  • I blew out a plug in our old 1999 Ford F250 V10. It is a common/known problem with these engines...let's see if we can repair it at a lesser cost than it would be to take it somewhere to have it done! #fordF250, #fordblownsparkplug, #fordsparkplugrepair
    The kit I used is no longer available BUT CalVAN now makes one and it is linked below:

    That is THE kit to get for this problem. You can apply grease to the reamer to catch more of the aluminum chips and make it cut a little easier, but if you blow everything out with air it's all good.
    Nice work, Marci. This is exactly how a Ford dealer would do it. Great repair and you saved some $$$ !

      thanks so much! Glad to know we got the right kit...I did try to research that a bit to see which one was recommended, etc...seemed to have gotten great reviews... Well I started out watching this because I also have a 1999 f-250 V10, and I heard about the horror stories with the spark plugs. I have 261,000.00 Miles on my little girl and she's been a loyal companion never letting me down, I have had the plugs changed twice & the coil packs changed once.
    Information is always so valuable & I honestly thoroughly loved your video and explanation/training on how to use this Healey -Coil insert tool, . ( if I ever needed to do this job )
    But when I saw your interactions with your son that just melted my heart, praise God what a good mom you are in training your son up to be the un-realized man and father he's definitely going to grow into with gracefulness and loving guidance.
    Your patience and perseverance was once the overwhelming foundation of our country and nation, when you look around today it's beginning to come up a little short and sorely lacking where it surely needs to be in our young people and country.
    May you and your family be blessed immensely, stay safe in these trying times and thank you so much for a over-the-top heartfelt video that was a blessing in disguise.

      Thank you for your kind words, Well...I have to do this job yet again! The one I fixed in this video is this still going strong but I blew another one, the one closest to the firewall so that should be interesting as it is harder to get to! At least I know how to do it! Even tho I routinely check the torque on the plugs I STILL blew one out! ha My little guy is a pretty cool kid! I hope one day he can look back and realize what a crazy momma he had. I have been truly blessed! Thanks again for the comment I truly appreciate it!

      @@marcijunebug makes you wonder why ford didn't put enough meat there in the first place. Aluminium heads needs more in certain places, the valve seat having a stainless steel insert to prevent valve seat recession for one. To only have 3 or 4 threads to hold the spark plugs smacks of a deliberate design fault to give mechanics work.

    This video put a smile on my face the whole time when little one was helping you it's great to be small you can climb all over the engine. I really think it's cool with a woman can work on an engine like you have from what I take your dad talked you the mechanical skills. My dad was the mechanical contractor Plumbing and Heating well and I would go on job sites 7 years old. I thought I was doing a lot of work it wasn't until I got older I was his gopher but he also let me help and show me what to do and the rest of my life it's kind of like yours however not on the engines Wednesday make today they're just too complicated but I think I could do what you have accomplished. One question did you screw in the adapter by using the spark plug. I'm looking to buy a 2002 E 450 I'm wondering if that was the year that they corrected those problems

    • @marcijunebug
      @marcijunebug  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes, the adapter is threaded onto plug, then they recommend and JB weld type fixative on the insert and then thread in to torque spec, then REMOVE the spark plug after setting for 24hrs and reinstall it to torque spec

      yes he IS! I believe they added threads, but I also believe that it is "still" a problem for some engines...sad but often the design looks great on paper, behind a desk...but in practice and under natural stresses one puts a truck under things are different...I was thankful there was an easy fix in kit form available, otherwise I would have had to build my own.

    9:00 metal chips inside the engine after drilling.... Is that problem? It seems like it would be good to try to wash the oil out with a solvent to prevent shavings from getting into the cylinder or the drill should be hollow (no point needed just enlarging the hole and add a vacuum to suck the chips up?

    Company I worked for bought a f350 stake body, we were two hours from home working and on the way there we had stopped for a red light. Truck started running rough, clutch pedal went to the floor and flames came from under the hood close to the cab. Got the fire put out, one of the plugs had blown out and landed on top of the hydraulic clutch line. We were stranded in a little pohdunk town for two days waiting on parts.

They and had plenty of threads. Does anyone know if like after 01 or 02 did Ford fix the issue because I know on 2000 I had to help arc weld a custom insert he had machined. Than years later a couple more went and we bought heli could we took the tap without deburing and rethreaded and than lock tight the adapter and threaded plug in with the heli coil on it. Than backed the plug out and coil stayed in place.

      The first time it happened to us we were also pulling our travel trailer home from northern Indiana! We drove about 3 hours with it just hammering away! ha We DID stop and pull the coil pack so at least it wasn't shooting spark into potentially raw gas lol Pretty easy fix...I'll put it this way I won't ever pay anyone to do one again! ha

    Hope you never have to do the "updated" Ford truck engine. You may already know about this, but the spark plugs break off in the head! My suggestion to Ford would be to make something in between blowing out of the head or breaking off in the head. Split the difference...:-)

      MEE TOO! at least the next one will be "free" if I have to do it again, since I have the kit now to do 5 more! Ford's fix for these is basically exactly what I did, but I think initially their little insert did not have the lip/shelf on it like these do, so I believe that even the fix was a problem! hopefully it is repaired for a while.

    Cut some foam to fit inside you spark plug socket and poke a hole in it for the ceramic part of the plug to grab on to, then you can insert the plug with the socket. I think I would have taped the threads with a socket and hand wrench, broken taps are too hard to remove for me to use power tools tapping a thread. It was nerve wracking for me to watch the tapping sequence.

    • @marcijunebug
      @marcijunebug  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      according to the instructions they do not recommend hand tapping...I TOO would have preferred to do it by hand (they are aluminum heads, so are very very soft, doubt I would have used power tool otherwise...), but having never done it before I was trying to follow the directions to the letter...lol which is something I rarely DO! Women who "behave" rarely make history! lol thanks for foam tip will give that a try sometime...cheers

    Interesting gasoline consumption. Here in Europe, consumption is given as liters per 100 kilometers. If I convert 11 miles per gallon, the consumption is 21.4l / 100km. Accordingly, 100km (62.13 miles) would cost 32.10 euros here in Germany. in other words, a gallon would cost 5.77 euros here instead of in the US where the gallon costs 1.95 euros on average. I am happy that my car only consumes 6 liters of diesel per 100 km (= 6.42 euros), even if I drive 200 km / h (124.3 mph) on the highway 😁.

      @@JamesCouch777 That is the reason why so few us cars are driven here, it is simply expensive. But every better small car can do the 200km / h. The best result I have achieved so far was about 280km / h with a consumption of only 8.5l / 100km with an Audi A6 3.0 diesel quattro with a moderate chip tuning. But driving so fast requires the greatest attention.
      When I was young I also had an Opel with the Chevy V8 engine (5.4l = 330ci), but the beast drank 28l / 100km ☹️.
