There's an expression--"the cobbler's children are barefoot". Basically when people have the skills and talent to help others, they often have a hard time helping themselves or those closest to them.

Niles Crane was one of TV’s funniest characters ever and David Hyde Pierce played him to perfection. His timing, delivery, physical comedy, facial expressions, wit and improv skills; he had the complete package. I can think of absolutely nobody that could have played Niles Crane except for David Hyde Pierce.

A few months ago i was drinking wine and laughing my ass off to frasier. I told my friend this and he then asked me, "how old are you? 40?" Im 24 and this is the best sitcom of the 90s/early 00s.
@Aldo Montufar, so am I. I watched the last couple of seasons while it was still airing, but, being so young when it ended, I didn't entirely get some of the jokes. Now watching the episodes back (particularly the early ones that reference Maris and Lilith more) I am often in constant laughter. It was great to see a sitcom that, through brilliant writing, did exactly that - made fun of some quite relatable situations. Also, it showed people that intellectual could be funny, without having to explain every joke. Brilliant.
What a mood. I'm in my early 20s and have always loved Fraiser. It was one of the few "adult" shows my parents let me watch as a child. Never let me watch everyone loves raymond or the nanny but I was allowed to watch fraiser because they argued the jokes were too far beyond a child's brain I'd imagine😅
Yeah the show is amazing! Remember bits of it from childhood, but but was not until I became an adult I could understand and enjoy the storylines and humour

The way Niles could go from ice cold and deadpan with his witty insults to having the most melodramatic nervous breakdown ever in the span of a couple scenes really made him the standout of the show for my two cents, and on this show, that's saying a lot. The core cast of Frasier bounced off of each other and came together to make every joke (as well as every more serious scene) work so flawlessly in a way that has never been done by any show before or since. They're all irreplaceable. That's why I really don't see the point of making a continuation now that John Mahoney is no longer with us. Take away Martin's gruff, straightforward, no-nonsense everyman from the dynamic and you lose so much of what made it so great.

I always felt like part of the reason Frasier had such rotten luck with maintaining long term romance was because he never seemed to date in his age group. As a 40s and then 50s something he was dating sexy 30-something women. Which is all very well and good but he would have related and lasted longer (in my opinion) with a slightly older partner. I wanted him to be happy with someone and stay with someone at the end so bad, or even get back with Lilith but it never happened 😭😢
Grace Haven I felt he was ok with Roz. I'm kinda conflicted because of their friendship but still, great friends sometimes make for great relationships irl.
God, DHP was brilliant with physical comedy. That Valentine’s Day episode where he set the couch on fire left me hysterically laughing and gasping for air the first time I saw it, and not a single word spoken. He reminded me so much of Lucille Ball in “I Love Lucy”, the way she could have you laughing from her antics alone. What a brilliant show.
Frasier was a lucky casting case well done. Kelsey Grammer greatly influenced this. For example, since the series was designed, he insisted that John Mahoney play the role of his father. In fact, he went so far as to say that if John Mahoney didn't accept, he simply wouldn't do the series. Grammer visited Mahoney several times and finally convinced him. Mahoney hesitated to accept because he was acting on Broadway, and accepting Frasier made it difficult for him to move to California and leave the theater. That was the case for Bebe Neuwirth, who was also invited to regularly play the role of Lilith. But she chose to stay on Broadway and just make special appearances. David's case was almost magical. A year or two before Frasier was created, an agent found a photograph of him and was struck by his resemblance to Grammer. "It would be nice to call him in case we ever need a replacement or a brother for Kelsey," she said jokingly. When the creative team was working on designing Frasier, someone remembered that photograph. They decided to call Hyde Pierce. The surprise was to find that this great actor turned out to be a great comedian, with superlative charisma and charm, but also humble, a good partner and a hard worker. A curious fact is that the original idea was to focus the stories more on the radio station (in the manner of Wings or Cheers) and to leave Frasier's personal life in the background. In that scenario, Roz would have had a much more important role, as Frasier's counterpart. But with Hyde Pierce and Mahoney, things changed. Soon, those portentous actors caught a lot of attention. The result was that writers were much more likely to create situations around Martin, Niles, and of course Daphne. The result was a complete team. An enormous merit of Grammer was that he had had enough humility and intelligence to realize that he should not be the center of everything, and he knew how to give place to each of his colleagues. In many chapters, he acted as a troupe for the showcasing of Hyde Pierce. That is not easy. Let's look at the case of Fran Drescher, who had his own Niles, but who did not shine. Another case is that of Jim Belushi, who insisted on always being the only funny one. In short, the success of Frasier (and Hyde Pierce) was due to the conjunction of talents (including producers and writers) and a great job team up.
I loved this show!!! “Niles” & “Frasier” we’re Comic Geniuses together. They complimented each other so well. “Marty” was perfect for the father too. Such a shame his passing.
It wasn't "underrated" when it was originally on the air. It was very popular, had high ratings, and won numerous Emmys. I think it's still popular among those who regularly watch the series over and over and those who have recently discovered or rediscovered how great it is.
I didn’t appreciate this show when it was on. I was just too young to pick up on some of the subtle details that made this show great. I also didn’t understand just how impressive the writers were. The joke that will always stand out to me as the best joke in the entire series, was when Niles said he was writing a piece on a narcissistic opera singer. The title, “mememememememe” My god, I love that joke. And Niles is the star of the show as far as I’m concerned.
I'm 17 and I try to get young people interested in Frasier but they always say it's boring or stupid. And I try to tell them about the amazing ensemble writers and they think I'm crazy for even caring about who the writers are.
soft hearts, electric souls that’s really unfortunate. I’m 30 now, it I was just a kid when Frasier was on NBC. My parents watched it, and I enjoyed Martin and Niles, but thought the show was boring. As I grew up, my feelings on it changed from watching reruns. Then when it got put on Netflix, I dove right in because of the large amount of content. Now I’ve watched and rewatched the entire series 2, maybe 3 times. Sooooo many good episodes. And the writers are phenomenal. Every time I go back through and rewatch episodes, I pick up some subtle nuance that I had never noticed before.
*Frasier is the funniest TV sitcom ever conceived by man.* No other series has ever been more consistently funny over a decade since and by the gods, this still has me in stitches to this day. Which is why I'm baffled that I don't hear people talking more about it. Also, *David Hyde-Pierce as Niles* is one of *the greatest comedy performances* I've ever seen. 'Nuff said.
Thank you for posting these clips..... such a great show!! What’s more everyone in the cast is fantastic!! I’m Australian .... so I know what “in a mood” means!! What it means is that something is happening that affects you and you become overly excited or unhappy or crazy or angry etc. If someone is really grumpy .... you can say “wow you are in a mood today!’ Niles in a mood is ALWAYS totally over the top and hilarious!! Loved it!
"In a mood" isn't really the same as "mood" in this context which basically means someone/something is relatable. I'm glad you're more positive about it though, most of the comments about it just seem upset about grammar.
I love Niles. My mother went to a doctor once who was Niles’ doppelgänger. He even had the same shoes. He was so obsessed with himself I wanted to laugh in his face.
Hands down: best Niles scene is the valentine’s episode. It never ceases to amaze me how one character can have no words for 10 minutes and still be endlessly hilarious.
I always admire Niles for being able to act like a complete lunatic in front of his crush. I get so ashamed of acting emotional even in front of my immediate family I bottle up my insecurities and become an unhealthy block of stone for months before it all explodes out again. Maybe I need to see a therapist...
I was a preteen and a teenager in the 90s, so this show was not on my radar then. I started watching reruns a few years ago. Now I'm hooked on the show. Absolutely hilarious!
I LOVE Niles so much. He’s my favorite character. Fraser gets on my nerves. I love his scared and surprised face... it’s the best. He’s such a sweet heart and I love his love for Daphne too it’s so adorable. ❤️ ❤️ also I had no idea other ppl actually cared out Fraser 😂
6:28 some act of professional swordsmanship there Dr. Niles Crane yet one of the funniest acts of professional swordsmanship to be sure. A surprise, to be sure, but a a welcome one.
People saying this shows underrated, remember it is widely considered the greatest show of all time. Bar none. The most awarded and praised tv show according to the emmys. Its just simply genius. It takes over peoples hearts and you truly love the characters. This is my favorite show of all time, but I wouldn’t say it’s underrated.
It's not remembered like Seinfeld or Friends. Younger generations barely know what Frasier is. It's pretty underrated right now. It was like it won all those awards, and then people forgot.
Niles Crane was a brilliant character! Marty, Frasier, and Niles were the perfect comedic trio! Their personalities meshed in a rare way and have given us some of the best television ever produced. I had grown up watching Cheers, but once Frasier started, Cheers just faded away (for me, anyway. )
And I hear 👂 Sideshow Bob and his younger brother Cecil from *The Simpsons* - both Kelsey Grammar and David Hyde Pierce are absolutely incredible actors!
This is my go to show when I find nothing on hulu, amazon, or Netflix! I have watched the show a gazillion times and never grow tired of it!! Nothing on earth compares to this sitcom.
Love, love, love Frasier. For me it was one of those feel good shows. I try to watch an episode every night before going to bed. I so wish they'd bring it back. Real shame about John Mahoney--and poor Moose too(Eddie the dog).
Yes!! And Kelsey let him without getting jealous and arranging for him to be removed from the show. A true artist knows how to let others shine for the greater good.

The first time I saw the garbage disposal scene I lost it. 🤣😂 Laughed so hard I cried. My fav scene of all time.
@@anng7189 He reacted as we all would too ☺
Good Lord! There’s a bee out there the size of a woodfinch!
Reminds me of the episode where they're at the cabins and he has a suitcase full of bug spray
That episode was pure gold!! DHP barely uttered a word and I laughed until I cried. Absolutely one of the best!!
I like how Kelsey Grammar is able to turn the name "NILES!!!" into four syllables.
I met David Hyde Pierce in Lake George,NY back in the late 90's.Nicest guy.
*finally my favorite show is becoming a meme*
0:44 _Niles, are you all right?_ I feel hot ... and foamy. 😆
Kaelyn Brynn He was a detective, you know!
@@aditibhaskar9368Martin’s and Daphne’s reactions/lines make the whole scene over the top.
DHP is a real gem.
underrated. He is one of the great comedic actors of the last 50 years. And fantastic character actor to boot
He has amovie on netflix.. I dont remember the name...do a search. He is a psycho. Really good!!!
*snrrrk* Some classic Niles moments to be sure. And the piano bit especially is a mood.
A Fraser meme video. Never thought I’d see this in my life.
Niles is the funniest character in the show! I adore him, great actor!
this show is so underrated omg
No, it was praised & got a lot of prices.
I think it's still the #1 sitcom
It was not underrated in the 1990s. It was a huge hit and won many awards. I've watched most episodes several times since then and I still laugh.
I loved this show!!! “Niles” & “Frasier” we’re Comic Geniuses together. They complimented each other so well. “Marty” was perfect for the father too. Such a shame his passing.
The fencing scene and the fire scene are pure, hilarious, completely physical comedy. This show is timeless.
I've watched this series over 70 times on Netflix I actually have episodes downloaded for plane trips during the season
How Niles walks into fraisers apartment is how I walk into the therapist office
This show is underrated. I loved it so much, it never failed to make me laugh or cry
It wasn't "underrated" when it was originally on the air. It was very popular, had high ratings, and won numerous Emmys.
I think it's still popular among those who regularly watch the series over and over and those who have recently discovered or rediscovered how great it is.
Finally some appreciation for art
My all time favorite show. I watch it every night for 3 hours. Can't get enough!
The first clip of how Frasier called out Niles from the bathroom....lmao
I didn’t appreciate this show when it was on. I was just too young to pick up on some of the subtle details that made this show great. I also didn’t understand just how impressive the writers were.
The joke that will always stand out to me as the best joke in the entire series, was when Niles said he was writing a piece on a narcissistic opera singer. The title, “mememememememe”
My god, I love that joke.
As I grew up, my feelings on it
changed from watching reruns. Then when it got put on Netflix, I dove right in because of the large amount of content. Now I’ve watched and rewatched the entire series 2, maybe 3 times. Sooooo many good episodes. And the writers are phenomenal. Every time I go
back through and rewatch episodes, I pick up some subtle nuance that I had never noticed before.
I'm old enough to remember when it was still on TV... I had a crush on Niles for the longest time
Literally the best show ever written 💕
Niles was the funniest character on that program. David Hyde Pierce is an excellent physical comedic actor!
.
*Frasier is the funniest TV sitcom ever conceived by man.*
No other series has ever been more consistently funny over a decade since and by the gods, this still has me in stitches to this day.
Which is why I'm baffled that I don't hear people talking more about it.
Also, *David Hyde-Pierce as Niles* is one of *the greatest comedy performances* I've ever seen.
'Nuff said.
DoctorInk20 Thank you for speaking the truth
@@dysenteryworld I say it how it is. 😁 No prob.
@@CraftsmanOfAwsomenes why does being a "mood" mean someone is relatable. Doesn't make any sense
Who else misses this show?
I love Niles. My mother went to a doctor once who was Niles’ doppelgänger. He even had the same shoes. He was so obsessed with himself I wanted to laugh in his face.
That's pretty much Niles to a T
I’ve started watching Frasier on tv with all the stress and anxiety in the world. For me this is the most brilliant and hilarious TV show ever made.
David Hyde Pierce's comic timing is absolute genius!, I could watch him forever
The physical comedy is great!
He is such a funny man, fell in love with this show, still watch all repeats
Hands down: best Niles scene is the valentine’s episode. It never ceases to amaze me how one character can have no words for 10 minutes and still be endlessly hilarious.
Niles has always been my favorite!! So funny & lovable
Niles is my favorite character!! ❤️
I always admire Niles for being able to act like a complete lunatic in front of his crush. I get so ashamed of acting emotional even in front of my immediate family I bottle up my insecurities and become an unhealthy block of stone for months before it all explodes out again. Maybe I need to see a therapist...
I miss this show so much.......
That second clip was so sweet, how Frasier and Martin were just automatically there for Niles :)
anyone watching Frasier in 2024?😭
Me
I was a preteen and a teenager in the 90s, so this show was not on my radar then. I started watching reruns a few years ago. Now I'm hooked on the show. Absolutely hilarious!
Greatest show of all time...never watched it growing up but I fell in love with it,on the last season right now. I dont want it to end
Forever thankful for my mom. She introduced me to this show when I was young, still watch it and one of my favorites. ♥️
It was like it won all those awards, and then people forgot.
soft hearts, electric souls
Seinfeld is still great though
@@dysenteryworldit's not very accessible to a really young audience, it's too smart 😂
This show is a major comfort show for me, Niles is mostly the cause for that
My all time favorite show!
Niles Crane was a brilliant character! Marty, Frasier, and Niles were the perfect comedic trio! Their personalities meshed in a rare way and have given us some of the best television ever produced. I had grown up watching Cheers, but once Frasier started, Cheers just faded away (for me, anyway. )
All I can hear is Stink Pete from Toy Story and the stick character in A Bugs Life.
And I hear 👂 Sideshow Bob and his younger brother Cecil from *The Simpsons* - both Kelsey Grammar and David Hyde Pierce are absolutely incredible actors!
@@brittanyc.4540 John Mahoney played Dr. Bob on The Simpsons too.
This show is so underrated. I watch it every week and it is probably the best sitcom ever
AHHH I LOVE THIS SHOW AND YES WE LOVE NILESSS
I'm glad the younger generation is finding this show. Such a classic ☺️
I love this show. It's my absolute favorite
This is my go to show when I find nothing on hulu, amazon, or Netflix! I have watched the show a gazillion times and never grow tired of it!! Nothing on earth compares to this sitcom.
david hyde pierce was really good at physical comedy. loved the contrast of the show's characters, everyone being believable.
I never hear anyone talk about this show and it stressed me out because this is one of my favourite shows and it's so underrated
5:20, One of the most hilarious scenes in TV history!
I agree! I've just sat and watched it at last 3 times and literally laugh out loud each time.
That is one of my favorites and 2nd one is 2:46. I could watch them a hundred times and still laugh.
One of my favorite scream/laugh television moments of all time 🤣🤣😬
Love, love, love Frasier. For me it was one of those feel good shows. I try to watch an episode every night before going to bed. I so wish they'd bring it back. Real shame about John Mahoney--and poor Moose too(Eddie the dog).
It may have been Kelsey Grammer’s show in name, but David Hyde Pierce stole every scene he was in.
Yes!! And Kelsey let him without getting jealous and arranging for him to be removed from the show. A true artist knows how to let others shine for the greater good.
Niles is that squirrel from Ice Age, but with way more attitude 😂
Oh my God :D
Just superb....love them all
But a little special ♥️ for Niles.
