  • This is the eighty second in a series of videos I’m going to produce to document the building of my Trumpeter 1:200 model Titanic. In this episode I cover adding:
    - Decals to lifeboats.
    - Grab lines.
    - Completing the 25ft cutters.
    - Painting davits.
    If you want to see more regular updates have a look at my Instagram page (same name as the channel). I post photos as I'm building there so you don't have to wait for the videos to be edited!

    Well done Rob, turning the incorrect flag problem into a logistical triumph was a very smart move. That's something else for me to think about, I may research tiny numbers, perhaps model railway decals in N gauge or something! Great video as usual, patience is a virtue! Regards JH ⚓ (Colombia 👍)!

      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aah goodo on Colombia! Thanks for the comment, it was a bit of a nightmare really with the decals, a fair few mistakes here and there but we got there in the end. By the time the grab lines are on they are hard to see anyway!
      Hope all is well?
      Speak soon,
      Robbie

    14:37 The emergency cutters didn't have grab lines along their gunwales, only the 30ft boats had them.

      Are you 100% sure about this? Even inflatable dinghy’s have them, just in case you fall out and need to get back in. 😮

      @Titanic_401 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@polygonalmasonary just look at any Titanic photo and you'll see that the cutters don't have grab lines.

      Yeah annoyingly I have found a few pics and you seem to be correct! No grab lines, well spotted.
      I’ll get them removed, fortunately I don’t have to fit the cutters for a while anyway 🙂

    You could install a working steam engine and lifelike figures of everyone who travelled with the Titanic. But you know there always will be the one person who says: „The decals on the liveboats are wrong.“ 😂. Keep up the good work!

    Could you do the Britannic please I really wanna see it I want to see you build it

    • @inmyhumbleopinion7
      @inmyhumbleopinion7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no 1:200 Britannic model for him to make, and I doubt there are enough pieces made to properly and accurately convert a titanic model into a Britannic one but I could be wrong. It is unlikely he will do Britannic especially because this one is taking so long as is that he would have to do pretty much the same thing all over again

      I might well do a Britannic at some point but I’d like a bit of a break from the Olympic class for the time being! Three years on them is enough for me 😛

    Great modelling once more. When building model loco kits a name or number might be missing from decal sheet. However judicious cutting of other decals would give the letter/number needed. Then with more cutting the individual letter could be inserted making the name or number required. Thus the boat numbers cut off could have used where they should,d have been.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you are correct, in the end I felt that they were too small, hardly visible really (and once the grablines went on very hard to see anyway!)

  • @MartinFutter70

    those decals really bring those boats to life... Question: what happened to the lifeboats after the rescue?

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a good question, they were unloaded from Carpathia and stored at the White Star wharf in New York for a bit. Where most things that could be removed were, either by souvenir hunters or by White Star. But an educated guess would be that they were assigned to other ships. For obvious reasons there was a huge shortage of good quality lifeboats after Titanic sank. The following passage from Wikipedia seems to tally with this line of thinking:
      The 13 lifeboats retrieved by Carpathia were taken to the White Star Line's Pier 59 in New York, where souvenir hunters soon stripped them of much of their equipment. The S.S. Titanic nameplates which were not already stolen were removed by White Star Line workmen along with the rest of the identification plaques, and the boats were then inventoried by the C.M. Lane Lifeboat Co. of Brooklyn. They were assessed for salvage at a collective value of £930 ($4,972) as the only salvageable items recovered from Titanic. They remained in New York until at least December 1912; their whereabouts have been unknown since. One common misconception is that they may have been taken back to England aboard and installed on Olympic, Titanic's sister ship: however, this has since been disproven. They were either scrapped, left to rot in New York, or quietly redistributed to other vessels sometime after December 1912.

    I'd like to ask a question over a minute detail. When looking at the picture of Titanic leaving Queenstown, taken astern from the ship, you may see how forward lifeboat davits are a couple of degrees inward to the ship and aft davits positioned a couple of degrees outward. Are you going to impliment this detail in your model?

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, yeah I will be. I will have the forward davits almost perpendicular to the deck, and the stern davits slightly outwards. I’m using china 3D davits which are already moulded in that position

      At some point I will probs, though not for a bit. I want a bit of a break from the Olympic class liners after I finish Titanic!

    • @Deveolgaming1912
      @Deveolgaming1912 ปีที่แล้ว

      Titanic is a enormous ship. I can see why you'd want a break. These ships are fairly the same shape. I'd want something completely different too!

      I quite fancy doing Lusitanias sister ship Mauritania. I’m from Newcastle (where Mauritania was built) so quite fancy doing something that was built where I’m from. Much like titanic and Olympic they were very similar ships with a few subtle differences
