Honestly this comment gives me the vibe that you haven't played any. Sure they're harder if you're fatrolling all of the time like this guy, but if you actually have a planned build which I did on my first run the game isn't hard. That is the key to this game: just focus on a certain build when levelling up. Don't level every stat equally, pick a weapon/group of weapons you'd like to use and build around that. For example want to use large strength based weapons? Go for a strength build or perhaps even a quality build if you like quality based weapons. Want a sorcery based build? Level int and use int scaling weapons. The game is a lot harder if your build is all over the place and you don't do enough damage or your build is just poorly optimised in general.

Yeah, as Beau Allen said, it’s just a learning curve. And that goes for pretty much all the Soulsborne games, although Bloodborne is a bit different due to the trick weapons and such. You should really play Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Even Demon Souls when the remake comes out. Worth it.
I love making new characters in darksouls games, trust me after a while (maybe like 10-20 runs) you know where everything is by just knowing what area you're in I imagine that doing runs daily for stream will have that effect times 100

As a former speed runner who had a third place on an old 3D platformer, I can say easily that when you're on a good run, you feel like it's a bad run when you see the splits. The aim is to try and get perfect splits (Sum of Best) but that's not likely to happen due to RNG. It's also a psychological thing, it helps to settle your nerves and relax you by psyching yourself down rather than up, when you feel like you're going great, you'll take more risks.

This is the only video of asmongold I ever watched, but I did it like 5 times. It's just pure greatness. Love you guys, Love you ellajaz, you a pure soul of the gaming world.
It practically is. The only unintentional damage taken here was the mistimed jump at the bridge and consequently the hydra which was a gamble that paid off. Every other source of damage was calculated.
Speedrunners really are on another dimension. I'm in awe everyday tuning into Distortion 2. The speed, accuracy, perfection. it's fun to watch and i don't even speed run myself.

honestly I was like that when I first watched speedruns. If you just play the game normally, exploring and doing everything as intended; then seeing a speedrun like this is a huge mind fuck.

The game took me tens of hours to beat as well, being stuck on almost every boss for at least an hour, often more, etc. If I, right after finishing my first playthrough, and doing the 30 minute "I'm awesome, yeah" celebratory song and dance, if I then went to watch this speedrun, I would be reacting about the same way.

It practically is. The only unintentional damage taken here was the mistimed jump at the bridge and consequently the hydra which was a gamble that paid off. Every other source of damage was calculated.

Speedrunners really are on another dimension. I'm in awe everyday tuning into Distortion 2. The speed, accuracy, perfection. it's fun to watch and i don't even speed run myself.

I watched a speedrun of darksiders once, I played that game on high difficulty and died sooo much and took so long to even beat some "mobs" and in a speedrun you just sit there like "wait what did he just do" and have major brainlag
honestly I was like that when I first watched speedruns.
If you just play the game normally, exploring and doing everything as intended; then seeing a speedrun like this is a huge mind fuck.
as Q_Eredaane says. The game took me tens of hours to beat as well, being stuck on almost every boss for at least an hour, often more, etc.
If I, right after finishing my first playthrough, and doing the 30 minute "I'm awesome, yeah" celebratory song and dance, if I then went to watch this speedrun, I would be reacting about the same way.

Watching gamers who are unfamiliar with speedrunning watch it blind is always wonderful. You get desensitized to how little some of this stuff makes sense without the context of thousands of people working to optimize a game to perfection.
This so much. I think it's great that he picked up on so many details on the fly while obviously knowing very little about the run or speedruns in general.

Yeah, some games are still being optimized by speedrunners after 10+ years, like the old Mario and Zelda games that people are STILL finding new tricks for to this day. It's awesome.
