    Every 6 liter ive bought has come with a truck attached. Buy a messed up Yukon Denali or something for $1500. Comes with all extra accessories and things you need. Part out the truck to recoup most or all of your initial cost and you're all set.

      Most times when you buy a 6.0 out already it ends up having issues and everyone has a hard on for a 6.0. Best bang for buck is 5.3 with a cam and good 243/799/706 head.

    • @maxbialystock254
      @maxbialystock254 ปีที่แล้ว

      Study all three engines. Architecture, specifications, block designs etc. I can't lay it all out in the comments section. Start with Wikipedia for example. If you do then you will have learned the differences and decide which is best for your application. For me from my own experiences I properly prefer the performance of the 4.8 But make up your own mind and go with that works for you.@@hajileserpud9539

    • @pudge90x
      @pudge90x ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@hajileserpud9539 For budget builds they just hold up the longest. It comes down to bore/stroke. The 4.8/5.3 have smaller bores which means less pressure on the rod. Keeping the power lower at lower rpm really helps keep the engine alive. The 4.8 has a shorter stroke, moving that power band even higher, helping the rods out further. The bigger displacement engines tend to spool the turbo sooner which further stresses the rods. Simply put, at 700hp on all 3 engines the 6.0 sees the most stress over the entire rpm band and higher peak torque. The lq4 has come down in price a lot in the past few years so I tend to go with that for a higher ceiling potential and lower rpm grunt.

    Summit cams generally use smaller base circles meaning the 7.4 pushrods are on the short side. They'll work but they'll be noisy. Combine that with low oil pressure not providing the lifters with enough volume/pressure to pump up properly and that will definitely set you back 40-50 hp.

    I do know that if you get an older 4.8 5.3 block and it has to be stamped 4.8/5.3. Those have walls thick enough that you can bore them out to LS1 pistons. Also the 5.3 has a dish piston and the 4.8 had a flattop piston giving it a higher compression ratio than the 5.3 in a way to boost power. So don’t shy away from an older quality 4.8 motor. Keep the flattop pistons and put a 5.3 crank in it and have fun.

    • @LeeHendo
      @LeeHendo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A 4.8 and a dished piston 5.3 are within 10hp with stock heads and the same mods n/a, the difference is the extra tq the 5.3 makes. I wouldn't waste my time turning a 5.3 into an LS1 unless you have very special circumstances, like having the pistons laying around, able to get the machine work done dirt cheap and it's n/a only. If you're using boost don't waste your time or money on machine work or heads, just a cam+springs, fuel system, converter, turbo a 4.8/5.3 with 706/862 heads, no need to use 243/799 on anything smaller than 6.0 and I wouldn't on a 6.0 for the extra tq under the curve vs 10hp or less for 800rpms at the very top, rec ports on a flat top piston 6.0 are a compromise and a half, maybe they make more power with the largest cam they allow p-v for vs the same on with cathedral ports, however the cathedral ports allow significantly more cam, build more compression, make more tq, have less valvetrain to issues with budget parts, cost less, spool quicker, better throttle response, better part throttle driving and economy. I can't see using an 821/823 head on less than a 388/402/408/416/427/442/454/468. A ported, milled 243/799 on a 5.7/6.0/6.2/383/402/408/416/427 or ported, milled and possibly upgraded to 2' intake valve 706/862 is better for a flat top 5.3/5.7/6.0/6.2/383 then 706/862 ported, milled with std valves on a 4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0.

    I loved watching both of your builds. Just a couple notes on my experiences on my 2010 GMC 1500.
    At the 6:00 mark, you had installed new lifter buckets. I highly recommend replacing these any time that the heads are removed. Two years ago, it was a bad lifter bucket that had made my lifters rotate, thus wiping out my camshaft.
    At 24:49 you had installed the valley plate that blocks off the AFM oil ports. That's one mistake that I'll never do. On my 5.3L LC9, I had tapped threads and installed pipe plugs into those AFM ports. That way I never have to worry about the seals on the valley plate to become brittle and cracked that could lead to loss of oil pressure.
    Loved your video guys! Thanks

    Great video love both of the LS motors. I personally would go with a LQ4 6.0 but for the fact you can build monster HP with them on a really fair budget as well as they can run LS3 heads and if you want to get really crazy a super charger with that set up and a strong built motor you can easily push 600 to 700 HP! I am in no way saying go buy a junkyard 6.0 slap LS3 heads bigger cam and a blower and just wring it out! It most definitely will catastrophically fail. But for the price a LS on a budget the LQ4 is the way to go if you are looking for big HP for cheap. You can easily make 500 HP with a bigger cam LS3 heads and a high plane intake manifold. And you can do it with 4 to 5 thousand dollars. You do some real hunting and do all the work yourself you could do it under 4,000! This is just my humble opinion the smaller LS is definitely going to be easier to find. It is probably the most common small block engine to find parts for and in use in today’s day and age they went in everything and are used for everything. Both motors speak for themselves it just depends on what the application is for. Great video best of luck to you guys and anyone else working on there projects.🫡

    There's no reason to bother with anything but a cam and springs on a 4.8 or 5.3, just use 706/862 heqds, with Ethanol ring gap is optional too, just add boost. You're going to be way ahead of a 6.0, even with aftermarket heads, cam, intake, even with a stroker 402+ci a boosted 4.8 will dominate, even with a crap GT45, a 78/75, S475/S480/S488 T4 ot T6 and the sky is the limit with enough fuel system and Ethanol access. I would like to see a revival of water injection that can be tuned and used with Holley tuning solutions and allow 87oct pump swill to support 700hp or so.

    I'll take the 4.8ltr and a couple of Borg Warner S362sxe turbochargers and whoop both of those...🏁LET'S GO, Angelo
