Howdy, friends. The problem is that slam fire is the commonly accepted term for what is happening here, and I have yet to hear anyone suggest a good alternative. If you are one of these people and you'd like to suggest a different term, please do so in the replies to this comment so the rest of us can point and laugh. Thanks.

They were used in korea and Vietnam as well. But the 40s the army had begun to adopt the hammerless m12 or Winchester model 1912 which is basically the same gun with the moving parts inside the frame and no slam option. From the end of Vietnam to Iraq 1 the army would start to phase in the Remington 870. Today they mostly use Mossberg 500 or 590 (difference is basically a straight stock vs a pistol grip) or the mas- which is technically a gun but in reality is more of an attachment. You mount it under an m4 or whatever. When it comes to pump shotguns there are a few unique aspects to procurement. First being that there is many advantages to a pump shotgun over a semi automatic shotgun. Such as reliably being able to use it with varying kinds of loads. Like a semi-automatic shotgun will work perfectly with buckshot but then you put breaching rounds in it and it screws up the timing and gets jammed (example). Given pumps don't usually have all the attachments that come with them like a rifle does. Like magazines, special parts that need to be changed all the time (shotguns are pretty robust), different kinds of ammunition. Shotguns don't have any of that going on there all the same caliber (in the army 12 gauge), several of the models share components and they are tube fed. So is really no need to get rid of the old guns as you start to acquire the new ones. Therefore there's almost always a bunch of overlap with shotguns that you wouldn't see with like a rifle system. The one exception being the Armalite Rifle model 15 or AR-15 variants of which there are several and all being used at the same time. like the m4, m16, sig416, spr, mk18, etc.. are all being used at the same time and share 90% of their parts or more and use the same 5.56mm cartridge. If you ever shot a shotgun you’ll realize why they called them trench guns. You fire a 12 gauge 5 times down a hallway, aka a trench at 3 bad guys and just guess the outcome. Hell you fire once or twice and they are done but you pump 5 rounds of buckshot…. Fatality

Germans in the trench: proceeds to use flamethrowers and mustard gas
My brother and I couldn't figure out why dad never missed a rabbit or bird with his old 97 until one day he happened to mention that in the service the inlisted men could go to the range, on their time off, and shoot clay birds for free with winchester 97s the military provided. (Not the trench guns). Since dad spent most of his pay as soon as he got it, he spent the rest of his free time at the range. If a rabbit ran buy him and that old 97 went off, Just open your pouch, you got one. I still have a 97 today.
Enlisted*....ran BY* him"....***** I mean, you used the correct "Their" , but don't know how to spell enlisted, or what BY to use? 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤷🏻

One of my friends carried a Browning Auto5 in Vietnam. He was the point man on patrols.
With that weapon, I can certainly understand why he'd be running point.
Such a barbaric and vicious weapon, nothing like my spiked club and flamethrower.
The only boom stick that could possibly claim the title of 'Full-semi automatic "😅😁👍 love it.

10g 97' Winchester?
That's one savage looking shot gun.
That barrel is so short!! Stock or pistol grip?
That's one gun I would love to have above most for home defense.
I have a 12g, 97' Winchester. But it is more of a hunting set up.
The built in choke on the barrel is so tight, you cannot fit a dime down the end of the barrel.... On a 12g. Combined with the long barrel, custom stock build to fit my 6'5" frame comfortably, it makes one hell of a pheasant gun. Was a great goose and duck gun in it's day, but don't even think about shooting synthetic heavy shot, or steel shot through it.
I have always wanted get another one to deck out for home defense.
This video just made that dream come back to life.

Model 1897 was a Winchester, not a Browning
It was designed by John Browning under contract to Winchester, he also designed the Winchester Model 1873
The cooling jacket on those old trench shotguns really make it look really cool. Definitely a good design.
Edit: my dumbass called it a cooling jacket, it’s a heat shield. Thanks Greg Dzialo!
It's a beautiful gun furrshire
Those barrel "heat shields" were still available on the Mossberg 590 M&P in the mid-'90s & also included a bayonet lug mounted under the muzzle. But, I don't know if they're still made new today. I think there is also somebody selling re-conditioned M1897 Winchester's as depicted in this vid & those originals are going for about $1500.

Imagine if there was a reload time like this in a video game.
There technically is. It's called Reciever (and its sequel, Reciever 2). In that game, every single step of reloading is mapped to a different key, so you have to do it all manually while going up against flying drones shooting at you at the same time. Oh, and the map, your inventory, and your gun are randomized every time you die. And you die in a single hit. Good luck.
BF1 has slow realistic reloading with some of the revolvers but that's about it.

Forgot to lean the barrel sideways and huff the gunpowder. I'd hit that smoke like a damn vet in Nam. That's the good shit

Fatality
That shit gave me whiplash just watching it
