    Due to a mix of allergies and anxiety I started having difficulty swallowing and becoming overly conscious of it. It didn’t feel like food was getting stuck, but rather that the physical moving of my tongue was just tight and not smooth. Like i forgot how to do it. After just one session of this video I felt immediately relief and my overall facial tension feels significantly lower. Gonna keep doing these until the tension goes away. WOW!

    Dr. Adam,
    My deepest thanks and gratitude to you for providing these videos for FREE! I am a professional singer and voice coach (and also a sufferer of sleep apnea), and just recently understood how much restriction and tension has been saddled in my throat and swallowing muscles. These exercises have provided immediate relief that I have not felt before now. I will be singing your praises, in more ways than one, to my students and colleagues. I'm about to perform my debut role with Portland Opera, so this came at the perfect time! Thank you, thank you , THANK YOU!

    Oooooh thank you Adam so much for your exercises. I've tried so many things, Qi gong, Feldenkrais, massages, cold showers...., grandmas tips, professional help.... and honestly your videos helped me so efficiently and so quickly. I think that was the missing part. It's just a joy to experience voice/body freedom again thanks to your exercises. I'm confident that by following them regularly I will no doubt go back now to were I used to be, happy, stressless, radiant and connected to myself and the world. Anyway, I just meant a HUUUGE thank you for your precious help... THX!!!

    Loving this Adam. And Courtney is the best! I work on voice (singing, declamation, guided meditations, etc..), and when seeing this wonderful last one on throat tension release (which is fantastic), I just thought to myself... Wouldn't it be amazing if they did a video on voice warm-ups voice health? I know of course most exercises there, but I just thought that with the warm & elegant way in which you share your knowledge, a lot of people, who are not voice professionals, would follow your advice. I just see so many people using their voice in straining ways.. Anyways just a thought from a Manhattan admirer of your work! Thanks always

    THANK YOU!!! I had the ACDF surgical procedure over a year ago. I have some serious issuesafterwards with Dysphagia and Aspiration and dry heave on food\pills daily. I fear that aspiration pneumonia is upcoming if I don't do something!
    The ENT's I consulted with didn't recommend any type of treatment or personal therapy. The only advise I got was chew food well, drink a lot of liquid with each bite, and eat my meals absorbed in no other external stimulus (watching TV and eating....ect) I'll whole heartedly perform exercises multiple times daily. It would be nice to feel like I'm not chocking after eating and running out of breath when swallowing liquid.

For the exercise where the tongue goes to the roof of the mouth with the tip at the ridge below the teeth and the head is turned with holding the breath, do you relax the tongue from the roof of the mouth with the exhale and "Aaaahh"? Or keep it in place on the roof of the mouth and just drop the jaw?

    Firstly a big thank you for all your videos Adam, they have been core in me working through a really stressful period of my life. One thing I am still struggling with is my thyroid cartilage. If I grab and move it in cracks and crunches and clicks and when looking up and stretching it it feels really tight on my adams apple. Should I just keep doing the throat and neck videos or is there anything else I can be doing? I am recently separated and not working so not talking as much. I am still managing social connections but wondered if not using my voice as much as a negative impact on my parasympthetic NS given that I think talking is obviously central to social connection. Should I try humming more? Thanks in advance 🙂

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alex
      The separation is an extreme stress that can set the stage for myofascial trigger points. The key is relaxation and then the muscle work.
      Just throwing this out there:
      If is a marriage that could possibly have even a little hope, I recommend retrouvaille. It's all over the world, inexpensive and helps reclaim intimacy in a wonderful way. It is Catholic but not too Catholic-ish. More about couple-ness.
      I know this may not apply to you. Just putting it out there.

      I see that a lot in my chiropractic practice and do some of the massage and mobilization techniques in these videos and have had some good results. However, i can't comment on your exact situation as i have never evaluated your hyoid bone. Keep up the videos and if your aches go away and your hyoid still clicks a bit, you may consider that a victory.

      I can't comment on your specific situation as I have not examined you myself. However, do 2 videos/day and work on relaxation. I know it's hard when you are stressed about swallowing but you have to find a peace in the storm. Prayer, meditation, getting in nature, etc. If you are worried there may be something worse going on, see a healthcare provider.

      I think it could be a part of an overall rehab process but this is not a stand-alone treatment for that person. They will need a speech therapist to help reroute the parts of the brain that have been compromised. I would get on a plethora of brain supplements also.

    My neck starts spasming when I do the exercise at 6:55. Like all the muscles under my jaw start firing and releasing, like they are being hit with a TENS unit. It doesn't hurt, it literally feels like it's being stimulated and the muscles jump in a rhythmic way. I almost want to record it.

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of possibilities. Make sure your ears are over your shoulders when you are doing the exercises as poor posture could flare up your neck and occipital area. Also, have a attitude of relaxation as tension and overexertion can irritate trigger points. You may want to see a chiropractor.
