It happens. I play everything but SnS, as it feels too slippery in Worldborne/Risebreak.
I used to LOVE it in 4u, and the oil system helped a ton. But I love HH probably because back when I started in 2008, I had to teach myself most of the game, and could only effectively use GS for my first 3 years... the side effect of that being I am VERY quick to notice tells and gauge time/speed for years afterwards, it feels good to be able to see seconds into the future and dance around in front of a monster, simultaneously dodging with minimal movement, getting bid damage numbers, boosting teammates if in a squad, and KO/exhausting.
Also, HH players are rare, so I enjoy showing up for people like some kinda unicorn.

@@slimfastsubaru2043 wait, you're actually right! And i'm not wrong at all!, but it seems they erased that mechanic for this 5th gen, i've searching in rise/World then 2nd and 3rd gen MH an i found that it was at Hunter notes for MHFU that sns was always cheaper to upgrade compared to the others it was a highlight for the weapon alongside with using consumables while unsheath , and this rule apply for 2nd and 3rd gen MH ( i don't have 4th gen MH games so i couldn't search) then for the 5th gen world and rise they did differently in each one, for example World is the same materials depending on the Rarity weapon no matter which weapon type. But then Rise changed it again, and now it seems light weapons like sns and dual blades require less materials in quantity and heavy weapons require a lot more of materials, usually all weapons types in the same rarity require the same rarity materials but a lot more quantity for example a sns or db can ask for 2 hides and 2 bones while a SA,CB, GS and Hammer can require 4 of each plus 2 or more types of materials. And something in the middle like a LS or glaive requires more than light weapons but less than heavy weapons, so it's seems they got rid of that characteristic from sns and they have now re balanced all crafting for all weapons. (Note that English is not my language so i do apologize for any mistakes in the text).

What you said at the end is so true. What makes monster hunter so special is freedom of expression for the players through the weapons.
I was just saying to my partner last night like I was doing a MR arena Brachadios and 3 hunters joined me. All 4 of us were using different weapons. And I said to her, this is what is so special about MH: we all are doing unique things, no mic’s, international players all working together to take down a monster. It’s a special game

don’t be discouraged to try each weapon for a little bit and don’t be afraid to switch if something isn’t clicking. Whether you’re a one trick, or love testing everything, just remember to have fun.

I have to say thank you for giving the Lance its proper respect. It was one of the final styles i learned in the series thanks to Generations, and your description is perfect.
It is NOT flashy, but it gets the job done SO well, and the ability to be so accurate with your hits and just ALWAYS in the monster's personal space is not something most players really understand. It is NOT slow. Base walk-speed doesn't automatically indicate what a weapon does or is capable of. Kudos.
I've taken a few months off Hunting to clear some backlog from up to 20 years ago, and seeing videos like this has me itching to go back year after year.

As an SnS player, just wanna note that the shield block is better than you might think. Just started this game (and any MH gane for that matter) last weekend. For me, the Insect Glaive has been my favorite of all the weapons. Staying above the monsters' attacks, mounting regularly, and having no issue smacking the flying monsters made it an obvious choice for me. Next in line for me is the Charge Blade. Took a minute to learn exactly how to work it, but after I did, I think it's awesome charging it up in one "stance" and having to switch to unleash all its energy. Finally, my third choice is the Hunting Horn. I've always enjoyed playing support roles, though.

So I tried all other weapons and long story short I am now an eternal great sword user, it feels like I need to really observe and study the creature as I'm fighting it, and the weapon is secondary, but it still feels super satisfying and badass when you pull off something good.

Started my MH journey with Rise and played with Dual Blades all the way through. Went back to do world and am halfway through iceborne having done purely switchaxe and falling in love with it. More methodical play styles that take more thought and have more intricacies, while being flashy.
Really want to do full playthroughs with other weapons like the chargeblade, insect glaive, and gunlance. Maybe others but those look up my alley.

Bows are an absolute grind to get (Since it's an elemental weapon and you need a build for each element) but if you get the full build, surprisingly bow becomes the highest DPS weapon and most used for solo speedruns.

I tend to use some of the weapons.
I mainly use bowguns, insect glaive and SnS. Out of sheer competency I think I am the best with insect glaive, over time you learn to run around the monster and flicking your kinsect to get the essences, takes me almost no time to get set up with it. Yesterday I started my 2nd playthrough of world and decided to use the charge blade, everything dies too quickly for my liking lol im very use to watching the monster and using items a lot that a lot of these high damage weapons just dont do it for me, unless I am farming for materials lol.

I think the best is to play everything, ofc not everyone will like all weapons but those who do, is just give you even more content, was a main Bow in World until base game late game when I tried GS just to see and was so magical, changing weapons felt like I was playing another game, so since them I try to play multiple weapons, trying to do it on Sunbreak but the late game farm is so overwhelm that I lacking the will to make so much builds, but after hitting a wall with DB (need to levelup anomaly for new materials), maybe I'll make some bow/bowguns to hunt monster that love to flying all the time easier (I talking about you rath family).

I started my Monster Hunter journey on the Playstation 2 using the Great Sword. This continued into the PSP series. On Monster Hunter Tri and tried various weapons but always came back to GS. On World again, i mixex it up a lot but regularly used LBG.
Monster Hunter Rise on Switch I completed the "story" with Hunting Horn and then went on to Bow. MH Rise PS5 I only played Long Sword and got to AR 200+.
I still dont have a clue what weapon I like the most 😢. I need to make a decision for Monster Hunter Wilds. Im thinking maybe a combo of Dual Blades and Bow.

The best advice I can give for finding your weapon is to just try all of them. Test them in the training area. Do a hunt with them to see if you like the playstyle.
I never thought I'd like gunlance until I just tried it and pretty quickly had more hunts on it than any other weapon.

better title for me: “which other weapon is good for you besides long sword” cause I feel like the long sword is making me get into bad habits of just spam attacking and then getting hit. I want to try to remember to counter with the right stick + B move, but I always end up needing to use it in the middle of spirit slash 3 (or whichever the one is that does like 4 or 5 slashes which locks me into animation)
So I wanna try something else. Bow looks fun but I wanna do that in my next play through of world, I wanna master melee this time

Having played a few different weapons, my favorite is still Lance. It’s just so good at keeping uptime. Second has to be the SWAX! It’s just so flashy and really fun to play. Then my secret favorite weapon, the Hammer. But the weapon that’s most difficult to master has to be the CB. Just so many things to manage at once, it’s not a very good weapon for beginners.

The real beauty of the franchise is the fact that there is weird playstyles like the blunt LS where you do blunt dmg on unsheathe attacks like the AI attacks. And full support or full berserker HH styles. There really is unlimited ways to play this blessed series of amazing games.

If you are playing LS as a noob please understand your job is to slice the tail then aim for the legs for monster trips. Going for the head has a very high chance to screw over the hammers and great swords. Your moves do knock down allies and it stops their charged moves and combos. I main long sword, bit am good with all weapons but the lance.

I'm really struggling picking a weapon I like in world. Rise was my first MH game, so I got used to the more arcadey playstyle of blast dash gunlance. Everything feels slower and off to me (despite being a more accurate style of monster hunting). Been playing Lance and SA a lot, but neither fully click for me like BD GL in rise. IG is pretty cool in both.

Dual blades main here! I agree with most of what you said, but with the exception of “easy to play.” Dual blades are fairly easy to pick up but I would say are some of the most difficult to master. Not quite longsword levels but close. The range is so short that you have to be ridiculously close and aggro and that just does not work for some creatures, especially in MR. Otherwise, you nailed it!

Insect Glaive will always be my true love in this series. Until we get the Tonfa that is. The IG is the 1 weapon that makes me feel like I’m always in control. I could choose whatever body part I want to break, I can mount monsters consistently, I can stun & sever tails, & it makes me feel like a martial arts master.

I started out with Longsword back in base World and Icebrone, tried ChargeBlade, SwitchAxe, GS, Hammer and DualBlades. Now, comming back to MHW Iceborne as I tried Rise and didn't like it, I began trying all the weapons in Iceborne and to my surprise I LOVED the HuntingHorn, especially the safi one where you could even customize the songs u get on it. But my main actually became the LANCE. This weapon is incredible. I did a "speed run" test to see how fast I could solo Tempered Ruiner Nergi with all my full fatalis builds on 4 weapons: GS, HAMMER, DualBlades and Lance and to my surprise I got by far the fastest time to kill on Lance. Its incredibly underated and quickly became my favourite weapon. Its suprisingly mobile thanks to its charge so u can chase the monster easy without sheathing and you can stick to its head like glue due to the amazing defence. You don t have to wait for openings like with others. And I can't tell you how satisfying it is to get the perfect cluch counter or normal counter every time you get attacked. This weapon is AMAZING. Long story but I LOVE THIS GAME and can't wait for Wilds to come out. Sitting at 600hours in Iceborne now. Will go over 1k till then most def.

I think in relation to favorite weapons, it depends a lot on the Monster : say I'm hunting an Odogaron, Dual Blades is gonna be hella fun, almost like a Dragon Ball fight where we're both zipping around the arena all over the place
But with Heavy Bowgun I'm just gonna get bodied before i can even say "reloading, cover me !"
