  • Cleaning the carbon deposits from a throttle body (2004 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5L engine). This video is for cleaning the throttle body while it is ON the vehicle. Extreme buildup will require removing the throttle body, which this video does not cover (TB removal video coming in the future). Cured rough idling and stalling problem.

Please keep making these 2004 Santa Fe 3.5L videos. I just bought my daughter one & can use all the help I can get. I've had a hard time finding spark plug replacement for this exact model. Thanx again!

+Andrew Stahl A couple of months ago, I took a Saturday afternoon and did all the scenes and shots for front and back spark plug replacement (including moving the plenum, which must be done to get the back ones...it's not bad to do, by the way). Downloaded the scenes from my phone to the computer...sat down to put the video together...and MAN, now I can't find them...they are NOWHERE! Once I download scenes to the computer, I delete them from the phone to make more space. I will redo it in the next couple of weeks. But the bad part is, I also had shots for a power steering pump replacement (which is a PITA, if you don't know how to get to the fasteners)...they're gone, too! I'll redo that one also.

A trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies recently.

You can do this also with no one in the driver's seat by manually controlling the throttle cable by hand. This way you have more control.

True, if the butterfly valve is controlled by cable. However, this vehicle's TB is controlled electronically, with a motor that has gears. Pushing the butterfly valve by hand on this vehicle would strip the gears, meaning having to buy a whole new TB. Thanks for watching!

I just put short broom on the pedal and wedged the other end between the seat and center console. Thanks for the video!

@@GreaseMonkeyFever I am not a mechanic or a gearhead, but I've worked on my own cars. I said to 2 mechanics, asking them if it would damage any gears inside the TB. They said, no it's just a free spinning mechanism with no gears. Yeah right! I guess I know a thing or 3 about something after all! Thank you for making this video for us who do our own work vs relying on mechanic hacks.

Identifix says it should open and close when you turn the key off to acc but it moves choppy normal or no

Would this cause a rough idle, poor acceleration condition. Odd is i have NO stalling issue. On a 2004 2.4L Santa Fe. It idles at about 1000 then settles around 700RPM [ normal?]. New plugs and wires, possible bad cat converter from previous code. Took negative battery terminal off though to reset codes, and no CEL has comeback on in about 3 weeks of daily driving, but symptoms remain. also cracks in exhaust manifold, but car does not over heat. TY

Well now, I see the 2004 Santa Fe is a much cheaper car than my 2002 Santa Fe. For you see I have FOUR clips on my air filter box. That's right FOUR !!!! Try not to be to envious. 😆😆😆

So, when doing this, are we turning the key to the "on" position and depressing accelerator, or actually starting the vehicle?

this not how you should clean the body!

Remove the throttle body so the cleaner doesn’t go into the engine

@@dupedexplained1016but then how do you clean the butterfly plate if you can't move it by hand?!?! Because that would strip the gears in the throttle body motor in this case from manually moving it.

@dupedexplained1016 this is why I have my two cents about electronic vs mechanically operated throttle bodies. Talking about a throw-away part if you even accidentally touch the throttle plate by hand = throttle motor junk = whole new arse throttle body replacement coming your way. Smh

@@dupedexplained1016and I bet a whole new electronic throttle body replacement ain't cheap either!
