  • How do subterranean cities of ants look like? 10 tons of cement were required to fill the wholes and tunnels. Then it took weeks to uncover the secret megalopolis of the ants. With the help of mechanical diggers, brazilian scientists removed tons of earth. At last, the scientists begin to see the structure of the city state.

We managed to kill our home ants this year. They were living in between two layers of old and new balcony tiles. Once we renewed our balcony tiles and destroyed their nest, they disappeared from anywhere inside the apartment also.. which is great. We tried everything before that - all sorts of poison, substances, leaving meat and then killing swarms, filling in any holes etc. The only thing that worked was destroying the nest. We couldn’t see the queen, but we think she probably died without us realising in the works..

I said this back when I was younger that ants would take over if they were bigger. My friend told me, and it made a lot of sense, "Ants really aren't that smart though". Now let's unpack this. If we were going to war with ants, all they would do is send tons and tons and tons of ants to fight. Ants are a "Hive mind" creature. Although very fascinating, most of what they do is instinctive. There would be no strategy on the side of the ants besides sending thousands/millions of their own to fight till there would be none left. They wouldn't strategize amoungst themselves on how to take us out.

That thing belongs in a museum. You could tag and identify each peice and section, make a map of how every peice fits together, perhaps laser scan it for proper alignment, then break it up into manageable peices for later assembly. It would be a huge undertaking though, the support system for everything would be rather complex.
