  • In this video, we're LS swapping a squarebody c10 - @twotrucksron's squarebody C10 to be exact...yep, Pecos is getting a new heart.
    WE SURPRISED OUR BUDDY WITH A 1984 SQUAREBODY C10: • WE SURPRISED OUR BUDDY...
    Two truck's Ron's IG: / twotrucksron
    Speed Engineering LS Swap C10 Longtube Headers (do not hang below frame rail on Pecos): amzn.to/31HzjFd
    GM Muscle Car Oil Pan(19212593): amzn.to/2CBosBn
    Corvette-style fuel regulator:
    WIX 33737 budget option: amzn.to/2X0Qm1v
    AC Delco OEM-spec option: amzn.to/2LjqADv
    If you haven't seen the rest of this LS Swap series, check out the playlist below:
    • LS Swaps
    Or if you want to pick and choose, select one from the list:
    Part 1: • LS Swapping a Squarebo...
    Part 2: • LS Swapping A Squarebo...
    Part 3: • LS Swapping a Squarebo...
    Part 4: • LS Swapping a Squarebo...
    @C10Squared's list and commentary on LS Swapping a Squarebody C10 (cleaned up for TH-cam description format and WG's advice incorporated). WG's Amazon Affiliate Links will be provided where applicable (parts purchased via these links supports WG)
    Keep in mind this is for Squarebody trucks. Primary differences for other year C10s will be fuel tank setup and engine mounts. For example, Dirty Dingo mounts seem to be preferred for 67-72, however Tejas are preferred for 73-87 c10s. This is my (c10 squared) recipe and there are many ways to do this; this is just how I do it.
    Engine mount plates Tejas Steelworks $100
    Chevy 350 engine mounts $40
    Gaskets for headers above Summit NAL-92202326 $25/pr
    Radiator - new factory radiator $120
    Lower radiator hose Napa PN 7499 $30
    Upper radiator hose for a 2000-2006 suburban $40
    1999 Ford Windstar fans from RockAuto $90
    Tanks Inc Fuel Injection tank for 1973-1987 $225 + shipping
    Tanks Inc sending unit for stock gas gauge $35
    Tanks inc GPA4 fuel pump kit (walbro 255lph pump) $225
    (the above is for trucks, if suburban has rear mount tank, would just
    buy a new one of those and then install a 1987 Suburban sending unit and a walbro 255LPH pump and use 5/16 and 3/8 to 6AN compression fittings; you can also save some $ and use your factory truck tank with a 1987 sending unit/walbro combo with compression fittings)
    Tanks Inc LS swap fuel line kit with fittings & regulator $235 (fuel regulator info above)
    Engine harness:
    I use BP Automotive for the harnesses and use the premium service which includes fuel pump relay $550 (Ron used PSI on Facebook and WG used PSI on Teddy as well)
    Fan harness with relays $80
    Tuning (I have BP tune the ecm or buy a tuned one from them $75
    Drive shaft shortened if needed $200
    o2 Sensors if needed $100 amzn.to/2L1kwzp (for PSI harness; check for BP)
    Lokar shift linkage for 4l60e $65 amzn.to/2Xr5WaW
    Lokar transmission dip stick $100 amzn.to/31I2g48 (black)
    Lokar oil dip stick $100 amzn.to/31G0Xm7
    you can probably use the factory LS dipsticks, but I always use the lokar...they look nice.
    depending on year of engine, may need the following
    single rail fuel rail from 2006+ engine $100 used or buy new billet
    Truck gas pedal for the DBW (needed for 2003-2007 engine)
    we have also had good luck just buying a billet block off cap for the return on the fuel rail to save some $ - $75
    Custom Exhaust $400-500
    Suggested:
    intake gasket set $60
    valve cover gasket set $30
    oil pan gasket $30
    New power and ground wires to battery $40
    You'll also have to figure out some type of cold air intake, i have seen people use the stock truck ones too. I paid like $65 for the chrome one for a silverado on amazon.
    GAUGES:
    Depends on what you want to run. You can do custom gauges from Dakota Digital, auto meter, etc, or you can set up stock gauges to work with a convertor from cableX etc.

    I just found a LM7 & 4L60E for under $1,000 yesterday. Complete with pedal, harness and ECU. Pick that up, strip it down and make a 383 stroker with it.
    Thinking about picking that up for square body project, so this video is perfect.

  • @alexlysiak1479
    @alexlysiak1479 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice build. 3 questions if you don't mind. 1) Why did we have to cut the block for the headers? Looked like they had clearance on the stand. 2) how do you plan to mount the dbw pedal? 3) did you need any spacers for the converter or direct replacement?

    • @UNITEDBYTRUCKS
      @UNITEDBYTRUCKS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) the speed engineering headers had limited room between the header and block. To avoid wear, we cut decided to trim that part of the block. pretty common thing; 2) this was a drive by cable install so no need for new pedal or TAC module 3) no spacers needed; Circle D is direct replacement for 4l60e

    I have done the same thing it was a 6.0 ls but I used a electric water pump and a electric fan but I used the shroud that was on the truck. it did help out a lot to be honest to help hide the wires. but also added a trans cooler for it as well because while there as well as to help the life of the trans as well. because I didn't know how abused the trans was added a after market trans filter that sits out side for added insurance. but the truck is amazing it was the rare extended cab square body which most say are ugly but to me more rare because it just looks amazing. but I am stumped why you are using dex3/merc3 in the 4l60e. those run optimal with dex6 a case plus 2 extra carquest aka castol which will be 98$ on sale all the time.

    • @UNITEDBYTRUCKS
      @UNITEDBYTRUCKS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very cool! Ron is adding a trans cooler as well. For the fluid, we went back with what the trans had in it when it was born (i.e. '02) and I believe that was Dex3. Ron had already scooped all that up so I just poured it in and didn't even pay attention. That said, I'm pretty sure I use Dex3 in my own '03 4L60e.

    • @twotrucksron4116
      @twotrucksron4116 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I added a huge tru cool 40k cooler. When I had the trans built I asked about fluid and I was told to use dex3. Had it in my old built trans, it’s in my current trans and runs just fine. Dex6 is just different viscosity (thinner) than 3 since the newer trans have tighter tolerances.

    If its a quest of power for the same cost as an LS swap cost of refreshing the LS and the cost of the new trans you could have built a supercharged 383 stroker up to about 6-700hp

    • @UNITEDBYTRUCKS
      @UNITEDBYTRUCKS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This swap was about reliability and power, not just power. And a supercharged 383 would cost way more than this LS swap.

      @@UNITEDBYTRUCKS the added up numbers in the description the cost of a new trans and the cost of the LS in my area to find a running 5.3 and all wiring and computer alone will set ya back 1200 bucks and the added up numbers in the description was around 3k and i don't know what that trans cost you, I'm guessing a good 5k ish total? And the countless trips to autopart stores and miscellaneous parts and peices would have to add up quick you could build the 383 yourself buying good used parts just shopping out the machine work and find a good used B&M or wieland SC for about 800 bucks easily done for less then 5k, LS is cool yes but seems like i would be a wiring and fitment nightmare over time

    • @UNITEDBYTRUCKS
      @UNITEDBYTRUCKS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      merritt McDowell most definitely not. If i has to guess, i have $4000 in my swap. $1000 in motor and trans, $1100 in complete fuel system and $700 in new computer and harness, and maybe another $1000 in hard parts etc. I’m not an LS kool aid drinker, but the reliability of an LS and ease to put in is well worth the money. And as with anything, you can spend as lunch as you want. I chose to spend my money on the fuel tank/system.

    Hey Square body ppl!! I could use some help/advice...I'm building my 1st LS!!!! It's for a 82 C10 I'm working on. I'm using a 6.0 lq4 paired with a 4L80 out of a 2005 Silverado. I plan on daily driving it but want to keep it "simple". I already have a SS truck intake manifold, just ordered some long tubes, probably going sloppy stage 2 cam 228/230 with springs, and a built torque converter. The converter is where I can use some knowledge. I was told to run a 3200 stall but just saw a turbo 99? 4.8 running a 2300 stall....
