Great job man! A tip: use neutral dish detergent or petroleum jelly to mount the rubbers instead of the grease. The grease attacks the rubber, it can cause a shortened service life (due to dryness of rubber).

The E28 hubs are interchangeable with e30 hubs? Why couldnt i find this information anywhere? I've been looking for an option to 5 lug swap my touring but the only 2 options i could find was either E36 M3 front knuckles hubs and breaks, or 4 to 5 lug converting spacers... Finally a viable option! Question tho, are the offset for the breaks the same? So could i just swap my front hubs for e28 and put on e28 front rotors with my e30 calipers? Also nice work keep up the quality videos!

When using spring compression clamps: You NEVER stand in front or over top of the darn things. I have seen (as a nurse) the damage to the rib cage and internal organs of a human being done as a result of these slipping off the spring. Always stand to the side and never attempt to remove other parts while you are using this tool. I have a set of these in my tool box and have only used them twice, once to take off a spring and then again to put it back on. They scar the shit out of me. I usually buy quick struts anymore, far cheaper and easier to install Please heed my warning. I even think it says in the manual for the darn things to never stand in front or over top a loaded spring.

Another tip is to wrap chain around the spring when compressed - carefully please! Then you can proceed with further disassembly/assembly. The chain assures that the compressed spring can't launch out of the spring compressor. 👍

Love the work as always. Next time you need to press on something like the ABS rings, consider heating them in the oven first. Grease them up like you did, and they should slip right on without risking warping or cracking with a hammer (or a lot less force).

    • @danielprivate7442
      @danielprivate7442 4 ปีที่แล้ว

My man, you're using the same brand base and clear so don't hesitate to do this:
Mix up your base as usual.
Mix a little clear as usual.
      Mix them together thoroughly.
Strain into your gun and shoot as single stage.
This way you don't have a bunch of different paints kicking around your shop. By mixing the base and clear you are making your own single stage. You're gonna save a lot of time in the booth shooting underparts this way. Search "mixing base coat and clearcoat together" and lots of paint manufacturer how-to' pages will come up.

Never seen anyone fit a E46 rack to a e30 before (Although I'm sure it's possible), but I know people have fitted E36 and Z3 racks. Maybe worth a look if you guys haven't already?
Gonna try my hand at making a part from scratch for my E36. A plastic part in the window mechanism broke and you have to buy the WHOLE assembly to fix it. Part: 51331977609
It's just a guide to keep the window upright when it rolls up or down, but it's not a part you can replace. There are 3 plastic guides, but only 2 of them are replaceable parts you can get from BMW. Not having a window that can open has been such a pain here in Africa land...

Your effort level is off the charts!!
But you're working too hard my friend!
Instead of high build, sand, sealer, base, then clear coat...I would recomend black epoxy primer, then black urethane paint.
It is more durable and less work for you. Also, the way you did it, when it starts getting rock chips from road use, the chips will most likely all be grey like the sealer. Its going to drive you bonkers! Ask me how i know...😂🤣
    Great work though!

  • @Mirekeh

Not sure if greasing rubber bushings is a good idea. It looked like you used just some random bearing grease, which is not good for rubber at all.
Using dish soap or silicone grease (for rubber brake components for example) do the same job without ruining your new bushings.

It is interesting to note the differences and similarities between the E30 & E36. I had to change the rear wheel bearings on my E36 and one of the driveshafts was an absolute pig of a job to get out as it was stuck on the hub. In the end, I used the Clarke CHT240 hub puller to get it out. I had to replace my front lower control arms as well. A popular mod on the E36 is to fit E30 lower control arms. I just replaced like for like along with the "lollipop" bushes. This car will be like new once it is done and will add value to an already very desirable M3.

I know you got a lot compliments for adding music to your videos, but I have to disagree. Since video one I'm watching and I absolutely love them. But for me the music makes it a different kind of video. Without it it's more like 'actually beeing in your workshop'. That feelings gets lost when music is added. It also removes that chilly feeling I get when watching.
Maybe you could add some music free scenes or something.
    Much love from Germany ❤️

I hope you turned the rear brake shields, because in your vid you attached the right hand side shield to the left hand side trailing arm.
I wonder where you got the aftermarket springs for the handbrake pads for an E30 M3.
The pins holding the pads are 3mm longer on thhe M3 then the standard E30 parts and you can only get them from the BMW dealer.
Or did you shorten the springs?
I restored some rear axles and converted them to M3 spec, so I got a little experience with them. ;-)

I dont know about the e46 rack, but the rack out of an e85 z4 has a much faster turning radius (2.5 turns lock to lock) than the stock e30 m3 (3 turns lock to lock). The 325is had the same rack as an m3, but all the other e30s had a 3.2 turn lock to lock. Dont take this out of context, but your rear end is lookin pretty good.

You need a brass hammer if you’re going to hammer on ABS rings. A set of brass rods are also handy for automotive work. BTW, great job!

Please never stand in front of a compressed spring like at 8:12. I’ve seen people loose parts of their jaws because of equipment failures. Always make sure you are out of the way in case the spring decides to become part of spaceX.

Im sorta surprised but not surprised at how similar the rear end on the E30 is to the E28/E24
Like a few tabs are different and such but the overall look of it is the same, the diff is the same but with a different cover etc etc

A regular e30 can be had for reasonable money. The 2.5 six is fairly easy to work on, and parts prices aren't too terrible. The six is a far more "drive able" engine as well with torque at lower rpm's. The M3 is a great car, but power doesn't come on until 4500 rpm's... With suspension upgrades, and a few engine "tweaks" the 325i is capable of more than my driving abilities. Cheers!

Hi, good work. Really enjoy your channel.
I would suggest you don’t use gloss black paint on the underbody, it’s not OEM color and deteriorates more than the original Matte color used by BMW.

You generally do not want to install ABS tone wheels with a hammer as you can magnetize the wheel when you hit it. I would have used a press.

Huh, my car (2007 Pontiac sold for $16k brand new, so cheap car) has a hand brake (we call it the e(emergency)-brake, or parking brake) doesn’t have small little drum brakes. It just compresses the calipers in the rear disc brakes.

Hey there! I'm interested to hear your opinion on this. These series' are mainly about full resto, and bringing cars back to their former glory, and I'm loving every episode. You ever thought about perhaps putting your own spin on some of the cars you do? Like perhaps an OEM+ or a track oriented build?

Painting after wire wheel brush is not recommended. Wire brush smoothes out metal surface so ideally it has to be sanded for better adhesion.
