Imagine coming across this place while you were dying of dehydration. I think I'd laugh maniacally then start chasing/eating flies.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the cameramen who had to film those flies...

I miss watching documentaries like this on discovery channel, now it's plagued with overhauling shows and survival reality shows

Man, that lake is like something out of a nightmare! Imagine being lost in the desert, and you come across this. Forced to eat flies while the waves tempt you to drink the salty water.

It's like going to the beach and there's nothing but cherries, grapes, and strawberries flying around. Maybe some pineapple squares.

We're so lucky that we grew up listening to this great man's voice and watching his documentaries.

I lived in the Sahara for a while and it was all like this; everything was beautiful, but designed to inflict misery and death. During the day the heat was unbearable; then, at night it got frigid. During the hot season I once got a temperature reading of 140F. After the hot season came dust storms that could make the daytime look like nighttime. Next came the rains which brought dangerous flooding and clouds of insects. Bugs, however, were actually less of a problem than thorns, which came in every size and seemed to be produced by every single plant. The sand came in these amazing colors that formed gorgeous dunes; unfortunately, it got into everything and made both walking and driving difficult or impossible. As far as water was concerned, there was never enough, getting it usually involved a great deal of work, as did making it safe to drink, a process which typically took days.
