I cut out a few of the repetitive parts at the end. It's not as exciting with just the click track. HOWEVER, you can go here to watch my full cover with the actual track: th-cam.com/video/USxw9m_1rJw/w-d-xo.html Metallica will make all the money from the ads on that one. But at least I look/sound cool doing it!
I'm not actually trying to be a jerk but you need to change those tom heads it usually sounds awful like that cuz you never change them for a good while you'll see your Tom's going some way better when you change the heads and he's snare re too
I leant this song by memorizing the guitar riffs, all the drums on this song sound like a guitarist playing drums, right down to the accent timings and downstroke heavy feel, so many dudes hear it wrong.
Doesn’t he do the whole toms with his left hand while playing the high hat with his right? I might be faffing it up, but I think that’s also a Nicko McBrain-ism (which Lars is a fan of). Would like to see more Nicko, maybe something from somewhere in time. I think the old EMC productions would have fun with that. And remember, one kick drum only, no double pedals. Do it right.
The tempo is actually the same here - it's simply notated in half tempo with twice as fast note values. Quarter note at 210 bpm = 8th note at 105 bpm. So, what is typically notated as quarter notes, are notated as 8th notes here.
The only “Double Bass” in this is from measure 22. Everything else is done with one foot. This is true for Lars, Dave Lombardo, Charlie Benente and the Megadeth drummers up to and including Nick Menza.
I never thought drumset woukd ve hard for a Drumline player, I've played Drums for over 2 years and I still cant get anywhere near the level of getting into marching stuff, I never thought the same would apply in reverse
Good morning and this is video number 104 of asking for marchable bass drums, set up in a tenor formation. I.e. benor drums. PS: custom backbar may be needed
EMC- what, in your opinion, is the hardest of the 5 bass drums to play and why? List them in order from easiest to hardest. Any answer would be appreciated
They definitely have a lot of crossover. Double bass helps too when you have to cover half the field backwards in 6 seconds by giving me calf muscles. Being able to keep your upper body still while holding a drum and moving surprisingly helps with double bass too. Balance is a huge part of double bass and nobody talks about it. Watch a lot of drummers curl up their back when they have to do a really fast run on kicks vs pro death metal players like Gene Hoglan who can sit perfectly upright and relaxed while going blazing faster than I could ever hope.
4:25 Okay, granted that I haven’t played in years, but what’s up with that freaky repeat symbol on the top right? I’ve never seen that before. Is that just a drum thing?
Funny enough, i listin to the song so much i could play it almost exactly at normal speed at first and then i went to 125x speed to get that seattle feel.
Pretty sure it’s not 13/16. I’ve seen 21/32 but to be honest it’s 100% by feel. It should feel abrupt and like you skip. Lars gets a lot of crap, but boy did he record some funky and odd stuff that somehow works :)
This is notated in half tempo (105 bpm instead of 210 bpm that's how it's typically notated), so it's basically two measures combined in one. In the "normal" tempo, it would be a measure of 4/4 and a measure of 5/8 that's slightly dragged (making it "21/32", but you should never notate it in that way, because that's horrible notation that makes you overthink it - in reality, it's 5/8 played slightly "late" if that makes sense). 4/4 = 8/8, and 8/8 + 5/8 = 13/8. Now let's halve the tempo again, and it becomes 13/16. This is definitely correct (it's simply notated in a twice as slow tempo with twice as fast note values). The 21/32 explanation overcomplicates a simple thing, and also misunderstands how it's actually felt. The band didn't feel it that way - they felt it as "short-long-long", but the last "long beat" is simply played a bit late. Yes, if you want to calculate it 100% accurately, it is 21/32. But nobody counts it that way, so that's not how it should be notated either.
@@MaggaraMarine 👍 It’s just such an odd thing to play (not a drummer myself, in any proficient sense), but for some reason I have no sense of time and odd time signatures don’t feel odd. The feel I get when playing it on the guitar is that it’s cut off and the next bar starts very abruptly. Maybe the feeling when playing the drums are a bit different. As you say I don’t think the band prog rocked it out and calculated it. They just played :)
I had to manually edit the click track in that entire section. It was somewhere between 13/16 and 7/8 (neither lined up). Mathematically 27/32 is in between those, so maybe it's closest to that. But 13/16 is probably the easiest to understand on the sheet music.
@@EMCproductions The 5/8 fills are all slightly shorter than it should be. Without the band or knowing the song by heart it's hard to deviate from the metronome.
Someone already mentioned that Lars uses a ride on “Until It Sleeps” from load, but he also uses a ride for my personal favorite of the Metallica instrumentals, “Call of Ktulu” from Ride the Lightning. Regarding Master of Puppets, I do not think he uses a ride at all (I don’t think he uses a ride on the whole album for that matter).
Not true - Lars had a ride part on Disposable Heroes and it still was a part of his kit during the Master tours. Later during Ride era he swapped it for a second high hat and somewhere mid-90’s during load/reload era ride returned for the softer songs from those records. The second high hat was then swapped for a second china. And then finally during St Anger the ride was gone but the china stayed. Although he still brings it out occasionally if they play softer songs from load/reload era like until it sleeps or bleeding me.
Leave it to music majors or "professionals" to throw in 3/4 into a 5/4 instead of just letting the phrase go over the bar lines lol. Why two bars of 4/4 when you can 2/4-4/4-2/4 its so simple right? The 13/16 is probably right however.
I cut out a few of the repetitive parts at the end. It's not as exciting with just the click track.

I'd love to see you take an old marching bass drum and turn it into a massive 24+ inch snare.
That's one of the best ideas this comment section has ever had
This is an rdavidr colab if I ever heard one.
@rfx55 this is DEFINITELY an RDavidR joint...
WE NEED THIS
YES!
9:37 that fill is CLEAN 🔥 🔥🔥🔥
YES IT WAS
Next level is to play along with the version that speeds up every time they sing "Master".
Gotta go fast!
I leant this song by memorizing the guitar riffs, all the drums on this song sound like a guitarist playing drums, right down to the accent timings and downstroke heavy feel, so many dudes hear it wrong.
This was amazing! I just learned it on drum set too. Yeah Lars really liked to put the crashes with the snare instead of where it usually would be
Doesn’t he do the whole toms with his left hand while playing the high hat with his right? I might be faffing it up, but I think that’s also a Nicko McBrain-ism (which Lars is a fan of).
Would like to see more Nicko, maybe something from somewhere in time. I think the old EMC productions would have fun with that. And remember, one kick drum only, no double pedals. Do it right.
That's a thrash thing. Snare on the upbeats, crashes on the backbeats.
I just want to say that I’m a huge Metallica fan and bassist and this song is and always will be the GOAT!! 🤘🤘🤘
I love mapex, and I LOVE armory, and that's a great finish, but to me it just screams yacht rock, and exclusively yacht rock.
This is probably your finest drum set work!
Loved it. Your full performance with vocal track was pretty damn good.
Urlich himself can't do the original drum line now, it was very Brilliant!
Great job!!!
yeah ... like he is 60 years old ??
And who cares for a monkey repeating what others created 40 years ago ?
2:29 - No cheating!!
Hell yeah, rock on, Eric! I request Pneuma by Tool next time you do one of these :)
BRO I do the same stick close thing, just a habit from when I used to be in drumline ig.
The only thing missing is getting up during the crash chokes lol
we have the same kit 🤩
He uses the ride on a song on load "until it sleeps" if not others as well
13/16 measures? I just thought Lars was permanently drunk.
nice.
Back with the Mandarins! See you soon in Allentown!!!
Well done mate, beast mode
Keep On Rockin..thanks for sharing..👍🤘😎🙏
Yo, that was gnarly. Good job EMC.
We play a shortened version of MOP for marching band I think it’s at 214BPM or something like that
That sounds brutal
That's really cool but marching 214 bpm would be very brutal
The tempo is actually the same here - it's simply notated in half tempo with twice as fast note values. Quarter note at 210 bpm = 8th note at 105 bpm. So, what is typically notated as quarter notes, are notated as 8th notes here.
that snare sounds so good man what snare is that😭😭
@DrumeoOfficial You should get this Geek into your studio.
This is the first song I learned 😢 it was very difficult
YESSIR! 💚💚🥁🥁💚💚🥁🥁
A song I need to learn on bass. Well time to get to it.
You started learning it since you heard it for the first time which was probably a long time ago :)))
This was fun!

Ah yes, drum set sheet music. Just as Lars and God intended.
Video 1 of asking emc to Try and tune the head you got from the scholastic book
as much as people shit on lars nowadays, he really was on top of his game around the Puppets era. as an amateur metal dummer, great work!
Honestly the cover was great. The only problem was the hi-hat not being opened 😂
Awesome job!
Video 49 of asking for the full Freebird Guitar Solo on the Megatenors
My man learned the entire song in a minute basically.
Do uhhh any tool track but probably Lateralus (Danny Carey the goat fr)
Nice work. You should try St. Anger now...
Drum go boom!
Not too shabby!!! :)
That worked... You're attempt is up there with a reasonable cover band...
YOu should a cover a Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein." That song has both a drum set and a set of timbales.
Great job. I bet you'd run through Physical Education by Animals as Leaders pretty easily.
I never thought drumset woukd ve hard for a Drumline player, I've played Drums for over 2 years and I still cant get anywhere near the level of getting into marching stuff, I never thought the same would apply in reverse
I Like Support Drum Covers !
This is a Nice Job ! 👏🥢
How come you not use double stroke bass pedal? Like the heel toe I think it might be called
🔥🔥🔥
You should recreate Jason Segel’s 32 piece drum set from Freaks and Geeks
Would love to see him learn Beast and the Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold
YES I AGREE I LOVE A7X
I want to see you do either Disasterpieces or Duality by SlipKnoT

I'd love to see some infant annihilator on drums, blasphemian is a fun one
it's too bad all of that shit is programmed, rip to every drummer that's ever tried to learn an IA song note-perfect
This was the one of the first songs I learned to playZ
Yeah, makes total sense that the guy who does marching stuff has incredibly clean singles. Death metal cover when?!?!?!
They definitely have a lot of crossover. Double bass helps too when you have to cover half the field backwards in 6 seconds by giving me calf muscles. Is it bad that I can still hear all of the guitar and lyrics parts and know exactly where he is in the song just from the drums?
4:25
Okay, granted that I haven’t played in years, but what’s up with that freaky repeat symbol on the top right? I’ve never seen that before. Is that just a drum thing?
I guess it’s a different way of writing it
Wow, you are amazing! Which software do you use for sheet music?
Funny enough, i listin to the song so much i could play it almost exactly at normal speed at first and then i went to 125x speed to get that seattle feel.
Hey Eric🐔 dive into Neil Peart
The most favored air drumming by Rush in my era was Tom Sawyer
Bro please look it up

Can you do enter sandman next
You should try and learn something by Tool in 66.6 minutes
It's like an abridged version of master of puppets. Like you skip some of the repetitions at the start of the song, and skip some verses.

Can you play the icarly song?
What metronome app are you using?
You have to miss like every 5th note to make it sound more accurate
It’s actually a 21/32 measure but missing the last note. It’s nothing you can really put onto paper correctly.
you gotta do this with avenged sevenfold
