I cook 95 %of the food iwe consume as family in my house .
Sometimes I feel a slave of the kitchen, but then I remember why I m doing and who. And the feeling get converted in a blessing

    Hi Dr. Mike.
Thank you for another great vid.
My mother droned it in our heads. " shop the perimeter"
When i get processed crap, my body gets lethargic. My arthritis flares up, and i get waaay more hot flashes.
Eat, think, and do healthy. Is amazing how our bodies will perform so much better when we are not killing it with poisons.
    Stay cool and groovy

Great content Doc 💚 I’ve followed a protein diet for 40 years, mixed with moderate carbs and fats. And yes, you can eat healthy on a budget and it’s always best to cook your own. Americans are spoiled rotten and have too many choices! Keepn it simple! Thanks Doc for all you do 🌞

I’m on Keto since May 8th. I ate walnuts, sheep’s feta, chopped celery, chopped ginger (all raw), two cloves of garlic whole washed down with half a glass of extra virgin olive oil, and a half glass of diluted raw apple cider vinegar and as a treat I covered it all in fresh Italian Parmesan. Cost me about €1.80 ($2.60) . It was pretty nasty but hell I feel great!! ❤😅🎉🎉 great video!! And an important video as most of us are on a budget!!! (I got everything in Lidl (discount retailer) in Ireland 🇮🇪 ☘️☘️💪🥇😎)

YESSSS dear Catty from Ireland 🥰👍❣️
We are European, I'm German, and we have soo good and healthy Food here in whole Europe, and we all have to fight for, that our Politicians will not allow that these massive powerful Food-Industry can overcome with their "sick convinienced and progressed Food" and push our healthy Food out of our Community and Public!
They are catching our Kids very clever with their Tricks and Promotions...I see this since 50 , or 40 Years, it was going more and more, it becomes 'chic" to eat thisñm Trash, this Crap and the Youngsters meet each other in this "Food-Temples"...spending their little Money to unhealthy and fat feeding "Food"!
I was working nearly 50 Years in Medicine, in 3 different qualified Professions and I have seen what is' going on with our People! In the '70ties you didn't see so many thick, fat People in the Streets....have a look now...😢🥹😮‍💨😢.
And against our highly qualified Medicine the People didn't become more healthy - they became more sick!
Why is' Nobody looking and understanding this?
It makes me crazy to see "my Kids" (I'm also a Midwife over 30 Years 😍🙏) Walking in the Streets with 100 kg Weight with 16 or 20 Years! 🥹😢😭!
They have been wonderful healthy Babies....😢 of also lovely healthy Mothers, but the Industry is so "mighty"....

MAYBE a head of garlic would be under $2 in America but absolutely nothing else from that concoction is under $2 lol. A tiny thing of feta is at least $7! Let alone olive oil, walnuts and parm cheese! I'm moving to Ireland to be with my ancestors!!! lol!

I agree. Ditched the C.R.A.P and eat healthy just as cheap as when throwing processed into the cart. I've always eaten pretty healthy, but replacing junk with extra fresh products can eat for same price if not cheaper. I grow my own broccoli sprouts in mason jars for pennies in comparison to purchasing in store. Eating out is far and few between.

I find that when I eat clean and healthy I end up eating less because I feel satisfied. Over time that translates into spending the same or less. When I backslide into the SAD pattern, I eat more trying to get that feeling of satisfaction, and actually spend more on the impulse and crap "food".

You are so right that we forget how simple it can be to roast up a chicken or some veggies in the oven. Also the soup pot is highly underated and forgotten, you can sneak so much nutrition in there and a slow cooker is fabulous for letting a stew or soup simmer all day. Young people are just not taught the basic skills anymore and so it seems daunting.

Dr Hyman I love your books and you posts, especially this one where you are telling the masses that buying good food is not expensive or hard, but what we all really need are recipes. Could you share some of your recipes where you are only using a few easy to find ingredients?

I am learning that a lot of vegetables taste great with some good quality olive oil and different spices. I think experimenting with spices is a good way to add interest, flavor to raw or roasted vegetables.

"My mother never cooked, she just opened cans and my grandmother didn't and neither do I. I only eat salad in the summer when the market is open" says my old friend from college. She had issues w her heart, skin, brain but fails to see the connections. My organic food bill is half of her premade food bill. Such a misunderstanding

I agree 💯 with you Dr. Young women in particular, aren't domesticated and have no idea how to cook these days. I remember seeing a television series around 15 years ago by Jamie Oliver, an English chef. He went to America and was horrified by the amount of women who didn't know the first thing about cooking, and they had families. That's appalling!
Thanks for your great content, it's greatly appreciated.

Your talking about women as if it’s always their job. Why should it all fall on them, are men immune to cooking and housekeeping . Everyone should learn how to cook and eat well and if you have kids pass it on to them.

Thank you for this-- i’ve been vegan for over 10 years, vegetarian for 25 years and I’m pretty much raw vegan as of the past maybe five years, I also make vegan food for a family a few times a week and it’s extremely Inexpensive, I probably spend $20-$50 for them to have three meals for two people. Plus salads. The woman lost weight immediately just eating vegan whole food meals a few times a week.

I am whole food plant based - I do eat grass fed and pasture raised meats on occasion, but I more or less follow Pollan's advice of eat food, not too much, mostly plants and I believe from reading Dr. Hyman's books, that is his belief too. He is 100% right that people have to learn how to cook!

Good advices👍... I'm on my way in my kitchen.
Now when i go out with friends to eat i'm often dissapointed. In 20 minutes i make a better meal with less costs. Ok the restaurants are normal, no high price, no star cooking.
It's also remarkable what people today spend money on.... Starbucks for ex. , 20 workdays a highprice coffee... that sums up. 😅Where are the times from thermos flasks??
Ok, when you're at wallstreet make a lot of money it seems cool... but basically superfluous.

I do not know how to cook. I am 64. I had a wonderful mom who cooked mostly from scratch but now that you talk about adding a container of soup, she did that to make her chicken casserol. That chicken casserole was amazingly wonderful and I have not been able to repeat it !😢😢😢😢!!!
My mom usually cooked when I was either at school or out playing and she never, I guess, thought about having me or telling me to watch her cook or help her cook or do any of that, so I never did any of it and
I don’t know how to cook.
That’s the long and the short of it is that I’ve never learned how to cook. I don’t like to cook (most likely because I don’t know how) and I even taught my own kids that cooking consists of pulling frozen crap out of a box. Placing it on a cookie tray for 10 or 20 minutes and that is supper.
My husband enjoyed cooking. Loved cooking and was a fabulous cook but didn’t really want to do it. I don’t know why. He was very good at it and we all praised him AND the food he prepared, when he cooked.
Yeah, and I also have the Betty Crocker cookbook. I believe it’s the red one. OOPS! The Betty Crocker book is orange! The red cookbook is better homes and gardens!
Everyone has either one or both of those cookbooks and usually got presented with them at their bridal shower.😊😊😊😊

The worrying thing is that America’s “gift” of Fast-Food is now so embedded and global. Especially here in the UK. Places that used to pride themselves on their natural, healthy local produce & cuisine (even including the so-called “Blue Zone” regions) are seeing a continuing rise in convenience fodder & take-aways. Much of this rising demand is provided for by the huge increase in Fast-Food outlets throughout Europe. Most of these have been set up and run by immigrant men & their families, pouring in, in vast numbers from places like Turkey, Pakistan, India, Africa and of course the Middle and Far East. It’s more than just a dietary issue!

My experience too! For lunch today it was a club sandwich on white bread, mine no cheese, with a single serve bag of snacks chips on the side. A 1/2 cup of tomato soup out of a can, and a slice of factory- made cherry pie. I counted 4 cherries in my filling. Supper was supposed to be chicken Marsala, but the meat came out so tough, the Cook wasn't able to slice it! We had a long wait for leftovers, from yesterday. Big helping of egg noodles, top with small helping beef stroganoff, some of which had too much gristle to eat. I had to take Lactaid to eat that. Side of cooked peppers, Piece of marbled cake for dessert. Vanilla and chocolate. Alternate menu, a fried egg sandwich. Believe it or not, this is a big improvement over what our last cook served. Ugh, triple cheese grilled sandwiches. Heartburn City! No alternate, no veg at many meals.

It makes me so angry that functional medicine isn't the standard. The cost of seeing a good doctor is astronomical. I don't feed my children a bunch of junk and have a son with scalp and ear psoriasis. It's 1495.00$ to get the local fuctional medicine program started where I live. And that's just the starting cost. There is another 3000$ or more in lab fees. It's not a manageable program money wise.
