    Many years ago I had the privilege of working with a man who had served aboard HMS Rodney throughout WWII and took part in the sinking of the Bismarck. R.I.P. Cecil. You were a good one !

      Its probably hard to cope with what war bares on young people in those times - luckily, we finally have a peaceful time in some parts of the world but we should not forget at what cost!

    Thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. Excellent model making. I watched the video on my mobile telephone, it appeared that way the Union Jack (and the Union Flag can only be described as such when flying from a Jack Staff), was upside down. Incidentally, ordinary seamen are called Jack as they were messed at the foc'sle end, under the Jack Staff. Similarly you placed the White Ensign on the mizzen mast rather than the Ensign Staff. There are a number of Pathe News films to confirm the White Ensign flying at the ship's stern. I have only seen black and white photographs and film of the Rodney, so it was very interesting to see the dazzle paint in colour. My father served on the "Rodbox" from 1943 to 1945. Atlantic, Malta and Russian convoys. Sicily and D-day landings. Like my mother, their generation, they gave up their youth to fight fascism. Thank-you for making a very interesting video. Charles.

    Peter congrats on 1000 subscribers! When you said a big project, you were not kidding. What a beautiful kit. Again I loved the camouflage paint schemes, great work. When you did the stenciling on the hull, it reminded me of when my ships were in drydock, I would go down and look at the hull, and that's what it looked like. Awesome build and video Peter and again congratulations on the 1000 mark, in a few months you will be doing a 2000 subscribers build! Have a great week and stay safe and healthy. My best to your family and friends. 👍👍🇦🇹🤝🇺🇸

      Thanks very much! Making a credible lower hull painting is quite difficult as there are very few photos of ships that were long underwater and then came to dry dock, so it means a lot to me that it actually looks similar to real ones! Thanks for always coming back to my videos! This is what makes it enjoyable, getting feedback and positivity back!

    That looks spot on. Love the Nelson Class.. I made loads of Airfix models when I was a lad. My intentions were always to hang the planes from the ceiling, Tanks on my shelves and the Battleships had to float on my olds large pond. Only Bismark out of the 4 battleships I made, would float upright without modifications 2 I put in weights or ballast etc and one was a lost cause (Belfast) On seeing your masterpiece, my first thought was, would this float??

    Superb video ...
    A lot of people don't like the Nelson class they find it ugly.
    The Roddney was the second of two post dreadnought class BSs with the new and latest tech of the time.
    The citadel superstructure paved the way for that era of ships tho the superstructure sits aft of the deck is still very striking.
    I have Rodney& Burwell (the latter a convoy escort destroyer )in my name because of family who served on them .
    Would love to have this in my 350 scale fleet but I don't believe it's tooled for the scale.
    Keep the videos coming mate.

      @funinscale2892  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Anthony! I agree with you, it is a great ship! It utilized so many new technologies while staying in the Washington Naval Treaty limits, with 406mm guns! It is not as beautiful as HMS Hood, but it is still an extremely interesting ship and has a nice shape. The bridge especially, a massive, high tower structure.
      I have never seen this ship in 1/350 either. I hope your family members came home safely with HMS Rodney

      @funinscale2892  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonynichols2088 Thats good to hear! Glad this horrible time had a happy ending for your family! Hmm.. no, i cant remember any modern ship with the superstructure aft. I think the superstructure aft was a great choice when ship armour was still put on, but with modern ships, most are not armoured very thickly so there is no need for the special layout of the superstructure, with a thick frontal citadel armour and less armour at the bow and sides

    The Nelson class was always one of my favorites. It was an innovate approach by British engineers to stuff the most powerful guns into a ship confined to the 35,000 ton displacement restrictions of the London Naval treaty. By concentrating the main battery forward like that they shortened the citadel they would need to protect with armor and reducing weight. Absolutely brilliant British engineers.

    Which airbrush would you recommend for me, I am a beginner and haven't airbrushed yet.

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I started off airbrushing with a cheap set from amazon where a compressor and an airbrush were included for around 50€ (around 56 USD), and i still have the same compressor, so it is a good piece and has great value! The cheap air brush is great for learning; it took me months of try and error until i had consistent results with the paint finishes. I clogged my airbrush countless times and was frustrated about it many times, but it is all learning and gaining experience.
      Now i use the Paasche Talon which is a great airbrush, but the supply of spare parts is a little limited in europe, as they are made in the US

      @@jerrymccrae7202 No problem, my friend! I think the music is not too bad and it is great that the artist, bensound, made all this and lets us use it for free. I dont build smaller scale models that often, 1/72 or 1/700, but they can be quite hard with all the tiny parts and all. Thanks, have a nice week as well and stay healthy

    How tall is the Rodney from base of hull to the tip of the mast ?
    I am planning to order a display shelf that is gonna include a 1/200 Nelson in it. Would appreciate if if you can provide me the dimensions of the finished model.

    • @funinscale2892

      Hi! I dont have her anymore, but she was standing in a shelf with 34cm of height, and i remember she barely made it in there without scraping the mast of, so i would assume something between 30 and 33cm of height from the bottom of the hull to the tip of the mast

    The camouflage scheme is wrong, like most of the Rodney models out there on the internet. Weatering is acceptable below the waterline. Please, those of you who are painting a Rodney with camouflage, before painting first take a look at the black and white photos of the real ship ( Google translator english, sorry )

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fred! I have painted the deck sections in the dark grey colour before, then painted the light camouflage paint and then fixed the overspray with a paint brush, by hand so i dont have to mask the whole deck

      yes you are right, it should be even lower than the edge of the hull. it was just sitting there when i filmed this sequence, not glued in place at that moment. luckily, such a bulging deck would not have looked good on the finished model!
