I had a friend with a big black Newfoundland. He was driving back to his cottage one night when he saw the dog running beside the car. He phoned his wife and asked "Who let Augie out?" His wife replied "Augie is laying here by the fireplace." It was a good thing he called because it was really a black bear bounding along beside his car.
A friend of mine had an NL dog. His biggest problem was that whenever his kids would go swimming in the ocean, the dog would drag them back to shore XD. Really strong rescue instinct.
I knew a girl who followed the Dead with her Newfie puppy. The dog would let her get in a lake or River when camping, but the second her hair got wet the dog was bringing her out and wouldn’t let her back in the water til her hair was dry….
My Newfie sleeps next to me every night and goes away once I am asleep. The moment I wake up to go to the loo or drink water, she comes back and resumes her position next to me, only for me to fall asleep for her to sneak away. It is as if she thinks it’s her duty to be next to me when I sleep. Best breed on the planet :)
I just lost my Chewy, my best friend last Sunday. As soon as I saw the puppies I broke down. These dogs will capture your heart . They are a gift from God. Chewy was 14 years old. I’ll miss him forever
@@Dravito94 Thank you! He was my shadow since the day he was born. He actually picked me. He was the second biggest male . He would follow me everywhere when all the other pups were playing. One day when it’s time I’ll start looking for another Newfie. Maybe when I can be a one dog family. People come to me instead of the pound. I have never turned a dog away. With me they have a forever home. We have a “No Kill” shelter, but actually there is no such thing. They will transfer them to a shelter that kills. So legally they can say they are a no kill shelter. Thank you for your kindness.
14 is a good long life for such a big dog. Congrats on having him so long. It hurts like hell to lose a dog. My boy has been gone 3 years and I still cry when I think about him.
Lost my best friend 3.5 years ago now, (He was a Rottweiler x AM Mastiff and lived to 14 also) whenever i get down about thinking about him I just remember all the good memories i had with him and how he genuinely changed mine and my families life.
This breed of dog is the absolute best best ever. When I was young, I had the pleasure of meeting 2 of the best examples of Newfoundland dogs I had ever seen. They belonged to my grandfather. These were working dogs, and I mean really working in the traditional roles these dogs were used. My grandparents lived in a small fishing town in Newfoundland (pronounced New-Fin-Land by those from there) that was in a harbour on the east side of Trinity Bay. My grandfather would get up before dawn and head down to his boat every morning followed by the dogs. Each dog carrying various equipment down to the boat for him. When he went out fishing, only one would join him each alternating days, which they did on their own taking turns. They were there in case my grandfather missed the floats for the nets. If he missed the float with the hook, the dogs would automatically jump in retrieve the float for him, then climb back into the boat via the platform my grandfather had added to the back of his boat. They would stand in the boat no matter the conditions on the water. That would not be impressive if you didn't know they were fishing from what we called a punt (pretty much just an extended row boat with a motor on the back and a place for a couple oars) in the open waters of the Atlantic. The one that was left behind would sit for hours, looking out at the water from the dock, and wouldn't move until they returned. When they returned the one on the dock would jump in the water to grab the rope and haul the boat in. When the fishing was done in the morning the dogs would join him for lunch (never fed anything other than table scraps and raw fish). After lunch, it was back to work, this time with the one that didn't go fishing. On to the horse and cart and off to the forest to gather wood. When the bush was thick and the horse couldn't get in, the dog was harnessed up to the log and they would pull it out of the woods to where the horse was. The time these dogs were happiest was when they were working, or spending time with us kids. They loved spending time with us, but loved their jobs more. I love seeing this breed and seeing others experience what I did. I just wish that more people could see what these dogs are like when used in their traditional roles. If you think of getting one of these, be careful on the water. If they happen to be on a boat and something falls into the water, you will be fishing a dog out of the water. Most just instinctively jump when something falls off the boat.
T.O.Toodles That sounds amazing to experience. I hope people continue to use these dogs in their traditional working role so it won’t be bred out of them. I hope to, one day, have a herd of these dogs for our family.
I cannot overstate how gentle, affectionate, and friendly my Newfie Minnie is. It should also be noted that they are not destructive. Her favourite toy is a couple of years old and still intact. They are just the most awesome dogs.
My best friend was Bear. His papa was a newfie and his mom was a golden retriever. Only weighed 140lbs. Sold black. Same coat, looks and personality of a newfie. Only been to a vet once in his life. Lived for 17 years. I miss him.
God bless your Bear. 17 years with only one vet visit is incredible - anything that stood out that possibly kept him very healthy? What kind of diet plan did you have him on, and foods that were good to eat vs foods that you never fed him? Thanks
@@kaneaftopouagapas3798 Bear died with all his bits still attached. Never mated with a female. Never been around a female that was even in heat. Always had human or canine and other animals companionship, was never alone. HIs food was always warm, thoroughly soaked in homemade bone broth. Every other day, fresh blanched well ground meat, bone and fat was added to his food. He was always getting fresh morrow and knuckle bones from the local butcher. Took him swimming at the lake and hiking quite often. A very happy and healthy boy. 🤗
We've got one of these amazing dogs bought from these breeders. They called him Inkomo Providence born 21.9.2015. We call him Odin. He's such lovely kind dog and yes a handful to look after. But living in rural Cornwall he's covered in mud a lot of the time and so is our home, but he's with us all the time and we are known by the people in our village as the couple with the big black dog or Odin's owners. Even the postman loves him. When we collected Odin that day five years ago, the lady in this film was tearful as we took him away. Just to let her know he's been totally healthy and happy since that day. If you really want a Newfie this is the breeder to go to. Thanks to Tzar and Malika (Odin's parents) and inkomostud.
I hardly write on TH-cam, but I cared to say how lovely and such a good heart lady seems to be Anneka. I saw how warmly and soon chow chows welcomed her in that video... like a member from their own family. Hugs from Italy and thanks for your great videos 🌹
Gosh, how I miss my girl Cricket. She was the sweetest and most loyal dog ever. The slobbers (even halfway up the wall), the fur all over everything, the wet dog smell (she loved the ponds), the mud, the slobbery kisses, her love for about everyone she met, her stubbornness at times, her playfulness and goofiness, ......I miss it all.
I wonder if the breed is stubborn bc it is aware of its massive size. It knows it cannot be stopped in most cases, so it's going to do what it wants to do anyway. Thankfully the breed isn't aggressive, so the worst it's going to do is get wet, eat, and move furniture out of its way.
@@CC-si3cr That's part of it but while they were bred to work alongside people they are also independent thinkers and are known for doing things on their own, such as rescuing someone that's drowning. They have a certain pride and intelligence which I think also contributes to them sometimes being a little stubborn. I know with Cricket, some things like a bath, were below her dignity and she'd do things to try and get out of having a bath or be like ok, what's in it for me. It's not that I couldn't give her a bath but I had to make it worth her while. She was very sensitive to people and things going on around her and just did things she thought needed to be done. True, they are by nature not aggressive dogs but they can be fierce protectors when they need to be. I experienced a side of Cricket I didn't think possible one time when a stranger was in my house. He was a new meter man and for some reason she did not like him. Picture a 130 pound snarling, snapping, and growling Newfie. I actually feared for this man's life and told him to get out fast when he came up from the basement. She was dragging me across the floor trying to get at him. She had never done this with a stranger, and never did it again, so I knew something was not right with this man. Found out from my usual meter man, that man was fired a couple of weeks later for stealing.
I grew up with a Newfoundland as my best friend, he was the best dog ever, for sure a gentle giant. He was 14 when we had to have him put down from sever hip dysplasia, and 34 years later I still have a place in my heart for my Dynomite 🥰
My next door neighbors and their kids had a Newfie when I was a kid; 140 pounds of pure love, she was the pet of the neighborhood. We used to play hockey on our frozen-over backyard pond and the Newfie would hear the clack clack of hockey sticks and escape her yard to come over and chase the hockey puck.
@@justinian536 , thick ice! This was back in the 70's when we had real winters here in southern New England; but in recent years it hasn't been cold enough for consistently safe ice. Hardly anybody gets to skate or go ice fishing these days, and our climate is cool and rainy almost all year long.
During & after WW2 in Gander (my dad worked on the Ferry Command) the Yanks had a Newfie as their masco “ Sailor”. We played with him every day esp. snow days. Oh, dear God what lovely memories.
My aunt told the story of the Newfie in her neighborhood. Old in years but willing to be “ on guard’’. One day, while sitting in her car waiting for whoever, she noted all the kids playing & this huge Newfie laying about on the sidewalk. A stranger approached (salesman, ?) the dog allowed him to pass. The man asked a question or 2 of the kids. (He was near her car). He turned to go & noted the slight pressure on his ankle. He tried to walk, the pressure increased. Each time he moved, it increased. He got the message. Called to my aunt, told her he meant the kids no harm & could she call someone for help. He needed both legs in his line of work, I guess. It all ended well. I wish all our little treasures could have such protectors around them today.
I'd move to Newfoundland and buy 30 acres lot with a house right next to a beach and get myself huge Newfs and puppies. I'll be a happiest person on earth.🐾
I've had five Newfies over the past 20 years. One lived to 12, another to 13, and another to 15. When they passed the other dogs took it the really hard; they got very depressed. The best dogs ever and they like to sleep with you. : )
I have a Bernefie (Bernese Mountain Dog x Newfoundland) and he is the sweetest, most loving, 115 lbs lap dog you will ever meet. He isn't trained for it, but if ever start to cry he will run to me from across the house, jump into my lap and lick my face or hands until I stop, and then cuddle me for another 10 minutes after. He has so many Newfie qualities and is stubborn but so gentle, and I am so blessed to have him in my life.
I miss my Newfie Buddy. He was the best friend any one could have. The most loving guy, he loved working and hunting down small rodent holes for me with his nose. I couldn't water plants without him having to drink and get his face wet every 2 minutes. He loved his family and the house cat actually came outside to play with him and became best friends. Very loyal and obedient. Always wants to impress and love me. A Newfie= Love
Newfies are the sweetest of sweethearts, I’ve never met one that had a single mean bone in its body, they’re so great. So strong too, I once had to try to get a 200 lb Newfie to go outside and it was having none of it lol It felt like I was trying to move a boulder
I am so jealous. If there was only one thing I could do before I depart this mortal coil, it would be to sit in a pen for hours full of Newfoundland puppies. My heart is aching.
I once had a very photogenic (and large) akita. The only time I ever saw him upstaged was by a gang of Newfie puppies who were rocketing around their enclosure while their parents were carrying out a life-saving display. Sadly, the jacket I had with me didn't have pockets big enough...
Donald White I understand what you mean, but I genuinely believe that you’ll know love with ANY breed of dog. In my opinion they are the greatest pet one could ever hope for.
Our newf Gus almost made it to 12 years. He was the best dog ever! He loved our western Canadian cold winters and would pull me with a harness X-country skiing and mountain biking. He loved all people, especially kids. Newfs are wonderful dogs!!
here in Newfoundland, these dogs don't care what time of year it is they will go in the water and play . the ocean is their playground . gentle giants all around , great family dog to own.
I live in France, we call them "Terreneuve". They are amazing. In Bretagne they use them as rescue dogs at sea and I've even been to a competition. They will draw quite a crowd !
Really enjoyed the vid, thank you. I have had two Newfies and a Saint and loved them all, but my Newfs were the best. A few years back, I hadn't seen a Newf for a while and ran into a family at an outdoor ceremony that had one and asked if I could cuddle with her and they said yes...I was so happy...was 55 at the time and still felt joy holding them. You're missing out if you have not met one...they are the best.
I fell in love with this breed when I was a little kid Warning sad story So when I was a little kid there was a Newfoundland who lived around the corner and his name was Bruno. Now Bruno was a very sweet dog but with a bit of a sad story. He was always chained to a tree in the front yard of the house, his fur was always very dirty, he drank the rain water that filled his dish, his food always looked really gross, and in comparison to other male Newfies he was very skinny. And around here the summers can get around 100 degrees F and with a thick black coat that’s no fun, and the winters in the negative teens if he wasn’t a Newfie I fear he would’ve frozen to death. But despite this harsh treatment Bruno was just a sweet bundle of love. Whenever me or my siblings rode our bikes we’d always go and visit him he’d immediately perk up wag and his tail you could tell random small amounts of love meant the world to him he’d always cry or howl as you began to walk away. And whenever he slipped out of the chain he’d walk around the corner to our front door as if he were trying to say “hi you are all so nice to me, can I live with you?” And sadly we’d have to walk him back every time. I wish I knew to report the animal abuse or that my parents would but I guess they didn’t want any trouble. After about 4 years Bruno disappeared one day I hope he got the loving home he deserved but I fear that his ticks or a big dog health problem caught up with him. But I will always remember the worlds sweetest dog and what made me love Newfies and when I get my first Newfie if it’s a male I’m naming him Bruno. Hope my story wasn’t too sad have a good day to whoever read this much.
My first dog was a Newfoundland. I was a child and he was my very best friend. I've never got over loosing him. I could see him in some of the dogs in the video. I will always miss him but this video was such a treat. Thank you. 🐶💛
This video is perfect timing for me. We actually just put my thirteen year old Newfoundland down on Thursday and I've been needing some Newfie in my day. They're the sweetest and most laid back breed I've ever met but definitely not for everyone. They shed and drool like crazy and are stubborn
My absolute favorite! A friend had two of these growing up and they scared the crap out of every one. But they were as sweet as Angel's. Great video as usual Thank you dear heart. Blessings 🐕💜
LoveLight Shining people get intimidated by their size but they’re the furthest thing from intimidating, I’ve never met one that wasn’t just a beautiful sweetheart, they’re so so so friendly and awesome and they love snuggles, 150 lb lap dogs, just the BEST
I was born and raised and still live in Newfoundland. During 9/11 the passengers who were stuck here said they had never met more kind people so it makes sense the Newfoundland dog is just as willing to help people and have so much h empathy. I think they have more than the people they are so sweet.
the puppies remind me how i came home with my new dog. "grandma, look at this sweet little dog." my grandma said: "sweet little dog? are you crazy?? look at these paws!!!" oh, how right she was 🤣
I love Newfoundlands. These dogs are everything... The Newfys in the video are very nice looking dogs. They are so lucky to have their very own river. I bred, rescued and raised Newfys for 15 yrs. I miss my Newfys everyday. They brought so much love and joy into everyone's life and they are fiercely loyal and compassionate. Those puppies are so adorable. I would give anything to be able to sit there and hug them.
Lewis and Clark had a Newfoundland named Seaman! He accompanied the Corps of Discovery as they trekked west and forged the Oregon trail. They are amazing dogs.
He was kidnapped by the Chinook Indiams long enough to mate with all their Indian digs in heat. Pretty cool his line lives on in the Pacific Northwest!
I've always had a Pup that was a 50/50 mix of Golden/ Black Lab and it's always a boy and all black. Best family I've ever had, but now I think my next boy will be a giant Black Newfoundland ! What an awesome breed ! Thank you.
I’m loving this, I’m getting an intense sense of “you know they’re not from here” with her pronunciation of Newfoundland, I’m in New Brunswick and in just like its pronunced “newf’in’land”
Ya but the problem is us for adopting the wrong pronunciation of the word. But it is the norm. I use to say it as spelled but to many folks home looked at me like I had two heads.
They are also quite cheeky. Yes, calm most of the time but they're always open for mischief. I had a newfie called Yara groing up and my mom called us the twins. We always got into trouble. Yara was the only newfie I've ever seen who HATED water. You've never seen a more miserable dog when she accidentally stepped into water. That was another thing too- she was SO CLUMSY. And she never listened. I miss her. She was my best friend!!
Anneka is wolfGirl she have heart to handle shocks. She experienced bite on her arm few years back bit she didn't give up. I always write this as i know her since beginning of her love to Dogs and Wolves
Best dog breed I’ve ever owned. On my second now, and our current boy is the goofiest, happiest and sweetest dog. He is so precious and I wouldn’t trade him for the world.
All year I've been working on acquiring my first Newfoundland puppy. Finally, tomorrow he arrives! Raised a Saint Bernard, which was splendid. She was amazing. Looking forward to the similar but very different Newfoundland!
They are silent protectors. My husband asking one night if I ever observed our boy silently protecting us, I told him no . Then a few nights later we took our boy for a walk past a bar and grill. And a newfie being a newfie everyone wants to come see him. A man walked out and came to greet us. We could tell he had a little too much to drink. He was ok, but a little on the loud side and very talkative. During the conversation our boy got between the man and myself, then I could start to feel pressure for our boy on my legs so I would have to take a step back. He did that a couple of times until we said our goodbyes to the stranger. So cool!
This is terrific. I've been scrolling for good dog-related videos during Covid. We've have 6-Newfies and a Leonberger. By far, this is one of my favorite videos with Hayley Howard Gash. You are genuine, honest about the breed, aware, and obviously, so in love. We agree.
I've owned a Neapolitan Mastiff back in the mid 1980s and I was practically raised with Newfoundlands as a kid. Watching your show brings a tear to my eye. All 3 of those dogs were the most loving and intelligent breeds. Even the Newfs were very protective of us when we were kids. I really miss them.
Newfies are a gift from heaven. Their personalities are sweet, kind, loving and gentle. I grew up with 3, and they were my playmates, since I lived in the country. I remember when my parents divorced and being taken away from them. It was and still is a haunting memory. My current Newfie is a blessing, sweet, loyal, and loving… and occasionally stubborn, he’s only 1.5 yrs.
I adore those dogs. I really am not a small dog person. I like a dog that can jump to my shoulders and do eyeball, to eyeball. They are magnificent. Love big farm dogs to be in the home and feel their love, safety and protection. I adore all dogs. The first Newfie visit occurred when checking to see my good friend and her family. We went next door, and I met the Newfie. They said watch the dog... we were all outside. I just said 'Hello' as I do with all dogs, and told him how beautiful he was, and the next instant this gorgeous black dog was eyeball to eyeball with me, paws on my shoulders and I was elated. It was a fantastic first meeting and I have been in love with them ever since!
Through all the hair and the drool and the hard work and the mess and the smell I would gladly repeat the life my Charlie has lived. He is 11 and a half now and we have had him since he was eight weeks old and I would not change a single jot nor trade it away. He has been the kindest noblest companion I have ever had the pleasure of being the friend of.
What a beautiful dog! A real gentle giant. i think, though, a bit impractical for a city dweller, but if I had a country home I would get one in a heartbeat. Thanks for this video. Be safe and well.
I had a neighbor who had one. At the time I didn’t know it. It was summer so I had my front door open. I was sitting listening to music, drinking a beer 🍺 and he walked by with his dog. I thought it was a damn bear 🐻 he was so big. When he came back i stopped him and asked what breed of dog that was. I didn’t get to close he was intimidating just by his size. Jeff said he’s fine he is very friendly. He told me it’s a Newfoundland. I was very impressed how calm he was. Beautiful dog. Great breed. ❤
one Newfie trait I haven’t seen addressed here is that they are absolutely fearless guardians. When The Newfie senses a threat, it will place itself between the perceived threat and it’s human family
My Newf puppy wouldn't let me step into an icy porch. Just absolutely refused. He was 8 months old at the time. He died at 3 from a blood disease, and my heart was broken. Yesterday I got a new Newf puppy and all I want to do is hold him tight. Of all the breeds I've had, they are heads and tails above the rest.
IF you can get a Newf into fighting mode, and IF you try to call it off, the fog will just give you their usual "Sure, boss. As soon as I'm done here."
My Cuddles died over 25 years ago. Cuddles, a rescued pup, was not a Newfoundland, but she resembled a small black bear, so we nicknamed her 'Teddy' - she liked both names. Cuddles was loyal, loving, protective: she was happiest just being with us. Cuddles was the Queen of all dogs. After she died, my family didn't have the heart to get another dog. I would love now to own a Newfoundland, but would not be able to care for a large dog on my own. I remember some 10 years back when the Newfoundland "Josh", won the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. These are the most beautiful dogs.
My family has two newfoundlands and I cannot recommend them enough but they have severe separation anxiety. Both were attached to my father at the hip. My current newfoundland travels everywhere with my father, he goes in the car, to work, on hikes, that dog adores my dad. But they are such sweeties excellent for hugs and general scratching. He's super friendly and excitable, he's a brown boy. But both of our newfoundlands have been so sweet. They have really helped my father with his PTSD.
thousands of years of domestication. love and kindness and patience carried forward, built by our ancestors. dogs are work and effort and love carried to the future for us
I loved watching this video. I live on Lake Ontario in Sandy Pond NY on 11 acres right next to the beach & the newfie I owned would go down to the lake almost daily & spend hrs upon hrs digging in the sand w a huge rock being moved around by her massive paws. There are 2 huge ponds on each side of us,1 backing on our property & that is where she would be if not down at the lake. The people at the beach would tell me how she would go from blanket to blanket to get herself some loving & hopefully a snack or 2 & once done w them would resume her stone digging. Sabbie Sue,nick name for Sabbath, was 1 of the best dogs I've ever owned...she's long since passed as I acquired her in 1978...but she still holds a big place in my heart...RIP SABBIE SUE 1978-1989...
From what I've read and heard from other dog owners, Newfies, Golden Retrievers, Bernese Mountain Dogs, and Bichon Frises are all basically tied for the friendliest, happiest, and most people pleasing dogs you'll ever find. I had a Bichon for 16 years and I can attest to that being the case for Rudy. My wife grew up with Goldens and she says they're just as well behaved as Rudy was. Now we're looking for either a Newfie or a Bernese Mountain Dog to pair with the Great Pyrenees we have, but everyone is getting dogs during the covid crisis so we can't find one anywhere.
Was my first dog, he was so big crowds would form when he stood on two legs he was about 6'10 when on two legs stretching to get the treat, but also a handful of a dog, huge dog and he acted like a puppy and could run in circles forever
"hasslehoffs of the sea" All I could imagine was a thousand David Hasslehoffs splashing around with dog collars and harnesses. Very odd and frightening picture.
Absolutely beautiful dogs!!! Seeing this lovely lady's genuine love for dogs, all dogs, makes me very happy!!! Thank you for sharing your amazing video!!!❤🐾🐾❤
I grew up with two Newfs here in Canada. Teddy lived to 17 years old. When we'd go swimming, Teddy would heard us back in from the lake. EASILY one of the best breeds out there. Amazing with kids!
hello from Newfoundland Canada... when i was small child, our newspaper boy had a Newf. The dog carried the papers and it was high point of my day to see him! fabulous doggies,, who worked pulling carts and generally anything requiring 'pulling' or a saviour from the sea. not so many here now, but plenty of them doing 'public relation work' in tourist venues or in nursing homes. amazing babysitters for small children and are zealous in keeping them safe from water... enjoyed video very much!
Anneka. I thought I knew what cute was when I saw the grown up Newfies but when you showed the babies?? Disgustingly adorable. By the way. Amazing Welsh scenery. Hope you're doing well :-)
Thank you for that story. I hade a male black Newfoundland like 10 years ago that was absolutely lovely and I trusted him 100% and I never once saw him show his teeth in anger or bite another dog even though he himself was attacked a couple of times. He loved the water but wasn't to fond of us humans getting even close to the water. Once he actually swam out after our little rowing boat and jumped into it, almost making it turn over in the water. I do miss that dufus. 😢
I've not heard of the breed before; they're so placid, so kind with an excellent temperament? Amazing, utterly amazing. I LOVE large dogs, I must have one! SHUT UP TAKE MY MONEY! 😍😍😍
I used to drop our dog off at doggie daycare at the same time as two Newfoundlanders and never passed up the chance to play with them a little. They're absolutely wonderful.
My most favourite breed in the world....small fact : remember the dog from the old Disney Peter Pan Animated film call Nana.....Nana was a Newfoundland...now that I think about it, the animators did a fine job of getting down this breeds characteristics & mannerisms in their animation for Nana.
I have always loved dogs and I’ve lived with and met thousands of dogs including lots of Newfoundlands. They are absolutely lovely, calm, friendly dogs. I wouldn’t want to keep one because they are so huge but they are one of my favourite breeds. I am really jealous of Anneka getting to pet a pack of them.
Omg this is absolutely hilarious 🤣
😂
LOL
😂😂😂
That just gave me chills imagine instead of calling his wife he stopped the car and opened the door my god
A friend of mine had an NL dog. His biggest problem was that whenever his kids would go swimming in the ocean, the dog would drag them back to shore XD. Really strong rescue instinct.
We had the same problem with ours in the backyard pool.
Lmao. That’s hilarious 🤣
My brother had to lock his in the house to be able to use his own pool 😂
kids will not drown when these dogs babysit!!
Best breed on the planet :)
comforting
Also a contender for cutest puppies. Did you see those little guys, omg sooooo cute!😊
My Newf slept next to me on the floor. As well.
I envy you so much. I wish I had a newfie in my life.
Hey man can you provide me the contact of your breeder?
I just lost my Chewy, my best friend last Sunday. As soon as I saw the puppies I broke down. These dogs will capture your heart . They are a gift from God. Chewy was 14 years old. I’ll miss him forever
Don't hold back and find yourself a new Newfie when u ready.
@@Dravito94 Thank you! He was my shadow since the day he was born. He actually picked me. He was the second biggest male . He would follow me everywhere when all the other pups were playing.

I miss him.
Two gentlest breeds mixed in one. And you get super friendly and gentle doggie.
Awww that must've been so cutee
I want one of those!
God bless your Bear. 17 years with only one vet visit is incredible - anything that stood out that possibly kept him very healthy? What kind of diet plan did you have him on, and foods that were good to eat vs foods that you never fed him?
Thanks

Bear died with all his bits still attached.

Aw thankyou 🙏💕
Gosh, how I miss my girl Cricket. She was the sweetest and most loyal dog ever. The slobbers (even halfway up the wall), the fur all over everything, the wet dog smell (she loved the ponds), the mud, the slobbery kisses, her love for about everyone she met, her stubbornness at times, her playfulness and goofiness, ......I miss it all.
may she rest in peace, i miss my dog too ❤️
I wonder if the breed is stubborn bc it is aware of its massive size.
I've lost my job, I'm in lockdown, but Anneka and her critters always manage to make me happy.

We used to play hockey on our frozen-over backyard pond and the Newfie would hear the clack clack of hockey sticks and escape her yard to come over and chase the hockey puck.
how did the dog not fall in?
@@justinian536 , thick ice! This was back in the 70's when we had real winters here in southern New England; but in recent years it hasn't been cold enough for consistently safe ice. Hardly anybody gets to skate or go ice fishing these days, and our climate is cool and rainy almost all year long.
During & after WW2 in Gander (my dad worked on the Ferry Command) the Yanks had a Newfie as their masco “ Sailor”. We played with him every day esp. snow days. Oh, dear God what lovely memories.
Actually, part angel.
Our male was 150lbs and never learned he wasn't a lap dog 😂
Boa Gaming cheers lol 😆 My Great Dane was the same way .
The bigger they are, they harder they cuddle...
And the more it hurts when they sit on you!
And you wouldn’t want it any other way
Ha ha ha ha haaaaa, I heard the same thing with a Great Dane.
@Darth Traya I loved it, but boy do you sweat. They are warm puppies, our dogs name was fruit loops. Our son named him 😂
I've had five Newfies over the past 20 years. One lived to 12, another to 13, and another to 15. When they passed the other dogs took it the really hard; they got very depressed.
The best dogs ever and they like to sleep with you. : )
Of course they’re the most friendly, loyal, empathic and gentle dogs....they’re Canadian :)

Omg....he sounds beautiful!
Finally, a breed that wont give me headache bathing them!🥰

You are very mistaken. Lol 😆
@Q Hns Never use shampoo, it destroys the natural oil layer on the coat that repells water
Nope still a task 😅
Oh, buddy, it's still a headache. There will be water EVERYWHERE.
Yea they are very strong 💪
Good luck with that.
I am so jealous. If there was only one thing I could do before I depart this mortal coil, it would be to sit in a pen for hours full of Newfoundland puppies. My heart is aching.
You can! Just call a breeder and ask, im 99,9995% sure they would love to.
That's my dream too!!!
I once had a very photogenic (and large) akita. The only time I ever saw him upstaged was by a gang of Newfie puppies who were rocketing around their enclosure while their parents were carrying out a life-saving display. Sadly, the jacket I had with me didn't have pockets big enough...

Amen Donald. I grew up with Newfoundlands and saint Bernards . they are truly the definition of Gentle Giants
Our newf Gus almost made it to 12 years. He was the best dog ever! He loved our western Canadian cold winters and would pull me with a harness X-country skiing and mountain biking. He loved all people, especially kids. Newfs are wonderful dogs!!

I fell in love with this breed when I was a little kid
Warning sad story
So when I was a little kid there was a Newfoundland who lived around the corner and his name was Bruno.
Aw how sad.. Can't stand to see chained dogs.. Breaks my heart 💔

I was born and raised and still live in Newfoundland. During 9/11 the passengers who were stuck here said they had never met more kind people so it makes sense the Newfoundland dog is just as willing to help people and have so much h empathy. I think they have more than the people they are so sweet.
Awwwww, they are super adorable! The puppies look like living teddy bears.🥰🥰🥰🥰

Powerful, but incredibly gentle and sweet especially for young children.

We used to keep one at the doggie resort. Her name was Ginger and she was the sweetest dog ever!

Those the dogs they ate when they got sick of fishing??

I've always had a Pup that was a 50/50 mix of Golden/ Black Lab and it's always a boy and all black. Best family I've ever had, but now I think my next boy will be a giant Black Newfoundland ! What an awesome breed ! Thank you.
That seems like the most wonderful family friendly doggo to date!
A friend of mine had one of these. Ironically, he was terrified of water! That dog made me fall in love with Newfoundlands. RIP Tank!

I really miss them.
these dogs are the most laid back I have ever seen.. and Beautiful!!!
I'm pretty sure they are part bear.
Excellent documentary. True, you can't leave it with one Newfoundland. Got to have a number of them. Very intelligent. Can be taught many activities.

@@deborahellis7885 so sorry for your loss. I completely agree, the Newfoundland is by far the best dog breed.

My Cuddles died over 25 years ago. Cuddles, a rescued pup, was not a Newfoundland, but she resembled a small black bear, so we nicknamed her 'Teddy' - she liked both names.

After she died, my family didn't have the heart to get another dog.

He's super friendly and excitable, he's a brown boy. But both of our newfoundlands have been so sweet. They have really helped my father with his PTSD.

I loved watching this video.

Was my first dog, he was so big crowds would form when he stood on two legs he was about 6'10 when on two legs stretching to get the treat, but also a handful of a dog, huge dog and he acted like a puppy and could run in circles forever

it was this face that made me fan-boy for these dogs.
Nothing better than snuggling with a big furry moose on a cold night
Thats true :)
there is, it's snuggling with 2 of them
I grew up with two Newfs here in Canada.
As a Newfoundlander it is pernouced newfin LAND as we say here on the island, Newfoundland - Understand . Great video !
I'm not a Newfoundlander, just Canadian, but it was driving me nuts.
As a fellow Canadian, this was really bugging me too haha
get over it
I've not heard of the breed before; they're so placid, so kind with an excellent temperament? Amazing, utterly amazing. I LOVE large dogs, I must have one! SHUT UP TAKE MY MONEY! 😍😍😍
Absolutely beautiful, it's like having your own bear as a pet.🐻
These dogs are the Michael Phelps of the dog world. I love them so much.
I had the pleasure and honor of meeting two beautiful, sweet and playful Newfoundland. One waa named Steinway and the other named Ralph.
