Other than going in a straight line it was ruined. Will be interesting to know what your feelings on it where? Obviously US roads are different...
@rhyswilliams4893 sounds like your buddy didn't know how to adjust everything properly. Factory is setup for good all around usually. This sort of setup should be better for the track and worse on road, this the nature of the beast.
Hey Fred 8:48 the oil leak shown there is 90% likely to be the Axle seal in the PTU (known issue from factory). When I rebuilt my block I replaced the seals with the updated version and I've been leak free for 15.000 miles already. The one you need for the PTU is CN1Z-7H424-B
as a prior Focus RS owner, that oil leak likely is not the banjo fitting for the turbo. the real issue is probably a front cover leak from an improper headgasket replacement job done by the dealer. definitely try the crush washers first but if it leaks again its a front cover leak.
Would you recommend a 2016 RS with a replaced head gasket and rebuilt title, 33K miles, for $30K?? What's the downside of a head gasket replacement on these things??
To be specific: 2016 Ford Focus RS - REBUILT TITLE - 33k Miles - 2.3L Turbocharged 4 Cylinder - 6 Speed Manual Transmission - Original Window Sticker & Sales Brochure - Head Gasket Replaced - Pedders Coilovers on all 4 - Steeda Rear Sway Bar - ETS Intercooler - Aftermarket Exhaust System - Cobb Tuner - Black Exterior - Black Interior
As an RS owner im actually so happy the car wasn't just for a post on Twitter and got content for it. I bought mine with about 72k miles on it too, sitting at 93k now and still absolutely love it.
How has it been reliability wise? Do you know what the PO's did before you got it? Modded or mostly stock? Theyre hard to find for the RS. I dont like the Blue really either which makes it even harder. I love the New Toyota GR Corolla AWD 6MT that came out in 2023 and then updated again for 2024. The only thing is that its working with 310hp, but its a 1.5L Turbo 3-Cylinder motor. So proably harder to mod then like a New Civic Type R or something...
oh wow that white over blue is perfect. and the new pipes are just right! im not a fan of a bang tune because of what it does to other parts, but the tone of the exhaust is excellent
Yes! Finally a TH-camr doing a series on this platform. I have had an RS since 2016 and it’s an amazing machine. I love it. I track/race mine all of the time and zero issues, it’s such a weapon.

@@Bob_Smith19yeah most rs owners do as they get contacted by ford. And it was the wrong gasket from another model they have put on so you would definitely already have problems with it if it wasn't changed.
You can check if it has been replaced pretty easily, standing in front of the engine, take your phone and place it under the front right side of the head looking up - you should see the underside of the headgasket, if you see a brass rivet you are good.
@@Bob_Smith19 You'd be an absolute moron not to. Not only does it not cost anything, but it saves you from having to pay for catastrophic failure down the line.
The RS doesn't actually make more noise in sport mode. That mode only modifies the throttle mapping. You can adjust the bumper to hood gap easily with just loosening the screws on top of the bumper. A common leak on all Ford's is the axle to differential seal. Also Ford refers to the differentials as PTU and RDU for some reason. If you want to add just that little more to it, you can add an LSD to it. The 2018 was the only year that it came on it new. Qualf makes it. The Motocraft FL400S oil filter is commonly used on the RS because it is longer than the OE size, so people can fit more oil and have more filter media surface area. It doesn't mean the car was taken care of better. Ford Performance also makes a nice carbon fiber shift knob. The 2018 also came with carbon fiber interior trim. To turn off traction control hold it in. Also, the rear seat bottoms pull up so that you can fold the backs down flat. I'm a bit of an RS expert. I went to the RS Adrenaline Academy and asked the Ford Engineer a lot of questions.
They are an awesome car for daily driving, I did 120k miles in mine until sadly the engine decided to start missing and steaming, so be prepared for a rebuild at some point
Man, your RS is legit one of two ways I'd want it aesthetically Performance Blue/White for the European roots/Ford fanboy, or grey and black fully matted out. I've been daily'ing my 2014 ST since the day I picked it up and the only car I'd ever switching to while owning mine is a crispy RS like yours. Really great work, with those coil overs it's the perfect car (in my neck of the woods, couple states over in Louisiana).
I had a 1978 bmw 320 with a custom exhaust with a borla muffler. You brought back great memories. Your car sounds very similar to my old BMW. Oh, I also replaced the mechanical fuel injection with mikuni side draft carbs for extra power and sound performance. Thanks for bringing back fond memories
Wey!!! I noticed this in your other videos lurking in the back and was hoping it was yours and we would get content . As an owner of one of these, I have to say I absolutely love it!! I have mine in Stealth grey it’s such a great car for the money and it’s actually practical for daily use. Everytime I drive it and look at it it just puts a smile on my face. only issue I have had in 4 years is one of the front lights went wonky and had to be replaced. Mine is stock so have found this quite interesting I’ve always thought about tuning but worried it would lead to more issues
I sold my nitrous blue Focus RS 3 years ago to free up some cash while my wife went back to school and the prices were inflated. I loved that car! I own an R35 GT-R now and I'm strongly contemplating getting another one as a daily now that the prices are getting a little better, maybe even a salvage one on copart as I could see myself keeping it forever this time. Enjoy it!!
Helpful hint from a former 2017 focus RS3 owner, you’re gonna want to regularly check the clips that hold the arrow under panels on because they are known to come off and they come off. They’re very expensive to replace. Also, if running an aftermarket exhaust, these things are known to eat catalytic converter’s. Mine went out with 28,000 miles on the car, which is why I traded in a bronco sport. It’s also a good idea to check all the clips on the body cladding they are known to break because the cars ride so rough and the clips are the step standard material.
As a current RS owner I would agree the stock suspension is very bumpy and I get a lot of bump steer on mine. Call me crazy but I’m dying to build a custom lower and upper control arm set up for front and rear. I want to build a rally style setup using king coil overs with the right spring rate obviously so its not too soft, and with a adjustable reservoir I think it could be dialed in perfectly. Of course a lot of fab would be needed but once I took it in the dirt I could just imagine how sick a full rally suspension setup would be. Quafe transmission also just recently came out with QBE46Z sequential 5 speed 😏 I’m highly considering it
I had 17 Stealth Grey Focus RS when I lived in Alaska, I loved it. It was such a blast to load the homies up and rip around in the snow. I daily drove it the whole time I owned it and it was a great car. I also had a borla exhaust on mine and I think they are the best. Get a drift stick from ford, they make the car just that much more fun in drift mode too. I did the matching accents too its such a nice looking setup.
I can honestly say I've never been jealous of Tavarish, or wanted any of his cars. I can't say that anymore. I want this car. This is a cool goddamn car.
Bring that beast up to Gainesville cars & coffee. Next one is Nov 12. Would LOVE to see it. I have an '18 RS in red with minimal mods - exhaust and oil catch cans.
Love that you have a Focus Rs! I have a 2016 Focus RS with 141.3k miles on it! And funny thing is my exhaust is actually broke off past the Rear diff from when i worked at a Iron ore strip mine. Been running 0 Muffler for like 2 years haha XD. Hope you get alot of fun out of this car!
My KW tool kit looked like it was missing a tool also but as I had ELITE in Rainham fit my KW sport comfort coilovers I actually thought the fitter had forgot to put it back in the box after fitment 🤪 you learn something every day
The small motor for the exhaust is generally referred to as an "actuator", which moves in 2 directions. A motor that is meant to only power only 1 direction is referred to as a "solenoid" that would be for like a power trunk release or starter for example. If it is tube shaped like a shock to operate a rear spoiler we refer to those as "linear actuators" which also works 2 directions for up/down. The exhaust actuator is for an "open/close purpose. Just a little trivia from a fellow car geek.
Always thought the Focus was a UK/Europe only Ford, glad you get to enjoy them in the States as well 🤟🏻🤟🏻. Clarkson once called a predecessor of this Focus the Ford ASBO. ASBO in the UK was the term for anti social behaviour orders that were given out at the time.
Should have gone with dark grey wheels . Nardo grey goes really good with that color. Personally I’d just go take them straight to the powder coater and say git er doneskis.
You guys gonna do some Rallycross together?! Two rally legends in the same garage (homologation versions obv but still lol) That drive shaft on the RS is so tiny! Seems super thin even for AWD, but im no expert. The white wheels look amazing! White on blue is awesome, i like 5 spoke but the ones you have are classic also
I'm so glad you swapped out the 15 52s. Don't ask me why, but they are notorious for having leaking issues with the Focus and Fiesta ST/RSs. You'd have to pay me to take them. I had one friend who went through the warranty process and over 2 years he replaced 6 of them.
The sport mode make me almost choke on my bong rip also shout out to JACK!!!! MAN IS A NATIONAL TREASURE!!!! As long as his BMW color doesn't make him forget how to indicate and not ride ass.
Awesome car dude. You had the white stripe on the car and all I could see was the black on the wing. I was about to comment when I saw Wrex, "sorry dude not sure how to spell your name" scraping it off. Next Build has to be Wrex's dream build. You owe him.
That is right up my alley. I LOVE that car and the rims are perfection! I can't wait to see you driving it in a future video (I'm hoping?) Dang, great taste there!
That aftermarket intercooler may be real trouble in the hot humid south. The O.E. intercooler had a block-off plate to inhibit the formation of water in the intercooler system and finding its way into the engine. I think that's right, I am 69 so my memory is not always spot on. I like my 2017 RS so much that I am selling my 1983 928S.
I'd swap on an aftermarket exhaust that retains the factory valve. Friend of mine had one. I installed the most expensive Mountune kit on it (I think it was called a Stage 4? Maybe?). I think he was right around 400 whp. BTW, according to Mountune, the factory catted downpipe doesn't need to be replaced until you're over 500 whp. I wanted to buy their DP, but they told me not to bother until we were ready to do the shortblock and a bigger turbo.
That’s the stock intercooler, charge pipes, and down pipe. If they told you it had this, and that it was tuned, I’d be real skeptical that it was in fact tuned. That sounds about like the stock about of burble too. Subbed for more!

The new wheels are great! I'd be raising the car up by at least an inch and a half though, if not two inches. After all, it's a rally car not a hovercraft😁. Maybe some subtle rally style mudflaps too?
Just got a Govee indoor light. Has a ton of options for lighting. Colors and scenes. Definitely worth the money. You can also setup a schedule.
Hopefully this one has the upgraded head gasket :D
There was a recall from ford on the head gasket so they all should have the right one.
@@TheTechnoaddictbecause everyone pays attention to recalls….
Whoever is watching this video, never give up on your dreams.😇
Appreciate ya!
Sweet home Alabama, where the sky are so blue (XD), awesome car, need a downpipe on my scirocco
I was like oh how befitting of the car having a Madison County plate on it. LOL!
Congratulations on the Focus RS! That's my absolute dream car. Hope ya have fun with it!!
😂
The RS is my dream daily. AWD in Idaho winter is always nice to have.
They are an awesome car for daily driving, I did 120k miles in mine until sadly the engine decided to start missing and steaming, so be prepared for a rebuild at some point
nah, he's more than OK with rebuilding haha
because....... Ford.
All changes are upgrades. Looks really good. Personally I would've done the side mirrors in white as well, but as a total package it looks amazing 👌🏻
white mirrors hell no this isnt need for speed underground 1
@reniervandermerwe I think white mirrors would look better than the matte black. Or carbon mirrors. I just cant stand matte black, not my cup of tea.
I usually fast forward over the commercials, but those Govee lights were awesome!
Yup, all true. Mine literally started falling apart because roads in Buffalo are so bad. It is the worst daily driver in a cold climate ever.
Focus RS is a B road weapon, balanced perfectly with enough go to pull you round them country lanes nicely. Fiesta ST is also a B road weapon
Quafe transmission also just recently came out with QBE46Z sequential 5 speed 😏 I’m highly considering it
I totally agree; my Mk3 RS suspension was WAY too hard for UK roads and was a major factor in why I hated it so much
@@mred9161 ford should have included a rally suspension package option. The car has so much potential in the dirt.
I Jist picked up a 18 RS last month with 30,000km it's still got that new cat smell.
Sweet ride
having Friends like that is so cool u can do projects like that with a couple buddies love it man keep up the work
Borla is the way to go! Big fan of the changes you made to the car, looks excellent
The Focus even in Stock form is a nice ride, One of the best Fords since the Crown Vic :-)
Fiesta's are fun too
Focus RS , ST and titanium x are my favourite cars/trim but stupidly expensive on the first two.
I can honestly say I've never been jealous of Tavarish, or wanted any of his cars. I can't say that anymore. I want this car. This is a cool goddamn car.
As I Focus RS owner I am excited for this content!
I can only dream of an RS upgrade. No idea about in the USA but they're forever appreciating in the UK
You’re absolutely right. A clean stock example is msrp at 7 years old. Future collectors cars & by future I mean now lol
Bring that beast up to Gainesville cars & coffee. Next one is Nov 12. Would LOVE to see it.
I have an '18 RS in red with minimal mods - exhaust and oil catch cans.
The Focus RS might be my favourite car of all time. This might be enough to get me back to the main channel..
Exhaust packaging of THE GODS! No one will ever have anything other than a perfect exhaust after shipping... It is encased!
My KW tool kit looked like it was missing a tool also but as I had ELITE in Rainham fit my KW sport comfort coilovers I actually thought the fitter had forgot to put it back in the box after fitment 🤪 you learn something every day
Bro, thank you for kind who is the living real life for focus RS for us dream car best of the best thank you
The small motor for the exhaust is generally referred to as an "actuator", which moves in 2 directions.
Funny enough, this is the last generation of Focus we got in North America. Same with the Fiesta.
Should have gone with dark grey wheels . Nardo grey goes really good with that color. Personally I’d just go take them straight to the powder coater and say git er doneskis.
Awesome to see you got an RS Tav! You must start doing some track work with this cause it’s amazing! You’ll definitely love it 👌
You guys gonna do some Rallycross together?! Two rally legends in the same garage (homologation versions obv but still lol) That drive shaft on the RS is so tiny! Seems super thin even for AWD, but im no expert. The white wheels look amazing! White on blue is awesome, i like 5 spoke but the ones you have are classic also
Ooo, just found this extra channel, more to consume, love it!!!
The wheels look super nice...I think Jack's Hot Boy nature is rubbing off on Freddie and I love it!
I'm so glad you swapped out the 15 52s. Don't ask me why, but they are notorious for having leaking issues with the Focus and Fiesta ST/RSs. You'd have to pay me to take them. I had one friend who went through the warranty process and over 2 years he replaced 6 of them.
Tavarus, you are the man when it comes to car shows.
I can't wait to see you driving it in a future video (I'm hoping?) Dang, great taste there!
tavarischy is back (to basics). LOVED IT!
I’ve got an ST, wasn’t expecting an rs on the channel but glad it happened 😂
I wish I had that old exhaust for my focus rs
That lancer starting to look great . It was a lot of work to get there but wow can't wait to see it done
Finally! A relatable car again. I think I'm going to be sick if I see another P1 video.
Late to the game but the Focus Rs is my dream daily! I've always wanted the OG but we didn't get them in the states so when the announced this I was so excited. Been out of my price range though but maybe one day!
Nice colour RS Tav, that's my fav colour for the RS, the stripe and the wheels Tav the wheels..... very nice. But I can't see any Goold. Great old school Tavarish video.
Regardless of the noise level, the new exhaust sounds SO much better. Went from a fart can to an actual car.
Had this same exhaust on my ST, cool to see this build.
High flow cats makes a world difference on back pressure, giving it a deeper Throatier sound! You'll definitely fill the hp power different's they work very well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
