Expectations were high before the release of the GoPro Hero 12. In my last video, the Action 4 and Hero 11 were neck and neck in comparisons. But with the new Hero 12 release, I believe DJI Action 4 is now looking at GoPro in their rear view mirror. DJI's constant progression may make it too difficult for GoPro to maintain moving forward. While the GoPro name will always be synonymous with action cameras, DJI's pace of innovation and execution has put the Action 4 ahead of the game.

I have always owned GoPros but this year I switched to the DJI Action 4. It’s a great action camera! Thanks for your great comparison of these cameras!
Same here! I always made myself suffer with GoPros INSANELY UNRELIABLE cameras thinking they were the "Best".. Boy am I glad to own a DJI action 4 now.. Just like their drones they have ROCK STEADY Reliability and are SO much simpler to use.. Now instead of cussing and fighting with my camera I just enjoy actually USING it!
Everything about GoPro the company, and their products is a huge turnoff for me. I have the Osmo Action 1, and have had ZERO problems with it. The UI, picture quality, and performance easily beats anything GoPro makes, or made. If I need another camera, I will buy the Osmo Action 4!! Thanks to your excellent reviews, I made the decision to buy the OA1!!😎👍
Just discovered your Channel at a time when I was wondering if upgrading to Hero 12 from 9 was the right choice, but having had great experience with DJI including the Avata drone and wireless mic system you used in your video, I'm so glad I watched your informative video. Great comparison. Low-light is big for me with my filming tending to take place early in the day (before full sun). Thank you for your work on this video and overall recommendation from your personal experience - backed up with reasons why.
Best thing I ever did you not replace my seized/broken 2 week old hero 10. Instead picked up the dji action 3. It hasn't missed a beat since I set it up!
I just spent 3 weeks in Thailand riding motorcycles all over the country. I was running a GoPro 10 and the Action 3 so while not a perfect comparison, the GP10 is still similar to the GP12. One of the big differences I found was transferring the video off the cameras. The DJI Mimo app transfers the videos directly into my camera roll while the GoPro Quik app has an extra step. This extra step also causes the GoPro to bloat the storage usage. The DJI MIMO app is also smarter and doesn’t cause you to have duplicates of your videos in your camera roll. Just another user experience benefit the DJI has over the GoPro.
Thanks for sharing that info.
This is EXACTLY why my next action camera is going to be DJI. GoPro is too busy trying the screw its users over by holding back on features and tech. The only reason I don’t have a DJI camera is because they weren’t out when I got my last GoPro.
You don’t get full resolution doing it that way though. You need to physically plug the hardware in to get full resolution
That’s true but I personally like the quick app especially editing the video.
Did your Go Pro overheat much on the motorbike there?
Thanks very much Aldryn! Great job yet again. I really appreciate all the work you put in to these SUPERB videos!
Just want to let you know I bought the Action 4 because of your recent videos. Now it's your fault that I already have high interest in drones haha. Oh God help me lol
Bro how is your camera??
@@Traveltoexplore675 no bugs or errors so far. Still amazed that it was a great purchase.
Pocket 3 is going to be good
@@markrobles5541 I have also bought it
😂😂😂
The fact that GoPro completely removed GPS is a dealbreaker for me. Maybe they add it in the future with a remote as DJI did. Maybe something to test with the Action 4? How accurate the GPS is with the remote? 👍
Awesome review and comparison. Really enjoy your videos!
I wanted to upgrade to the GoPro 12 as soon as they contacted me to let me know it was available. But, after watching a few review video on here, and the camera's specs, I think the DJI action 4 out specs GoPro now, and I will probably go for this now instead. Nice review video as always !
Nice video. Have questions... Is there a way to configure the DJI to stop recording and turn off after 30sec,1min,5min...(as the GoPro) Also, when you plug a usb-c to 3.5 mic adapter, do you still ear the sound out of the camera speaker when you turn off ? And finally is the record button still hard to press as the version 3 ?
Thank you for your excellent comparison ;-)
Such a great breakdown! I have the GP12 and just bought the Osmo 4 so looking forward to using them both..
I did a lot of reserches (understand: "I watched a lot of YT videos... 😂😂😂) and I opted for the DJI Action 4 (since I own multiple DJI devices and that I'm really satisfied with there products and service) and I don't regret it at all. Works very well.
Thanks for your work dude! They are very well made! Have a nice one! 😊
Thanks for posting. Very valuable. Made up my mind. Going for the dji. Thanks again!
Great job! Best comparison I've seen on these two action cameras!
Thanks for sharing. With the Ulanzi magnetic adapter on GoPro, do you think GoPro can keep up with DJI Action 4 when talking about switching between different use cases?
I just acquired a DJI Action 4. Before I had the DJI 2. And I was using a lot timelapse and in the previous one, it was possible to save the individual file and this option is not more possible in the DJI4... I hope it will be an update coming with this possibility
Love your videos 🙂👍
I bought the Action 4 and LOVE IT 🤩🤩
It's really detailed and informative, much appreciated. I've just ordered the Action 4 so I'm sold.
Great reviews!! THNX
Didn't know you were a San Diego guy! I recognized all your locations. Thanks for the video!
Well done, that was the best video comparison between the two cameras.
Liked the video, it was more than just specs. Real world use cases and allowed me to determine that the Action 4 would be a better camera for me. Thanks
Excellent review and helped me determine which camera I'm going for, been let down in the past with gopro fails so that along with your review has sealed the deal for me DJI its gonna be 👍
Thanks for this. I've mainly been using 2 Gopro 9s to capture my ball games. For a camera that I wanted to use to record 2 hours straight it has been very unreliable and has a convoluted file naming system that that all the clips become out of sequence when adding to my editing system. How does the DJI file structuring work? Can it work with an external battery source? Previewing from phone simple to connect? Thanks again.
Great video comparison, I have the DJI Mini 3 Pro, so would most likely buy the Action 4 and Mic to keep all the same system
I have the Go Pro 10 and want to add another action camera. Thinking about going with the action 4 for the low light and reliability. What do you think?
So something I’ve been struggling to find information on is whether or not the action 3 and action 4 can mark clips while your recording like the GoPros so that you know where the important stuff is once you view the clips on the app. Does anyone know?
Hello, I am considering a new action cam for use when riding dirt bikes. I enjoyed your video, but a concerns of mine I haven't found addressed in any videos is the ability to determine if the camera is recording when mounted on a helmet. Most motocross helmets drastically reduce noise levels, so it can be hard to hear the beeps of the action cam to determine if you started or stopped recording. Years ago, I tried buying a GoPro alternative, and could not hear the beeps at all. You have to ask someone else to look at your camera and tell you if it is even on. So if you could list decibel level comparisons, note any other options like say they include some kind of haptic feedback, that would be awesome. Listing other protective covers someone could use to mitigate any damage (e.g., hitting brush, branches, other bikes throwing dirt, rocks, gravel, etc.).
I've always had gopro and really only use on holiday underwater filming fish corals etc. Which one from these 2 would be better for me.
Great comparison. Thx!
I enjoyed your professional review, which camera can take a photo while shooting a vedio...!
on 9:47, I noticed that you attached some sort of Duct Tape / Abrasive Paper? onto your Osmo mini Tripod? Is that so? For better Grip?
So in the loop setting for 5 or 20 minutes. It will keep recording over & over the same 5 or 20 minute segment without filling the card?
Just subscribed your channel. Thanks for the very detailed comparison of both camera!
Awesome, thank you!
Great video! Thank you for helping me make my decision. Question: what is that tiny tripod you have the DJI Action 4 mounted to? I can't find a little tripod on the Action 4 DJI accessories page.
Thanks. The tripod was an old accessory from Dji that was part of another extension stick. They don’t sell it.
Bummer, but thanks for letting me know!
Great review, thanks!
Nice video. At timestamp 19:09 you mention low light is better on action 4, but on my display I'm watching this on, a C2 42" OLED, the GoPro12 looks better? I'm weighing purchasing one of these cameras for videos to film in home theaters, and low light is important to me.
At timestamp 01:58 the GoPro12 is picking up extra color -- purple -- that isn't present on the Action 4?
@FlytPath you can go through the (saved) video/photo settings if you press mode+power buttons at the same time. then just navigate with mode button and ok with the power button. its still not as good as a front-touchscreen but you can do „something“ so you dont need to remount your gopro all the time, like you told us in the video.
Yes I mentioned that in my video. Like i said GoPro has that option, it’s just not as accessible as the action 4 dedicated button
Both these cameras seem to be full featured and take great video. Great comparison, you really covered almost everything in this video. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. The big con with the Hero 12 is you have to buy a pricey media mod to get great audio with it. And the Action 4 accepts high quality Mic's through its USB-C port. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Ron.
true but then if youŕe doing all day filming you cant have it plugged into a external battery at all. Which can be a deal breaker for those people that do extensive shooting in one day.
@@craigshandworld Advanture combo ile 3 tane pil geliyor.Bence bu makul bir anlaşma.
@@craigshandworld which ones need to plugged external battery
@@craigshandworld well now they released the mic 2 which connects wirelessly with the camera so you can have a good mic, move around and keep it plugged to a power bank
I just bought Action 4 last week. It's a nice tiny camera and I like it better than my Pocket 2. I just love everything from DJI.
great review, thanks mate
Thank you for a great video! After watching this, I decided to go with the DJI Action 4 ! You now have a new subscriber. Please keep up the great work.
Awesome, thank you!
Can you connect gopro 12 blue tooth to a sena head set and if it does the sound would be amazing.
Appreciate the video. I have a GoPro Hero 11 but the screen flickering is unbearable. GoPro recommended I buy a new one since it is out of warranty and experiencing a manufacturing defect so with that response I was researching the OSMO Action 4. Appreciate the information in your video.
How about using the cams for WEBCAM with usb? Are they good for this use or do they overheat?
im a motovlogger i settings do you use when i takes to handled or vlogging? wide of ultra wide?
Thank you. Grate comparison
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve been subscribed for years to your channel. I just started researching this topic and found your review the most helpful. However you mentioned that the GoPro 12 eliminated GPS but you didn’t say if the DJI has GPS
Thanks for your long time support. Yes Dji has gps if u connect it to their remote control.
Hi, what are those two mini tripods? Thanks.
Excellent video, thank you! I'm debating whether I was the Osmo Action 4 or the Osmo Pocket 3 creator. I'm looking to mount in my car and on my packback/chest for hiking but also as a camera that can be used for logging. What I like about the Osmo Pocket 3 is the gimbal and it's ability to track but I'm not sure how well it would do on a suction cup in my car. The Osmo Action 4 seems to be better suited for car mount and or biking. Thoughts anyone?
It is good to go with Action 4.
@@Manzoo I ended up getting both for slightly different reasons.
I have purchased both cameras - the mic that comes with the Pocket 3 Creator Package also works with the Action 4, wirelessly. The low light capability of the Pocket 3 will blow you away. Far better than any other small camera. The 1" sensor makes a load of difference in video quality.
One thing that might be worth a mention is that if you were moving your GoPro from a chest harness to a helmet mount to a handlebar mount (and even back to a hand grip, like the Jaws or 3-Way 2.0), you wouldn't actually use the GoPro thumbscrew and fingers. The chest harness, helmet mount, and handlebar mounts all incorporate the GoPro quick release buckle system. It would likely be more useful to compare the DJI Action's quick release magnetic mount to this GoPro quick release buckle mount, NOT to the fixed fingers and thumbscrew mount.
Certainly, moving the GoPro from mount to mount by unscrewing the thumb screw and screwing it back in is a lot slower and more fiddly than the Action's magnetic quick release. But, as I said, you wouldn't be using the thumb screw in those situations anyway. You'd be using the GoPro's quick release system.
I suspect that the Action's magnetic quick release would still be faster than using the GoPro's quick release. However, my sense is that the GoPro's buckle system is considerably more reliable and stable. It also has the advantage of holding the GoPro lower, which might be an advantage for things like a helmet mount. The Action's magnetic mount raises the camera quite a bit higher, and that would place the camera much farther away from the helmet - sticking it out to the side. The GoPro's system keeps the camera much more flush with the helmet's surface. Also, the Action's magnetic quick release can only be attached in one direction. The camera can only face one way. The GoPro's quick release option allows the camera to be attached facing in either direction. It makes no difference which way you insert it.
I think there are advantages and disadvantages to both quick release systems. One or the other might be preferable depending on how you use your cameras. But it should be noted that the GoPro's quick release system exists and it comes included with every GoPro camera. It's built into the GoPro accessory ecosystem.
Great info thanks for sharing
Spoken like a true GoPro fanboy 😅.
Excellent info 💪🏻
does the DJI also overheat or freeze ?
I would love to hear what specifically is better on the GoPro for Photos, because I am interested in using this for photos of family outings as well. Thanks!
Higher megapixels and it has some fun creative modes like built in.
Megapixels is only part of the story. Sensor size is more important. The Action 4 wins out.
@@FlytPath
Does the Osmo have a Scheduled Capture feature like GoPro?
Is it possible to connect bluetooth mics to the DJI as well?
compression of data??? how big is the file size on each recorded @ the same frame rate / settings
So the mode gopro 12 calls full is in 8.7 ? and thats when you can easily edit the footage to be either wide or vertical right? It looks like action 4 does not have this and you still need to turn the camera sideways to shoot? Is this true?
Same question. Did you find the answer?
at 17:00 I would definitely use an angled USB-C to USB-C connector and attach the transceiver to the DJI tripod or stick
Thinking of selling my gopro and moving all over to dji. I have the mini 2 drone, just bought osmo pocket 3. Now why doesnt osmo have the same mount as the action 4?
Great review. One point I would make having owned 7 GOPROs, regardless of what you think of DJI/Insta (main competitors) the problem is this: GOPRO has experienced a huge shift in their customer service standards. Previously, as a subscriber they would honor the warranty and fix/replace. Currently, I have a GOPRO 10 that has experienced multiple bouts of failures resulting in complete data loss. I am still a subscriber and they have not fixed my issue, despite HOURS of phone calls to off shore customer service reps, nor responded to ANY emails I have sent. I am so disappointed with their customer service and the fact that they didn't honor the replacement standards they offer members.
Great comparison!
What small tripod is he using in this video for the action 4??????
Hm... Is it only on my screen that in almost all comparison videos the picture on the DJI twitches? It is especially noticeable when looking at the background.
Happy with DJI 3 and Smallrig micro okay
Great comparison video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Looking at the 12 and dji, it looks like the dji has better colors from their log than gopro. Also, any experience using those magnetic mounts externally on a car? Curious how fast they can stand.
I challenge anyone who can yank the Action 4 from the magnetic mount without first pressing the release catches on the mount. If you can do that without damaging the Action 4 or the mount than I'll gladly give you mine. That's how confident I am on the mount.
@@user-bw5pn4qv9ithis is making me lean towards the A4 more 😅 what are your thoughts on the A3 is it still solid if you put it against the GoPro 11
@@xxsilver_gamingxx389 Sorry I don't have the A3. I mounted my A4 on a "Neewer Super Clamp" clamped onto my bike handle bar and it was rock solid even when I rode over cobbled stones and tree roots. The magnetic mount is the best thing since sliced bread. I can see that soon it will be used everywhere.
@@user-bw5pn4qv9i very nice! The only thing I’m worried about if I buy the A3 is if it comes with focus issues, but I’ve heard it should be good now?
Does the action 4 do loops recordings same way go pro does? Where I can set it up for 20 minute loops so it records over the same 20 minutes continuously unless I hit stop. Then it will save that recording & start a new 20min loop? I want a camera for filming my kayak fishing catches & pics. I'm be in low light situations about 1/3rd of time.
Yes it does. You can set a duration of Max, 5min, 20min and 1 hr. I presume 'Max' means when your micro SD card is full but there were reports that the camera will stop recording when your card is full in the 'Max' setting i.e. it will not overwrite the existing file. Apparently DJI are looking into this.
Does DJI action 4 coms with unlimited cloud storage like GoPro does?
Great comparison as always bro!
Appreciate it!
which one is better in dark and low light?
For Video Low Light which one is better?
Does the DJI have a removable lens?
What are the DJI Action 4 shutter, ISO & EV options?
Yes removable
What is the tripod used for DJI 4? :)
How strong is the magnet? If i mount it to , let say motorcycle helmet, it would fly off under high speed? 😅
The magnet is not as strong as that and besides I would recommend you to put a mounting on you helmet
I just got the gopro 12, I'm moving to the Phillipines in May and am going to use it for snorkeling and sightseeing.
I only use DJI stuff. I just upgraded to DJ1 Action 4. I would say a good accurate review. I stay faithful to the DJI because It's not only a great piece, but I use DJI drones, DJI mics, and DJI Gimble, and I like everything matching.
Do we have light painting on Action 4
THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE COMPARISON OF THESE TWO Great Cameras! Perfekt'! Thanks
Appreciate that
Great video!
I bought the action 4 before watching your video. Your video made my decision more confident. Thank you for the reassurance!
Hi, May I ask Is it advisable to turn ON airplane mode when flying drone using android phone ?
Yes
I was already leaning towards the DJI, now I am positive that's the one for me - thanks for the great video!!!
Great! Now I'm planning to buy Go Pro 11 coz not only it record sharp 4k video but also it could take great picture.
I'm looking to ditch my GoPro 10 for the Osmo because of ALL of the GoPro's v8-12 overheating issues making it totally unreliable...and you're making this easy! I pretty much don't have to sacrifice anything for the Osmo, except mount adapters and new battery sets. While you don't mention overheating at all, other videos show a HUGE difference where the Osmo simply doesn't overheat at all and the GoPro ALWAYS overheats under average room conditions, so again, thank you!!!
I have a GoPro 11 and while on a tour in a motorhome it kept overheating after about 30 to 40 minutes max. I also have DJI pocket mini 2 which is a brilliant little camera. Because of the mini 2 I am looking at going over to the DJI Action camera 4.
I still love using a gopro but just the fact that the changes have been so minimal since the Hero 9 is just very disappointing. I will be trying out the Action 4 this time and the fact that it has better low light capabilities is a W
Thank you for making this video!!😉
I love my DJI gear and this is a great camera from built, hardware and functionality. I use them to help produce boating safety videos. Unfortunately there’s a flaw that also existed in the Action 3. Engine vibrations affect the horizon leveling when rigged directly to a boat and other motor vehicles. It has difficulty maintaining a level horizon, I believe the gyroscopes just don’t play well with the harmonics. That’s the one thing I find the GoPro does better, it maintains a level horizon when exposed to engine vibration. Unfortunately the GoPro dies in the Florida heat!
can't wait for sub-$200 deal of Action4 on black friday!
Is it really going to be around $200 😮
hi which gopro or DJI Osmo Action 4 has the best battery life
Action 4
seeing so many moving to dji
Can you charge the Action 4 while also using an external mic?
no
I think it's finally time to upgrade from my Hero 4. I'm going with the DJI.
Is Hollyland-Lark C1 compatible?
Do these 2 cameras have optical zoom? I want to buy an iPhone 15 Pro Max instead.
Digital zoom
if you used a better wireless mic with the gopro would the quality of sound be improved just the like the osmo action?
Correct. But I would need to add an expensive adapter just to make it work.
@@FlytPath interesting thanks a lot, I think a lot of the GoPro benefits revolve around that max lense and the editing tools, hard choice but I think GoPro comes out onto for me with that wide angle for fishing and POV explorations. Dji seems great for lowlight and great point and shoot quality
@@jakeseveryday there’s not one camera for all. Use cases really determine the best option.
