    This video will show you 3 ways to join in the round using Portuguese Style of Knitting. I explain what a pattern means by saying "join being careful to not twist". Then I show you how to simply join, how to join by casting on one extra stitch and how to join using the cross over join.

    Thank you, Andrea!! Great video tutorial! Love this style of knitting, and watching you do it! Hope you are feeling better! !! Suggestion: Knitting stockinette tubes (socks etc) by purling only - i.e. knitting inside out. I don't seem to be able to do it correctly! Thx! DukeofPurl on Ravelry.

    Thank you for the excellent video. When joining in the round by purling the two stitches together, should the beginning of the round marker be placed after (to the left of) the p2tog? I was wondering because the yarn tail is coming out to the right of the join.

      @@oliverbradley4788 I appreciate your comment. I purl 2 together and place marker. I guess it’s a matter of preference. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

    Hi Andrea, I have been searching for information on how to do a chain edge, on every row purl. I just love knitting Portuguese but don't always want the little knobs at the side. I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks from your NEW
    80 plus Portuguese knitter. You make each day little happier throughout this awful Pandemic!

    • @AndreaWongKnits

      Dear Gwen,
      That's is easy: if you want that beautiful chain on the edge of your flat projects, just slip the first stitch as to knit and purl the last one. Be careful to not use any stitch pattern you have going on, so add to extra stitches on your cast on count. I hope it helps!

    Is there something similar for starting a new color in the round so that it doesn’t offset ?

    Thank you so much for this I was just trying my circular knitting in the Portuguese style for the 1st time tonight and I've had to rip it out at least 10 times or more and it seems like there's either holes in it or this last time I had 9 extra stitches and I don't know how that happened it's almost like something's creating increases...but I watched to do the yarn on top for knit and the yarn under for a pearl, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong?? I am using magic loop method.

      October 31-nov 3 in Maryland for knitting boutique. In September I teach in Lancaster, Pa. I am adding my events to my Facebook page Andrea Wong Knits. I just proposed for another 7 events next year. Not sure about any in TN. Do you have one to suggest? A yarn shop?

    Thanks for your great videos on this fascinating technique.
    But one thing I don't get is how you make things of a different size with a circular needle. I understand how this could be done on double pointed needles, but wouldn't your piece always be the same size, the size of the needle, when you use a circular needle?
    What then happens when you do a decrease? All I can see happening is that you are forced to either bunch and bind up horribly or be forced to knit increasingly open.
    Clearly this doesn't happen though, and you can also knit a wide variety of size tubes on one set of needles. What am I missing?
    Thanks!

    • @AndreaWongKnits
      @AndreaWongKnits  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrGoatflakes thank you for contacting me and you kind words. Sure! I will show you how. Let me make sure I understand the question: for example, when you make a hat, you cast on and work circularly. When you start to decrease for the top of the hat, you change to double pointed needles ( or any other way to work small circumferences), right? You do see it how I change?

    • @MrGoatflakes
      @MrGoatflakes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndreaWongKnits ah I see, so when you are knitting in the round on circular needles you are limited to knitting a tube roughly the circumference equal to tip to tip of the needles?
      But then when you want to reduce or increase you can do the increases as you knit them onto DPNs to get a smaller or larger circumference?
      Thanks for you time :)

      @@MrGoatflakes Exactly! I love double pointed needles, but recently a student asked me to show how to use the Flextips needles. I made a short movie about those here and I just love them. Please let me know if this is clear now. Try working on a hat and tell me if you have more questions.

    Andrea is there a reason you purl the first round before you knit in Portuguese style? Thanks for the video. I'm just learning to knit this way and your video is very helpful.

    • @AndreaWongKnits
      @AndreaWongKnits  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Susan Shapiro No Susan, you may knit or purl. Because I like to purl better and my purl stitch has a nice tension, I like to purl the first round no matter what the pattern is going to be, so my stitches and nice and loose on the first round, easier to match the bind off! I hope this helps.

    • @susanjos2315
      @susanjos2315 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Andrea. It's just that a lot of my patterns start with knit 2 purl 2 for few rounds first. I'm such a visual learner and I'm having a hard time with the seeing the knit stitch. The purl is the easy one. Thanks again.

    • @AndreaWongKnits

    When I begin working in the round, I have the “wrong” side of the work facing me. How do I correct this?

    • @AndreaWongKnits
      @AndreaWongKnits  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, this is not necessarily wrong because I work inside out. If you want to go with the knit side facing, work one row in knit stitch and then join. Is that clear?

    • @MrGoatflakes
      @MrGoatflakes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So unlike most other styles of knitting I've heard that purling, particularly purling in the round, is very quick and easy in this style. And it looks it. So I'm guessing you would want to work it this way to take advantage and then simply turn it inside out?
