been tinkering with Bow in the beta since my main is Swaxe ever since World/IB & Rise/SB, and boy oh boy, its so fun to play! You can do ailments, pierce & even do homing arrows now. GG Capcom for the mechanics!
I main the IG, and this is definitely a hot take... but im glad that it's not super focused on being off the ground now. I love the weapon (it's the only mobile polearm in the game) and still do, but my biggest grips with it was air time, and that the Kinsect didnt really add to the weapon much. I mostly play IG on the ground, and only to in the air to dodge or do the downward thrust, I rarely try and mount the monster, instead focusing more on consistent damage. So, for how I play IG, it seems like a perfect change, but I do know that im in the minority of IG players. Still picking IG as my main weapon, but DB, HH, Hammer, S&S, SW, and Bow are also weapons I use. Also, PLEASE CAPCOM LET ME INTERACT WITH MY BUG MORE, I WANNA PET MY MOTH!
So I'm curious how the charge spin input will work. Seemingly it will replace big bang as the down punish while big bag becomes a trading tool. I feel like this will be a big paradigm shift for hammer options, charging for punishes based off positioning, big bang for trades with smaller attack chains, and Y for safty and parry options. The whole kit now has a solid set of use cases that will make our skill ceiling a bit higher and allow for more emergent gameplay opportunities.
It gets me unreasonably irritated every time I see Wilds Lance being talked about like the weapon didn't even exist in Sunbreak. Shield attacks are not a new concept, I get a consistent 3 KOs per hunt with Sunbreak's shield attacks on Lance. Wilds just took what worked in Sunbreak and adjusted it to work without the optionality of switch skills.
Gotta remember that people rarely ever play Lance to begin with, of course they're not gonna know the ins and outs of the weapon between games like lancers do.
@@TornaitSuperBird It's not very "ins and outs" to simply know that shield attacks are not new, in a video comparing what's new about each weapon in Wilds. When already comparing other weapons to their Sunbreak counterparts, too. Doing at least your due research when making video on the topic is in my opinion fair enough to expect.
Insect Glaive got reworked to be more about doing combos with the Kinsect rather than having it be a minor part of the weapon. You can still follow a something into the air so it's still good for that, just means you can't stay in the air. I'm fine with this trade off, helicoptering is fun but the weapon still seems to have plenty of moves that send you into the air.
I'm probably in the minority on this, but I actually started playing Swaxe in World specifically because it didn't have any counters or blocks 😅. I just wanted to focus on positioning and dodging. I figured if countering wasn't part of the weapon, then I wouldn't have to feel bad for completely ignoring the mechanic. That being said, I'm approaching this with an open mind. I'll definitely be trying out the new counters and seeing if I can work them into my combo rotation, fingers crossed. How dose the rest of the Switch Axe squad feel about the new counter moves? Excited? Ambivalent? Pessimistic?
Honestly I look forward to it. My biggest issue with swaxe in world was being locked in some stationary combo when the monster turns its attention towards me or being stuck in sword mode when it decides to release an attack with a big hit zone. I’m not too big on counter timings and prefer utilizing clever positioning but I do like the idea of having the ability to get out of those “cornered” scenarios through a clutch counter.
We had counter in rise it was good also charged phials. World switch axe feels very meaty cause of how world felt. But rise switch axe was the best switch axe not cause of the counter but for how fluid morph attacks were if wilds keeps that fluidity plus the meatier feeling of world it’ll be perfect. The wilds counter seems to be more of a hyper armor you still get damage unlike rise so it’s less op closer to a gs tackle but higher damage.

i know its a skill issue and i suck. yet the ig airborne experience for me involved: jump, monsters entire body becomes hitbox, get thrown across the map.
In World and Rise, I used Longsword, Great Sword, Insect Glaive, Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance, Bow, Switch-Axe and both HBGs. Used all of them to beat Fatalis. This game looks amazing and just like all MH games, just gotta learn attack patterns, then this game becomes cake. Newcomers, just use whatever but learn the monsters and figure out your play style and what YOU enjoy 😅 the game becomes 100% better when your enjoying the weapon you use
Always been hammer with a bit of dabbling in SnS (Rise), dual blades (World) and long sword (MHFU,P3rd) in different games since 3, but the 2 options means I’ll be trying my hand with the bow this time round. So excited
Gunlance was already GOAT in World people just love to shit on it cause it has "a shield". I farm Ex Behemoth with it for example and am able to kill ArchTemp Xenojiva in Vanilla with it, no prob. While I don't have to worry about those shitty attack and crit decorations! The biggest pro is shells ignore monster armor. You burn through it like a hot knife through butter. Right from the start of the game.
you know what i've missed about the SnS? moving while attacking, from WorldBorne. why they removed it in SunRise is beyond me, but i didn't like that choice. and now i'm glad it's back - now don't remove it again, Capcom. but one thing about SunRise i did appreciate was the addition of the "final blow" of the Perfect Rush: you have a choice between a mere sword slash, bonking the head with the shield, or plunging the sword into the monster like Link from Twilight Princess. i personally use that last one, as it actually feels like a final blow for a SnS combo (no offense to those who prefer the shield bonk). *side note :* i want to talk about Oils, for fun. i'm just confused about 2 the ones we got in GU: Stamina Oil? Mind's Eye Oil? don't get me wrong, they have a use... but how does that realistically work? because the way i see it, that's jumping the Zamtrios/Plesioth, even for Monster Hunter. how does an oil exhaust a monster, or increase the likelyhood of knocking it down? how does that work? how does an oil help retain sharpness, but *only* when the weapon hits a spot where it would normally bounce off? wouldn't it make a tad more sense to have the effect be to not lose sharpness for a limited amount of time? irl, oil was used to - basically put - preserve sharpness and prolong the blade's lifespan. that said, i say Oils should restore a certain amount of Sharpness. let me pitch my idea for oils. - Affinity Oil: same effect. restores 10% Sharpness. - Destroyer Oil: acts like Partbreaker 2. restores 10% Sharpness. - Hunting Oil (for a lack of a better name): a combo of Destroyer and Affinity oils, with the effects of 20% Affinity and Partbreaker 1. restores 15% Sharpness. - Sharpness Oil: prevents loss of Sharpness no matter what, for 1 minute. restores 25% Sharpness. to compensate for how OP those Oils presumably are, you can only carry 2 per Oil type.
I'm gonna' play SO many combinations of SO many weapons! I can't wait! I'm gonna have a Greatsword/HBG build, I'm gonna' have an HBG/Greatsword build, I'll probably have a spread HBG/Pierce HBG build, a Greatsword/Greatsword build... The combinations are ENDLESS!!!
😊Auto mode with speed control is my new favorite thing for the mount I just hope that it will fight instead of standing there looking stupid😅 🤔Its like we got loading screens back🤣 And thx guys for giving me and mrs. somthing to do instead of kicking Ray all day😂 Good vid. Good info..
Charge blade because its my main since i first started monster hunter, and hunting horn, not totaly for the buffs but because its a blunt weapon i have not played since mh 3u and it looks fun.
I would like to see what the Pierce coatings is all about for the bow? We never had pierce as a coating it’s always been a type of shot that comes on certain bows
I thought I was going to just go for my fifth gen batch (SnS+GS) but seeing that SnS isn't particularly offering much novelty I might switch it with HH for this one. Especially if they are going back to properly unique designs for each weapon, new hunting horn designs will look SICK! Imagine an octopus HH!!!?!
I typically swap between Gunlance and Dual Blades, with some use of Switch Axe and Charge Blade too. For the Beta, definitely sticking to just Gunlance and Dual Blades for now (too little time to get reacquanted with them all).
Im personally okay with not doing the Jumping Advancing Slash 3 times while in the air. Honestly, who needs that when in the video. It looks like you can go from the Jumping Advancing Slash immediately into a Descending Thrust. I like that a lot
But you can do that already... People that play aerial mode don't play it for DPS, we know it's not optimal. We play it that way because it's fun. I get that people complain about it not being optimal, but that's no reason yo have gotten rid of it, as it was a core mechanic of the weapon. It's the only weapon to have a large chunk of it's core mechanic just removed.
@@BridgeTrollForge We can still go aerial, in a different way. I liked the combo Jumping Advancing slash and Descending thrust. And we got other improvements. But I hope that capcom change their mind and listen to the audience because we're the consumers.
@@crisdoxavier I'm definitely going to play around with it. I'm sure I'll still enjoy the weapon, but I really enjoyed playing almost exclusively aerial. Maybe after playing around with the new style I'll end up liking it more. Who knows. But if the general consensus, after there's been a decent amount of people playing it,that it was better before, I would hope they would put the other style back in, if possible.
All weapons are epic I just hope they come up with a new weapon , I would love a 1 handed gun sword or something like knuckles made of monsters head or skulls
Bug Stick Look ... Chaining helicopter was dumb. We get less air time but we have more aerial actions and more reasons to jump (focus aerials get extracts and the focus strike has some tricky range but can score a down and triple) and they changed up the full dps loops and made all of the weapon gimmicks more effective while differentiating it from similar actions used by other weapons... Feels way more technical now...
Im really glad they are improving the weapons with some of the takes from Rise and frontier. I neded up maining lance in Rise because shield tackle and shield charge were MASSIVE boost to its combat usability and now I can choose to charge AND I get parry built into the block now? and DB...I am gonna miss the sword sharpen move but im glad the perfect evade being built in now...demon advance made using DB in rise fun for me personally purley because of such a nice way to evade ((dont think Ill be able to get the same build tho...))
I main DB every time, but I usually start with a different weapon and play through LR and some HR with it. HH, GL, and Lance I've tried already. I'd like to learn ranged and either GS or Hammer this time! In the end, I'm sure I'll go back to db though
Im gonna bring a impact charge blade and a SnS, or possibly a set of DB's and a horn, horn elm buff, DB's demon mode buff, and the new adapt dodge buff is gonna be funny
@@chaoswolf2903 what are the Kinsect buff effects again? Attack, defense, movement speed, Flinch Free in Wilds, right? You could probably get all that and more with the right pair of dootsticks🤔
@@chaoswolf2903 true, true. Depends on what the extract boost is though probably, since Self Improvement gives that stackable 10% damage buff but only if you're using a HH. Plus, there miiiiight be a possible strategy that'd let you juggle a plain silly amount of buffs with little effort BUT you'd only be able to do it with double Horns. Honestly though, it's neat to be able to think on how different weapons could interact now that we have the swapping ability!
hope we got more Shield bashing attacks woven into the kit for Lance. This way traditional Lance players can use their bread and butter but have some new stuff on the side that's good utility
We've had Lance shield bashing ever since late 4th Generation. The VAST majority of the playerbase doesn't play Lance, so I wouldn't exactly fault them for not knowing.
it's definitely nerfed. They are locking move and modes behind specific gimmick interactions instead of letting you be able to go into them freely on command like in iceborne, and it's an intentional choice too which is sad. You used to be able to just go into savage axe whenever you want as long as you had the phials, now you have to have the phials and do a focus attack on a wound. Similar thing for the SAED, there is nothing stopping the MH team from having the combo route letting you just use it from neutral while in axe mode or after any sword swing, but they intentionally chose to make the AED always com before it unless you guard point an attack. I think that's a purposefully limiting player choice and railroading them to play in one style.
@@neurosis51On the other hand, it's a choice that actively rewards skill expression through guard pointing. It was quite easy to effectively spam SAEDs, due to the reasons you just mentioned. Yes, the SAED is the most powerful attack in the moveset of Charge Blade. However, it was easily spammable with a charged shield and the double shield bash combo from neutral SnS Mode stance. Savage Axe on the other hand is a much rougher choice imo. But at the same time I can understand why the dev team would do it: to prevent players from staying in Axe Mode all the time. Because Savage Axe could refill phials in Axe Mode, many players would just stay in Axe Mode all the time and not really engage with SnS Mode outside of restarting Savage Axe.
@@TornaitSuperBird I'm going to have to disagree with you on both of your points. 1. It's not a decision that actively rewards skill because you were already able to Saed from guard point in all the past games that had it. It's not adding any options, it merely taking them a away. It would be similar to if they locked helm breaker behind a finished a spirit combo and/or only after you pulled off a counter. You didn't reward Ls players more, you just limited there options to go into their strongest attack. 2. Savage axe drains phials on a timer, you can't build phials in axe mode in world at least (pizza cutter in Mhgu is the only exception that comes to mind) . Also no one wants to stay in axe mode anyway unless and opening for an attack is present due to how slow it is movement and attack wise.
I just hope they can match the difficulty. All these new changes to weapons make the game so much easier. Last thing I want is an easy monster hunter game.
@ yes exactly like rise. The game was an absolute joke. Never carted once and I always felt hunts were an absolute slog. Way too many player friend mechanics
I haven't seen anyone talk about it yet but since we can now have 2 weapons, can we carry 2 of the same weapon type? Can I have 2 different dual blades to match different elemental weaknesses for free farming fun? On the same note, can I have 2 of the SAME dual blades to potentially beat monsters without needing to polish?

been tinkering with Bow in the beta since my main is Swaxe ever since World/IB & Rise/SB, and boy oh boy, its so fun to play! You can do ailments, pierce & even do homing arrows now. GG Capcom for the mechanics!
So excited for wilds! I didn’t wanna see any spoilers but couldn’t resist at least watching weapon videos
I love that we get two weps now, because my first main was DBs and now I main CB, but with Wilds I can have BOTH my mains 🖤
It’s a good thing Josh didn’t make this video
ROCKET POWRED GREATSWORD
I don't need to watch the video before I answer. For me, it is, always has, and always will be Great Sword.
Doing at least your due research when making video on the topic is in my opinion fair enough to expect.
lots of kids here and youtubers hastly throwing vids out to cash in.
Time to become a bowgun master by running both of them lmao-
im not new to MH but this is a pretty amazing video and will help a tonof players new and old. Thanks!

Only ever used it for fatalis in world but I like it just being a large weapon with no block or counters but it looks alright
I didn’t like the swax in rise/sunbreak at all. Ended up maining insect glaive haha.
The swax was my fav weapon in world and generations ultimate.
Im really hoping the swax will feel good to me again in wilds. I miss it xD
Have been loving the bow gameplay in the beta. Hoping for a demo because I am not sure I can wait until February. Haha
i know its a skill issue and i suck. yet the ig airborne experience for me involved: jump, monsters entire body becomes hitbox, get thrown across the map.
So excited
Kinda sad they got rid of wyvernsnipe for hbg, I always found it satisfying to see a line of explosions when you line up the shot just right.
We need Josh back yelling ROCKET POWER GREATSWORD!!! (That's why i sub back in the day)
I'll be maining Charge Blade. But gunlance is lookin kinda hype this time around
Probably gonna use longsword and bow
Same
I feel like it's either or. And then HH might be mandatory 2nd
Hell yeah, another ronin
I'm gonna' play SO many combinations of SO many weapons! I can't wait! I'm gonna have a Greatsword/HBG build, I'm gonna' have an HBG/Greatsword build, I'll probably have a spread HBG/Pierce HBG build, a Greatsword/Greatsword build... The combinations are ENDLESS!!!
The fact it took sns this long to use the second s of it's namesake is wild to me. Loving the new perfect guarding
New to bows but it has been an absolute beast in the beta
😊Auto mode with speed control is my new favorite thing for the mount I just hope that it will fight instead of standing there looking stupid😅
🤔Its like we got loading screens back🤣
And thx guys for giving me and mrs. somthing to do instead of kicking Ray all day😂
Good vid.
I’m so excited to use the dual blades!
Fly like a 🦋, sting like a 🐝!
I seee, sword and shield is still gonna be my main, thinking about great sword for my second weapon
I'm trying Lance out for the very first time. I've played since PS2 days but never picked the weapon up.
I typically swap between Gunlance and Dual Blades, with some use of Switch Axe and Charge Blade too.
For the Beta, definitely sticking to just Gunlance and Dual Blades for now (too little time to get reacquanted with them all).
Sword and Shield can use it's focus attack while airborne
I'm trying out gunlance for my first playthrough of Wilds. Gonna bring my old faithful Charge Blade as my secondary though
I’ll main either two SnS or a SnS and Lance.
so similar to my own choice: SnS as primary, and Lance/Bow as secondary.
Hunting Horn and Switch Axe for me depending on how the buffs work when full game is out 2 horns lol
After maining greatsword for world and rise. I have fallen victim to the bow. It just feels so fluid!
totally going crazy and doing hammer as primary and hunting horn as secondary
I refuse to use the long sword, purely out of spite.
Hope life gets better for you lil bro
Great Sword is my fav! Dual blades and hammer will try after
Im really glad they are improving the weapons with some of the takes from Rise and frontier.
Definitely using Switchaxe and Bow. I'm happy that my mains have much more improvements.
So far Hammer and Lance are speaking to me, also others, but those 2 especially.
I play with 2 other people all the time so I main Lbg for the status effects. will keep that up in wilds
I main DB every time, but I usually start with a different weapon and play through LR and some HR with it. HH, GL, and Lance I've tried already. I'd like to learn ranged and either GS or Hammer this time! In the end, I'm sure I'll go back to db though
I started playing Gen Ultimate again, and the discerning dodge or perfect evade reminds me of adept mode. So thatll be fun as a bow main.
I would of died laughing of Josh just yelled "GREATSWORD" and then the outro started playing. Missed opportunities 😂😂
Bow is gonna be my main, not sure what I’ll use as a secondary ( maybe just double down on bow 😅)
If anyone is watching this now, the IG got its air combat back just like from world
Im gonna bring a impact charge blade and a SnS, or possibly a set of DB's and a horn, horn elm buff, DB's demon mode buff, and the new adapt dodge buff is gonna be funny
hehe i'm gonna get my first pc next month cant wait for mhwilds!!
Im going to try them all but probably will play the bow, longsword, dual blades or swaxe
As a Gunlance and Hunting Horn enjoyer, i will give those a spin at first. After that i will try the others.
I'll always be an sns main, i just wish they gave it a bit more love. Oils would have made sns not feel like its falling behind the others
Hunting horn/insect glaive might be the strongest solo combo. All the buffs and utility in one combo
Yeah but hear me out...2 Horns
@@KPlaysHere if they have different buffs maybe. But hunting horn buffs on top of triple glaive buff goes kinda hard
@@chaoswolf2903 what are the Kinsect buff effects again? Attack, defense, movement speed, Flinch Free in Wilds, right? You could probably get all that and more with the right pair of dootsticks🤔
@@KPlaysHere but kinsect buffs stack with horn. Double horns won't stack attack defense etc. Hence a bigger combo
@@TornaitSuperBird yeah, if you are talking about the guard into shield bash... that's just disappointing, no one uses it
they better give IG the vortex Kinsects from Rise to offset the bounce being taken away.
i have a feeling that chargeblade is getting slightly nerfed but is still pretty good
it's definitely nerfed.
@@neurosis51You’re being dumb. They’re taking it away because it was too simple. What don’t you understand?
I started to main great sword my first monster hunter game was world and now I can’t wait and because of rage Josh gaming, I main great sword
Fast dual blades and the burst of gunlance for me 😁
Ngl, as some that used to suck with bow, the new onew feels way better.
I can't not switch axe. It's got the combination of speed, power, and versatility that I like. Can't stand how slow things like GS and hammer take.
Is Cotton going to be playing the beta?
Probably gonna pick up LBG, LS, GS, DB and Hammer
I am a four weapon main. Greatsword, Charge Blade, Dual Blade, and Gunlance
It seems I'm going to be busy since I play 8 weapons, might even need to prioritise some over others.
Switch axe and dual blades. Gonna test them out tonight.
Im going lance, second gunlance, third Charge Blade since i liked it in world and last bow
Insect Glaive + Hunting Horn 🔥
I haven't seen anyone talk about it yet but since we can now have 2 weapons, can we carry 2 of the same weapon type? Can I have 2 different dual blades to match different elemental weaknesses for free farming fun? On the same note, can I have 2 of the SAME dual blades to potentially beat monsters without needing to polish?
