“We’re gonna have to buy a bigger car” is what got me, haven’t even met him already knowing he’s gonna be theirs! I loved this episode, this entire show in general, but it makes me so sad that so many dogs need to be re-homed to begin with because of what’s happened to them.
Dogs are lifelong commitments. Shame on the family who couldn’t be bothered because they were building a new house. He’s better off with his new family.
My 16 yr old brother has depression, and we got a dog when he was 14, it's honestly helped him so so much! She's there at his most down moments, when we can't help him, and she seems to!
It seems like they did the best they could in the situation they were in. The felt they were neglecting the care and love the dogs need due to a busy lifestyle likely back and forth and therefore made sure he was somewhere he would get everything he needs and find an amazing family.
I would have lived in a cardboard box rather than get rid of my dog…. My newfy lived till she was 11 and she took my heart when she passed …. Fly high baby girl …..
Exactly. I will not leave this earth until my three dogs have reached the ends of their natural lives. It's doing right by them and showing them the same love and loyalty they have shown me.
Nothing would make me abandon mine. One I’ve had from a puppy and the other is an ex-racing greyhound who was abused and used, then discarded at the shelter when she was no longer of “use.” I adore them both and feel guilty if I leave them for a few hours!!
'I cannot understand giving up a dog because you "don't have the time because you're building a house." The only time I had to rehome a dog was when my 1st son was born & our Basenjis were dangerously jealous. Fortunately, my younger sister took both the Basenjis & when she could no longer have them where she was living, my parents stepped up & everyone ended up being happy. But that's not always the case.
I'm always glad when they show families adopting a bigger dog. Sometimes shelters really struggle to find a place for bigger dogs, especially breeds with a bad reputation, even if that dog is suitable for a family.
I love how the wife just smiles & says we're going to need to buy a bigger car, yet they haven't met him yet.... That family got exactly what they wanted..... A Complete Family ❣️
I rescued Sammy at age 2 years. He was part Neuffie, chow and border collie. 85 lbs. Never been in a house or trained. I drop dead fell in love. He was my best friend for 11 years and still missed.
The previous owners are a piece of work. Their pet interfered with their new house!!! Not that the dog isn't better off because he certainly is, but giving up a pet is like giving up a child. I know that is how I have always felt about all my pets. I would no more give up a either one . Some people are just SO selfish. His new family knows the score tho. They are so generous and loving.......well done, Rocky!
Newfoundlands do great with kids! They are just really big sweethearts! ❤ my local ski patrol at my home mountain uses newfoundlands and burnese mountain dogs. They love giving attention to not only the patients to help calm them down, but after the ski school lets out they love to play with the kids. The dogs actually bring them tennis balls and frisbees for them to throw so they can fetch them for fun.
My family used to have a Newfoundland, lab, Irish wolfhound cross dog and he was the most gumpy cuddly gentle giant. He made it to 15 years old. He was nearly 6ft when on his hind legs. Miss him loads xx
I have three Newfoundlands. And they were all oresent while we had major rennovation work done to our house. They were all completely fine, and were actually very excited to see how the house looks now. There is no excuse for a family to abandon them just because they had a new house being built. I am ashamed.
Put a lump in my throat. Family gave him up after 7 yrs, I wonder if they gave up the other dog. The young boy needing and making connection was so touching, 😘
Newfoundlands require large amounts of interaction, more than most breeds. I have a 1 year old Newf and he's happiest when he's around groups of people or other dogs. He's rather sluggish when it's just him and me alone in the house, but he perks up when I take him to visit other people or to the dog park to play with other dogs.
The amount of anger hearing 7 years old and abandoned by his family, I'm glad Rocky found a family that seems to love and need him as much as he needs them. Newfies are the sweetest.
This is one of the CLASSIC 'boy and his dog' type of stories. It is impossible to resist this type of dog that just fits in so easily. This family needed Rocky as much as he needed them and they are magic together. Thank you for sharing this.
I know someone who was building a new house and got rid of their 4 yo German Shepard because they didn’t want a “mess” in their new house. we are not friends anymore, I just couldn’t stand listening to their nonsense.

We have rescued one Newf cross (golden) and one pure Newf. The most loyal and loving dogs. They don't call them velcro dogs for nothing. Charlie our Newf cross passed away a couple of years ago, but Molly our brown Newf, gives us joy every day. As I write this, Molly is sleeping on top of my feet. lol
He looks so much like my beloved Kirby, Newfie/Golden retriever mix, the most mellow, LOVING fella ever. LOVED swimming in river or lake or splashing in our kiddie pool but happy to let his sister Golden retriever run and chase balls. Loved lying outside in blizzards buried in snow (only time he was probably not hot) and had to make him come in but liked being an indoor lapdog. He wasn't drooly but his hair blew a couple times a year-- flying fuzzballs despite combing. LOL I miss you Kirb. ❤️
Pathetic people giving up a beautiful boy, all for vanity! I am so happy this family and this beauty found each other… so much better in the end for him❤so gentle.

Mixed emotions for the excellent staff who have cared for Rocky and are obviously extremely fond of him but will be delighted to see him go to such a great family.
What a beautiful boy. What a perfectly precious family for Rocky to be loved by. I’m rather glad that the former owner gave him up. (I would never do this but some people don’t really care) Rocky really scored with his new home.

My husband,a native Newfoundlander, and I have seen these beautiful gentle giants many times, in person. They are incredibly sweet natured and contented dogs. Dan needs to give him lots of attention to be a good companion. Spending time with Rocky, being attentive and kind to him will ensure Dans bond with Rocky. yes they are messy and their coat is super thick. BTW, this dog is considerably smaller than most Newfies. They are usually the size of a big Golden, bordering on Great Dane. Must be the GS mix.

What terrible people!! They couldn't juggle his care while there building their new house. AWFUL PEOPLE!! I HOPE THEY CHOKE ON THEIR SAWDUST. I'm so happy that Rocky found a new and much better family
I consider my dogs family members and could never give them away. His first owners released him to be adopted by a family that will cherish him forever. They could have just abandoned him but they did put him in a position to be cared for and eventually adopted.
Our second rescue dog was unwanted by the previous owners. He was very quiet first few weeks while settling in, spent a lot of time under the kitchen table obviously feeling abandoned and confused. Now though he's fully settled in, has his routine, little bit of fuss first thing in the morning, out to go to the toilet, runs back in to be fed then off to the home office or wherever I'm in the house. Love him to bits, he'll never be abandoned again.
"he's amazing" ALL dogs are amazing,I wish I had the space and the money to adopt thousands of dogs and give them a second chance, sending blessings from England
That was so lovely. Happy dog and happy family. Sometimes I watch this series and I'm screaming at the telly DONT GIVE THEM A DOG. But this was a match made in heaven.

I have 2 newfoundlands and knowing how sensitive the breed is, it puts me to tears to see one in a shelter and sad and lonely.
they do suffer from depression
Awww...that does sound heartbreaking. The breed is legendary for their giant hearts ❤
I wish they didn’t cost 4000$ :(

As the mother of a neurodivergent teen who was diagnosed with depression age 13, I can say that getting a dog was the best decision I ever made.

I'm so happy for Rocky.
right?!
