    Plagueis is one of my favorite Sith Lords. Not because of his abilities with the force, or his lightsaber skills. No none of that there are others I admire more for those things. I like Plagueis for his intellect and sophistication as he arrogantly playes 3 dimensional Chess and Go maneuvering the pieces around on the board of the Grand Plan ! There wouldn't have been a Sidious without Darth Plagueis the Wise !

    Plagueis was far from the most evil Sith, he pursued perfection within the Force as a means of elevating all sentient life, and that made him more vulnerable. Under different circumstances I believe he could have been a Jedi, though not a conventional one.

      True but one of his biggest sins against the force itself was keeping Darth Venamis alive while he conducted horrific experiments on him.
      Also even though in his later years when he shows Sidious a lot of affection, he also still believed that he could control the force, rather than serve it. Which is the fatal sith flaw.

    I have to say I appreciate, in some ways, that he did feel that way, even if he didn't want to, or couldn't consciously understand it, because after his near-death on Coruscant, by assassins who weren't even there for him, but that he wasn't aware of until their trap was already sprung, and he gravely injured, if he didn't, I'd have to question that intellect. The universe is a much bigger place then the spot one stands in, as is time a much greater stretch than the moment in which one occupies. The Sith, and others, have tried, and failed, over countless ages. A simple ship malfunction could leave onecstranded in hyperspace, or adrift in the vast expanses even just within this galaxy. That ship could blow up; whole world's could blow up, and end a life, a plan, an ideology, and it would be foolish to think oneself so untouchable by chance; so central to existence that the very galaxy would strive to retain one, that "backup plans" are unnecessary, even if admitting it openly is impossible.
    It's also not seemingly so alien a concept that Plagueis saw the flaw in the Rule of Two. Even the man who penned it as law, who planned for it to be the new, best thing, didn't seem prepared to accept his end; he planned to hijack fate by leaping into his own apprentice, and existing on in a mockery of his own ideal. The first RoT Sith did this, Tenebrous did this. Plagueis at least didn't plan to accept it any more readily than his predecessors, and Sidious was no more prepared, from atop the worm pile, to give up his hard-fought gains then basically every other Sith before him.

    The rule of 2 is an endless loop as there wasn't going to be an ultimate sith lord which is why each apprentice killed their Master. Which can be seen as a weakness of the sith as if their were to be a chosen one they would be equally strong with both the darkside and the lightside of the force. There can be no darkness without light and the opposite is also true.

  • @isaacthomas9071
    @isaacthomas9071 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Essentially, Plagueis thought fully-trained Sith were still useful. In the book it said he wanted "a partner," and he called Sidious a "recruit." He knew the Sith plans were coming true, so he wanted someone around to help him. He was a businessman after all, and he wanted to have like-minded people around him who would guarantee the company's (that is, the Sith Order's) success.

  • @ratzfatz6880
    @ratzfatz6880 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wonder how many knowledge was lost to the Rule of Two. The master doesn't teach his apprentice a technique because he sees it as mundane, or even unnecessary. Someone could easily forget something here and there, or get killed before he teaches everything he knows. And this can go through the entire line and before the sith realize it their power slowly erodes. They might not even recognize it because due to having to stay in hiding they can't test their prowess in a proper battle against a jedi.

    • @JohnA...
      @JohnA... ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No one really followed it anyhow (they all took multiple apprentices "just in case" so no Rule of TWO), but much of the reason it was an outright failing was because the masters NEVER taught their apprentices everything they knew, not because it was mundane or unnecessary, but out of fear that their apprentices would become more powerful than them. Even though the whole concept was exactly that, the master would teach everything and when the apprentice was strong enough they would challenge (and kill) their master and take over.

    Did Plagueis and Sidious actually follow the rule of two?
    Or at least follow it the way Darth Bane had intended?
    From what i gather Darth Bane intended for his apprentice to beat him in an honorable duel, as in the apprentice would use every skill and trick in the force taught to him/her by his/her master in a duel to the death.
    If we look at how both Plaguies and Sidious killed their master, they most certainly didn´t do it like that.
    Plaguies killed his master by making rocks fall down on him unaware and Sidious killed Plaguies by getting him drunk and killing him in his sleep.
    Neither of those two defeated their master in a duel.
    So maybe you could argue that the rule of two had fallen pray to the very thing Bane had intended for it to avoid.

    • @AndreNitroX
      @AndreNitroX ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The nature of the dark side is treachery. Even bane probably knew not all of the sith after him would duel honorably to prove their strength. After all the tools of the sith are cunning and ruthlessness. But I will admit killing your master in their sleep, does comes across as cowardly compared to a sith who fueled fairly.

    • @matiasrodriguez7408
      @matiasrodriguez7408 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the true purpose of the rule of two was to sneak up on the Jedi and destroy them forever at the right time, furthermore, since the nature of the dark side is treachery and deception, the rule of two also prevents the Sith from ganging up into factions and waste time killing each other to take control (a civil war between the Sith is impossible if there is only one master and one apprentice)

    • @Erikjust
      @Erikjust ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matiasrodriguez7408 Does it now?
      We have already seen that while Maul wasn´t a true Sith apprentice, he was a so-called Sith Assassin.
      And Plagueis in the book, discovered that his master had had SEVERAL apprentices beside him.
      If Maul hadn´t been killed what was to stop him and Sidious from ganging up on Plagueis and kill him.
      Ala i will duel with him Maul and when his busy dueling with me, you come in from the back and its stabby stabby time.
      The rule of two was already broken if we assume that Plagueis was still alive, when Sidious took Maul as his "apprentice".
      Because then there wasn´t just two, there where three and nothing prevented them from ganging up on Plagueis and killing him.
      So again once the loop holes of as long as they are not "true" Sith apprentices we can have as many as we want..
      They would be subject to the same flaw that Bane tried to prevent.
      You could argue that most fervent follower of the rule of two was Maul.
      He only ever taught one his brother, and that is despite him having several mandelorians at his beck and call.
      If he had been just a treacherous as Sidious, he could have had them wait in the wings and as soon as Sidious entered... he could basically unleash EVERYTHING including the kitchen sink on Sidious.
      Sidious is strong in the force but i doubt he would be able to hold of a continual barrage of several blasters and flamers and probably a few rockets for good measure.

    I don't like the Rule of 2 either but for pretty different reasons mostly because it doesn't actually fix the infighting and while it was able to get them in control of the galaxy for 20 years or so the Old Republic Sith had a much longer lasting empire and that's with their infighting (something that can happen in general as long as even two people exist but is more bound to happen with Sith ideology)
    Like the fact that they are brought up to kill their master and then accept their apprentice trying to kill them which clashes with the Sith fundamental of wanting power for yourself instead of just being told to forget about each other and exclusively kill their enemies

    The way I see it, if Darth Plagueis was as powerful as he thought he was then 1. He should’ve been able to withstand any attack from his Apprentice/Use force transfer to take over his apprentice or 2. He should’ve been clever enough to deduce Palpatine was plotting on betraying him for a year and kept his guard up even when they were celebrating on his last night. Personally I believe attacking the master while he sleeps is unwise as there is a chance you missed something he failed to reveal yet (of course if Palpatine was as equal to Plagueis as the later claimed then this worry is irrelevant).
    Side note I think a Sith Lord is only as powerful as his ability to protect what he cares for most, be it himself or those closest to him. Having to watch out for anything other than yourself is a Weakness, but the Sith are all about gaining Power so they should be easily able to compensate for this. Some are like Malgus and prefer to use their pain to increase their power at the cost of their loved ones.

Only if the apprentice was powerful enough could they overthrow the master. This violent cycle utilized the treacherous nature of the sith and strengthened their lineage. Bane knew one day there would be a Sith Lord afraid to give up his power by choosing an apprentice. But unfortunately for plagues the nature of the dark side always came through. And of course plagues suffered an unhonourable death by being killed in his sleep, instead of a satisfying death like Banes, who at least new his apprentice Zannah was powerful enough to keep the line going.

    Vader killed Sidious. Rule of 2 killed him. Bane won again. Apprentice killed Master as his legacy designed. Bane wins.

    He had Vader, dooku, maul, and the female apprentice...is it because they were only dark acolyte rank, he followed rule of two? because it seems like he followed the rule of 5 with many plan b, c, d, and e.

    Stuck in traditions that didn't help them grow or expand. Jedi and Sith are too extreme. It's one way or the other no middle ground.

    I'm with plagius on this one I didn't like the rule of 2 either. It was only effective in hiding the sith. It didn't even really work to keep an empire either. It lasted 20 years in legends. That's not very long considering all of what they had to do to kill the jedi and their enhanced life spans. It was literally not worth it. I mean the vitiate did way more and for way longer with what he had.

    The ending is particularly cool. Palpy murders him _right before_ the "opera" performance where he tells Anakin of the legend of Plagueis. A legend, he'd literally just created. So, metaphorically any way, his master's blood was on his hands as he tells Anakin the story. Except, of course, that he lies to the younger man - Plagueis did not know how to bring people back from the dead. His experiments had proven to be mostly failures.
