    'Intelligent engineering' is how I would describe this build. Very good.

  • @injector221
    @injector221 ปีที่แล้ว +113

    You should move your main negative to the bottom battery. The way it's hooked up your first battery is taking the most wear, by moving it the power has to flow through all the batteries for any load (Victron has a document you can read on this). I would also suggest adding some kind of divider between the water hear plumbing and your electrical. When (not if) you get a leak it'll save your electrical components from getting wet.

    • @rogermccaslin5963
      @rogermccaslin5963 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      These are wired in parallel. I don't see how the connection point would make a difference. I looked for the Victron info but didn't find it. Do you have a link?

    • @injector221
      @injector221 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rogermccaslin5963 I didn't say anything about parallel or series wiring. The issue is that your batteries close to the connection point will see more wear that the ones further. That is why it is reccomended that you connect + on one side of the whole pack and - on the other side so that all batteries see the same amount of wear. Thanks. I believe OP responded with a link (although I don't see it now). I read their section and the internal resistance of the battery is what I recall reading. I'm obviously not an expert but having had boats with multiple batteries, it seems to me that the difference in battery longevity is negligible but I could be wrong as I never studied it. My experience is if one battery fails, the others are soon to follow.
      Having said that, I have no problem adjusting my own thoughts and changing the connection points because it certainly can't hurt.

    great job ! amazing that you were able to fit a stand alone shower in a non-extended van and still have descent room for everything else. After seeing 100's of van videos, I think you nailed it. The extended van would have given you more room to play with and ,maybe a bit more storage, but i thing i would be happier with a smaller rig due to the ease of driving and manoevering around the city and parking lots.

  • @janetfolkerts5827
    @janetfolkerts5827 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Amazing DIY..I really like that you turned around the driver's seat and left open the front. When you step in it appears so much larger.
    Most cram a wall against the driver's seat. I'm a single woman and wouldn't need such a large bed which i would widen the narrow closet into a pull out pantry. I would suggest a tilt out trash bin for on the garage door under the bed which would be handy for the kitchen. Insulating the space over the driver and passenger seats and using that for more storage than window screens would be an added bonus in temp control. The shower and the garage both looks great. Great job..Thank you for sharing.

  • @MikeAndTum

    I added a hot water recirculation loop for our shower on a solenoid. I can hit a switch and it circulates the hot water in the pipes so we don’t lose a lot of water getting it to temperature. Only takes a few seconds. We also put in a thermostatic mixer valve so there is no fiddling with the two valves getting the temperature right.
    I added a cielo breeze eco thermostat for our Houghton 3400 but it requires Wi-Fi for it to work. Our AC would short cycle a lot so I extended the thermistor outside the airflow.

    I plan on building my own van ( Ford Transit 3500 ) biggest they make at the end of the year. I don't have a garage anymore so 90% of the You tube van builds have people making their own cabinets, Thanks for the excellent idea to get Residential Bathroom Cabinets and Counters.

    Great job for 30 days! I’d like to see how the Mdf cabinets hold up after a year or so. Should be ok if they stay dry. Like the idea of raising the floor for feet at swivel seats. I’ll likely steal that idea.

    Great work and great video! I can see the strugle with the shower, I would also prefer to have a shower inside in the middle, the question is should you place it right behind the driver? or should you place it next to the bed as you did. The former blocks the driver's behind view but allows when you are in the back room to have more space, the latter allows you to have a small room behind the driver. I can also see that since you have finished up with the mechanics below the bed, you have the space available to make a living room setup with two square couches one opposite to the other with tables and make the bed retractable to be removed when needed. I would personaly want to take away the bed in the morning and create a desk. Really a great setup and the wall interior is really good work!

    I’ve often wondered about the van ac units. You already have all of the machinery in your van, compressor, evaporator condenser and controls. Add an electric motor to power it and you can save on installation of complete new system.

  • @retiredandroaming
    @retiredandroaming 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    One of the nicest, smartest, diy layouts and executions I've seen. Well done! Move your battery negative wire to the bottom battery to help reduce the imbalance you currently have with your parallel batteries. ?This is especially important with LifePO4 parallel batteries due to their inherent low internal resistance which makes loads balancing across parallel batteries more critical. It will take a minute to correct this, so no reason to not improve this small issue that will become a bigger issue over time.

    Love this build! I'm definitely going with the 159wb, the 170s are too scary for me to drive, LOL! Only changes I would make to this is to eliminate the storage cabinet under the extra seat and put a slide out platform so that the cassette toilet could go on it and slide in and out (and put a door) to shower and not have to take it out. I would then also add cabinets on the other wall of the bed for more storage. And I'd add a cat door under the bed and put the litter box in the "garage/basement" for my kitties! :) I do wish the fridge wasn't on the ground though....I hate bending over, I need to find a way to put it up higher but not sure where. I'd also add another flip up counter extension that would be by the door extending the counter on the left side of the sink. Love that you were able to do store bought cabinets! I add cabinets above the dining table too and probably switch the fan and A/C unit places, this way the fan could ventilate while cooking and I need AC on me when sleeping. And a microwave is a must! I retire from teaching in 3 years and will be 55 at that time. I have a 3 year goal of buying a van and taking time to build it and then off I go!

    I agree with you win the fridge. Why so many people install them??? 12v fridges have less room in them because they need more room behind to make a 12v work etc. Plus they are sooo expensive. A normal house fridge is about two thirds cheaper of the price than a 12v. And because it's 12v in the summer it can't always keep up with keeping my beer the way I like it. Very nice. Every thing an RV camper needs, and adequate for some full-timers. In some environments, a shade awning over the curb side would be nice to reduce heat on that wall. We’re 5th wheel RVers, and rarely use our awning, bit we have a weatherproof screenroom where we spend most of our time outside. We cook outside on induction cookers, so we don’t heat up the kitchen. It would be worth $50 to buy an extra portable induction cooker since yours is built in. And, a swing-up table at the sliding door would give you a place to use it. Don’t stop now. You built a great starting point. I like the other suggestions about the batteries and separating the water heater from the electrical components. Enjoy. You all did a great job. 🙌🏻

    Regarding the Electrical in the Garage: I see some of the wiring connectors although they look like you did a good job installing the system, I see some of the wiring is exposed (mostly at the connection points ) Since its a garage and you may have some metal items moving around, I would be concerned about possible electrical shorting?

    I love the simplicity Of your build And the speed of you Explanation Have the bill I'm getting ready to do a build out myself And I just showed your video to my wife And she Loved it as well Great job I would love to have a price breakdown If that's possible Because I need to know how much money I need to build a van like you did It would really help to know the price before I get started. I I subscribed to your channel And will be watching your other videos.

      The build on this one was about 15,000. Prices are going up on everything though so can't guarantee it would still be that price. Our Transit we just built was significantly more expensive.
