I’m normally not a fan of full wood (I like more mono colours), but this is one of the most beautiful vans I have ever seen. From the layout to how everything is finished, it’s perfect! Well done guys, what a great space to call home 🙌🏼👌🏼

I couldn’t live without a tv or something I could watch
Haha! 😂 We can stream Netflix, watch DVD’s etc if we feel like a treat but honestly we seem to run out of time each day and mostly don’t end up watching anything much.

I was raised in a trailer in the 50s and 60s, and here in the States, that meant blonde wood (to keep it light)...consequently, I never want blonde wood around. I love dark stains and a 'richer' feel to the wood, if it has to be unpainted. Yours is absolutely the very best example of leaving the wood tones to just look their best. The tung oil finish is surprisingly warm and you both did a great job with the pallet wood. I would have thought that all the detail, woodgrain, knots, etc. would have been too busy, but instead, it was just wonderfully varied and not at all a blonde wasteland...thanks so much for sharing your home, it is so beautifully thought out.

Very nice job on the interior.
If you’ve ever been in an accident, you’ll understand. Hit from the front (you crashing into something)or Rear ended (someone crashing into you) everything you don’t have “Securely) tied down is going to fly.The boards on the roof won’t hold, your guitar will be trashed. Drawers and doors will open, anything Large or small. It’s an easy fix, consider what might.
I had a friend who had a bowling ball in his van along with stuff A car pulled out, he jammed on the brakes, everything came at him, the bowling ball knocking him down Before the lumber and tools came. I have a thing about instruments too, I baby them, I’ve abused some, the weather, sun, cold, damp air, loose storage.
Maybe ship over to America an have a look around. Safe Journeys

It took you 3weeks to film and edit the tour lol, which is good because it means you were actually doing fun stuff like surfing instead of being on instagram and youtube with some make believe fake smile thangs, great job Charlie, your craftmanship shows in the little details.

The van is gorgeous. Well made using a lot of upcycled materials. I had to laugh when you talked about where your dirty washing lives. I have always thought how do people keep their van organised without somewhere to put dirty clothes and somewhere to put your rubbish. Anyway you guys did an amazing job. Well done.
Haha. Thanks Annette. We’ve tried to think of all those little things, like dirty washing. We have a place for everything, so we never have things laying around. We actually find our little space more ergonomic than a lot of households!

The top and bottom 'channel' to hang curtains from rods is called 'casing'. Piping is a round cord trim usually found on pillows or furniture cushions.

I have watched many many van build videos and I have to say yours is one of the most beautiful and well designed vans I have seen. The bench top pass-through to the cab is genius and the fabrics and colors are just gorgeous. (And I love the board bags too!) Well done!

This tour was fascinating ... at first glance it looked like a lot of timber thrown in 'a la knotty pine ' and a bit bodgy (oh the joys of a tiny smart phone screen). Compared to the sleek modernist, fully loaded vanlife tours you see in the USA this looked a bit conventional. BUT .......
OMFG ... as you were serenely showing us your van, the place opened up in exquisite detail and rendered my initial impression obsolete. The basin/shower was a good idea - especially for the temperate/tropical climate of Australia (as revealed later, you two are serious about your surfing with short and long boards). No-one wants to track sand inside so a hot outside shower is ideal. As you move inside, the van starts to reveal how beautifully constructed and CONSIDERED all the space saving design decisions are. The salvaged pallet woods are beautifully crafted and your choice of jewel coloured/tie dyed/paisley and mandala infused sarong fabrics as soft furnishings infused the interior and all the wood with a warm glow - really excellent design choice and not just randomly thrown together. Little accents like enameled mismatched metal knobs and lovely mitred woodwork made the interior sing. Some great design decisions were the hidden computer fan as a stove vent, the tiny wooden dowels for rails, the huge (hidden) chest fridge - (we all know why these are better than upright for vans) the clever surf board storage, the East West recessed permanent bed alignment, the study/seating nook, the 3 burner and grill high end gas stove (great score for cooking proper food) the lift up hatch for more bench space plus access to the cab and the storage solutions. The space and layout has been really thought out and is an intelligent resolution of the van dimensions. I didn't notice if you had installed a mozzie screen door over the big slider so you could keep that open too during the evening. Obviously you would close it at night unless really remote!! Do you think you might need a maxi fan or whatever in the roof? The Summers get hot even in Victoria. I know you probs don't need to go stealth as much as they do in the USA and Europe so I wondered if you had enough cross ventilation at night? As you can tell ... I loved your van and I have seen lots! Your curtain placement and fabric choice really make the van look fantastic and your attention to tidy storage solutions hooks, dowels etc lift this above most. Congratulations ... it looks great ( and huge). Thank you for uploading. A lot of people who haven't been to Australia don't know how dazzlingly bright, intense and hot the sun can get so a lovely golden wood cave is the perfect answer ... not white interiors the snow bunnies love coz they only get 5 hours of sun in winter !!!!

Love the rustic look, but as U don"t have a separate bthrm & kitchen sink I would get a collapsible salad-bowl insert 4 the sink 4 washing dishes, fruit & veggies, etc.
Who cares? Did thousands of years of cavemen have two sinks?
Beautifully finished van. I've always avoided using solid timber on previous conversions due to a poor resale value, but after seeing this work of art I need to to rethink things! Definitely a warm weather van, for use here in the UK a shower, toilet and heating would be essential. I'm sure this will suit you both fine for years to come.
Thanks!! Yep, we set it up for warm weather. Stays nice and cool in summer. Would also need a fireplace if it was in the UK. Haha.

What a fantastic Van build and I was hoping after watching your other Vid, you would explain how you built this Van but from what you have shown it is a very relaxing and comfortable van. I like the front access lifting the bench top to access the front cabin. really nice. You could easily do a long term travel in this Van, Most excellent guy's. the cooking area is an inviting ease of use and a place one would enjoy being in especially when you open the door to some fantastic views. Much better than suburbia and back yard neighbours.
