- Ben the chicken was rescued 4 years ago. Recently, she started acting weird and only wanted to sit on eggs. Ben’s mom got her eggs to sit on. One of the eggs hatched and Ben raised an orphaned chicken, named Bing. Ben taught Bing everything he needed to know about being a chicken!

I fell in love with chickens last year when I raised 4 hens myself. They each have distinct personalities and are so fun to watch and sit with. Also, I no longer have to worry about eggs or worry about how the chickens are being treated that are laying my eggs. We're looking to buy a house and I won't look at a property unless I know I can have at least 4 chickens. Chickens are love. Chickens are life.
We had four (backyard hens). We're down to one. Predators and disease culled our tiny flock. The sole survivor spends the nights in the large dog crate, instead of the hen house. She pecks at the sliding back door in the pattern our dogs make when they scratch to come in.
Who knew that:
1. Chickens actually have personality?
2. It's depressing when you lose one?
They're yummy too
They are, I raised them when I was younger and it was so calming to watch them do what chickens do.
scan the neighborhood well.. only takes a few bad apples that let dogs or snakes run around the area to mess up that plan.
When even chicken could teach a thing or two about parenting... Well, hope these two live life to the fullest. :)

I love it when they post chicken content. As an owner of 17 chickens . Chickens are intelligent super sweet loving caring. I feel bad for chickens because where I'm from they're more considered throw away livestock so they don't get that well treated.
It's been years since I last raised chickens. An unforgettable one was named Little Chick-Chick. Even when he was small, he always loved perching on my shoulder and head when I fed him every morning. I always got dirty because of that but as a child back then I didn't mind. I just loved how he was so comfortable with me.
I learned how to carry him in a way where his feet would hang and he could rest comfortably on my hand, which I would lay close to my abdomen. I also learned that chickens like being scratched at certain parts of their head.
He grew up to be a stunning rooster but one time all chickens in my neighbourhood got sick. The thing with Chick2 was, he rested somewhere far every night. In that hat morning though, I saw his dead body on my backyard. He probably felt at his worst and yet he still came to our usual spot every morning. It's as if he was waiting for me, one last time.
Typing this made me remember how much I loved that chicken. Now I'm crying.
Another chicken story I have is of the time when an uncle got drunk. Basically at the same time I noticed that an older sister of Chick-Chick, who I named Chica , was clearly unwell. She did not seem to have right balance, which was odd. I was afraid it was the chicken flu. The young me carried her over somewhere and covered her with some fabric. I remember crying, praying, even using some holy water on her because the young me was so scared of losing her.
The next day, the fabric held no signs of life. She was already gone.
She was walking around very normally in the backyard though. Turns out she thought my drunk uncle's vomit was food and good Chica got tipsy.
There us a hornet removal channel where the guy brings home the nests and feeds them to his chickens. That is alot of protein!

Please change your view on non-human anima, they're not property not slaves, they're living beings. You're not their owner, you're their guardian/parent/friend, anything but owner. And the treatment doesn't matter as the fact that they're bred to be exploited for their eggs and flesh so I hope your hens are rescued and you don't use their bodies for your own needs.
They do this all the time actually, it's very common especially when they're being broody, they'll take anything in as their baby and nest it lol so cute, we had a chicken that preferred the barn kittens 😂🥰

Completely adorable - I stopped eating chicken a while back, and seeing this communication between the 2 of them, I'm glad I did.
I grew up with hundreds of chickens and I never eat them :)

Unfortunately I can't be, tried it and it almost killed me, the sad reality is not everyone can live as a vegetarian or vegan, everyone's body is programmed differently, my blood type and body need meat, craves meat, i physically cannot produce enough iron without it, my doctor and dietician both figured that out again the hard way. I am satisfied knowing the animal lived a good life, yes it died to fuel me and i thank it for that, that's why i only eat meat i know where it comes from and how it died

We need protein , we don't have rumen or other digestive system like other herbivores animals that means we can't get whole protein and nutrients by just consuming plants so we need meat to get other nutrients

It's a gruelling 2 hours with no apologies made for its transparency. It rips you open and makes you question your morals, beliefs and everything you were taught was normal in society... I'm vegetarian since 24 years and since watching this documentary I've sworn to myself to never ever eating any animal products.

My Silkie chicken we use to call her “Big mama” has raised a Brood of all orphaned baby chicken,baby turkeys as well as baby pheasants we are use to getting unwanted male baby birds all summer long and also chicks from nurseries and everytime we use to bring one in & let it run around in hay yard she would go clucking and add the baby in her flock of orphans she was looking after at that time she has managed to rescue adopt 35-40 babies every year in summer and last year was her last as she was 8 years old and calmly and peacefully passed away we have her own biological daughters at farm but nobody is like her , RIP big mama.

To the mother of Ben and Bing. Thank you, you are an ANGEL from God😇. This little hen, can teach us ALL what being a good parent is all about. It made me cry a lot because how millions if not billions of little chicks are deprived of the opportunity to have a mother hen in their lives. Baby chicks are so adorable and defenseless. They need us to stand up for them. To speak up for them. To everyone with a SOUL and a CONSCIENCE. Please consider becoming vegan or at least vegetarian. This can save millions of gallons of waters and hundred of innocent animal life's a year. It can also help with problems such as pollution, deforestation and ultimately global warming.
Let's give the little chicks and all of the animals out there the gift of having a mom and a dad... 😭
Chickens like to be scratch all over their body. Its like grooming them, they really like it. I became friend with our chickens during this ECQ time. Haha. I know its sounds weird. Everytime they see me, its like oh theres our scratcher/groomer, scratch us please, scratch us! My mom thinks I'm crazy and the chickens too....its a rooooster and a hen actually, well, they're both chickens. I think I'm building a chicken parlor or spa one day and charge 1egg for every scratching session. Hahaha
This is so normal for farmers to intentionally manage (broody chickens and their eggs and/or lack thereof), and yet it's adorable for non-farmers to behold that it with a sense of wonder for the very first time
We only have 2 female chickens...one of them went broody on her unfertilised eggs, so I bought 12 fertilised eggs for her to sit on. She didn't give a damn, all eggs are her eggs. I believe 7 hatched, all are her babies, even if they are several different breeds between them. Heck, she'll probably even sit on duck eggs
Little bandy hens are the BEST mothers. My Grandma used to give her a bunch of eggs to brood from the Rhode Island Reds and speckled Domonics to hatch and raise.
I rise chicken's from my childhood they're always special pets for me even i don't have any chicken right now but i always love to watch them. They're like walking dinosaur for me.
It's nothing new here. Before incubators were invented, farmers would use any experienced hens to hatch the eggs of younger hens who had the habit of deserting the nest at inconvenient times. I suppose any hens who stopped laying their own eggs but still had the mothering skills necessary were still useful in this situation. Plus, the chicks would benefit from social interaction from a good mother figure.
This video’s great and all, but this is completely normal and Ben is technically the mother.

We did the same exact thing, but with a goose egg under our chicken. The goose thought she was a chicken and the chicken thought it was her little baby
I am confused.... It seems a shock for this mother hen to act like a mother hen.... I had and still have hens and chickens and cocks and this is absolutely normal....
It is endearing and wonderful, but it is a very normal thing...
There might be exceptions when there are like 10 white chickens and only one black/brown one. Then usually the mother hen rejects that chicken who looks different and even tries to attack him.
Too cool this is why I love Animals so much, sometimes more than humans.

You're not allowing yourself to feel anything, because it would be too horrible to wake up and realize what you're eating has been hatched and raised in, what's basically a meat factory, with no parent chickens, and no love. It has lived for maybe 40-50 days, never seen the Sun or green grass, fed whatever makes them grow the fastest, then had its head chopped off and was gutted, then frozen and sent to KFC.
And if I may stick my beak in, the egg industry is cruel too. The chicks are divided by gender, females to be turned into egg laying machines, the males are either thrown in trash bags or macerated while still alive. This is because the factory farm egg industry deems male chicks "useless" since they don't lay eggs. How repulsive is that?!? To hatch into this world only to be ruthlessly discarded or ground up. People need to know what goes on in the broiler sheds and the egg industry. Some want their scrambled eggs or whatever, but choose to ignore the brutality involved.
