks hiding right below the surface. We usually take a canoe but was hoping for something a little bit bigger and more roomy. So you think these guys just aren’t tough enough for the shoals?
They are somewhat durable, but a hard crash into a sharp rock might crack the hull. I have a friend who floats the Holston in a 10ft version of this boat when the water is up. He doesn’t have any issues, but also steers clear of super shallow spots. When it gets sketchy, hopping out and walking it through will do fine. I have to do that in the Little River. If you have two people, should be real easy to keep it out of rough spots. Look at both the Bass Pro Pond Prowler and the Pelican Bass Raider. Both are excellent boats. If you are able, visit Bass Pro and look at one in person to see the material up close. You may be able to find a used one for a couple hundred bucks. You may be aware, but if you add a trolling or gas motor, you will need to register the boat.
I’ve not had 2 people in mine yet…but it should do fine as long as you stay under the weight capacity limit for your boat. Thanks so much for watching!
Nope. The only way that I know of for water to get in, is if there is a crack in the hull or you leave it outside to get filled with rain and condensation. I have had mine on the water dozens of times now without issue. I keep it stored in my garage, though.
How does this thing handle with just an ore and no motor. I want to take it out with just my paddle before I put a motor on it so I don't have to worry about registration right away but I'm worried about how realistic it is to use with just a paddle.
It’s manageable in calm conditions. You will want a long ore to make it easier to reach the water from the seat. They don’t cut through the water very well, due to the shape. Wouldn’t recommend trying to paddle it up river or on a very windy day.
It was a bit tricky, due to the material. I think I ended up letting mine sit in the sun for a bit to warm the plastic then applied the numbers and let them heat, also.
@jjp95136 Thanks so much! I did a bit of quick research and it looks like the polyethylene the hull is made from is super tough… but downside is it is nearly impossible to get glue or adhesives to stick to it. One trick you might try is lightly dusting the area with 3M spray glue then sticking the numbers down. Good luck!
Good eye! Yes… the Honda is a 4-stroke. That canister originally held pre-mixed 2-stroke fuel for my weed trimmer. It was the perfect size (1-liter) so I rinsed it out and re-purposed it as a spare fuel container for the boat. I use 87 octane 100% gasoline in the engine. Thank you for watching.
None that I can tell from this 2hp Honda. Now… that might be different for a larger motor, but I haven’t noticed it flexing at all with my current setup. The transom is pretty sturdy for a plastic boat.
@pistolcreek thank you so much! I'm currently working on getting the exact same set up as you. Trailer and all.. I want a 10 foot boat and trailer with maybe a 2.5 horse power outboard... any suggestions? Ans thank you so much... definitely going to subscribe to your channel
@ralphnash2517 Thank you! I appreciate that. You might try watching some other folks videos to see different motors. I personally went with the Honda for peace of mind. It’s not the most powerful or least expensive motor out there, but it’s quiet, light as a feather, and very dependable. Since I have owned it, it almost always starts on the first crank. It also runs for about an hour on 1 liter of fuel. I believe Mercury and Yamaha make 2.5 or 3hp motors as well. I first saw the Honda by watching the TH-camr Nora JP Fishing. He has one on his little boat. Also check out a channel called Humbug Fishing. That fella has a Pond Prowler, too. He’s done some cool upgrades to his. Good luck. I think you will enjoy the boat. It’s so fun! If you have any other questions on gear, feel free to email me. My contact info is on the About page on this channel. Take care!
@shanester8712 East Tennessee. It does great on any of the area lakes. Tennessee River is great too. I’d just avoid anything with swift current or shallow rocky areas that might bust the bottom.

@@jjp95136 I think so. Especially if you do a very light dusting, let it dry a bit then hit it again. Should make the surface very tacky.
Is your motor a 4-stroke? Looks like your extra fuel cannister is 2-stroke fuel. Is that correct?
What model # or model name is the one that allows two people to board? (two seats)?
The Pond Prowler 10 or the Pelican Bass Raider 10 both have 2 seats.
Do u have to get this registered for lakes from Texas
If you add a motor, yes, you would need to register it.
How is the transom flex with the outboard motor?
Take care!
@@pistolcreek thank you sir
Is it hard to get it licensed
Not here in my state. You just need the serial number from the back of the boat.
@@pistolcreek okay thanks
What part of TN? I'm in East TN just got a pond prowler this week. Just curious how I'd do on area lakes/rivers
@shanester8712 East Tennessee. It does great on any of the area lakes. Tennessee River is great too. I’d just avoid anything with swift current or shallow rocky areas that might bust the bottom.
