Tomas uses the ghost notes mainly to keep tempo. In a live setting they can't heard or just barely in the quieter moments, but are still pretty useful.
Excellent playthrough. The reason it shines isn't because you added anything different or extra. It shines because it's so clean and tight. You could fill in for Haake.
Easily the best Meshuggah drum covers i've seen. Your feel is perfect. I've watched your album medleys that you've done and MAN those are incredible. I can only imagine how difficult an entire playthrough must be! Bravo, Troy!!
Will we ever see a video of you playing "Cascade" here, Troy?Yes, I know there are live videos of Plini, but anyway)) You did an outstanding work there.
Out-fucking-standing. My favourite song off of sleep and I think one of the best 'classic sounding' Meshuggah songs. This just slams and you nailed it.
Incredible, man! I remember the original medleys and re-listen from time to time. So awesome to see and hear something so technical and impressive being played on what is pretty much the best drum kit money can buy, too. Good shout to get the snare drum with the new kit, lugs are sick!
Nice to see you back, Troy. When I first started YouTubing 14 years ago, you were a go-to channel for me. I'm stoked for you that you opened a music studio for recoding and lessons. Congrats. Hope you're like, the first drummer to post a cover of something from their new album, whenever that is. Happy New Year, brah!
my wife walked in on me watching this.... she asked, "why do you like to watch this stuff", "its like me watching videos of another Phlebotomist at work" ....... ( hence both our professions...musician and phlebotomist) . and my answer was : I do what I love, You do what you need to.... Nearly got divorced. Fully stand by my words. no one ever said, : I gotta go to work the drums
This is by far the best Meshuggah song of the last 15 years. Its safe to say I'm stoked to see you playing this beast of a song. P.S - your Nothing medley is still one of my all time favs, probably watched it 100 times
@@ddrum1090 yep those ones are great, particularly marrow, but this is the only modern Meshuggah song I listened to on repeat when I first heard it. I just think it's classic Meshuggah, sounds like chaosphere kinda.
@@KreatorOfDeath1985 im aware, and I actually feel like that's better shown on tracks like by the ton/ into decay where the tempo is slower and varies more. Haake even said some tracks change by up to 10 bpm from front to back. I agree that it feels heavier, and a lot more genuine too.
lol I wasn't even looking for drum stuff today but I saw this was just posted and...I mean I can't NOT click on a new Wright cover. Damn dude. It's been years and the fluidity of your playing still blows me away. Shame I'm not in AUS, you must make a hell of a teacher.
I'm gonna learn this beat and play it in a jazz jam on the ride and see what they do hahaha fucking love this mate, well done and great sound. You rock!
Amaaazing cover!💪🏼🤩 You being so fit and still so pumped after this song, makes me realise once again that mr Haakes technic is beyond this world.. Perfect start to 2022! Thnx!🥳
You don't just cover Meshuggah songs, you play them with authority.
good way to put it. he looks very comfortable.
Or die. Thems the rules
He plays them like he owns them
@@Ironsvillage but it is not, since he did not have the ability to create it, but to make a cover of it.
"Don't worry, he's just a friend."

Happy New Year!! 🎉🤘🏻
Way to start 2022. Shit was sick. 🤘
Happy New Years
Wooow. Now that's a way to kick start a new year.
Happy New Year!!!
Happy new year indeed! I would love if you could cover Clockworks sometime
So sick! I love your groove
sup Krimh!
@@Chillidog650 Cream soup!
Absolute natural! Makes it look easy
I think it's just a cover, it are says drum cover in title I think
Best thing about Tomas Haake is his snare ghost notes. It's like having tiny bits of delicate beauty sprinkled in with all the brutality.
Tomas uses the ghost notes mainly to keep tempo. In a live setting they can't heard or just barely in the quieter moments, but are still pretty useful.
Thomas Haake ghost notes are the second hand of the clock ticking away our pathetic existences
The undisputed king of Meshuggah covers is back at it again \m/
Straight up and down!!!
Hands down
Excellent playthrough. The reason it shines isn't because you added anything different or extra. It shines because it's so clean and tight. You could fill in for Haake.
I watch this video at least twice a week, the “tightness” in this is mesmerizing
hammering out those eights on the right foots in this song is so satisfying man
2:51 hits so fucking hard, man all that space after such foot galloping is a thing of beauty
HOLY FUCK! didn't think this year would start off this strong!
Easily the best Meshuggah drum covers i've seen. Your feel is perfect. I've watched your album medleys that you've done and MAN those are incredible. I can only imagine how difficult an entire playthrough must be! Bravo, Troy!!
agreed, he's one of the few that really captures that haake feel as close as possible
Have you listened to Eloy Casagrande's cover of Marrow? It's really insane
The sound , the mix, the agression, your the boss. Perfect cover.
Must be nice to have a music teacher who actually does this.
Extremely underrated musician. Wish you were more known. Outstanding performance
Nobody talking about that INCREDIBLE (and very fitting) drum set? Love it
Such a violent friggin player. Them cymbals are getting absolutely friggin whaled on. Love it
Glad you chose the song that’s an entire breakdown practically yessssiiir
My favorite Meshuggah song from my favorite TH-cam drummer. Hell yeah! Flawless job, man, as always.
Dare we say it is beyond flawless? 11/10, 12/10??
@@pacoside1092 I give it 4/4 😉
This is by far one of my favorite Meshuggah songs, just on the groove alone. It forces me to headbang
This was mesmerizing. All the small accents from the left hand were a joy to watch
Hell yeah!! I have forgotten how much I miss Troy Wright's Meshuggah covers in my life! Keep rocking in 2022 Troy! 🤘
He’s got mad respect from not only drummers
He’s a teacher
A positive role model
Like I said in my previous comments
He’s a LEGEND
that fill with the crashes right before the solo is balls out amazing
I swear their drummer is the best heavy metal polyrhythmic drummer there is 🤘
What can you say? Always played with personality, musicality and clarity. Thanks for all the inspiration.
I keep coming back to this
Literally been waiting years, was worth it
This is probably the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in a long time! Jeeeez, you’re freaking great! 🌟
Will we ever see a video of you playing "Cascade" here, Troy?Yes, I know there are live videos of Plini, but anyway))

entire album playthrough would be epic
@@edbramble3997 indeed!
3rd this for an entire album playthrough!
Hooolllyyyyy shit. I thought you would never do another Meshuggah playthrough. This is truly the best present for a new year!
Awesome! Is this the start to a “The Violent Sleep Of Reason” medley? I can’t wait.
Happy new year mate!
I remember him saying that it requires way too much work for these medleys, so I doubt he'll do them ever again.
Wishful thinking 😢
You can always check mine on my channel if you'd like :)
Love to see it bro. Your meshuggah mixes are fantastic. This is wonderful
Meshuggah is so satisfaying to play in drums OMG. Sick cover as always

Can't wait for the Medley !!!
Absolute legend. Great to see you back at the roots!
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad cover in all the years I’ve followed you. Absolute monster 👌🏻 kit sounds mint too.
We need another meshugah’s song !
I’m practicing TRUST ME 😅😂
Man great job. Tough yet groovy song, one of my fav Shug songs ever
This is fucking sick, all you want in a drum cover is here, just perfect
You know you nailed a part when you're comfortable and having fun.
Absolutely wicked. I really like the little extras you've added.... (roll/cymbals into second verse, toms in the middle, roll out to the solo...)
Good to see you with New Meshuggah Covers Troy!! Happy New Year!
So glad you've come back to the thing that matters most. The world needs its Meshuggah medleys

This is Brutiful! It's cool to see all the little tricks in the track clearly, that melt most peoples brains lol.
6 months later I still can't get over how great of a cover this is
Troy's calf game kept strong all these years!!
Looking forward to your AAL cover. This was sick
