Personally I've thought for years that Shelley Duvall could have played Maris: Duvall is really thin, really pale, and can certainly play bizarre and/or high-strung characters. Plus I would have loved to see her, Shelley Long and Bebe Neuwirth all together in one scene!

Think about what David Hyde Pierce says in this video a sitcom based on a character that you never see. When he said Fraser goes off the air she’ll probably have her own sitcom. Because you if think about it every episode she wasn’t in was actually an episode that centered around Maris and it did with such fluidity.

How Roz and Niles jibed at each other in the early seasons could have easily been written as comeback remarks and bickering from Niles and Maris, not to mention half the descriptions Niles uses for Maris's absence "can't produce saliva" etc, can easily be attributed to how he initially felt about Roz. Also, it plays well in the episode where Roz charades as Maris being married to Fraiser to make out Niles is with Daphne to get rid of Clive. It would have given proper displays of a woman Fraiser finds friendship in (Roz) and one he couldn't stand (Maris). However, yes, for all the physical descriptions, they are all too beautiful.

Niles and Frasier both married women they felt resembled their mothers in some way. Their mother was a bright sophisticated woman. Maris and Lilith are both " high born" and " cultured" but lacking in other character traits like loyalty or warmth.
I like the Big Bang Theory use this same technique of never seeing Howard Wolowitz’s mother (even though we still get to hear the loud Mrs. Wolowitz in the background).
I always said I wanted to know who came up with the idea to never show Maris, because it's so original and no one ever did it in a show before. Up until the end, we never see her, even when she comes back into their lives after being accused of murdering her lover. Do you remember the energy drink she drinks through the straw that Marta sticks through the hole in the box? And then it's too much so she puts some back? That's friggin hilarious.
It was done a number of times before - the never-seen character - Charlie, in the series Charlie's Angels; Carlton the doorman, in the sitcom Rhoda; Joanie's friend Jenny Piccolo in Happy Days (she's one of the few that eventually was cast and became a real character).

After many a years of watching Fraiser I often thought that maybe the writers of the show had watch or been a fan of Minder a UK series that was around in the early 80ts about a guy called Aurther Daley a dodgy dishonest business man and his Minder Terry McCann. Auther Daley always mentioned his wife as "her indoors" or "her that shall be obeyed" but we the audience never actually saw his wife even though she was a butt of alot of his jokes. Just a thought.

Niles and Frasier both married women they felt resembled their mothers in some way. Their mother was a bright sophisticated woman. Maris and Lilith are both " high born" and " cultured" but lacking in other character traits like loyalty or warmth.
I like the Big Bang Theory use this same technique of never seeing Howard Wolowitz’s mother (even though we still get to hear the loud Mrs. Wolowitz in the background).

I always said I wanted to know who came up with the idea to never show Maris, because it's so original and no one ever did it in a show before. Up until the end, we never see her, even when she comes back into their lives after being accused of murdering her lover. Do you remember the energy drink she drinks through the straw that Marta sticks through the hole in the box? And then it's too much so she puts some back? That's friggin hilarious.
It was done a number of times before - the never-seen character - Charlie, in the series Charlie's Angels; Carlton the doorman, in the sitcom Rhoda; Joanie's friend Jenny Piccolo in Happy Days (she's one of the few that eventually was cast and became a real character).
You didn't watch the video... they did the same thing with Vera, Norm's wife, in Cheers. They never showed what'shisname's mother in Big Bang Theory, either, just heard her voice.

In my mind Maris is about 5 ft to 5 ' 2. She wears a size one, and has long black hair. Her skin is pale white.

My cousin married ''Maris'' and she used to spend holidays drifting between the bedroom and the kitchen claiming to have migraines. We wouldn't see her for entire days and then she'd pop out of the room to eat a single grape and then dissolve back into the shadows.

My favourite description of Maris was when an absolutely terrifying woman went into the coffee shop. She ordered a skinny cappuccino, and then instead of drinking it she just smelt it, and then walked out. But I don't seem to be able to find the clip on TH-cam.

They did it on Cheers with "Vera" and that's where they got the idea. But it was much funnier on Frasier.

It would have been funny if they introduced her in the final episode and she was just this charming and completely normal woman, and the audience realizes that all of the other characters have been either just unfairly bullying her for the entire show, or else sharing an inside joke not shared earlier with the audience at large.

After many a years of watching Fraiser I often thought that maybe the writers of the show had watch or been a fan of Minder a UK series that was around in the early 80ts about a guy called Aurther Daley a dodgy dishonest business man and his Minder Terry McCann. Auther Daley always mentioned his wife as "her indoors" or "her that shall be obeyed" but we the audience never actually saw his wife even though she was a butt of alot of his jokes. Just a thought.
If Maris actually had appeared, I think Calista Flockhart could've pulled it off nicely, since quirky characters seem to be right up her alley (pun intended). ;-)

Other writings says she was the love interest of Satan and Lucifer, who are actually the same being. Other legends about Lilith is that it is generally thought to be related to a class of female demon.
