I know right? With the commentary and the soundtrack, it almost feels like something played in a high-stakes heist film. Racing against the clock to pull off the score of the century!
The music was composed specifically for this sequence by a musician named Will Slater. Looks like Slater primarily composes stock music for corporate videos and documentaries, etc. You can definitely hear Prodigy, Photek, Fluke, Chemical Bros, et al., influences. I wish BBC had released this with their soundtrack, because I'd love to have it on my playlist!
I may be 6yrs too late, but I just watched this episode & became obsessed with this music. Thought it sounded like Prodigy. Here’s a link that you can add to a playlist 😉 th-cam.com/video/pR3esRNCnWc/w-d-xo.html

+Romano Coombs if you're ever inclined to, may I suggest you get a book on ants. I have one but I can't think of its name right now, anyway, they are BEYOND fascinating. The true masters of the Earth
Also ant workers tend to live only a few months, and the eldest are the ones actually going out and scavenging. The rest stay inside tending to the queen, brood, and making tunnels. Ants also use their sense of smell a lot for communication, maybe the desert heat is making it harder for scents to stick and get smelled? usually an ant lets off a scent that declares there is food here, so more ants follow the trail and pick up more.
How did the camera crew stand in these heat to film the ants? Amazing camera settings and thank you all for the hard work, never seen such dazzling creature in my whole life, silver ants!
@@lxvmiles9846 Oh my, another joke-impaired person! You forgot to say that vampires are actually mithological creatures that don't, in fact, really exist.
was gonna say the same, hilarious . also earlier in the vid, the chick goes "its quite difficult to count a second innit?" and he goes " no, its "one"."
That is because the silver-ant hairs do exactly that, their hairs have a nano structure that reflects sunlight but radiates heat in the window open to the cold of space :)
Well now i know what i wanna watch today lmao thanks. Great movie and great story by vin diesel! He doesnt get enough writing credit for the riddick series

3:05 this is like 2 dudes finding a huge truck filled with solid gold bars, and pushing it home in 130 degree sun 5 miles while running barefoot at top speed. Think about that.
1-4: The Sahara Desert is dry because it has a water deficit (more water leaves than arrives). The Sahara Desert is surrounded by water (Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea) but the water does not hydrate the landmass. Water is kept out of Sahara by mountains along oceanfront. The minuscule amount of moisture eventually exits the Sahara Desert to the south and east as it is blown on the wind. Because of the preceding; Sahara is expanding to the south as evidenced by the now dry Lake Chad.

I was going to look up the latest action movies on Netflix then I found this. I don't need Netflix now. David Attenborough's voice and the close up photos of these nasty bugs have me on the edge of my seat!
Those ants have one hell of a theme song
Made me think of the Matrix theme song for some reason.
I was thinking the same thing, still cool however...
Cuz they are fucking bad-ass
hell ya they are!
a retrieve mission by special soldier 😂
I like how they included the efforts of the filming crew, who go to extreme lengths for getting the perfect shots.
That soundtrack of the silver ants is dope
can't disagree

The morning's the best time for reverse sunsets.
I don't know how much those guys make, but they deserve a raise.
The ants or the film crew?
Ants make nothing. True communism, Marx would be proud... also why it doesn't work in humans

They deserve prime real estate on TH-cam's front page. This is better than any hollyweird production.

Ants:”it’s time to get funky”
So many ants and only 3 of them carrying that huge fly, what kind of teamwork is that?

Well those arent the ones getting promoted. Lazy's stay at entry level positions.
Henry more ants can't move due to lack of space

realy hope international situations geting better and better so we can see it by our own eyes
they where probably dying and put a lot on the line to get this footage
Nix Lam they camp out with tents, fans, Portable fridges, etc, they're usually well equipped and comfortable
Yeah it's really not so bad
I'd do it for free if necessary just to be out there lol
That was the most intense ant footage I've ever seen in my life.
Good. Now I'll find some bullet ants and let them mate with these silver ants so that I won't worry about vampires any more.
illusiwind really bullet ant did you just go there
They don't mate like that they lay eggs

The editors didn’t put the music in it was happening in real time since the ants activated a mission in the system
Love how these ants have organic versions of the silver heat suits that volcano scientists and some steel plant workers wear
Nature is the true engineer.
Hardworking men and women for these amazing camera shots, thank you.
Let us all not ignore the effort made by this crew to document this awesome scene
Hello world 2019-2020
I never knew silver ants existed till i saw this... They're pretty...
Farima Sultani they even golden ones
I looked up Photonic Radiative Cooling and found this instead. It's not exactly what I was looking for. But fucking cool nonetheless.

True dat😁
Those silver ants look like CGI. Its tripping me out.
Asere Tripwood have you seen the gold horses? They look even more cgi!!!
"dude, what are you doing? we got to find something to film!"
"yeah, i know, Im filming these ants"
also, they have shitty silver armour, they should upgrade
This guy's voice is the best, always makes me chuckle ,love him
Awesome! Thank you, BBC! Thanks to Sir David and crews!

Thank you for providing us the interesting content despite the burning heat.
I love behind the scenes footage, these people do all this work, weeks worth of work for a 5 minute piece. That's dedication and loving ur job.
Sir David Attenborough and the teams who make these vids possible, you will never be forgotten
David is rarely on site. His voice over can be done anywhere. If you don't see him he isn't there 😊
@@drips1030 Not surprised he wasn't on site, he was an old fella when this was made, you don't need to be on site to do commentary.
Thanks Camera Crew!!
You guys are amazing for taking that much time just to film something like that. You guys are true photographer
the new chronicles of Riddick looks sick!!
First time I've heard David Attenborough's voice mixed with pulsing metal.
Amazing, thank you sir for the video, the effort is beyond imagination

Thanks for the effort.
absolutely beautiful camerawork!
"johnny didn't make it".
honestly a better action scene than any action movies 2019
That was amazing. Seriously awesome cinematic
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!
Interesting they wait for their food to get heatstroke then collect the bodies. Clearly these ants adapted this strategy from playing Rimworld.
Free food and expensive organs to trade. Nice deal all around, hope the space trader has some good stuff for the ants.
Mad Max Fury Road: miniature scale
This kinda blows me away in a Trippy like way..Beautiful! It's been a while
The soundtrack on this documentary is better than most movies soundtracks!
would be a kick-ass track for the execution of a heist, a major score. Or maybe for a surgically planned military strike of rescue mission.
I can see them all saying: "GO GO GO GO!"

I Love the sound effects and music choice 😂 it's great
I like that the whole "time is precious" thing is said while an ant looks like it's just standing there preening. Should've done that before you left

Imagine the voice actors lips making that cheesy squelch sound effect that they added when the lizard licks its lips.
