Bonjour, I am one your many young french audience member. On top of your many wonderful advices and lessons, i just wanted to tell you that to witness your true love, in the way you talk and listened to each other is truely wonderful. Probably your best influence.
@@garysmith1477commenting on her style almost seems a waste of words. What could you possibly say? Even the most tasteful sentence would I think be over-egging the pudding.
Thank you, Sonya and Hugo, for returning to this format of engaging the themes of bespoke suits and style. I certainly hope to see this kind of show in the future!
I heard about The Italian Gentleman recently, which led me to your channel. I LOVE all your videos! You've both inspired me to travel to Paris from across the pond (UK), I'll be suited and booted! First stop, Septieme Largeur! Then I'll be on the search for an Ulster overcoat. God bless you for all your videos and teaching the grace of fashion, especially sprezzatura. Thank you Hugo, Sonya and your film team! 💛
I think you make a wonderful couple and it's really nice to see you both here, I love your honest conversations especially when you sometimes disagree, it's so natural but at the same time comming out of it in a very elegant way.
Thanks for a very interesting list of ideas, Sonya Glynn! Some of them are things I've already tried, some are things I want to try, some are things I probably won't pick up. But always great to have your analysis of what's out there! I love the shows where the two of you are conversing (the podcasts, too). So you get two thumbs up from me for more shows together! I also have to thank you for your recommendation of shoe brands- I've now tried Justin Fitzpatrick, Septième Largeur, and CNES after your recommendation of them and have had fantastic experiences with all of them!
I love seeing you two do shows together. Absolutely. I was a little nervous when you said "How to not look like a 1980's corporate man....". Because when I dressed my brothers for a wedding in the late 1990s, a cousin told us we all looked like bankers. I think that was his vocabulary because he didn't how else to word it. Especially with the ties I chose for my brothers. Thankfully, I think my look is perfectly current for today's sartorial fashion standards. Maybe always there. But it came from a place of practicality and not style. My first MTO shoes I bought last year I specified with a double-rubber sole. For a penny loafer. Not only do I love this style loafer, but I walk a lot here in New York City. And it's for casual wear which fits with anything in that genre. And the shoes I'm buying now have somewhat thicker soles because of the walking which have been derby shoes/boots. And the thicker soles look fine on derbies. Maybe perfect. Separates. Knitwear. Vests. All check-marked. Mostly, because it gets cold in NYC but I don't want to wear an overcoat or maybe in addition to one. Again, very practical. But the first time I saw that was in the 1989 Batman movie. I saw Michael Keaton wearing a suit with a sweater underneath the jacket and thought that looked good. Lastly... The Man Bag. Gosh, I've had one since the 1990s. I bought it solely for practical reasons: I didn't like the look of a wallet in my back pocket and I just started carrying too many things that I needed. If I had a jacket with half-dozen pocket, that would technically work. But that looks so bad. And having a big wallet in your back pocket can cause back problems. Seriously. It's a known issue. I took a decent amount of heat for having a man bag in the 1990s. But no so much anymore. My first was an Armani that I had for about 15 years. It was made of nylon and when that finally aged, I got a gorgeous Il Bisonte bag. Looks good with anything I wear it with. Thanks for the helpful video!
I think the "banker" look is when it is too uniform. Too much of a suit that once was 3 piece but now is a 2 piece. To not look like a banker is to have your own flare, something that shows your own interests and personality. Not garish, but not a text book workplace dress code.
Wow! What a conversation !! I really like and admire (beside, of course, the great tips you mentioned) that the whole conversation is truly not organised or agreed on before between both of you,,it very relaxing and spontaneous discussion. I already do some of your tips , especially tone on tone& the turtle neck with jackets or coats, which I'm obsessed with 😊. Loved to see you together after a long time,,,and my dear Sonya, your jacket is simply beautiful & chic. Thanks & love to both of you from Cairo. ❤
Hugo, you are so right. Since 2020, my wardrobe has become so versatile as to blend sartorial style with modern sensibilities. I can blend casual pants and shoes with jackets & shirts, dress oxfords with dainite soles or tennis shoes, jeans with jackets like never before, sweaters and polos with jackets. What a wonderful world! Cheers to you and Sonia, greetings from Colorado!
Some interesting advice in here! From the title I expected to hear advice on how to make our suits more current, not what to wear with them to make them look more current, but this is a nice roundup of the current instagram trends I guess. I never really expected to hear you guys advocating for wearing baseball caps with tailoring, but it's always nice to be surprised 😅 Looking forward to more videos and hope you have a fantastic 2024!
Excellent video as always, and I would indeed welcome and like to see the two of you do more interesting videos like this, appreciate many of the suggestions and recommendations I have recently been carrying a leather tote (Men's purse) and I really enjoy having it especially when it frees up not having to carry so many objects in my hands thanks again for sharing!
I’m reading the Italian Gentleman as we speak. It’s a wonderful, stunning book and I’ve really enjoyed your sartorial talks. It has been incredibly helpful for me in my style journey. Best wishes and hope you two keep up the great work!
I love all the items in your video, with the exception of a ball cap. I love turtle neck with a suit, a blazer or a sport coat, which I think creates an artistic look. I don’t wear glasses, so that doesn’t apply to me. One thing you could have added is wearing glasses with a chain around the neck.
I'm used to follow Hugo's french channel and it's the first time I'm listening to her, loved the show. You should definitely do more episodes together. Thanks for the recomendations
We do love being together all the time. It's actually a way of life that is not very popular in the mid 2020's but we love it this way! All our best to you and your wife. Hugo & Sonya
Happy to hear that many of my habits are seen as stylish. Recycling suit separates, layering different shades, playing with watch strap colors, and carrying a tote are all natural to me as an active father who is always wearing out clothing chasing after my daughter. For a video idea, you should consider exploring children's fashion! Just a suggestion.
34:49 perhaps a copy of a satchel, in a veg tan leather, with brass buckles? For a more casual bag, something similar in a heavy canvas like those made by Duluth Pack. They actually have a product just like I am suggesting and they call it their mini haversack, a little bigger than the average lady's purse, not quite the size of a briefcase. Leather and canvas are available it seems
What a fun, instructive video!! More like this, please. I have always wanted a linen suit. Yes, the wrinkles are part of the charm. You've convinced me to start shopping in time for summer.
Very interesting episode. I must say my favourite person wearing a roll neck is the late great Edward Sexton. The contrast of his strong shoulder on his jacket versus the softness of the knit was exquiste to my eye. There are still a few pictures available of him on-line.
Hello Hugo and Sonya! Just wanting to share some of my experiences.. I am 22 years old working in IT as a data scientist. My colleagues in the team I am in mostly wear sweaters, jeans, sometimes trousers with a semi-formal shirt. I arrived in a polo shirt to the interview as I knew the dress style was casual. I hadn't looked into the world of suits at all as I am from the countryside and no one I know wears a suit, everyone is casual. I went to Jakarta, Indonesia for a holiday trip with a friend of mine and just decided to get two three pieces, bespoke, and one linen jacket. I fell in love. But I didn't know anything about wearing a suit, luckily I stumbled upon this channel and it is lovely. I haven't worn my bespoke suit just yet, mostly seperates as even wearing a suit jacket creates comments like "Oh seems like we got a new CEO, nice to meet you" from my colleagues. I just continue wearing it though, but it causes me to be hesitant to even go two piece, let alone use my 3 piece suit. Likely also my age comes into play, as the overall stigma is that older people wear suits. Being in IT where in general people do not dress well, makes this also quite difficult to pull off... I love dressing up, just don't want to be completely out of place all the time. I find it extremely difficult to get the right balance for an occasion, causing me often hours a week to figure out my wardrobe just to get an outfit for casual occasion that includes a suit jacket as I love wearing that. It often comes down to random pops of color such as my socks, whilst being monochromatic, and having a colorful wristband and necklace. Also, the linen jacket is awesome due to its nature of being wrinkled, just unfortunate that here in the Netherlands it is cold and windy haha. I still have a lot to learn and get used to the comments from the casually dressed crowd, but you guys make the learning a lot of fun so thank you for that!
I was a banker in the 1980's ....or at least a stockbroker .....and would like to see the look return. I did enjoy the suggestions in this video and have started by having Dainite soles installed on my lace-up dress shoes. And as a horseman, have acquired a yellow hunt vest and a tattersall vest to supplement suits. Great idea!
Thank you for another interesting discussion, Hugo and Sonya! Funny that you guys recommend suit separates right off the bat: as a tall, lanky guy that doesn't have to follow a dress code, I haven't had a suit in almost a decade. It's all odd jackets and trousers for me.
I want to talk about Sonya for a second. She looked amazing from the shirt and jacket to the hair and glasses. She also was a wonderful host with insightful observations, even if I don't want to heed some of them, like the man purse. Yes, she was amazing and we should see more of her!
Having a non-backpack bag mandatory. The perfect size is a laptop bag. This is masculine vs calling it a purse. Bespoke leather to match your shoes is perfection.
Dear Sonja and Hugo, How do you best fold your clothes, and how do you store clothes, when you travel? Especially when traveling on business. Can je make a video about this sometime?
I'm very glad you mentioned about shoe volume. As a man who has a size 14 US shoe most shoe makers do not know how to properly construct the last . because a shoe heal for a man that has a larger foot should be higher and there is only one shoemaker I. Found that will do that.
I have a linen blazer similar to the one pictured in the video. I just cant use it because of the wrinkles on the sleeves. Is this acordona sleeve look part of the linen style?
Well, to be honest the better the linen quality, the less the "accordion" effect on the sleeves. But yes, you have to accept it, if reasonable of course. Cheers, Hugo
Fantastic episode this was the most professional I've ever seen you guys, or any of the fashion setups on TH-cam. This was like watching a TV production. brilliant advice I love that you're both so authentic makes me very comfortable watching and makes me support you guys and wish you the very best. I only started learning how to dress myself just around 2/3 years ago and your video on the sartorial ladder was my original guideline. And yes more like this together please you too work wonderful together amazing chemistry have a fantastic day whenever you see this❤
Honestly I’m surprised that I do a lot of these already. I mostly wear separates since my job doesn’t require full suits. I wear blue light glasses (and have actually gotten lots of compliments for them) since they reduce my eye strain. I also like doing lots of tan or blue tone on tone outfits. Nice video!
Dear Hugo and Sonya, I am truly inspired by the gentleman's outfit at 23:07 in this video! His ensemble is extraordinary and aligns perfectly with the day-to-day wardrobe I aspire to build, particularly in settings where suits are not the norm. Could you provide detailed guidance on how to construct a wardrobe based on the foundation of this look? Additionally, I would love to know the model of the backpack he is wearing. Thank you both for continuously producing such exceptional content. Your insights and style have profoundly influenced my sartorial journey. Warmest regards, Pierre. A.
I absolutely LOVED this Sartorial Talk! It gave me so many ideas to get out of the rut I seem to be in. I love Sonya's precision in ideas but also in language! She's fantastic. And, of course, I had to start following Alberto Córdoba! And, that's when it hit me... it's pronounced COR-do-ba because the accent on the ó tells the reader that the regular rules of pronunciation do not apply here. One must put the accent on the accented syllable...so, Sonya was right! It's pronounced Alberto COR-do-ba. (@Spanish speakers... please correct me if I'm wrong. I speak English and French and only a little Spanish). Wonderful talk Hugo and Sonya!
A general comment about the series. I am getting great value from what you both do. The candor is very impressive. Hugo is a Frenchman who seems so comfortable going back and forth from French to American culture. He admits his personal and stylistic prejudices, he will say something to the effect, "I didn't know about that American brand but it appears to be well-made, but style and taste-wise it is not for me." Going to visit Trenton and Heath- great idea. And watching this one and the episode where you each can challenge the other on any topic, is impressive. Sonya and you both strong, independent personalities but allow kindly for each other's opinion. I haven't found episodes of you guys in Japan. Is that in the works?
Great tips, thanks for sharing. My last pair of glasses were definitely an upgrade. Not bespoke but a nice natural buffalo horn. One general comment. I believe that today, men who are wearing suits, unless they truly must, such as traditional Swiss banking, are doing so because they want to, not need to. As a result, there are much more interesting looks and many of these tips are being used. By the way, thanks for listing the IG accounts, and keep up the great work! Cheers from Zurich.
I sweat a lot, sometimes through my trousers, even if I'm sitting in an office chair all day. So it's important to me that I'm wearing cotton trousers that I can wash frequently. As a result, I'm always always wearing odd jackets with odd trousers. I get my cotton trousers made custom with pleats, no back pockets, button fly, suspenders, etc., anything possible to dress them up, but they're still cotton trousers. I like it a lot - I think it lets you put together nicer color palettes.
Hi folks. Always lovely to see you. I liked the video, thank you. I use a Cambridge Satchels Batchel. It is a satchel with a handle. Praise the Lord. M
Hi guys, great video. I was just wondering if there were any ready to wear brands for suits you’d recommend or even made to measure. I’m based in London, I’ve bought a couple of pieces from Pini Parma which I liked. Are there any other designers on a similar line you could recommend? Thank you.
Hello Sonya, My wife and I are trying to look for good brands to dress her like you. Maybe not the same budget, but do you have any recommendations for women's brands like you do for men? Regards florian
Just discovered your excellent channel. As a lifelong British Mod I have always aspired to elegant dress, if not to your immaculate and rareified level. My daily dress is well cut trousers, Ben Sherman button down shirt, cashmere sweater, and Jeffrey West brogues or boots. For more formal wear I lack the means (I have a classic Jaguar XJ to maintain) for tailor made suits so I have to settle for good quality off the peg, which I choose with care. Keep up the good work.
Will be in Venezia for Carnevale next week and have one flannel suit and many turtleneck (roll-neck) sweaters with some texture for those times when we aren't in costume. ;)
Hello Hugo and Sonya. Very entertaining discussion with nice talking points. Also nice outfits. I especially admire your tie Hugo; it has an elegant dimensionality to it. Who made it? Tie Your Tie? Also, beautiful light grey suit. It is very visually pleasing how the suit and your hair have some kind of harmony about them. Is the cloth a heavy flannel by Hardy Minnis/HFW? And those tortoise shell glasses are distinguished.
Thank you for this video. I started the process of my last suit by expressing that I wanted something elegant but leaning casual for nice dinners and social events. When the suit was delivered, it looked very rigid and the tailor said, “You look great, like a senator on Capitol Hill!” Ooof!
One way to update the wardrobe is to take existing suits and add new suits, pocket squares, and ties. New ties and pocket squares do miracles for making an older suit stand out. Buying new dress shoes also helps.
Hello! I do love you videos. Your advices really help me to improve my taste . Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Could you please tell me where I can find shoes with vibram sole you’ve showed us in this video? I like it and want to buy one . 😊
I do appreciate your swift reply. I know this brand and I have a pair of shoes. 😊 but I Asking about the shoe you had at home and showed us in this episode. I couldn’t find it on the website you provided😊
Love the video, I mostly agree with Hugo about a few points. I personally am 57 and feel the wearing of baseball caps for younger men looks better, and because of my age I would never show my bare ankles 😂😂 I visited Italy a few years ago and picked up the habit of carrying a small leather clutch bag with a wrist strap that looks like an oversized wallet and matches my shoes. Thank you so much for your content.
Hello Hugo & Sonya, hope you are doing well. Which cedar spray do you use? I think it would be a great episode where you talked about the items needed to keep all the high end fabrics safe and properly cared for.
The first step in my sartorial journey happened to be my glasses and to your point, glasses can make a statement or can provide that signature look. I spent a lot of money over the years on various brands, Chrome Hearts, Blinde, Paul Smith and Oliver Peoples to name a few. What I discovered was the less expensive frames today can be just as elegant or striking as you simply have to look diligently to find that diamond in the ruff. Like anything you wear even glasses, a good fit is a priority.
@@SARTORIALTALKS, Hi Hugo! I live in the US (Utah). I’ve looked around at some local stores and haven’t seen much. I’ve never purchased a cotton or linen suit, and the traditional stores around here don’t seem to do much in that area. I figured online is probably where I need to go, But this is your area of expertise, so I appreciate any thoughts you might have on the topic.
After watching this video, I realized that the one thing I can confidently say I have in common with Hugo is... asthma haha kidding aside, lovely to see you both chat candidly as always!
problem with all these fashion jackets is that they make you freeze in the front. what kind of shape could take that into account and still be closed and look great?

I still have a lot to learn and get used to the comments from the casually dressed crowd, but you guys make the learning a lot of fun so thank you for that!
oh hey, another sartorial talks! thats a pleasant surprise in the morning. I was starting to worry the show was ending/winding down :P
The show is still doing well my friend. We published over 150 episodes so far, and we'll continue for sure! Hugo & Sonya
Great idea!
Tattersall vest is so beautiful and versatile! Cheers, Hugo
Thank you for another interesting discussion, Hugo and Sonya!
Funny that you guys recommend suit separates right off the bat: as a tall, lanky guy that doesn't have to follow a dress code, I haven't had a suit in almost a decade. It's all odd jackets and trousers for me.
Separates are excellent for tall guys indeed! Cheers, Hugo
I want to talk about Sonya for a second. She looked amazing from the shirt and jacket to the hair and glasses. She also was a wonderful host with insightful observations, even if I don't want to heed some of them, like the man purse. Yes, she was amazing and we should see more of her!
Thoughtful list. Phenomenal content.
Thank you sir! Best, Hugo
Having a non-backpack bag mandatory. The perfect size is a laptop bag. This is masculine vs calling it a purse. Bespoke leather to match your shoes is perfection.
Thanks Brian! Cheers, Hugo
Yes yes yes, a video with Mme Sonya!
I think we all agree! Cheers, Hugo
Dear Sonja and Hugo, How do you best fold your clothes, and how do you store clothes, when you travel?
Especially when traveling on business. Can je make a video about this sometime?
Good idea. Cheers, Hugo
Thank you. My favourite polo shirts have a stiffer collar, so that they don't curl up at the edges. Definitely a favourite!
Good point my friend! Cheers, Hugo
I'm very glad you mentioned about shoe volume. As a man who has a size 14 US shoe most shoe makers do not know how to properly construct the last . because a shoe heal for a man that has a larger foot should be higher and there is only one shoemaker I. Found that will do that.
Thanks my friend, Cheers, Hugo
Together or alone, you two are always great! 🎩
Many thanks Reginald! Hugo
And yes more like this together please you too work wonderful together amazing chemistry have a fantastic day whenever you see this❤
Thank you very much for your encouraging message! Best wishes, Hugo & Sonya
Nice video!
Thank you my friend! Hugo
I love seeing you both together.
Dear Hugo and Sonya,
I am truly inspired by the gentleman's outfit at 23:07 in this video!
Warmest regards,
Pierre.
You're probably right about the pronunciation my friend! Cheers, Hugo
Many thanks for your kind and encouraging words. Bien amicalement ! Hugo
Add coloured shoelaces to the list. Blue laces go well with brown boots.
Good idea. Hugo
Thank you sir for your kind words and for your contribution. Cheers, Hugo
I like the linen suits discussion.
Thanks William! Hugo
Love seeing both of you and the exchange of different opinions and ideas ❤ votre sante
A votre santé chez ami (I don't know if Meursault is your actual name, but it's a fabulous wine). Cheers, Hugo
Outstanding show! Who is the maker of that single-monk shoe you just received?

Hi folks. Always lovely to see you. I liked the video, thank you. I use a Cambridge Satchels Batchel. It is a satchel with a handle. Praise the Lord. M
Good morning dear friend! God bless you! Hugo

Good evening mr and mrs Jacomet
Every episode you do are amazing .

Hi guys, great video. I was just wondering if there were any ready to wear brands for suits you’d recommend or even made to measure. I’m based in London, I’ve bought a couple of pieces from Pini Parma which I liked. Are there any other designers on a similar line you could recommend? Thank you.
I think Cad and the Dandy can be a good option in London. Cheers, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKSThank you. I will take a look.
Really enjoyed the video!
Thank you sir! Hugo
Hello Sonya,
My wife and I are trying to look for good brands to dress her like you. Maybe not the same budget, but do you have any recommendations for women's brands like you do for men?
Regards
florian
Great video!!!! Yes!!!! You make a great team, please do more like this!
I'm having a difficult time with the chunky sole dress shoes. Hmmm... can't see wearing a cap with a suit, either.
Same here, no cap with a suit. However chunky soles can be supremely comfortable yet very stylish (like the pair I show). All my very best, Hugo
Many thanks Gareth! Ben Sherman polo shirts are iconic! All my best, Hugo
Will be in Venezia for Carnevale next week and have one flannel suit and many turtleneck (roll-neck) sweaters with some texture for those times when we aren't in costume. ;)
Lucky man! Cheers, Hugo
Thanks guys!
Pleasure my friend! Hugo
Yes it's Tie your Tie of course and the suit is a bespoke DB by the late Luigi Dalcuore with a Fox Brothers heavy wool (400gr). Cheers, Hugo
Thank you for this video. I started the process of my last suit by expressing that I wanted something elegant but leaning casual for nice dinners and social events. When the suit was delivered, it looked very rigid and the tailor said, “You look great, like a senator on Capitol Hill!” Ooof!
I believe a lot of suit new comers can relate to your message. Hence this video! All our best, Hugo & Sonya
One way to update the wardrobe is to take existing suits and add new suits, pocket squares, and ties. New ties and pocket squares do miracles for making an older suit stand out. Buying new dress shoes also helps.
Absolutely! Hugo
Hello! I do love you videos. Your advices really help me to improve my taste . Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Could you please tell me where I can find shoes with vibram sole you’ve showed us in this video? I like it and want to buy one . 😊
Thanks for your good words. Here is the link for you: www.septiemelargeur.fr/en/277-loafers
All my very best, Hugo
I do appreciate your swift reply. I know this brand and I have a pair of shoes. 😊 but I
Asking about the shoe you had at home and showed us in this episode. I couldn’t find it on the website you provided😊

Love the video, I mostly agree with Hugo about a few points.
I personally am 57 and feel the wearing of baseball caps for younger men looks better, and because of my age I would never show my bare ankles 😂😂
I visited Italy a few years ago and picked up the habit of carrying a small leather clutch bag with a wrist strap that looks like an oversized wallet and matches my shoes.
Thank you so much for your content.
You're more than welcome my friend! Hugo
I think paraboot which is a french brand could work with casul suit in cotton, linen or tweed/clvary twill as they have the thick sole
You're right, Paraboot is known since decades for a specific model with thick soles. Beautiful French company by the way. Cheers, Hugo
Hello Hugo & Sonya, hope you are doing well. Which cedar spray do you use? I think it would be a great episode where you talked about the items needed to keep all the high end fabrics safe and properly cared for.
Good afternoon. We buy our cedar sprays at an "organic shop" (we call it BIO in France). Only natural stuff. And it works decently. Cheers, Hugo
Thank you for your response. @@SARTORIALTALKS
You're perfectly right Phil! Cheers, Hugo
Thank you Sonya.................Great looks!
Pleasure! Sonya
What are some recommended places to find good cotton and linen suits?
Where do you live my friend? Cheers, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Hi, Hugo, do you have any thoughts on where cotton and linen suits might be available? Thanks so much, I hope you are well.
What cedar spray do you use?
After watching this video, I realized that the one thing I can confidently say I have in common with Hugo is... asthma haha kidding aside, lovely to see you both chat candidly as always!
Asthma used to be complicated to live with when I was a boy. But today, with all the sprays we have, it's much easier of course. All my best, Hugo
By the way did you try Bexley shoes 👞, in France ?
problem with all these fashion jackets is that they make you freeze in the front. what kind of shape could take that into account and still be closed and look great?
Any kind of working jacket (like the forestière at Berluti). Cheers, Hugo
You are amazing!
Bright and beautiful!
Merci!! Hugo & Sonya
Some good advice, particularly suit separates, but baseball caps? With due respect, I can't see how that could be recommended.
I'm not too much of a fan with caps neither (I wear one only when I'm casual). All my best, Hugo
She wears her jacket with pzazz, rolled up wrists, braces, feminine jewellery and an open shirt. Bravo!
She's great indeed!! Hugo
Very practical. 👍 I’m a leather sole type of guy.
Me too my friend! Hugo
My question is : Is elegant classy man should wear only suit and tie or blazer and tie every time, or there could be another alternatives?
What do you think of the trend to wear non-collared T shirts under suits and sport coats during the hot months?
The world definitely has its own elegance.
I wish there were more easement like putting on some clothes.
Not sure I understand your point, but it's maybe because I'm just French 😅🤣. Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS the world can be a rough place to be, it’s nice having some beauty around 🍻
