    When I began to do Portuguese knitting, I tried the strand around my neck but that didn’t last for more than a few minutes because I found it annoying and uncomfortable. I then tried the safety pin style pins and they work great but the downsize is that they chewed up my shirts and undershirts. Finally, I tried the magnetic pin and it is fantastic. They work perfectly and will not damage your clothing. I have purchased a number of different artist pins. I really need only one pin but I enjoy changing them and using the different art designs. About 10 years ago I learned to knit Portuguese style from Andrea and since then I use this style 99% of the time. It takes a while to get the hang of the tensioning, but the results and worth the effort. It is definitely more ergonomic, the stitches are more even resulting in a more even fabric without rowing-out. It is perfect for easy and quick ribbing. Andrea is an excellent teacher. She has a book and CD; I recommend you look at her classes on Craftsy. I have used everything she has on offer.

      I use a small carabiner and hook it on my neckline or pocket. I also use a bulldog clip with a paperclip

    after watching the tutorials about Portuguese knitting, I have to confess that I was, and still is, in love with this technique. Once I have gained quite a bit of curiosity, I took the next step and began to practice. Strangely enough, this is so cool and so relaxing that I am absolutely convinced that this technique exceeds my expectations to the fullest. And yes, In the 17 years as a knitter, I can definitely say that I have another knitting technique in my tool bag. Mrs. Wong, I thank you for sharing this knitting technique, and the knitting pins,. with the knitting community. What a treat this is. All the best to you and yours.

Saludos. 👋☺️

      I hope you understand my English. I certainly understood your message and I am thankful you have contacted me. Its a honor to have a knitter friend from Venezuela! Especially creative and independent! So glad you created your own pin and enjoy this style of Knitting. I agree: you can always find a way to solve obstacles and there is solution for everything. Keep up the good work and positive attitude!

    I discovered my binder clips work in place of a pin because I can't afford to buy another jeweled clip pin.

    The only problem I find with the original pin is that the points are not sharp enough. I'm pretty sure that is why we end up with holes in our shirts. But, the original pin is my favorite. Barbara

    • @AndreaWongKnits
      @AndreaWongKnits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally agree! I still have some that belonged to my mother and the point is so sharp that does not leave holes on my shirt. You can get hurt if you are not careful (which I did many times), but the pins today are not made the same way...I sound like my grandma...

    Hi Andrea, I just order a magnetic pin on your Etsy page and have a follow-up question. In the pin'd description you talk about how it can also be used to help crochet tensioning. Could you show how that would work? Thank you.
    Claudia

    • @AndreaWongKnits
      @AndreaWongKnits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, Claudia, great idea! I recognized your name in the order. Thank you!
      I use it for bead crochet. Do you have my class on Knit Starts? I show a picture of a Portuguese woman crocheting with the pin. The idea you already have it, it's the same as knitting, but I will come up with a demonstration/class.

      Andrea Wong Knits thanks Andrea and yes, I also enjoy crocheting although my hand hold the working yarn tends to tense up from keeping tension so I’m hoping your pin will help with that 😀

    • @AndreaWongKnits
      @AndreaWongKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, Sylvia, you can use these necklaces to help you anyway you want. They add tension to the yarn if you keep control through your fingers.
