This is a Drum Cover and Drum Lesson to Meshuggah's song Bleed from their album obZen. The double kick drum lesson is at 7:15 and features a beat breakdown of the two main double kick patterns along with exercises and motions that helped me play this song. I wanted to keep the sound of my drums as raw and 'true' as i could. I didn't use triggers or sound replace the parts.
*I recently did a remix of the audio and re-upload the video to my Facebook page. Can be viewed here: / troywrightdrums

This song is so fucking heavy, it has it's own gravitational field.
Thunderfork everything has one
Shady Character you must be fun at parties
technically, mass defines the force of gravity an object contains, not weight.
«its»
Heavy and difficult
Starts playing the song: “IM DOIN IT, IM DOIN IT!”
My legs 30 seconds later: “NOPE!”
This is soo mee
You make it farther than most
I’ve almost got the foot pattern down, can’t get past the 15 second mark though :(
@Sabertooth 82 I just watched this lol: th-cam.com/video/2Gw_7BrLDdc/w-d-xo.html
*3 seconds later
wouldn't mind living next to him..
"OH ITS BLEED AGAIN! GO SON"
*phwoar*
One of the few songs of any genre I NEVER get sick of. That, Blood and Thunder by Mastodon and The Art of Dying by Gojira. Never, ever skip those three songs and they've been on my workout playlist for like 7 years lol.
@@IloveGorgeousGeorge
Epic Songs!!!!!
Wanna go outside and play catch son?
@@IloveGorgeousGeorge i get you. totally bleed and the art of dying never bore me
Agreed- absolutely love The Art of if Dying by Gojira. Never tire of thar song. I am going to check out that song mentioned by Mastodon. Brann Dailor is also a beast like Mario.
Your meshuggah covers are just outstanding!
Josh Steffen Now time for YOU to do Bleed buddy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Bleed (Lars version)
Blars
Hey i found you (again)! you better do a cover of this! (your all out life one was great btw).
Come on Josh, waiting for your cover mate!
2022 and this is still the best Bleed cover on youtube. Bravo
el estepario siberiano has a really sick one too
ONE tiny mistake in this song would throw the whole song off… meshuggah are professionals.
RIP lots of things.
Hahaaa 😂
All up (transcribing, learning, practicing, playing) maybe 2 months? I would practice this most days here and there. The hardest part for me was getting over the endurance with my left foot. I hadn't played much double kick before this
Someone didn't forget leg day
xD!
This IS the leg day! lmao
Trying to figure out who ripped off who's comment on the real video of this lol
Yeah and double dropset calves as a finisher lol
leg day doesn't skip Troy Wright,
the beauty of this song over the years is that isnt "complicated" rudient per rudiment, but the coordination, and mental strain of remaining LOCKED IN for 7 min is such a killer
Precisely. Buddhist level concentration.
Troy is the man.
Tomas Haake is the God.
Meshuggah... the Universe.
Good one.😆👌
11 years ago. Pure respect. 🔥
I got tendonitis in my legs just by watching this
I lol'd
i lol'd that
I cannot believe this video has dislikes. This is amazing. I wish I could play at least 10 seconds of this song clean. Amazing job Troy!
Now there ain't any 😂
@@samuelphom9432 That's a bad thing. Even if you disagree with someones opinion they should still be shown. Having a center hivemind now not even show the consequences of let's say a really bad video is not freedom. I bet you it wasn't many dislikes too.
I am not a drummer, but these lessons are fucking fantastic.
same, this helps me as a guitar choker
That must've herta lot
Good one
Crazed Clark Lol
I like you.
Good one
wut u did ther, i c
this has to be the most precise cover of a ridiculously complex foot pattern ive ever seen...amazing
So, you're one of the two people int he world that can play this shit. Well done !
Well, three: him and Thomas Haake and also Adam Gray
Andrew D. Royappa better put Mike portnoy, and a bunch of others on that list ☺
I guess I was just referring to people that had put up covers on TH-cam. I'm sure there are lots in the world, somewhere... Not me certainly lol
Its funny because I think in an interview Thomas Haake said the song almost got cut because he wasn't sure he could even play it after his accident.
And Owen McKinley - Meshuggah - bleed - drum cover
I'm not even a drummer and I watched this like 4 times.
I am not a drummer but your cover sounds amazing and flawless. Wow!
" Mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in, next to soccer." Loki obviously wasn't a metal drummer...
+Robert Lenn Probably not the american modern one.... The original mythology one is probably the closest the gods ever came to metal drummers :P
+THERAMMSTEINFAN490 Now I want to see a show like dethklok with norse gods playing songs written by meshuggah and amon amarth.
I went to learn this song the other day and the only part I got perfect was 4:21 - 4:35 Freaking Perfectly Nailed it !!
damn that's impressive
😆😆😆😆
Stixnfeet Durden LMAO
Underrated comment
Me too! High five!
I've watched this video so many times and it never ceases to amaze me the amount of work you put in to make every single song you play just perfect. Been following you for years and it seems like an eternity between each upload you put out even if it's just a few weeks. xD Keep it up!
Lesson plan for the day:
1. Learn this song
2. Train legs at the gym
me: "Oh good, only one thing on the list today!"
Troy Wright, Messhugah covers, plini, intervals, always great great music.
After learning this, I wonder if he can walk down the street normally.
Belligerent nah he just flexes a calf and flies across
nah man in walks in 16th notes with a 32nd every 2 steps
......that is how he walks normally...
You can run like that guy Flash after this
@@sodamnboredv3460 that would result in the most complicated gallop style casual walking ever.
you sir have great taste. I've seen that you do all kinds of cool songs!!!! BRAVO!
who needs sprints. play this for a cardio routine lol
I was thinking the same thing. Haha
lmao
You dont do sprints for cardio
This turns your legs into cement.
High intensity cardio for long distance lol
I never thought I could use the terms 'horsepower' and 'torque' for someone's feet ! Great job mate.
Gym Employee: "We've seen you come in and out of here for 2 years and never hit legs, yet they're always on point. What's you're secret?"
This guy: 😏 🥁

I sent this video to my friend and this is what he said "His feet are like a 3 year old having a tantrum.
LMAO
What has been seen cannot be unseen.
that is what its like
+DRUMMINGANDDRIFTING yes indeed
Universal Chaos: a tantrum is what a little child does when they don't get what they want; like stomping their feet, crying, screaming, etc.
hahahaa thats hilarious
I can't imagine the feelings it brings when playing this song as tight as it was created. great job man
damn troy back at it again with the white vans
this is amazing, i love the way your legs just seem to glide in a sea of groove, you are the groove jesus. xD
Iridescent Noise so that's because it's a glide technique :)

Tomas Haake plays the main riff by spamming 16th notes with his left foot, and inserting the 32nd notes with his right!
are you sure? i think he's alternating actually. Your way is a lot easier for meBloodbath and Beyond
I'm not stating an opinion. Just watch a video of him playing the song! There are plenty on TH-cam.
without triggers it sounds better if you're alternating. that's all i need to know.
+Bloodbath and Beyond He plays RLR L RLR L ... the left foot indeed plays straight notes, but they are dotted 8ths not 16ths.
This works for me
Once again I'm blown away by your vids. Fucking awesome job man, you're a scholar, a gentleman and a beast on the drums!
Australian drummers FTW!! I was quite surprised that you Troy, are Australian.. That makes me a happy person!
DUDE this guy is badass and this video is very informative. I really appreiciate this... Never did I think id ever try to tackle this beat because it sounded so hard. but when you got a teacher like this going through the steps, its pretty fucking amazing. I cant thank you enough dude. THANK YOU!
This has to be the best cover of this song I've seen!!! You rock and keep it Heavy brother \m/
Troy's Happy cover has 1.8 million views. This should have triple that. One of the hardest songs to play on the drums in the world and he nails it. Awesome work, Troy.
This is the most important video for all metal drummers
By far the best drum cover I've ever seen.
Absolute perfection, mate🙏🏻
This man doesn’t do leg day
He does bleed day
Can you re-upload this in 60fps so I can actually see all of the kicks?
60 fps ain't enough here
Try 360fps
marckferrer
Yea that seems right
Gotta buy a 240 Hz monitor for this
This is the first time I've seen anyone do a "Bleed" drum cover passed four and a half minutes into that second half. Dude killed it.
One of the best drum covers i've seen in my life.
My older bro is trying to learn this on guitar and he's all "Uuugh, this is so hard" and I just look him dead in the eye and say "Someone, somewhere, is trying to learn the drums to this. The day you meet that person is the day you will see true suffering." But yeah, thanks for the vid, it helped me a lot.
On a side note, how many gallons of LSD do you think Meshuggah downs before trying to write their songs?
I've taken acid and trust me, following polyrhythms like these songs is the most difficult fucking thing to do. I tried making up a song, and after I was sober it didn't make any sense hahaha.
I don't believe they do anything beyond booze and pot in moderation. They all seem like pretty average joe kind of dudes. :)
***** Ha. that pic is awesome
This song would sound very different written on acid...I'd say they all bang meth. if they don't, and they start, their songs Will be 500bpm....minimum
meshuggah does trip alot. they even have a song named ayahuasca experience.
polyrythms are trippy as fuck.
Amazing to see you master all these Meshuggah masterpieces
Nice cover dude. I really like that you don't sound like somebody trying to imitate another drummer (in this case Haake), or even worse, a drum machine. You make this song groove. Most covers sound sterile to me. This one doesn't, you actually give it your own feel even though you are playing the same thing as Haake. That's what it's all about, keeps it from becoming a boring recital as opposed to a performance Anyway, great cover. Keep killin' it man.
I've seen this cover numerous times and not sure why I didn't give it a like, but I dropped a like this time. This cover is superb!
I'm a guitarist and this shit is crazy to me! Cheers dude! This is great!
My God your incredible! I want to learn drums because of this song and now I know there is a great lesson on TH-cam I know it's possible. Thanks for the inspiration man
So glad Plini picked this guy up. Crazy good O_o
Yea right! Saw this cover ages ago, loved it, just got into plin, checked the drum covers, watched this again, blown away again, top notch!
This guy is the drummer for Plini?
I like how you throw the ghost notes in there every other beat between snare hits. Seems like another really good way to teach people how to find a way to squeeze them into their tracks. I really like your breakdown of the timings. Really gave it a smooth learning progression. Cheers!
You were wearing jeans man
he wasnt even at full power
what do you mean, i always wear a jean when i play drums
I have no fucking clue why my comment keeps getting deleted, to the guy above me, try drumming without jeans, aparently I'm not allowed to tell you why.
@@raynerhutton1417 try not wearing jeans. They restrict your movement. Particularly tighter jeans around your calves. It takes extra effort for the muscles to contract and it fatigues you.
@@christosbinos8467 power drumming
I love when drummers make looks easy things that are hard. Congratulations.
2:22 to 2:40 you're actually working harder than what is in the song! That looks brutal! I don't have any double bass drum technique, so maybe it's easier keeping the 16ths going at this point of the cycle. Again, well done. Part of me wishes that this song became something that all drummers who want to learn double bass tech should learn. Just like learning your fav jazz/rock/fusion/metal drummer's licks, Bleed should be something that everyone learns. Hell, I want to play it, but my legs might be in too much pain afterwards. Great work!
the song is actually slow and its not just gunning it at full speed. its a pattern . keeping a robot pace consistant is hard (tick tick tick tick...) but playing something intricate that changes makes more sense and is easier to keep everything including your rhythm straight. I agree with you. I am going to learn this pattern and use it for practice.
I like it when the covers are better than original haha, makes me wonder if some of these guys are in bands haha
This is actually how Thomas plays it live.
This sounds so huge!! Really enjoyable the sound of the plates
Damn man.. this is fuckin tight.
The Man has spoken
Out of every video on youtube that I have ever 'liked', this is by far the most deserving. Absolutely amazing job man.
are your legs supposed to bleed?
Troy Wright; the only living man other than Tomas Haake himself who can play the drums of Meshuggah to perfection. Truely impressive, loving this cover!
This is how you say "not fucking human" in drum language.
Im not a drummer, but I was trying those bass drum exercises he explains at the end with my fingers and its a great rythmic exercises for any musician! . It's really impressive the control he has on his foot to be able to maintain that during the whole song!
The faces you make ( oh shit! I gotta... Ok nope... Yep yep i gotta) very solid and the best meshuggah cover drummer. If Tomas gets sick and needs a backup drummer i'd hope they ask you! Earned another sub from me bro!!! Hail
You are the best drummer I have seen on the net. Wish I had drummer with a quarter of your talent over here
When your legs get restless in class and you start involuntarily bouncing them up and down
Man, this is incredible. You're playing it perfectly
Fuckin crazy, how the feet follow the guitar, and the hands remain in 4/4
wrong. guitar follows the drums
Victor Dimitrov wrong again, the drums follow the beat
Victor Dimitrov the metronome
Bruce Johnson the drummer is the metronome in a band
It's actually quite easy to be honest
:O omg!! praise be to this guy for getting that rhythmically torturous double bass down. BRAVO!!!
My calf muscles hurt just watching this.
I thought the same shit at about 00:55, lmfao!!!
tragicanomaly1 should watch his cover of The Demon's Name is Surveillance. Your calves will never be the same again...
awesome cover and breakdown at the end with drills, learnt something!
Calf muscles have entered the chat.
I recently picked up some of your transcriptions and the double bass lesson really helped with all the meshuggah tracks. thanks for that little bonus at the end of the cover.
Ok what energy drink can make me do this?
I Guess cocaine with tabasco
***** tabasco on anus
Crack
Sulfuric acid
@@seba145 actually, manganese heptoxide gives the best results, you can prepare some by mixing sulphuric acid with some potassium permanganate.
I have checked all of your videos. You're definitely one of my favourite "TH-cam" - Drummers. So tight, dynamic, groovy and powerful. You should have a strong band ! Keep it up!
I feel like this song is the final boss.
I used the same techniques/exercises to learn this song (not fully learned, still patching up the interlude sections) without knowing of this guy's videos. Now that I know of Troy's videos, I have an incredible resource for learning how to play my metal, and introducing such techniques to my own material. Keep on jammin, bro
my leg feels pain
Amazing drum cover and excellent drum lesson too !
Fuck!...look at the technicality, even the ghost hits were on point
Best cover I have seen of this song. Great job!
This is what the mob does to a drum kit when it doesn’t pay.
Wow, what a beating.
Awesome dude! one of the fews out there that actually gets you a clue on how to play!
Hey, I can do the hand part.....
Yeah, so can Jon Bonham.
Great job covering Bleed and nice explanation of the lesson at the end
My feet hurt just by seeing this.
Thank you for making this tutorial. at first I thought it was too difficult but after I learn and practice I find it a bit boring... Im ready for the part 2. Hopefully the bass drum that I order will arrive soon. I have too much practice on my snare and cymbal/clapper already.
after doing this cover this dude was rushed to a nearby hospital for ankle surgery.
he probably wasn't able to stand up for hours.. :D
I think of any drummer actively posting vids to youtube, you have taught me the most about the music I want to play. the list also includes Tim Watterson, Derek Roddy, John Longstreth... so thanks man and keep it up!
Never skip leg day
Thanks a lot for the transcription!! And very well played, amazing! You rock!
WHAT THE FUUUUUUCK?!! HOW?!?!?!?!?!?!?
practice
Yea well, no shit' :D
+RethleZ 😊
Dont not practice
I saw this video like 6 years ago, however I did not understand much from THIS notes, ...but today I am gonna learn this and train, beacuse probably I found the key to learn MESHUGGAH. this will be so cooooooool
Sweet baby jesus
dude you helped me a lot to even start thinking about practicing this song and I have made great progress thanks to you!
