like your videos but i have to say being a former army mechanic on Apache helicopters the lockwire work would never have passed our QC check. you have it basically attached..yes..but it should be wrapped over the top and coming down to the right side of the nut and puting slight tension on it in the clockwise direction.
+3pilot I imagine the Tech inspection for the military is slightly more comprehensive than the race track... I will think about this the next time I safety wire something on my bike. Thanks for your comment and your service, brother!
I put exactly 3 quarts in my engine.. I forgot to account for the ~2 ounces that I put into the new filter, so now I have an extra 2 ounces in the engine (total of 3 quarts and 2 ounces). Is that enough to be concerned about? Do I need to drain a couple of ounces of the oil? My CBR manual specifies "approximately 3 quarts."
This may be a stupid question... but if the new CBR calls for 2.9 qt of oil and you're pre-soaking the filter with oil prior to putting it on, do you subtract the amount of oil you put in the filter from the 2.9 qt? Or soak the filter and put 2.9 qt in anyways.?
Before starting STG I was a technician at a Cadillac Dealer for about 20 years. Over time I acquired good feel for torque and do not use a torque wrench for most of the wrenching I do on the bikes. We also have all of our drain plugs and filters safety wired which prevents them from coming loose. IMO you do not need to use a torque wrench on the filter and drain plug. - Van
i changed both oil & filter on my 08 cbr1000rr. I pour in about 3 quart of oil first to make sure i dont over fill it. start the bike and let it idel couple of mins then took it around my neighborhood . the low oil indicator was not on, so i thought i'm ok. turn the bike and check oil lever in an upright position. the oil level is a little above the lower line. so go ahead and fill it up with another 1/2 quart of oil. try to start it but it wont start. it doesnt try to crank or anything. when i push the start button everything sounds normal but wont start.what could be the problem?
Great video as always, just doing an oil change on my cbr1000rr sp 16 model, I see that you are using the 300v witch is good stuff, iv got myself some castrol power 1 racing oil would this be OK for the motorbike as its full synthetic? The sp does be on track alot too...
End of the day there are a lot of good oils out there. I have always gravitated to the 300V over the years and it has really treated me well so I keep using it. Not familiar with that Castrol product but I am sure it's fine as they are a solid outfit. - Van
i always use motul 10w40 (7100) once tried 10w30 (7100) and my clutch was sticking, and downshifting was not smooth. is this motul 10w40 (300v) good for street use? and when should you change this oil? faster than normal oil? I have a 2011 cbr100rr Grtz
With the oil filter mounted like that doesn't the oil drain out of the filter Everytime the motor is turned off therefore causing oil starvation Everytime the motor is started??? If im right what's the point?
Question: I ride my cbr1000rr 1000 miles a year top..should be changing oil at the 12 month time or at 4k as manual specifications? Where to buy magnet oil bolt ? Oil drain
I would change the oil once a season on your bike to be on the safe side. Sometimes sitting is worse than being used. What year is your CBR? Get me that and I will get you a link to the magnetic plug on our site. - Van
Here is a link to the magentic drain bolt for your bike on our site: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/psr-honda-cbr1000rr-04-16-magnetic-oil-drain-bolt/ Think of it as cheap insurance rather than throwing it away. - Van
Hi STG! Do you guys have in stock PSR pre-drilled oil drain bolts with safety wire? On your website I can easily find PSR oil fill caps and regular magnetic oil drain bolts, but can't find PSR drain bolt that you show at 1:43. I'm interested in buying both products for my R1. Thanks!
Mike12r1 - Official Channel - we have another video coming soon for the PSR drain bolt that he shows at the beginning of this video. In looking at the site, you are right, it does not show that it comes with the clip, etc., but Brian states that it does in this video. Here is a link to the right one for your R1: stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=39767 Thanks! ~Aubs
Well that depends on the bike and just how over full the oil is. If you have twice the amount in you will have a mess on your hands. A little over the mark odds are you will lose a tiny bit of power with the excessive oil in the motor. - Van
You would need to pull the drain plug and let a little of the oil drain out. Make sure it is not hot because it will be hard to prevent all of it from coming out. - Van
DUDE! you really REALLY need a microphone on you!
the echo from the garage is horrible!
K&N oil & air filter filter (with Amsoil) FTW! I need to get that oil fill cap and magnetic drain plug. Awesome video as always Brian
Thank you snakerb, they are handy! ~Aubrey

good video, i use Rotella T6 and a Fram Ultra 6607 oil filter. i use an even 3.5 quarts.
Thanks for watching! - Van

My CBR manual specifies "approximately 3 quarts."
+razorbackblood06 Should be alright, but I would check your site-glass/dip-stick to see if there is an excess and if so drain accordingly.

Yes you would subtract that oil from the total amount. - BVan
Why does the owners manual call out torque specs on the drain plug and oil filter but yet he didn’t use a torque wrench at all?
Before starting STG I was a technician at a Cadillac Dealer for about 20 years. Over time I acquired good feel for torque and do not use a torque wrench for most of the wrenching I do on the bikes. Is it necessary to lock any plugs with that safety wire on commuter bike?
IMO no need to safety wire a street bike. - Van
If the oil filter is not changed, how many liters of oil will be added?
I do not have this bike in the shop any longer and never changed the oil without changing the filter. - Van
What is the wire just to the left of the oil filter? my 2017 cbr1000rr appears to be slightly leaking oil from that bolt/wire.
Is that brake cleaner your spraying on?
I have not seen this one is a long time but assume I was using brake cleaner to clean excess oil. You can use that as a degreaser. - Van

I do not feel your problem is related to the oil change. - Van

It will not empty completely, I do this on all oil changes. - Van
what kind of spray you use for clean?
He usually just uses brake cleaner for that type of stuff, works the best. ~Aubrey
thank you Aubrey! continue with the videos!! i like so much your tutorials!
Sportbike Track Gear why is my cbr 1000rr so a quiet after i put a slip on? Is there still a cat in the headers or something?
Thanks
Is it normal for the magnetic piece on the oil drain plug to come out? I just got mines, but I'm not sure if it's suppose to do that.
Why do u fill the filter with oil before u install it ... I just put it on dry then fill the bike with oil ... Run it then top up ?

Sportbike Track Gear Thank you Aubrey!
You're very welcome!
What are the risks with overfilled engingeoil?
Well that depends on the bike and just how over full the oil is. If you have twice the amount in you will have a mess on your hands. A little over the mark odds are you will lose a tiny bit of power with the excessive oil in the motor. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear ok 🙂 thanks for answering. Greatings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Hey,
What oil do you use?
We use Motul 300v in all of our bikes. Here is a link to Motul on our site: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/motul/?sort=bestselling - Van
What do you think of the Honda hp4s synthetic oil? I was deciding between hp4s and the Maxima Pro Plus synthetic.
I am not familiar with the Honda oils to be honest.
Hi man, what's the spray that you used to clean outside the engine after installing the oil filter?
That is just some good old Champion brake cleaner. Thanks for watching!

Sportbike Track Gear ... Isso live in Brazil, how i do to buy?
I have a Honda CBR 1000RR 2008 and i would like to know what oil you take for your Honda
We mostly recommend the Motul 300V!

Put oil in filter
If you are changing the oil you should change the filter as well. - Van
youve never been 170?
The fastest I have ever been GPS verified is 193 (mph) at Daytona last year on my R1.
Thanks for watching!
Hello Brian,
making holes , in beautiful plastic parts of a Honda Motorcycle. A CRIME. u should be sent to prison for 2 weeks.
Fk. I forgot to do this
Shit happens
is there any easy way to drain oil if you overfilled?
You would need to pull the drain plug and let a little of the oil drain out. Make sure it is not hot because it will be hard to prevent all of it from coming out. - Van
