    That was an amazing overview of the Pond Prowler and all its accessories and modifications. I’m definitely going to bookmark this video. I love the sound of the drag squeal on the Daiwa UL Reel. Some of the Crappie have such exquisite coloration. Wish I was closer to Tennessee so I could catch some real Slabs. The Crappie at 15:10 was amazing 🎣💥⭐️🥇

It’s just annoying that we can’t get these at Bass Pro/Cabellas up here in Canada. I’ve got to run over the border to the Seattle area to grab one which is a pain. I rescued a 50 year old 14' sears Jon boat out of the woods and put a couple hundred into making it seaworthy again. Paired with a 40lb trolling motor, it will do dang near anything I need it to. I also have that little 2hp Honda motor and for what it is, it does pretty great. I was able to putt around a local creek for about 8 miles on one tank of gas, unfortunately most all of the public lakes around me are electric only.

    • @pistolcreek

      I don’t have an existing video on how I built it, but it’s super simple. All you need to do is cut a 1” x 6” or 2”x6” board into a 5 foot long piece. Next, get two fixed caster wheels (fixed and not the swiveling ones) from harbor freight and mount them on the bottom of the board. Make sure no screws stick out where they would hit the bottom of your boat. If they do, cut them off or file them down. Last thing is to add two eye bolts (one on each end of the board) that you will use to hook a ratchet strap to. Hope that helps. Feel free to email me using the contact page here on the channel if you need additional help.

    I have one of these boats and love it. I've been thinking about getting an outboard motor for it so I can travel farther on the lakes I fish. I've been using a trolling motor and I can only travel so far on it before the battery gets low. I was just wondering what length shaft is your outboard motor?

    • @pistolcreek

      I believe the Honda comes in a 16.5” and a 22.5” shaft version. I have the shorter shaft version. It’s just barely long enough for this boat, but works out perfect for shallow water. Another thing you might consider is looking into lithium batteries for your trolling motor. You can troll for several hours with a big enough Ah battery and they are small/lightweight. I love my outboard, but if the cost of an outboard wasn’t an option.. I’d look at buying either a 200Ah lithium or maybe 2 smaller batteries. Thank you for watching!

    • @pistolcreek

      Thank you so much! I am loving the battery, so far. I have used and charged it about 25-30 times now and it does great. My friend just ordered the same battery in the 100ah size for his 10-foot Bass Raider, which you can see in my latest video titled “Catching Panfish with a Pelican”.

  • @scottthomas6741

    I love your panfishing techniques! I have looked at several Pond Prowlers, but just can't bring myself to buy one. Every used one I have looked at weighs about 200+ pounds. The Pond Prowler is such a great concept, but poorly executed in the build. The two piece hull is not sealed at the seam and the trim strip on the seam isn't sealed and just collects water in the seam. I know a person who loved his until he got caught in the rain. The rain runs down side of boat, into the trim strip, and then into the hull. It took three of us to get his water logged Pond Prowler out of the water! Once the white Styrofoam absorbs water, it is almost impossible to get it out.

    • @pistolcreek

      That is very true about water in the hull ruining these boats. I store mine in the garage when not in use and try my best to keep it dry. One idea I saw someplace was running a bead of clear silicone around the seam of the hull. Definitely not as light as a small kayak, but the comfort and storage is super nice. I love mine and have fished it in all kinds of weather over the past 2 years. Knock on wood, no problems yet. For the price, they can be one of many great options out there for certain situations. Thank you so much for watching!

    Thanks, Chris! Just got myself a Bass Tracket Bantam 2x and ordered a Hangkai 4 stroke. Do you find you could use a rudder on your outboard when floating?
    I'm on Lay Lake in Alabama, and looks like we have similar current and conditions.

    • @pistolcreek

      Yessir. A rudder on the opposite end, or a trolling motor, makes a huge difference in tracking. Without it, it can want to spin on you pretty easily.

    • @VHGbham

      @@pistolcreek gotcha! Prolly gonna go with a scotty mount and the rudder you use on the bow, and put the 4hp on the back. Ty so much!
      I always use your affiliate links. I know a few pennies isn't much, but I'm eventually gonna get pretty much all the stuff you use.

    • @pistolcreek

      @VHGbham Another note, you may be aware, but some folks take a mounting bracket made for a trolling motor and add a piece of pvc pipe to make an adjustable rudder. I have seen some guys here on TH-cam do that. I think one channel that shows it may be Humbug Outdoors. He has a Pond Prowler 8.

    • @VHGbham

      @@pistolcreek thank you so much! Yessir, I did see Humbug's mod, and I've got an old Motor Guide mount already. That's a perfect idea! But I can already tell I'm gonna need more handles for carrying and do the wheel mod. The weight is increasing fast! And I'm unloading from a cargo van. We have a boat launch at the end of my driveway, but I can't keep the boat at the pier more than a day or two, and I prolly won't anyway when the motor comes Friday.

  • @_Subaru_2024

    Nice setup! You may want to make your battery cutout a little bit bigger and put the battery in a battery box. If something like a screw driver or the metal handle on your lantern accidently comes in contact with both battery terminals then you will have sparks flying and metal melting on your plastic boat.

    • @pistolcreek

      That’s a great point! I’ll see if I can work a box or cover in somehow. Appreciate you pointing that out. I’m just clumsy enough to zap myself with a net pole or something.😂
