    Rus, what amazes me is how you computed all the ingredient amounts for such an enormous pot! It challenges my math abilities. That was very clever to dump ice over the pot to stop the cooking, while simultaneously sinking the seafood into the flavored broth! The timing on this recipe is critical, and you nailed it! Wonderful recipe my friend! I'm glad you restored this from the original!

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ

      I've been doing this for many many years John and learned from my parents. If you don't stop the cooking by cooling the water off fast, then the shrimp will over cook, and become very hard to peel as well. Thanks for watching a old video John! I'm doing a more current "Annual Seafood Boil" very soon :)

    I'm interested in cooking some snow crab legs but I'm not sure how long to cook those for. I don't think they would cook as long as whole blue crabs. Appreciate the help on this topic.

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Snow crab legs are pre-cooked when you buy them, all you need to do is reheat them. Preferably in a seasoned soaking liquid that has your favorite seasoning added. Bring liquid to boil to incorporate the flavors. Kill the fire and let the liquid cool down to around 175 degrees. Assuming the crab legs are still frozen this should drop the water temp down to around 145 degrees once added to the pot. Let legs soak for around 20 minutes to absorb flavors.

    • @joemack4004
      @joemack4004 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SmokyRibsBBQ That's what I needed to know. I can throw them in right after my shrimp then to reheat. Then I'll use the boil boss to bring temp to 150 and I'm set.

    Do you find the volume of water or the volume of food is more important when determining the amount of boil power and liquid to use?

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically if you start with enough water for the amount of food your cooking and season it properly then the rest will take care of itself. If you are adding in a lot of veggies such as potatoes then you do want to make sure your seasoned water has enough salt to allow for them. Best way is to just taste it.

      Yeah, I see your point, and yes, you actually would need to allow the other ingredients to cook longer regardless if your using crabs or not. If not your potatoes, mushrooms, etc. may not be quite tender enough. You could always just check them before adding the shrimp to make sure they are cooked.

    ALL THIS SHIT WOULDN'T EVEN FIT IN MY BATH TUB!! Haha what pot and burner are you cooking out of? I really like it and would like to get one. All of your recipes look amazing. I like the way you cook and season.

    I'm sold. Nothing for me to change. My question is the BTU of the burner. I have asked others but they never/haven't said. I want a higher BTU. Cheers.

      You need to find a 210K BTU burner. I just listed one that I have in my Amazon Store. Just look in the description box for the link. Lowe's also sells them.

    Looks great. I have always used the bag of crab boil. Can you notice a difference? My mom always swore by the bags over the liquid

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like using powdered crab boil along with liquid and the flow through bags. If you look real close you will see a couple of flow through bags in this boil. I forgot to mention it in the video, but the largest amount of boiled used is powdered and liquid

    Great video! I'm doing my first seafood boil this weekend, and I have two questions. What size pot are you using (I have a 120 quart pot) and when would I add crawfish, same time as crabs?

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm using a 120 quart and yes at the same time as I did the crabs should work out fine.

    Hey Rus,
    I have never experienced a seafood boil like yours but after watching a few of your videos and the one with Adam (Abom79), its is definitively on my list of things to try.
    Thank you for sharing and I look forward to your next cook.
    God Bless to your neighboring folks in Texas and Louisiana.
    Take care!

    This vid is hands down the best Country Boil tutorial on YT! Much appreciated! Gonna do this for my daughter’s bday next month. Question: I’ve got an 82 quart boiler. How far do I fill it up w/water & will one (1) four lb bag of the Fish Bone seasoning suffice or should I go with the additional half bag you used in the vid? Just wanna be sure I order enough. Thanks again for the thorough & informative video friend 🙏

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to fill the pot up halfway with water. I used a 120 quart pot in this video, so one 4 pound bag of seasoning should be about right in your 82 quart pot, but really up to your taste as well.

    • @jortiz6509

      Smoky Ribs BBQ Much obliged Chef Jones. Appreciate the prompt response. Also wanna apologize for referring to the boil seasoning as “Fish Bone” instead of Frog Bone. I’ve done a seafood boil on my Traeger smoker “pan style” w/much success but this’ll be my 1st attempt in an actual boiler. Wish me luck!

      +Albert Anderson you have a 30 gallon or 30 quart?

    • @albertanderson5895
      @albertanderson5895 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smoky Ribs BBQ & Southern Cuisine 30 quart, I'm sorry

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Albert Anderson Well that's only going to hold 7.5 gallons of water and of course you have to allow for everything that goes in the pot. I usually fill my pots up about half way, so you should be ok with 4 gallons of water or maybe a tad under that.

    Well I'm sure I Iiked your fist version Rus, no reason not to like this one! Man that is one big boil, and I do love 'em! Lovely fresh head on shrimp!
    Big fan of Conecuh sausage too.Never added mushrooms though, food for thought indeed, as they are very receptive to seasonings. Never tried the ice thing either, very instructive. I add my shrimp at the end and let them go mere minutes, so very surprised to hear you say you can leave 'em in for hour or so! Hmm, seems this technique is something I must try.
    If you were make a much smaller boil would you adjust the cook times for any ingredient? I'm thinking likely not much, if any at all.

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Randy! Nothing I like better than boiled shrimp. Conecuh sausage is a must any time I do a boil. Just goes perfectly with it. Mushrooms are a personal preference but they are always in my boils as well. Yeah, the ice works very well. Just make sure you add enough seasoning at the beginning to allow for the extra water as the ice melts. I always get them back to a rapid boil, kill the fire, and ice them until the water reaches 150°F The shrimp will stop cooking and start absorbing all that great seasoning in the water. Hope you give that a try brother! BTW, I'm planning a new boil video soon, showing another method to cool the water down quickly without adding ice so stay tuned ;)

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ

      No, not near enough for a seafood boil. Get a dual jet burner for $40. It puts out 210,000 BTU. You have to be able to get your water back to a boil fast after putting in the seafood.
