  • Dry Eye Syndrome or Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca is, simply, when you have chronically dry eyes. Accompanying symptoms would be eye irritation, redness, discharge, and eyes that get tired easily. Blurred vision can be another problem for people who suffer from Dry Eye Syndrome.

The hope for you with these exercises and acupuncture points for Dry Eyes is that you can do this instead of artificial tears or eye drops. Even though they can be good in a pinch, frequent use of these products can make your eyes drier in the long run because they can wash away your eye's natural lubricants. Be careful of eye gels, artificial tears and drops that "take the red out". Only once in a while when you really need it. Otherwise, try these eye exercises to help bring your own innate lubrication onto the surface of your eye.
A lot of these acupuncture points, which you will be massaging or putting sustained pressure on, are based on a 2010 study from Acta Ophthalmologica. This is a peer-reviewed medical journal of ophthalmology. The study is Acupuncture for Treating Dry Eye: A Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial. There were some positive findings in the the tear film break-up time (BUT) after 3 weeks.
Realize these were people who had chronic Dry Eye Syndrome. Many of you may have dry eyes from allergies, pregnancy, vitamin and mineral imbalances, post surgical dry eye, medications like antihistamines, antidepressants or blood pressure meds or conjunctivitis that might not have reached a chronic state. Let's see if this helps chronically dry eyes and those of you who just have an occasional or seasonal flare of irritated eyes.
You are now a study of your own body. Try this video and give it some time. Let me know how it goes. I wish I could put a guarantee on it but this going to be an adventure for both of us.

Am 79, had severe itchy eyes, kept trying new eye drops. Ophthalmologist suggested I go to a dermatologist and dismissed my desperation with a wave of his hand. 2 weeks ago I found you. The day I tried this exercise my eyes had an “oily” feeling and my eyes stopped itching, didn’t feel like sandpaper, etc and dumped the eye drops. After several years of itchiness my eyes feel reborn. It’s a miracle. I visit you every day. Thank you!!!!

Yes, dry eyes are from your glands. This can be caused by fungus as well. I use eye wash, just like you would find at an emergency eye station in a lab. It's cheap, just purified water and an eye cup. This is instant relief with no chemicals.

This is incredible I had severe soreness in my neck without realizing it. For the past week I have been self diagnosing myself and the quality of my sleep. Nothing worked.
I probably keep my eyes open during sleep or have a bad pillow and my neck stiffens. This exercise gave me back some lost energy due to eye strain. Thank you so much.

Found myself here to relieve red eyes.
Day 1 - Did this video and felt instant relief. Eyes still red though.
Day 2 - Forgot to do this video. Eyes still red.
Day 3 - Forgot to do this video. Eyes still red.
Day 4 - Did this video and felt instant relief that lasted maybe 2 minutes. Eyes still red.
Day 5 - Did this video and felt slightly less relief that lasted maybe 1 minute. Eyes still red.
Day 6 - Forgot to do this video. Eyes still red.
Day 7 - Forgot to do this video. Eyes still red.
Day 8 - Did this video and felt instant relief that lasted maybe 5-10 minutes. Eyes teared up a LOT and still red but seem less red.
Day 9 - Came here to say that my eyes have finally felt the most relief in weeks. They're still red, but not as red. They still itch and are watery, but not as watery. The itchiness is the only remaining issue that's moderate.
Day 10 - Did this video and felt minimal relief and I've had a headache for a couple hours. However, eyes are less watery and less red than when I started. Still itchy and I started using Alaway eye drops for itchiness and watery relief just yesterday. It helps with the wateriness for around 4 hours but I'm making sure to only use them twice a day.
Day 11 - Came here to day that my eyes feel 90-99% healed! I woke up with the same crusty eyes that result from the tear buildup overnight and about 30 minutes later I used Alaway eye drops for the 3rd day today. About 4-5 hours later, I now feel normal for the first time in literally all of August! My eyes are not white but they definitely feel white! The only remaining symptom I feel is the tiniest bit of wateriness in the left corner of my left eye. That is it! I will be updating for sure tomorrow because it could return.
Day 12 - Will edit and update.
Gonna note some things here that I've learned through this process...
Tip 1 - The most important tip I can give right now is simple, time! Time is in my opinion the #1 contributor to 100% healing from this eye issue, if not ALL similar issues throughout your body! Remember this and it will make dealing with it a little easier.
Tip 2 - The less you rub your eyes the better! No matter how much they itch, do NOT rub them. You can still meticulously massage them in ways shown in this video but do NOT rub them the way I know you know what I'm talking about. This is one of the most important things that has helped me.
Tip 3 - When your eyes are red and/or itchy and/or inflamed, the less you stare at monitors/TVs/devices the better! This I believe to be a major contribution to keeping your eyes red and itchy and dry. I used to think staring at displays is what caused my red, dry, itchy eyes in the first place but it's not. It is what KEEPS them red, dry, red, watery, etc, etc.
Tip 4 - The air. And everything in it. This I believe to be a major contribution to red, dry, itchy, watery eyes. There's pollen, dust, mold, pet dandruff, etc, etc in the air that gets into the eyes and causes this to happen in the first place. And when your eyes become really red and really dry, just walking around you can feel the air literally soaking up into your eyes. So imagine all the things that are in the air, everywhere you go. Even the temperature or pressure or speed of the air itself hitting your eyes causes issues.
So basically, take all these tips and do with them as you see fit and your eyes will magically start to feel better. The exercise videos like this one do help as well, just take them very seriously and massage your eyes the correct way. It does help.

@@TryMe749 Oh gosh, it's been over a year now and I've switched to iVIZIA eye drops. They don't sting as much as Alaway(this has that preservative in it so use it minimally and for allergy purposes like pollen or mold or pet dandruff), but iVIZIA doesn't have that bad preservative in it so you can use it often. Alaway feels like it's doing a lot of good things when I do use it but I've been sticking to iVIZIA and it's doing a good job. IMO the season of when winter turns to spring is when my eyes are the worst so keep that in mind too. I limit how much I use eye drops but iVIZIA is really great and can be used a good 2-6 times a day, I stick to 1-2 a day around just 2-3 times a week. My eye doctor recommends using them constantly so that your eyes stay lubricated and get back to normal.

Found you through your videos on TMJ-exercises a few months back. Had a bit of a flare-up with my TMJ and came back to do the exercises again. Upon finishing, this video pops up as a recommendation. I have been suffering from dry eyes since my teens and considering how well your TMJ-videos have helped me it was a no-brainer that I'd come to check this out as well. I have to say that although this is my first time trying these exercises, my eyes already feel more relaxed and not as irritated as they were just a few minutes ago. I look forward to continue to try these exercises out and see what will happen in the long term! I feel like I should spend a day going through all of your videos to see what else you can help me fix, haha. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. They are incredibly helpful! Thank you. I've had six acupuncture treatments for dry eye and my dry eyes kind of stabilized, but your exercises and pressure point massage has kicked my recovery into a higher gear. Very helpful. My eye doc wanted me to do botox therapy to relax muscles around my eye, I don't think that would be necessary now, and I didn;t like the sound of that anyway. My condition has been chronic...4 years. I'm hoping I'll continue to improve over the next few weeks. I'm doing these exercises 3 or 4 times day. Also, I am able to use the ceiling fans again in my house. It took quite a bit longer for the itching to subside, but the itching is so much better. Just keep doing the exercises, it took a few days to notice a difference and each day my eyes got a little better. I have only been doing them for a few weeks and the difference is remarkable. I'm lucky enough to find your video here Dr. Fields. I'm suffering from dry eyes aside from glaucoma and contact dermatitis from the assortment of eye drops that I'm using. SPK became a normal feature too so I'm desperate for a cure. I've tried the exercise you've featured here and in 4 sessions, my eyes seem to open- up wider. I always have edema in my upper and lower eyelids. I'm.using Restasis, applying warm and cold compress regularly, and adding your exercise to my daily routine. Thank you very much doc.

Interesting. My eyes were mostly dry throughout the exercises, but then the oils started to flow immediately after. I’ve been treating my dry eyes for 4 years now and Have tried everything but acupuncture. May have to seriously consider this after trying these acupressure exercises.

@@hrpim9262 I don't remember, but I continued doing it for several days and also tried to stretch other parts such as neck, the jaw muscles and any kind of muscle that I felt was too tense. I realized it happened because of too much stress/tension..So I was trying to do things that made me feel more relaxed in general!
I hope you feel better soon! 👐
