    In this episode, I restore the heater/air con unit from the E30 325i Sport. This is something I've been putting off because of how little I knew about it. I didn't know if it was going to easily dismantle, or if it was even possible. Some things aren't meant to be taken apart once they're made, but it turned out this was not one of those things. I managed to completely dismantle every single part and see to it that they went back in looking brand new.
    This unit worked as it should when it was in the car. No leaks, no blower issues, and good heat. The only thing is, over the time it's been out I've lost a few pieces, including the correct resistor that sits just under the motor. I have that on order along with a large list of parts that either went missing during this restoration or before. Obviously, due to the lockdown, parts are taking a very long time to arrive, I wanted to get an episode out so I'll deal with those small parts later and update you on my Instagram. Links the bottom of this description.
    Most of the tank was in great condition and didn't need touching. But as I was already painting the edges I thought a few more coats of paint wouldn't hurt.
    Thanks for watching! Subscribe with the bell on to see this car back to the factory condition.

    Hey guys, thanks for watching and thanks for all of the advice. I've decided I'm going to change both heat exchangers (the heater core and evaporator) for brand new ones and also buy a new blower motor to go with the new motor clip that's on the way. I could have waited for all of those parts to arrive, but in the current climate, it would have delayed the video for weeks. I'll make a little video for Instagram when all of the new parts arrive. Follow @restoreitytchannel to see that when it happens. Thanks for all the lovely comments! Stay safe everyone.

      Smart move, while some say if it aint broke don't fix it. These parts usually decide to start leaking after they get put back in. Its worth replacing them ALWAYS!

    Those gaskets are really important to prevent water dripping in through the upper firewall. I got a rusyt footwell because of that... I would replace all of them. Please check for leaks after reinstallation in that area to prevent further leakage! Keep up the good work and stay safe down there in Spain. Best from Germany

    I have done a similiar project to a mk2 golf's heaterbox. Dismantled everything, cleaned it, replaced all the gaskets and foam insulators. Replaced the heatermatrix, cleaned and restored the faceplate, replaced the bulbs, blower motor etc. It was worth the effort 100%. I kind of wish i had an older car again, so i could do all these projects that made me happy back in the day.

    I did this exact same thing to a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee.I totally removed the entire dash and everything connected to the metal firewall. And for the deteriorated foam parts and doors, I used sun-visor replacement materials and 3M 77 spray glues. Every part removed, cleaned and tested. I even replaced the heater/AC units in the plenum as well. Great to have a perfectly great working system again. Thumbs Up!

    Hey, I'm not a mechanic or anything, but I'd like to point out: when sealing 2 components together, always insert all the fasteners and brackets where they're supposed to go. I.E: the screws on a cylinder head. You place and screw them on all first before beginning to tighten them (as opposed to placing 1 screw and tightening it, then placing another and so on). You could do so with brackets and rivets: place all brackets with rivets before securing them down completely.

    • @RestoreIt
      @RestoreIt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the advice Luke, great point.

    • @andy_liga
      @andy_liga 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes and no. On plastic the effect is almost minimal really, in this case is more of a good habit. Talking about motor that's very true, but you won't do it to secure the seal, you tighten then torque to avoid bending the cylinder head into a banana

    I normally don't like resto videos with music or voiceovers, I kinda watch restovideos to relax and go to sleep to. I've watched you for a while and you only get better and better. It doesn't help that I'm a BMW lover by heart and these e30 videos has been a true blessing to watch. Your voice is great to listen to, and I learn a lot from you explaining things.
    I love the way you challenge yourself with doing stuff you've never done before. Keep up the great content, hope to see the e30 drive soon ;)

    Mannnnn I'm extremely impressed with this one. As a fellow restoration geek I'll restore practically anything I can get my hands on but, this is one of those things were I'd be WAY too uncomfortable tackling. It looked so painfully confusing through this video during the disassembly, but surprisingly it looked much simpler during the reassembly process. Good job brotha, been watching you since the very first upload and you never fail to satisfy!! Never stop doing this please 😂
