- Apparently GoPro 12 is only a software update but the results of my test shows massive quality improvement in majority of scenarios. Let me know what do you think? Which one looks the best to your eye?

GoPro 11 users can install GoPro Labs and set NR01=50 and optionally increase the bitrate with BTR=150 to match or exceed the shadow detail in the GoPro 12. The mushy shadows are due to overzealous compression. Nice comparison, very interesting!
Thank you for the very informative post. I’m sure this will help many users to fix the blurry shadows. I never used GoPro Labs. Can you use it on new cameras without voiding a warranty?
@@MDrives Yes you can use it without voiding your warranty. GoPro Labs is official firmware from GoPro themselves, and installing it will not void your warranty.
Can You do that with the gopro 8 ?

Saving up for the hdr 12 that actually did it for me, the colors and details are crisp clean, The others before it were good as well.
I think it makes sense to go with 12 especially with discount
Excellent video! Not everyone with a GoPro is throwing themselves off cliffs or out of planes! I use my GoPro 10 inside with LED lighting. At first I was sold on the GoPro 12, until you went inside & then I could see hardly any difference, in fact the GoPro 10 looked brighter. Also I use mine for indoors interviews with humans & I am curious if the GoPro 12 will be harsh on peoples' skin, as the GoPro 10 is quite flattering, although in some cases can look a little "Waxy".
I'll stick with my Gopro 10 for a while more. While the differences are getting bigger, i'd rather wait for some impressive new features for 14-15.
I’m hoping next one will introduce a new big sensor. Otherwise GoPro will slowly die

5:05 this more details in hero 12 ithan hero 11 s because they reduce noise reduction which you can do it in hero 11 with gopro lab (I like to set 1-50%). 7:59 expesialy here if you set hero 11 gopro lab NR01 to 50 image will be very similar.

1:01 In this case you have to look at the highlights, not the shadows. You can see that the highlights are preserved much better in the HDR clip.

i own the 10 and the first go pro from 2014 i'm going to stick with them for the moment honestly there is no big difference to get the 12 or the 11 if you have the 10 for the moment i'll wait for the 13 next year
10 is still a good camera. I’m tempted to move to Ace Pro
Stabilisation does not work with HDR so I will stick to my gopro 9. I use Maxlens mod, does old work with 12 or you are forced to buy version 2.0?

HERO12 on 4K 60fps 8:7 HDR does not support Autoboost. Only 5.3K 30fps 16:9 HDR supports it.
It's more to do with the colour profile I think.
It's all the same camera , especially the hero 11.
The hardware mainly is the same. It’s amazing what you can do with more clever software.
@@MDrives It must be possible to improve the colour science and tone mapping of the Hero 10 also.

Yes, there is.
To see HDR you need a screen that can reproduce this format?
Not really. It’s more about more dynamic range being packed into SDR

I feel like the 11 is better than the 10 but the 12 and 13 aren’t much better than the 11
12 looks very hdr like which results in a lot of noise in shades. 11 was more natural.
