It took me two solid years , practicing 3 times a week about two hours each practice to get this down properly ,I'm self taught so it was by ear , I'm happy to say it's now in my muscle memory .
This has helped me a lot to understand how to play the guitar parts. Definitely more than a lot of the guitar tutorials did. If you want to play something that's 80% rythmic expression, I suppose it makes sense to ask a drummer.
Great tutorial man thanks a lot! I use heel-toe technique for doubles as well, trying to get used to slide but I prefer heel-toe, and most the videos I see for Bleed people use slide method so was cool to see someone use heel-toe. I like how you have to alter feet for the doubles too, gets both of them working evenly
Thank you for making this tutorial. at first I thought it was too difficult but after I learn and practice I find it a bit boring... Im ready for the part 2. Hopefully the bass drum that I order will arrive soon. I have too much practice on my snare and cymbal/clapper already.
thank you for watching it. Yeah, patterns like this are quiet annoying sometimes, but I see it more like a meditation, then it can be kinda relaxing in a way, to repeat it over and over again...
Guys, please help. How do I develop the speed for something like in 1:33? Just sit and practice in slow tempo and gradually increase it? I've done it so many times. It doesn't get to the speed I need. Or did I just give up at the wrong time and should've pushed myself a bit harder?
@Mrs. Darcy , Yes my way of getting faster was and still is the way of beginning slow and gratually speed up. The Most important thing for your brain ist the understanding of the pattern. so play it extremly slowly until you internalized it fully. than speed it up. Good luck, and have patience, it will take some time.
yeah, it's the same pattern in all instruments, that's kind of the only thing in Meshuggahs music, that all instruments play the same rhythm most of the time...
That snare is wonderful :) Can you, please, share what is it? And the tune eventually. Thanks :) P.S. I'm trying to recreate it with Superior Drummer 3
Well he over complicated that first part just say it's 4 notes on the bass drum with the first two notes being played almost together, while the second two notes are more spaced. then the hi hat plays in 4/4 just 1.2.3.4 and the snare plays on every 3 but he alternates it.
all he says is it two 32nd notes followed by two 16th notes which is correct and as simple as it gets. you cant say two together and 2 spaced, that's just musical gibberish.
@Tom DiMartino I play the ghosts on every " e and a" except "2a" and "3e" to avoid a double stroke around the Backbeat. Maybe at first you try to play just straight 16ths with the feet, to internalize the hand ghost pattern first.
Yeah, that's a good question. As I started learning it, I also thought I would never get it to the original speed, but with a lot of practising almost everything is possible!
You are leading people down a dead end technique. seems a little strange with so many good tutorials already available. This tutorial is really not that great, the kick pattern you are teaching is waaay too complicated, especially when the 5 groupings start. Thomas just plays singles leading with the right foot.
The Meshuggah Bleed Drum Cover you can find here: th-cam.com/video/qexGW0MfpPY/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=HendrikThiesbrummel

Ya I’m currently on my journey trying to play this tune. It feels impossible
That snare is one of the best sounding ones I have heard in a long time
Thank you, it's an old Sonor mahogany
@@hendrikthiesbrummel8478 but his kick is way over compressed or a bad mic /eq sound :S sorry bro but it doesn't feel warm and punchy at the same time
This is by far the most helpful drum lesson I've come across!
Thank you so much, really appreciate it.
Crazy how it sounds wrong till played fast lol
I think my double pass pedal would fall apart if I tried to play this
Try it out slowly and build up the speed, then you get used to it 😉
@@hendrikthiesbrummel8478 I think my heart will end up beating faster than my foot pedals if I tried to play this for more than about 15 seconds.
There goes my foot!

@Soma874 thank you very much, great that it helps, please ask, if you need more help
Very direct and informative. Thank you!
Thank you

Literally don’t even play drums but just wanted to see if someone could explain it, trying to implement it into guitar version timing wise
yeah, it's the same pattern in all instruments, that's kind of the only thing in Meshuggahs music, that all instruments play the same rhythm most of the time...
You killed it ! How rad!
Absolutely AWESOME! Thanks so much!
Great tutorial!! Tnx!!
Hey! My dad has that red Sonor Kit in an 8 peice he’s trying to sell. Candy red just like those! 9ply beechwood. From late 80’s!
I like that snare very much, it's still my favorite one after all these years. So versatile, too.
How is your talent and content this good and you only have 577 subs?
You said it! I immediately subbed after 2min of this video. Up 20 subs since your comment and I hope the growth is exponential.
Starting to practice the beat faster and faster!
Finally someone who explained it properly, thanks Hendrik
Thank you, Daniel
I see a Symphony X t-shirt :)
Nice one.
Yes, still one of my favorite bands.
I didn't know that Peter Sunde, the creator of The Piratebay, played drums!
I lead with right foot and for me I can’t leave the idea that right plays 1-2 4-5 7-8 and left plays quintuplets in-between
Good thing at 4:05 you made sure to show which one is the snare in case the person trying to play Bleed on drums didn't know it hahaha
Is this similar to how Vinnie Paul plays Becoming?
What series is the paiste china on your right ?
That snare is wonderful :) Can you, please, share what is it? And the tune eventually. Thanks :)
P.S. I'm trying to recreate it with Superior Drummer 3
Thank you so much!
Thank you, I hope it helps.
I can play it fine it's just the speed I need to work on
Speed comes automatically when you've internalized the pattern. Just be patient, and work on it constantly
Well he over complicated that first part just say it's 4 notes on the bass drum with the first two notes being played almost together, while the second two notes are more spaced. then the hi hat plays in 4/4 just 1.2.3.4 and the snare plays on every 3 but he alternates it.
Exactly lol it took me forever to get this by ear and its 4 count on double bass he made everything so complicated lol
I'm struggling with this! Maybe this is why..

Me playing with a single bass: 😭
Double peddle? Thats what I use
Interesting you do a left lead on the feet
Yeah, I'm a lefty playing on a "normal" setup, except my ride is on the left side...
my KNEES
Nice shirt!
Symphony X are one of my favorites bands! Awesome on every instrument
@@hendrikthiesbrummel8478 Yeah, love them as well! Hopefully they'll be in Germany again when this damn pandemic is over
Any tips for those ghost strokes in the intro?

this song name would be "horse", because the polyrhythm looks like a horse cavalcade.
I don’t understand the heel toe technique, you’re not using your heels.
Alrighdy 🤘🏻
Merci
@@hendrikthiesbrummel8478 😂
Man i'm still confused
Bro sounds just like Varg Vikernes
Are you actually gonna teach how to play it?
Yes
dont herta me anymore
How can a "slow" beat be so hard my English is not the best
Yeah, that's a good question.
As I started learning it, I also thought I would never get it to the original speed, but with a lot of practising almost everything is possible!
You're doing it all wrong! You wear shoes.
Haha, you got me
I so hate drummers. They are too smart for my dumb guitar

If you think learning to also play into in a different stick/footing to the original isnt extending your skills you are a fool.
В конце столько раз облажался. Зачем учить если сам не можешь ровно и четко сыграть.
People make mistakes man, it's a hard song.
