I cannot wait until every NPC is fully AI driven in RPGs. They’ll know your ingame name, remember the things you’ve done in game, have conversations, romance, rivalry, just hanging out with your NPC bros. I’m so ready.
This has the potential to change games forever. Companions will actually feel like companions. Imagine a full party of companions like this in an RPG all with their own distinct personalities, quirks, likes, and dislikes, etc. That you could freely talk to like this whenever, wherever. That would be insane. Imagine talking down a villain with your own words instead of preset dialogue, or even just asking a random NPC for directions.

Asmon joked about doing raids with AI in WoW but that's something I do want. A party of 5 I can give preset behaviors but also use my voice to command if needed. Similar to giving instructions to other players on discord.
There’s already an ai mod which lets you say anything to any npc in Skyrim, and they’ll respond with a unique reply limited to the knowledge that npc should know. That’s the future.
Imagine having charakters with different levels of knowledge. You could have an old wizard companion wich is hooked to the wiki of the game and you can ask him everything about the lore and how factions work together. And you REALLY can ask him. Like explain small details and such
The different levels of knowledge thing reminds me of Dragon's Dogma pawns. They're not always the brightest, and definitely have limited/repeating dialogue, but their knowledge system is pretty interesting. Each pawn has unique levels of bestiary knowledge. As they gain more experience that knowledge increases, and their ai gets progressively better at fighting specific enemies the higher their knowledge level on that enemy is. They learn specific tactics from their Arisen, and to a lesser extent from other pawns and Arisen. After a time your pawn should start emulating the way you play/fight, and is a reflection of the player. (You can learn a lot about a player from observing their pawn.) It can be a sight to behold when you see a well trained pawn. They're capable of absolutely dominating the battlefield. Alternatively you might also see some weird learned behaviors like jumping a lot when ghosts appear, throwing their fellow pawns at enemies, or taking the time to carefully move exploding barrels out of the way at the start of a fight. What makes this even more insane though is the fact that the developers purposefully nerfed their intelligence. (I'm paraphrasing here, but this is the gist of it.) The developers stated that they could have made the pawns smarter, but wanted them to feel more alive or something to that extent. (Forgot the exact words.) Average intelligence pawns are already pretty impressive in general. What I want to know is what they were like before they got dumbed down‽ Sorry for rambling btw; this is just absolutely insane to me, and when I saw what you said about npc's with varying amounts of experience, and knowledge my proverbial dam broke. 😅
i mean you can already basically do that in fallout 4 all you need to do is look at the follower, press a button and then look at an enemy and press a button. fallout 4 has really good follower mechanics.

A few points regarding the voice and other features : This showcase is using Azure for the text-to-speech, but the mod also supports Elevenlabs, which sounds WAY more realistic, but costs more to use. Also, regarding her personality, you can tell her to be pretty much anything with a simple paragraph. I fine-tuned her personality so she never breaks the 4th wall, but I also saw someone configure her more like a "second player" that comments on the game and other irl things. You could probably tell her "Act like Asmongold" and she would probably do a good imitation. The possibilities are endless. P.S. She is so sassy and sarcastic because her default personality is something like "You are Herika, a Breton that likes jokes and sarcasm."

It's because is an old game from 2011 and AI requires a lot of resources already. So they are not going to test using a more modern game, at least for now.

Everyone will have their own version of a game that gets modfied while you play and the ai builds stories, characters, events and additional map content.
Video game rpgs will finally achieve the level of depth you'd find in a dungeons and dragons campaign ran by an amazing dungeon master. With a game that's able to react to players actions on any scale, people will have 1,000+ hour stories that are unique experiences. It'd be awesome if an ai could turn these stories into books, to give people a way to share the stories they played.

I recall similar tech on ps2. There was a headset made for a Socom game where you could verbally issue orders to your team. Another game that utilized the socom headset was lifeline which I still have!
There was a neat experiment not too long ago about an AI driven town, where an AI was assigned to a specific role in keeping the town running smoothly. Apparently it was a success.
Imagine a companion telling a player that they're completely unbearable, and wonders if anyone in their real life even loves them. Therapists are going to be in demand like no other point in history.
Different NPCs could have separate tolerance levels for bullshit. They can leave the party if the player is an asshole. And viceversa, if the player is too nice, an evil companion would leave.
With Voice AI getting so much traction nowadays, unspoken dialogue is a thing of the past for games. The most prominent for me would be RPGs/JPGs. Gone will be the days of me typing in my character’s name and having the characters call me something generic. They’ll be able to speak my name aloud.
This makes sense for game devs only having to pay voice actors for their voice sample and they can generate the whole game dialogue from it for a low cost.
This actually opens up alot of new fun ways to play, like telling her " Should i join the dawnguard or the vampires?" " Stormcloack or Imperials?" it's cool!
imagine in the future your able to just ask ai to make a completely original game out of nothing, a brand new experience that suites your specific needs
We'll start seeing games where just the setting is made by devs and then an AI will curate entire unique playthroughs and endings that are different for every single person every single time. I've already completely replaced the voices of some characters in a few old CRPGs I play. My party in ToEE is me, Henry Cavill as a fighter, Awkwafina as a thief, and the preacher Joel Osteen as a cleric. Honestly AI voices can breath so much life into old games.
This is wild to me because back when Yogscast created Shadow of Israphel, I thought they were using this exact technology to populate their game. I eventually realised that idea was too far fetched and now years later it’s a reality
Now all Blizzard needs to do is for quests and dialogues be written by AI and we will have actual consistency in story, maybe we'll even find out what about the god-damned sword.
This isn't the only possibility for AI in games. The newest version of Galactic Civilization IV will use AI to create a custom faction for you to play based on your description, including AI generated portraits and backgroung story. And the art AI is trained only on their own art, so no issues there.
xqc ai was the first time i found out that almost seamless ai voice was possible. i immediately thought about skyrim and all those good mods that dont have any voice actors, as soon as the technology was possible i knew this was the future of gaming.

I've been waiting for years - for DECADES - for games to just be able to say my damn name in-game. That ALONE is the life-changing improvement I've been waiting for. No more "Dragonborn" or "Grey Warden" or "Inquisitor" or "Hawke" or "Shepard" or anything like that. Games have done their best to get around this restriction, and I have definitely appreciated the success they've had, but I'm so ready to move past work-arounds.
Think of a boss that remembers you from previous encounters... Townsfolk that celebrate your legend and merchants that save items for you because you've been playing for years (think mmo) .... and they remember, they remember the favors and quests.

Now all Blizzard needs to do is for quests and dialogues be written by AI and we will have actual consistency in story, maybe we'll even find out what about the god-damned sword.

This isn't the only possibility for AI in games. The newest version of Galactic Civilization IV will use AI to create a custom faction for you to play based on your description, including AI generated portraits and backgroung story. And the art AI is trained only on their own art, so no issues there.

xqc ai was the first time i found out that almost seamless ai voice was possible. i immediately thought about skyrim and all those good mods that dont have any voice actors, as soon as the technology was possible i knew this was the future of gaming.
Btw, there are actually Unicorns in Tamriel, they’re just not in Skyrim as far as I know. I do know for certain there are Unicorns in the Imperial Empire

I've been waiting for years - for DECADES - for games to just be able to say my damn name in-game. That ALONE is the life-changing improvement I've been waiting for. No more "Dragonborn" or "Grey Warden" or "Inquisitor" or "Hawke" or "Shepard" or anything like that. Games have done their best to get around this restriction, and I have definitely appreciated the success they've had, but I'm so ready to move past work-arounds.

Think of a boss that remembers you from previous encounters... Townsfolk that celebrate your legend and merchants that save items for you because you've been playing for years (think mmo) .... and they remember, they remember the favors and quests.
