    After Ken's unveil of the RS with the Ford Performance team, I knew I had to get one. I've had my RS since 2017 and enjoyed 5 years of driving it stock. After the 5 years, I wanted to improve the power, sound, and comfort. Mods: green filter, sound suppression chamber, removed the underhood sound insulation, short throw shifter, cobb catback (valved), ETS intercooler, DSC suspension controller, and tuned via Cobb AP (shoutout to JST Performance). The catback was a tad too loud with the valve 100% open so we changed it to 50% max. Now the car is PERFECT! Congratulations on the purchase!, excited to see how your build goes.

    The RS is a world of difference from the ST when starting from a dig, makes the ST seem slow. However from a roll I don’t think there’s a drastic difference. I’ve owned both cars and loved them both, but there’s just something special about driving a RS that makes me wanna keep it forever.

    I’m so stoked you have a RS now. I’m going on almost two years with mine. It’s so much fun to drive that my 10 minute drive to and from work turns into a 1 hour canyon detour everyday. It’s also really stable on the dirt, some rally spec coil overs would complement the chassis.

    The awd instant torque and traction are what make me want an awd over my focus right now. It just feels faster. I dont care too much about top speed or high HP, since I usually just do pulls on the freeway or mountains in WA.
    Also, no wheel hop, no worries about putting power down, etc. I think awd is the only reason for me.

    from a tuned st owner, to now a tuned rs… the rs is by far so much better in every aspect. I had the St3 but the interior on the Rs seems better even tho I have the base model Rs without the sunroof. Also the power difference is crazy especially after a tune on the rs compared to a tuned st… also I recommend an e30 tune if your looking to gain power off the bat, the car transforms. trust me

    I just upgraded from an ST3 to a 2018 NB RS this week! Small world! I agree on almost everything here.
    One thing about going from ST3 seats to RS2/FE is I'm not sliding around in the seat anymore. That, after these short few days, feels like top "didn't see that coming" upgrade.
    There isn't a single pic or video on the internet that does the NB justice, as well as the black on the FE with the dark blue flakes.
    It does feel a lot faster to me. I had to redline the FBO ST w/ custom tune to get what I feel at like 60% throttle on this. The power oversteer also makes it feel MUCH faster.
    ALSO! Thank you for making those old ST videos way back. I just got done using one for the second time today installing what I feel are mandatory drivability upgrades. (Short shifter, bushings, pedal spacer, clutch spring) Even with all the ST content on TH-cam, your videos really stood out for me both before I bought mine and also during my ownership.

    I had an ST 2 years ago and finally I got an RS. I love it! I'm ready to get it tuned though. It definitely feels a little tame from the factory. Knowing the car is rare and the more aggressive styling make this car feel a lot nicer. I get comments on the Brembo's all the time. Mine is Stealth Gray, I sometimes wish I had gotten Nitrous Blue. Can't wait to see what you do with this car Cam!

      Definitely is a little tame when stock. My tuned ST (catback only) sat neck and neck with a friend's RS

    My Frozen White RS did 383 hp with 604nm/445,5ft-lbs on the dyno and stock it was 342hp with 487nm/359,2ft-lbs

    Haven't seen it mentioned, but @1:22 the exhaust valve closes/opens the flap on one side under set conditions. Pretty normal behaviour. It should do a self-test where you'll hear the valve open/close, if you open the driver's door after startup (with key on you). Otherwise it'll leave the valve closed on cold start afaik for noise (it may be open for cold start then close when at temp, can't recall) and during driving, if at constant speed it'll also close, and only open when needed.
    The RS is definitely one of those motors you want to drive/own at least once, the fact you've done that is awesome.

    I got a 17 ST with the rs3 package about 4 months ago now. Pretty stock besides exhaust and bov and I love it. Super fun for a daily.

    I have a ST1 race red sunroof its weird but i installed the sync 3 in it for 1,500 waste of money but love the car so fun

    Love my RS!! I will say that after I got it tuned for 93 and e40, it really woke the car up a ton! Plus my tuner was able to program out the auto engine on/off and open valves on cold start (so much louder). That's why you only saw that condensation coming from 1 exhaust tip.

    The ST is more reliable in my experience. Mine currently has 113k miles. Original motor, turbo, and tranny. I bought it 3 years ago with 61k miles, and I’ve been FBO, and tuned for roughly 35k miles.
    I’d love to get an RS, but I was underwhelmed driving a stock one lol. Definitely a lot more potential power wise from an RS. But I love my ST
    I originally found your channel like 2 weeks after I bought mine.

    Quick tip from a fellow RS owner: after you press the mode button to change into sport or track mode, you can press OK to select the mode instead of waiting. Same when you turn off ESC or get any notifications.

    The ST 2.0 is a closed deck short block, tolerances are much higher than our open block design on the 2.3. That is to my best understanding, apologies for any ignorance.

    I had a 2016 Volkswagen gti that was stage 2 and I sold it for my current 2017 RS2 that’s also now stage 2 I just enjoy the all wheel drive in the winter in Minnesota for sure I’m excited to see what you got planned cam

    Rocking a 2018 FiST, fun car but I'd rather take a 2018 RS limited once they drop well below $40k! Nitrous Blue or Race Red, that's a tough choice.

    Killin it man love my st but soon want to make the upgrade. I too was not a fan of the idea of the nitrous blue, but then I had a guy bring one for me to do some work to and I fell in love with the color

    2018 ST3 Owner here... I live around Montréal, Canada, with winters and all that jazz. I really like my ST ( I REALLY DO ), it has that extended warranty and a maintenance plan until 2025 or so. That means I don't get to pay anything until that time. The car has a cool extra as well like turning headlights which I really like.
    BUT...
    I'm really fighting against myself not to upgrade it to an RS. The only thing holding me back are the interest rate (or tax rates if you will). Right now, we have 8% interest rates on all sells for cars over here, so that trade would mean that I get to pay around 300$ extra per month just because of that difference with my actual rate for my purchase contract.
    I don't have any mods on my ST and I'm really asking myself if I should MOD it or just wait and upgrade to the RS instead when rates lowers again.

    RS was my very first performance vehicle. Loved everything about it. I had a 2017 (brand new at the time) and sadly sold it to carmax last year in february when the auto market was up, but every now and then, I wish I kept the RS.... I loved modifying it.

    With regard to the engines, community tend to say that the ST 2.0 block is better than the RS, but the cylinder head in RS beats the ST, hence the block mod option that some RS owners do.

    Been watching since u did an ST build. I've owned an ST since new and have since upgraded to the RS. Difference in power levels when moving isn't super big however up north, the AWD makes a big difference in the snow. Can't wait to see the upcoming build series and maintenance.

    My black RS up close you can see blue flake in it. It’s very hard to capture on camera but it’s not “just another black car” if you have the chance to see one in person look at the paint close up and preferably in the sun

    I hope you have plans to backup the claim that the 2.0 in the ST is "definitely" better than the 2.3 in the RS, or do some research and reconsider that statement.
    The 2.3 in the RS is definitely nearer to the Mustang 2.3 (even the Bronco 2.3) than the Ranger 2.3.
    IMO, the 2.0 is NOT, "definitely a huge perk having from a overall aspect" if you truly mean "overall". Maybe if you are in a budget, have some turbos lying around, and want to tinker, or some other narrow window of measure, but certainly NOT overall.
    The 2.3 has a lot of advantages over the 2.0, better cooling, stronger cylinder wall liner material, stronger internals (forged crank), etc. The 2.0 has more cylinder wall support material and the advantages (and disadvantages) inherent of a more closed deck. The 2.3 head flows more and can more easily support more power, but the 2.0 can more cheaply accommodate a wider variety of turbos. There are loads of differences and plenty of pluses and minuses for both, but making an argument that the 2.0 is "overall" better or an advantage is to either ignore or not not understand those pluses and minuses or to have a narrow view of the broad term "overall".
    Plenty of folks will talk about the 2.0 being stronger, without specifying what they mean. It's hard to make that argument outside anything other than in terms of the amount of cylinder wall support material. Not that that's nothing, it's a big something, but not enough to make the entire engine stronger, not even just the bottom end.
    Most big power engine builds involve a (stock or modified stock) 2.3 crank anyhow, which itself is stronger than the 2.0's, and more expensive than a 2.0 block. That means if you had a good 2.0 or 2.3 bottom end (let alone a whole engine) to build you'd be better off starting with the 2.3 than the 2.0 anyhow...
    I'm enjoying the videos and your personal style. I hope to see plenty more content during your journeys.

      Most builds use a 2.0 Block and a 2.3 Head... The 2.0 is a better block. The 2.0 Crankshaft is Forged, the weak points are the Rods & Pistons. In all honesty a ported 2.0 Head will flow equally or better than a 2.3 Head will. In the end the 2.3 isn't exactly an easy or a cheap engine to obtain either...

      Head." I'll agree that many builds use this configuration, maaaaybe even, now, many engine builders and most higher power engines, but not "most builds". It seems to me as if most "builds" don't even open up the engine. Maybe you just shortened "high power engine builds" or something similar to "builds", if so I think everyone would be better of if the distinction was made. If what you meant it was that, and even if we accepted it, does that (in your mind) equal "the 2.0 is better than the 2.3 in the whole"? If so, why exactly?
      'The 2.0 is a better block." No, it isn't better in every way, therefore it isn't as simple as that. If you want to say it has "more cylinder wall support material", or something like that'd be fair and I wouldn't have a problem with it, but simply saying it's better (without qualifiers) disregards all the ways and situations in which the 2.3 is better.
      "The 2.0 Crankshaft is Forged" NO, again you're INCORRECT, it isn't forged. If you'd ever held one and knew what you're looking at you'd know this, or you could just do a minimum amount of research. I suppose, even though the correct information has been out there for nearly a decade, you might be forgiven for holding this belief as Ford had put out the wrong information before folks got their hands on (and eyes in) the ST's 2.0.
      "The weak points are the Rods & Pistons." No argument here that those could be weak points of the 2.0, but they're not the only ones.
      "In all honesty a ported 2.0 Head will flow equally or better than a 2.3 Head will." "Honesty", has nothing to do with it. Facts are facts. This is a complicated one, and, well, maybe true with a big ass "but". BUUUTTTTT, it would require more than just port work for the entire head to flow more, meaning additional custom-made (and/or modified) supporting modifications. AFAIK, nobody has tried it and no data is available to support your claim, likely because the time, money, and effort involved would make the increased cost of starting with an initially higher flowing 2.3 head a relatively small expense overall. Basically this is a ridiculous thing to bother claiming because even if it were true, there's practically no situation where it would make sense to bother with it.
      "In the end the 2.3 isn't exactly an easy or a cheap engine to obtain either." I suppose it's all relative. I imagine this may have been said in response to my saying "... you'd be better off starting with a 2.3 anyhow". If so, and if your point was accepted, it doesn't negate the point I made.
      So, again, what points or overall point are you trying to make? It isn't clear, to me. I'd enjoy a debate, assuming you can be bothered to be clear and get the facts right. If nothing else maybe we can clear up some additional misconceptions you hold, and stamp out the parroting of misinformation.

      @@ThomMurphy sorry for the misinformation on the Crankshaft, it is a Cast Unit. It was relayed to me that it was forged from old readings and a Ford Tech. I never really searched to find out because I didn't plan on replacing mine anyway.
      I guess I could have been a little more clear. My comment is simply stating that the 2.0 Block is better than the 2.3 Block, just that simple. Not the rotating assembly, just the actual Block itself. A none sleeved 2.3 will not handle the power a 2.0 will, that's a common knowledge FACT. That's the very reason why when I was a bit younger I opted for an H22A or H23 instead of an H22A4, simply because it was closed deck and I didn't have to sleeve it. Same reason why we use Gen. 1 Hayabusa Jugs & Cases vs the Gen. 2 Hayabusa's... The Cases of the Gen. 1 are stronger. Same deal with '03/'04 Gixxer 1000 Cases over the newer models. Same deal with the older Ford 302 Blocks, once you get to about the 400HP to 500HP arena the Blocks tend to split. There's an abundance of information that support what I'm saying.
      Now the engine as a whole is different... Yep 2.3 has a better Head, better Rotating Assembly, better Turbo, etc. in STOCK form.
      The 2.0 Block has been documented to handle upwards of 700+ before failing www.enginelabs.com

      @bacchus thompson NP, nobody (myself included) is 100% correct 100% of the time. I don't judge people for being wrong alone, occasionally, and people shouldn't be hard on themselves if they are. On the other hand, if folks can't handle being wrong in a constructive manner that's a different story. Admitting it is the first step, explaining why you had the belief to begin with can help identify ways to avoid making the same mistakes again. You've handled it well so far, and I applaud that.
      Without getting into the weeds of every open deck, closed deck, and semi-open/closed deck block ever made, I'll try to stick to some generalities which may apply to the 2.0 and 2.3 we've been discussing. I'll also try to stick the main issues, or highlights, which I think can make my point but will not bother to bring up every single detail or scenario.
      Generally, and in the case of these two, an open deck will provide some advantages in terms of cooling. Cooling, as you likely know, has the advantages of allowing for better longevity, efficiency (i.e. more power all other things being equal), and less wear.
      Of course, there are disadvantages compared to a closed deck (or semi-open/closed deck) as well. Namely the amount of cylinder wall support material. Again, as you likely know, weak cylinder wall support can lead to the cracking of cylinder walls or cylinder distortion, especially when pushing an engine to produce more power.
      Strictly sticking to differences between these two blocks alone it is worth highlighting the fact that the 2.3 uses high-tensile cast iron cylinder wall liners, which the 2.0 does not have. Now, these are essentially nothing compared to full-blown aftermarket sleeves (let alone wet sleeves), but they're not 100% nothing and they're definitely something compared to the 2.0.
      All this to say there are some advantages to the 2.3 block alone when compared to the 2.0, and there are some circumstances and situations in which the 2.3 block would be preferable. Likewise, there are some situations where the 2.0 would be preferable. I won't bother listing out examples unless you request it, as I imagine you to be capable of understanding this without my making the effort.
      One thing I'd like to point out is that common knowledge does not equal fact. There are so many things that are common knowledge that are thought to be fact that simply aren't, and what is a fact can change with new data.
      Speaking of data, I didn't find the documentation you may have been trying to reference with that link. I did find www.enginelabs.com/news/big-horsepower-stroker-ecoboost-build-with-deadhook-motorsports/ , but that didn't hit the 700+ HP (and is pretty old with a defunct company) so I'm guessing it wasn't the intended target. That said, I'm aware of 700+ HP builds using both blocks, some with liners (wet or dry), some with braces, and some without any additional support, so I have no doubts that the 2.0 block can support 700+ HP builds.
      Have you ever seen a 2.3 block failure that was a pure block failure? (Meaning the block failed because the block failed, not because something else other than the block's weakness led to the block failure.) I haven't. I've never seen any data or information that conclusively proved a 2.3 block failure or even propensity for block fault that wasn't attributable to a failure of some other sort. In other words, I've never seen anything which has proven a 2.0 block would have survived when a 2.3 has failed. If you have, please share it. Ideally, we would have conclusive proof of this, at a minimum we would have an established pattern pointing to this as, at least, a likelihood.
      If you don’t have this data then your argument that the 2.0 block is better isn't supported by any facts, or any data. Even if you had some data that showed this as a possibility, it likely wouldn't eliminate the possibility that the 2.3 blocks may be better in certain different circumstances. Circumstances where more cooling would be preferable, as an example.
      An unqualified "better", should be just that. It should not have hidden qualifiers or assume anything. It should apply to every scenario, situation, case, etc. To say, unqualified, that the 2.0 block is "better" it would need to be better for everything and at everything. It is not. It's not lighter, it does not provide as much cooling, it does not have as strong of cylinder wall liners, and AFAIK it hasn't been proven to handle circumstances that the 2.3 blocks can not. Even if any of those things were different, if only one of the others remained the same then an unqualified "better" would not be properly applied.
      I appreciate that you seem to recognize this standard when applied to the engine as a whole, I hope that you may be able to do the same when applied to just the block.
      Now, with all of that said, I want to make it clear that I'm not saying the 2.3 blocks is "better", it's not. The 2.0 may be better for any number of circumstances, or the differences may be irrelevant to certain circumstances. I'm not trying to argue for 1 being (an unqualified) better than the other. I'm trying to encourage critical thinking surrounding the topic and the exchange of ideas supported by mutually observed (and repeatable) reality.

    I’ve thought about trading in my ST but I’d rather spend the extra money on doing the mods I want.
    Both cars have the same brake and cooling issues on the track, and the AWD system only makes it worse.
    With my LSD I have no problem getting the power down out of corners so I’m excited to finish building it

    I purchased my 2018 RS brand new and there is a special feeling. Yes it’s a “focus” but say it’s just a 3 series to a m3 owner. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Funny story I got my st around the same time as you did and I loved it. I got an RS a few weeks before you did as well😂. But my point is I definitely have the same opinion for sure. But overall I’d say definitely worth the upgrade if you’re willing to pay the price

    I have a 2018 ST1 bought it brand new off the lot with no miles on it. now I'm sitting around 30,700. Learned how to do most of the work on my own from watching your videos and other ST owners, like your buddy Ben. Done a decent amount of mods to the car, but still have plenty more I want to do. Currently I'm upgrading the look of the car to be more like an ST2/3 with the interior and wheels.
    The coolest aesthetic I've done is replace the headlights and Mirror lights with sequential for when I use the turn signals and they look amazing. Highly recommend you just do it for the mirrors on the RS because I like the factory headlights more than the Standard focus lights on ST1's. Also the Rally innovation splitters all around the car add a subtle meaner look to it too.

    I had a 380 whp ST3 and I loved the thing to death, bullet proof car, only thing I wish I had was the all wheel drive cause I’d spin into 3rd gear and it got old after awhile, but amazing amazing cars

    I purchased my rs with 10k miles 3 yrs ago and at 72k miles the head gasket went bad hydro locking the motor stayed in the shop for 6 months bc of waiting for parts. Only part I hate is not having a spare tire and oil changes costing a 100 dollars. Another thing is randomly would throw a error saying drive modes unavailable. Hopefully works out better for you. Pray u got a warranty as well.

    Almost traded my triple yellow ‘17 ST2 for a nitrous blue RS from a local dealership. Turns out the RS had a drifting incident which broke both passenger side rims so they replaced them with some awful cheapies with the wrong offset. Kept the ST and decided to tune it. Making 287hp and 345ftlb with the factory exhaust. It’s amusing when people roll up on me thinking it’s stock.

    Had an ST for 6 years. Test drove an RS when they came out. Ride was real harsh and it didn't feel that much faster just driving around town at reasonable speed. If you have good roads and space to use it- the RS is worth it.

      Ride is harsh on 16 and 17 year models because of “faulty, overly stiff suspension”. The 18 suspension was actually updated to be more compliant which was actually better for the handling

      @@chriskimmel453 I got mine for around $700... If you're solely set on getting an exhaust; then the Greddy is a damn good quality exhaust. If you're on a budget, you can do a Vibrant Resonator in place of the Stock Resonator and then have the fibers removed from the Stock Muffler. OEM look but, better performance & sound. Paired with a Catted or Catless Downpipe (I went with the Catless Downpipe from Depo Racing) and you'll be pretty happy with the sound.

That would be more than enough for the stock Turbo. If you plan on going Big Turbo, then you'll need a good 3" Exhaust along with a DP

    I live in phx if you want to drive a big turbo ST. It makes 460hp only but I’ve been thinking about trading it in for an RS but not worth it at this point. Only benefit is the AWD

    The smoke rolling out one side happens to my GTI also. once it warms up off a cold start and gets up to temp it will breathe out both sides i was worried when i saw it on mine also lol

    I love my 2018 Focus ST, But been having issue in last 1yr. I have put a lot of upgrades. basically its stage 3 and sum. the last upgrade I did was changing out throttle body with the larger mustang ECO Boost one. So about 3 months or so after that I notice If I get on it a little bit It starts missing really bad. (seems to be cylinder 1-2) So I have replaced the plugs and put in MSD coils packs in it. (same problem) then I replace O2 and intake manifold censer (Nothing still) Then I am like OK put the stock throttle body back on. (still not working right.) I not sure what to do. I took some logs but not good enough of a mechanic to be able to read them. got me so stressed. Then couple months ago. I engine throws a rod. So I am like maybe it was just something wrong with the engine. So after fighting with ford over the warranty for 3+ months. they fix it. so Ford replaced engine and head. Get it back all happy thinking car with be fixed. NOPE. Does the same thing. So frustrated with this car. I may just get rid of it.

    Stage 2 when i had my rs made that shit pull so good, and hooks with those nice tires, my st i just got is stage one thing pulls damn good but traction in 1st and 2 nd are non existent😂 iam getting a tune with edge here soon just got put defouler on oil change and coolant, i can’t wait to fill the change

    Seeing what Ford did with an already great platform and putting a more powerful engine in it and then adding awd makes me realize how much Mazda missed the mark and how great a true Awd Speed 3 would've been with a proper 6 spd manual in it.

    Heres why I have an ST over the RS. I paid $16k for my 60k miles ST2. All the RS around me are $35k or more. The thing that I kept coming back to was I cant justify double the price for just AWD. It's still a focus everywhere else in the car. $40k for an economy car doesnt seem like a smart idea to me. There are better cars for that money. You have to love it to make it worth it. Yes the RS has more HP out of the box. But who's trying to keep their cars stock?

    You talked about how you can feel the 200lb difference from the st to the rs. Now imagine the 500-600lb difference from the fiesta st to the focus st. That is why I think fiesta st>any focus model.

    Both good cars…. ST or RS… it just depends on what your budget is….. For a low mileage, one-owner ST, you’re looking at around $25k. The RS will go around $40k. It just depends on what you want. I’ve owned an ST & now an RS.

    I went from the st to rs to type r... I loved the st.. hated the rs.. I hate the pops it has in sport mode so needs tuned out asap.. then the blue I loved at first turn after a month I saw it more as a chick color as much as it sparkles... I didn't care for the seats bc they r way to small... now I love my type r.. Def a perfect daily... so comfy shifting butter smooth compared to hard feeling with st ND rs.. rs sucked on gas milage less than 20mpg stock was horrible ND insurance was ridiculous.. my type r I pay 125 a month full coverage.. rs was 320 lol.. ND was just thst high bc of the car!

    I don't like when someone with an ST swaps to a RS front bumper, it just doesn't fit and feels like someone wearing a costume. I personally like it more anyways, but I do think the RS rear valence and wing on an ST

    The 2L engine is definitely superior in terms of hp ceiling but the 2.3L gets a worse rep than it deserves. The stock engine is safely capable up to about 420whp with 450 being generally fine if you like to live dangerously.
    Anything over 500 and you run into the larger problem of the AWD having a hard limit on how much torque can be sent to the rear. This can ofc be changed with software magic but it's anyones guess how much and for how long the RDU can take increased loads. Sourcing a new one doesn't exactly look promising either so I'm not gonna take my chances.
    For the truly mad you're better off getting the 2L semi-closed deck from the Fusion, it bolts right to our head (ST 2L does not) and when sleeved is rated for like 800whp. But again, it's basically gonna be a fwd car at the point and hardly driveable.

      They are but if you go to second and then do first with the clutch in it makes it easier. Something with the alignment of the synchros

      Wild, I thought I was the only one! Yeah like Nickjonap said, go 2>1 and reverse is perfect. I feel like the reverse lockout mechanism in the RS is tighter, though. But that's nice because it makes 1>2 feel smoother.

    15 grand more for a stock rs? Or go st and put 15 grand in the motor? I love the rs front bumper and wing and installed them both on my st. Deleted any badge trace ofc. But have walked rs's in the st every time they were willing to try. Not taking anything away from the rs they are amazing and I love them. But so much has went into the st at this point there's just no reason.
