You made me laugh when you said you’re not Portuguese or Greek 😂 I learned that method from my village in Greece, but the rest of Europe laugh at us when they see us with the thread around our neck 😂😂❤️

Portuguese knitting!!! A God send! I have severe arthritis in my right thumb and carpal tunnel.... I found this way of purling so easy and fast, I also taught myself how to just not turn my work and knit back ,..so I guess I knit to the left then put my yarn in the right hand and knit back, like lefty knitting I'm told. But it keeps me knitting even on days when I can't use my r thumb at all. Everyone should try portuguese purling. I where a necklace with a little clasp to put my yarn in, cause I don't like things tugging on my shirt. Thanks for the video!

It makes me so happy that you’ve found a way to keep knitting! I think it’s so cool that you knit back and forth! ❤️

I knit this way. I think you would like a knitting pin. I made a magnet one by gluing a pendant or circular earing to a heavy duty magnet and hook my yarn into the hook of the earing. It is easier for me to remove and put on. I hope I made sense. :]

Great Idea! I saw some magnet type knitting pins on another knitting channel that demonstrates Portuguese knitting and she has magnetic knitting pins as you just described for sale! I went to buy these round magnets and am going to make my own! 👍

Hi I am glad you found this method. I would also like to add that another way to do Portuguese knitting of the knit stitch is to use your left thumb to flick the yarn to the back as in English or continental style and knit the knits that way. It is also used in Portuguese knitting as that is the way my mother taught me. It is equally easy! Just a flick of the thumb. The yarn automatically comes back to the front. I hope you try it also and I wish I could demonstrate that to you. 💖💖

The Chilean way I was taught by my mum & grandmother is overall most similar to continental style, but I notice that in some ways it’s like this! I cannot follow most TH-cam knitting tutorials because the knit stitch is formed differently than how I was taught 😩

Do you have to reverse patterns when doing Portuguese knitting? Or can I just follow any knitting pattern exact as written?

You would just follow the pattern, but make the stitches as shown in the video. :)

@@donielleshowvaytheknitting165 thank you, I’ve been learning this style of knitting and it suits me being left handed, but I’ve been really confused about following patterns as everything is at the front rather than back, so I thought following patterns exactly wouldn’t work. Glad to know I don’t need to change anything.
