The German shepherd is definitely a king of all breeds; the only one that has it all - the looks, the smarts, loyalty, and devotion. On top of that they're the most regal while being enormously cute at the same time
@@unalnurettin6827 b r u h CHILL YOU JUST RUINED THE WHOLE MOOD. what they mean is that gsd are in some ways better than other dogs like intelligence(ranked 3rd smartest dog in the world) bite force (ranked 2nd to the rottweiler cause it has 108 kg of force) and over all obediance and how trainable they are so stop hating 😒🤦♀️ and im not saying other dogs are lower than them. They are all lovable amazing creatures in their own ways
German Shepherds are the most special breed of dog. I just cried when they talked about Finn as I just KNOW that our German Shepherd wouldn’t think twice about protecting us with his life.
Your German shepherd would have been culled by the Germans. No German shepherd that doesn't protect should be living imo. This is where the problems begin
German Shepherds are the best. Paws down! I have had 2 females and they are so smart, loving and protective just by natural instinct. My current girl Cali has a doggie door that is open 24/7 and she can come inside whenever she wants to BUT she chooses to stay outside during the night to protect us. Sometimes she sneaks in after 2 am and catches a couple of hours but the rest of the time she is on watch while we are asleep. I have 5 acres fenceless and she has never taken a step off the property without me there with her. They have an instinct for property lines and that is why they are called a moving fence when they protect a herd. The most amazing thing is when she sees kids. She goes all wiggly and ears down in the most unthreatening body language possible. Then she licks and loves on them like nothing else.
You are so true about there character,I had a female German Shepherd dog as small child, they stick to you like supper glue, also they are great judges of strangers character, the have a built-in third sense.
J. D. Yes I’m afraid I have. My first I adopted at 1 yo and I only ever saw her have a small scuffle with the dog next door. She was protective of her turf. She was fine with the 7 others we had at the time and actually literally shaped their behaviors. She taught my little Boston to not chase my car when I left. It was amazing to watch the process. My current one I adopted at 6 and have had her 18 months. She is very territorial with the dogs next door and that is what she spends most of her time guarding against. She just doesn’t seem to like them. She is always watching the end of my driveway no fences between properties. 4 months ago I adopted a 5 yo female pit bull and Cali wasn’t having any of that and she started 2 fights because pit bull challenged her for her sticks. I had to rehome the Pitt bull. Was sad because she was very sweet. But then I have seen Cali be totally sweet with other dogs. She reads them immediately and knows if she isn’t going to like them. She often tests them with a small lunge forward. If they back off then they are ok. I have never seen another dog not back off. I think it’s just a case of don’t challenge me. I found them both to be very alpha. But when I first brought her home my other two dogs immediately accepted her and not a single moment of any issue. At the end of they day they are just protecting their territory and everyone in their herd... cats dogs and family.
J. D. That’s a bummer. Maybe you are right and it is because she is growing up and feeling tougher. Was it on her turf or neutral ground? I admit that with Cali I always am on guard if and when we are walking near other dogs. I am in the country so walk her off leash. Each day we pass 4 dogs who are behind an invisible fence and they bark like crazy but she just keeps walking past them 10 yards from them and ignores them. I wish I was expert enough to advise you but I’m just a regular pet person. Sometimes you just don’t know the personality that is going to come out in a pup later on.
@J. D. Hi,Anneka had a problem with 2 alpha females who cannot get on,by the way they are not German Shepherd's,one is a wolfdog 🐺 hybrid the other is a Rottweiler cross who she rescued from Romania, due to a flook, they both came face with each other and the result was 💥 Anneka intervened to separate them and got badly bitten on her hand and leg, no she does not have a German Shepherd problem, she does not have German Shepherd dogs,Anneka has 2 hybrid alpha females who hate each other intensely and would fight to the death of they got half a chance to do so.
@J. D. Also in the video link I sent there is a 13 pound Boston Terrier, that is Cali's sister Tinkerbell. Cali has no problem with Tinkerbell helping herself to food out of Cali's bowl. So overall she is a very chill but high drive GSD. I think in your case you are just seeing your Shepherd's ultimate personality and character forming. They learn very quickly and as long as she learns it is not ok to attack other dogs, she will get it. I think it is just part of the socialization process and in becoming who she is. Work with it and you will be greatly rewarded when she matures. Put some treats in your pocket when you go to the dog park. When she shows the behavior you want around other dogs. Treat her and praise her. She will learn quickly.
My favorite GS girl, Ayla saved me from three would-be muggers a few years back. She was very protective of my wife and my girls and even stopped a wanna-be burglar when I was not home one time. Sadly, she has passed now. I pray she will be waiting for me on the other side when my turn comes. She could not have loved more nor could she ever be loved enough.
Hey guys. How do you feed them raw food? I mean what are the processes of doing it? I have got a 4 yr old belgian malinois and usually I feed him some boiled ground beef mixed with rice and kibble. Also from time to time I add some veggies on it. Hopefully I wanna change his diet by feeding him raw food and I've searched a couple online but I just wanna know from first-hand exp. coming from y'all on how to do it. Hopefully y'all can help me out. Thanks in advance.
@@marcopierre8494 The rule is 80/10/10. 80% muscle meat 10% organ meat 10% bone I started feeding raw late into my dog's lives and was concerned they wouldn't chew properly so I found a place (after months of searching) that offers raw food ground in chubs. The next dog I get will be introduced to raw as a puppy so I'll get away from ground, probably. You can feed chicken leg quarters, chicken feet are great (full of glucosamine and chondroitin), liver, heart, lung, gizzards etc, chicken frames/backs (turkey as well), cuts of beef, whatever. Just make sure they are getting organ meat and bone in appropriate amounts. If you can find a source, goat meat is good, rabbit, whatever. If you feed wild game, you need to be careful because of potential parasites. Any bone you feed needs to be able to be chewed by your dog...they won't be able to chew up a leg bone from a cow, for example, and it could cause damage to teeth. Vegetables are good in small amounts. When you cook meat it kills all the living enzymes and things that dogs need. If you can find a source , green tripe is extremely healthy, great for the digestive system and my dog's LOVE it. Raw eggs, shell and all, are great...protein and calcium all in one package. My dog's don't always eat the shells but they are fine to feed. Rule of thumb is feed 2% to 3% of your dogs body weight, but will vary depending on your unique dog. My dog is hypothyroid and could not lose weight. He is now at a healthy weight thanks to raw. Raw feeding is the best thing you can do for your dog. Dogs have a shorter GI tract and stronger digestive juices so they can eat raw food that.may have "bad" bacteria in it and their bodies naturally handle it.
@@marcopierre8494 If you have more questions I'll try to help as best I can. You'll need a scale to weigh the meat at first so you'll be aware of how much you are feeding. Your dogs teeth will be clean, too! With a dog of that size I probably wouldn't be concerned about it not chewing well for most things he or she would be fed. My dogs are 30 lbs and are gulpers, and one almost choked on a chicken wing so I went to ground. Watch out for chicken and turkey necks...they can be choking hazards for your dog if he/she doesn't chew well.
I have straight hip one German Shepherd and most people told me he is not original one , original one is a one which is with low hip, but bcz of this video I can explain them which one is a pure line ,thanks for ur kind information "Whatever people say I love my dog"
I had someone tell me the same thing so I just showed them a couple photos of a GSD in 1900, 1910, 1930. All straight. It wasn't until the '50s and '60s in America that the slope was added for aesthetic purposes. In our GSD community, we use the terms American and True (or German German Shepherd), Straight and Sloped.
In the US the man who stabbed Finn would have been charged with attempted murder or at least assaulting a police officer. K-9 are considered officers like humans.
Candace Rodriguez ive seen countless stories of hundreds of US military dogs who’ve saved so many lives shipped off to places like Jordan where they’re abused, mistreated and starved.
I've had German Shepherds my whole life. This breed,to me, is the ultimate all around breed. If you're looking for a family pet that is a really good protector this is the best breed. They are great with kids and are very very loyal. Very smart dogs!! I absolutely love this breed!!!
Love to see the stories about dogs. I never had a dog, until my daughter decided to get one when she started medical school. But soon, she figured it was not easy to take care of the dog while in medical school. So, I ended up with a most beautiful White German Shepherd called Bellissima. (There are pictures of her on my Channel). With the first light of the day, I could hear her shaking herself, and waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs to celebrate the arrival of the new day. Just seeing her expressive eyes, and her long ears moving side to side, warms my heart. She is not only beautiful, but also very intelligent. She knows when I put down my reading glasses and pick up my regular eye glasses, it is time for a walk.
In my admittedly biased opinion, the German Shepherd IS the King of all breeds. Their intelligence, problem solving, and decision making ability will never cease to amaze and surprise. Had a 107 lb bi-color male GSD who only had obedience, not protection, training. One night a man who must've had an IQ in the single digits came at me screaming and with a raised hand. My GSD didn't bark, didn't even bother to growl, he just lunged. He had never exhibited protection behavior prior to this. It was incredible to experience and amazing to know my buddy had my back (or, in this case, my front...); and, this from the same dog who a few yrs later while in the down position with head up at an outdoor music festival, did nothing but lick the face of an 8 yr girl who out of the blue ran at him, jumped and landed with a leg on each sided of his front legs, her face less than a foot from his. (I politely suggested to her father who ambled up a moment later, that, this wasn't the best way to approach a strange dog...). Geez, I worshipped that big lovable lug.
I love dogs of every size, shape & variety but GSDs have an extra special place in my heart❤️. Having owned two of them I can attest they are extraordinarily intelligent, loving & fearless. GSDs are God’s gift to us!!
@@mysteriousu5528 uhhhh now thats a bit exagerated. If they had a human brain wouldn't they be walking, talking, making houses, making computers, learn to use the toilet to keep their garden or backyard clean, take care of themselves (feeding bathing and all etc.)
they are germanys gift to us ;) but i wouldn't go so faar to equate germany with god, especially because it doesn't look very good when we germans do that, idk why.
I have a 1 year old working line GSD. She is amazing with my toddler and new borns. She always protects the house. And she is super intelligent. I could not have asked for a better companion! German Shepherds will forever be favorite breed
@@tomaguilar3422 I am sorry for your loss. People who never had dogs kept saying "Come on, it's a pet. Have a sense of perspective ". For me he was my son. Period. (I'll even concede that I may even have a few loose screws floating around in my head).
we just adopted a 5 year old german shepherd from the rescue and he makes the friendliest family pet and yet a perfect guard dog naturally. we're so lucky to have him :)
Grew up with a German Shepard in the city. He was super protective of me as a little girl, from other people, while still being so gentle towards me. He never scared me.... just other people if they seemed sketchy 😂 He always let me squeeze him tight 🤗 without aggression.
So many breeds have been nearly destroyed by the 'show' kennels...it has been the dedication of the true working kennels that have saved many wonderful breeds and kept the true type alive whether sporting or working breeds. Please give Finn a nice scratch behind the ear for me.What a champ!!!
That slope you see is actually what they originally had for herding sheep. The straight back is actually what was bred into them once they became military/ police dogs because they didn't have to have the gait show lines have for herding and the straight back helps them be more athletic. The hip problems they have aren't because of that slope but because it's such a common breed and there are so many faulty lines. Propper health testing will make sure the dog doesn't have that.
I have 5 German shepherds. I live in rural Kenya and they've literally saved my life more times than I can count. My only male fought 5 dogs who attacked us while on our walk. He suffered horrible wounds saving my life. I hate hate what people are doing to these beautiful dogs. The exaggerated sloping back is a travesty.
@Tony Ojiambo who talked about kangal here? Kangal is a livestock guardian dog while german shepherd is a superior personal protection dog. No need to compare or say one is better than other. In a lot of factors, german shepherd is many times superior to kangal and in many other factors kangal is superior to german shepherd.
I love this breed. My father had two. He is still talking about them. I am not wondering. Their loyalty is no joke. I remember my friend's grandma had German shepherd, called Ron. The sweetest dog I had ever met. When I was talking to him, he was answering with little barks. He was so gentle. I love this breed. By the way, amazing video.
I absolutely love my German Shepherd. He has already proved his loyalty at a young age with no training! At only 11 months old we had a drink guy walking towards us one day saying many inappropriate things, I was getting very nervous and my boy stopped our walk, and stood in front of me with a low growl, the closer the guy got, the louder Fenrir got until he was full on machine gun barking as I call it and they guy took off running away. Since then I have found that Fenrir is the most loving pup, excited to meet anyone and everyone, unless I get nervous for whatever reason. At that point he won't let anyone near me so as long as I'm calm, he is calm and that's all I can ask for. Same happen on another walk once. Someone came up and was talking to me about him, petting him and then the guy started to get rude and I got uncomfortable and it was like a switch flipped, Fen pushed the guys hand away and took up a defensive position between us. Not lunging or biting but also not letting the guys within 5 feet of me because he pushed him back.
mine left a huge heartache in my heart forever. I will never ever forget about him. I was 16 years old back then.... now I'm 43 and had lots of other pets of different species but everytime i think of my GS... my heart breaks. He was my biggest heartbreak of all time. to this day, i missed him so much. the things we do and his smell.
i'm sorry for your loss. he will be with you forever and he is running freely in doggie paradise. May God bless his soul for eternity until you meet again
Wow 7 good for you i have a almost 6 month working line same color as the puppy in the video ... Trying talked the hubby into her a friend maybe next year 😉
I've had this breed for 40 years. An old type (pre 1980s/90s bloodlines) GSD was simply the best dog on the planet. The sloping back show lines are a travesty and completely nonsensical but I have found not all of the working lines to be stable. If you find a good one (and there are still some) never let it go! Btw it's definitely not all just about how you raise them. Genetics plays the major part - bad handling can ruin a good GSD but good handling can't make a good dog if the genetic temperament and instincts aren't there.
The bottom line now is that the breed has expanded out so far from what Max Emil Friedrich von Stephanitz was originally breeding that you could have two German Shepherds that might as well be different breeds. I think the lesson here is you have to buy from a breeder that is breeding what you are looking for temperament, health, and train-ability wise. Breeding dogs for appearance(show) is exactly the opposite of this. Again every breeder regardless of the breed NEEDS to focus primarily on: -Temperament -Health -Train-ability end of story
I love German Shepherds. I rescued an abandoned Shepherd named Heidi. She lived to be about 11 years, and i was heartbroken after she died. I went to several breeders to get another dog and saw they all had that sloping back that I thought hideous. I wound up going to a shelter and adopted Albert a German Shepherd with a great personality, and a straight normal back.
Had a German Shepard growing up. He was indeed very gentle with me when I was a little girl and if any stranger got too close to me, he would become very alert (guard me). I could hug the heck out of him and he would remain calm! They’re also incredibly fast and elegant.
The showlines have absolutely destroyed this breed. Dogs should not be walking on their hocks, it says all you need to know when the police, protection dogs etc use the straight backed ones. Dogs arent play doh stop trying to mould them for vanitiy's sake
I have one of showlines but has the straight back.. In Norway /Scandinavia we have several showdogs that are hard to see if it is a show or a workline dog.. But they always have the regular black/tan... sadly i see many countries who are producing "frogs" insetad of healthy dogs.. :( So sad.. the best breed in the world...
Robert A. Lofgren Jr. health wise they are not ideal. Showlines are bred mainly for looks not temperament, not functionality, not to fit the breed standard. They are generally unhealthy but this goes for most dogs with a showline variant. There is zero benefit for a gsd to have a slanted back it doesnt help with anything according to biomechanics and promotes joint issues. They can be fine pets but they would make Max Emil Friedrich von Stephanitz sick to see
My best friend has a German shepherd with a proper straight back. He named her Valkyrie because she's a ferocious little gal, loves running around and playing and when someone tried to break into his house she all but broke down to door to attack them. She's a good girl and our whole friend group just adores her :)
My sweet rescue, Valkyrie was abandoned at a cemetery in southwest Detroit. A friend of mine who works there was able to catch her. Now she is home with me and Queen of the castle. She is so smart and beautiful. I've definitely fallen in love with this breed. 🐾
I had to say goodbye to my beautiful GSD named Luna at 9 years old. She was my very first dog and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. She was handful as a puppy but all the hard work we put in together as a team was well worth it. German shepherd dogs are honestly one of the best breeds. Luna was brave and protective but very gentle with my family. Rest easy my Moon.
They are the best dogs ever! We are enjoying our new puppy Uzi a LOT! She is our second German Shepherd. The first one we lost just before Christmas. 13 years of love, devotion, loyalty and great friendship!
yep me too, although my latest is a big white fluff ball he's every bit a gsd as his darker buddies. I don't think i've visited the loo alone for 30 odd yrs either. it's an act of cruelty to leave their sides according to them 😂
My gorgeous thoroughbred GSD was a beautiful, gentle and intelligent lady. I got her from dogs trust. My best friend, but so refined genetically that she died horrifically from a twisted gut. I’ve missed her for 9 years. And hopefully I will have the ware with all to adopt another. My Sasha had the lowest slanted hips. RIP babe. X
Lady Wintergreen that's so sad, people really need to know about the dangers of bloat and the signs of when your dog has bloat because it happens so quickly. If you are a shepherd owner or have a "Large Chested Dog" please go inform yourself on bloat it'll save you so much stress and heartache.
Lady Wintergreen, If ever you get another GSD never let it run 1 hour before he/she eats until 1 hour after he/she eats. Don't give much water while they are out running around as well. Sorry for your loss. Hope you get another GSD.💔💔
I'm also very happy to see that it's the beginning of the end of these sloped back show breeds!! They're finally realizing that the dogs are unable to function with SHORT BACK LEGS!!! it's not appealing to the eye anyway!
I just wanted to say that I have a 2 year old white German Shepherd dog with a straight back/rectangular body and when she is warmed up from running ,she stands with her back legs angled backward yet one leg is always farther than the other!! That beautiful stance is natural for German Shepherd dogs as is lifting a paw and pointing at prey for an English pointer or similar breeds!!
In Norway they was starting to consider to ban sloped back GSD. Then all breeders started to be more careful and stopped breading sloped back Shepherds. I finally found a Perfect GSD with great genes, his father is from Germany so he’s very pure blooded. I expect to pick the puppy up the next week. Can’t wait 😊 (Edit he his basicly a old type GSD in his head to. Actully some hard to Control him. From 9-10 weeks he began to try to be dominant. We tried all to shut him down. Now he don’t have random craziness but he still have bad habits. We working on it but looks like he will be a great work dog.)
@@jmartinez9912 The difference is, your WGSD is taking this stance on her own. She is not permanently in that stance because of genetic skeletal mutilation
I have a black czech working line german shepherd. He is 7 months old and he is very smart, learning very very fast, and we are having so much fun training him. He is also very kind and goofy. I love him!
I agree completely. I'm on my second and am not interested in any other breed now. The only "problem" with the German Shepherd is they are thieves. They will steal your heart in no time...
I was never much of a dog person but my Shepard Rex has changed my mind. He and my Siamese are like brothers separated at birth now and I wouldn't want any dog other than a Shepard. Such a beautiful animal all around.
I fell in love with the breed as a kid when I watched K-9 the movie (with James Belushi). I've wanted one all my life but I'm waiting until I have the money and the space. They are absolutely incredible and I get choked up even watching them protect in even these fake robberies. Such good dogs!!
Great movie... K-9 Koton actually worked for the Kansas City Police Department too which is a neat fact. Hopefully you’ll have your own partner soon, they’re amazing.
I had a rescue "purebred" GSD and he was wonderful, a real handsome best friend & so good. Unfortunately, he had hip & rear spine issues that caused his last years to be challenging - it was hard to see. I had to say goodbye when he was 13 and was so blessed to have him in my life! He showed up at my door when he was six (breeder microchipped so I got his history but could not find his owner), a real gift from God. It was a privilege to have a friend like that. 💖💗
Finn, omg that dog is just an angel! As most people, I love all kinds of dogs, but German Shepherds have a most special place in my heart. All dogs are loyal yes, but this guys go above and beyond what the word loyal can describe. What a beautiful breed!
I grew up with my father's police shepherd who was of the old, healthy breed. He was a loving family dog but also a protecting family member and an excellent working dog. He made me fall in love with german shepherds dogs.
Had the joy of living with a very large GSD alpha for 11 and 1/2 years. Superb family pet, who protected said family in various occasions, despite no special training. My primary focus, bringing him up from a pup, was that he should be sociable, to friendly people, especially kids, and other animals. A great dog to be around, as many visitors would testify. He would be more likely to lick a friendly person than bite them. An attacker, or home intruder however, would be a different matter, as proven on more than one occasion. I was gutted when he died. A truly great dog, with a huge, loving personality..
Ian McSherry, Thank you for responding back. You gave your GSD 11 1/2 years of a good life as did did. My last one passed at 11 1/2. It is tuft to see them go. You have a great weekend.🙂😂
Our GSD - Husky Mix saved a toddler running into the river when the mother was busy with her baby. He blocked the little one by constantly laying in front of her between the water and her until we caught up. He was never trained to do that! Still gets gifts for His help from the family, and has the fantastic relationship with children in general, they can do anything, he loves it. But adults with bad energy, better stay away. He won't bite, but He will attack when someone uninvited steps on our property. Also he will defend the weaker when being bullied, brought back a stolen toy to the right canine owner from the thief, more than once, incredible speed. We love him - dogs are the best❤
One of my fave episodes because German Shepherds are one of my fave dogs. Absolutely gorgeous when they have the straight back. Shame on the breeders that aim for the show line. And Finn is absolutely adorable and sweet. I hope they extend sentencing in that law.
My aunt had one, beautiful dog, very protective of her home and family. Every time I visited my aunt, first knock at the door and she'd woof woof woof, until my uncle calmed her, and then once we came in she was all over us with licks and cuddles.
Best dogs ever! Grew up with 4 and now have a working line girl, 2,5 years old. She absolutely adores children and is basically attached to my leg when we are together. Our daughter (12,5 yo) does IGP dogsport with her.
I LOVE German Shepherds!!! I’ve had King, and Samson, both fully white. They were the BEST dogs, ever!!! And l loved what you showed me. I’m in the USA 🇺🇸. God bless you!!!
My first and only dog was a German Shepard. Absolutely amazing dog and loved member of the family. Not sure if he was a working line but he was a beautiful specimen. Amazing with family, super intelligent, loyal and a great personality. Miss him dearly.
I love my GSD. We got a Shina Inu first and she got lonely...We then got our GSD one year later and he's the dog I never knew I needed. He's so loyal and loving. He's super protective of us (me especially). I consider him my youngest son.
My German Shepherd is the work breed and he is 120 pounds he is not fat he is is a tall, long bulky dog and he is not over weight he is just one of those rare occurrences where the dog is bigger than normal and I love him so much. He doesn’t like other adults that he doesn’t know but he will protect any kid because there was an example but it is too long to explain. He protects his house too. He loves kids and protects them
My family had a German Shepard when I was in school, he protected me from a Rottweiler one day when we were out walking. He was spaded when he was a pup so I thought he wouldn’t be brave ( young boys thinking ) this Rottweiler came running out of a yard straight towards me, and to my surprise my boy Sheppy stood his ground and made the Rottweiler back off from me. I will never forget his bravery and love for me. Most beautiful best mate I ever had.
That GS story with the knife stabbing got me in the feels - to think how many of these precious creatures lose their lives trying to protect & serve ... Ofc there must be a law to protect them back - loyalty is a street that goes both ways
Anneka. German Shepherds are amazing dogs. One of my favourite breeds :-) Can't believe owners today won't preserve how these dogs should look like :-( . By the way. What an amazing dog Finn is. Risking his life to protect his owner. :-)
I bought a working line black female German Shepard, I'd never owned a dog before...now I wouldn't be without her, best thing I've ever done, the family love her so much. She's great with other dogs and people, obedient and loyal.
My family had a GSD growing up and he literally gave his life for our other dog when they were both attacked by a large wild animal (we assume it was a cougar). We lived in a rural wooded area and our old English Sheepdog came back with her side slashed open. We never saw our German Sheperd again after that and assumed it died protecting our other female dog. Such guardian angels these dogs are
What impresses me the most about the GSD is their level of intelligence and strength. No stranger is going just approach you or accost you and not give up their name, rank, and serial number!!!
I highly highly recommend you going to talk to a showline German Shepherd breeder. Many of them still do sports. It will be very interesting to watch especially discussing “straight back” gsd’s and how much different a dog looks just by a stack.
Love German Shepherd dogs. So beautiful. I met a big proper straight back boy named Max in Marine Park, Brooklyn while walking today. So intelligent he was! He leaned right against my leg when I met him. Loved that boy. :)
People are cruel and are the real monsters . Finn so extraordinary , fantastic and heroic and I'm glad a law has been passed to save our dogs from such dangerous attacks
Thank you Aneka 👍 Today, Von Stefanitz would be proud of the continuity of the breed he created with the working line but would be appalled by the show line. GSD are "the dog". They are unique, even their bark is specific to the breed, they talk all the time. So intelligent they work in all tasks. Finn demonstrates how loyal they are and always instinctively wanting to please and protect their humans.
Why girl!! you couldn't have picked a better time to post this video . I recently lost my "Dinky" Grizzly On February 13th it's been a couple weeks and it's the worst. I'm so devastated I loved him he was my first Shepherd, my second dog ever . He suffered from awful health and back problems, Unfortunately he jumped on the bed one day and dislocated a disk in his back and was paralyzed from the mid-back down. That wasn't the worst thing tho, he could no longer urinate on his own what so ever. We wheeled him into the vet because he was around 115 and unable to be carried. The vet told us we had to make a decision and might have one day to decide. Anyway not to rant but he was 9 and being very uneducated on the breed, dogs in general . We did what we had to so he was no longer in pain . We would have done the chair but it's no way for him to live. He passed peacefully home with his entire family around him with a full belly of roast beef. My next companion will be a shepherd and I will never own a show GSD ever again and they honestly should not be breed them to begin with. Thank you for the video helps me more then you know.
Sorry for your loss I really am. I lost my boy of 11 Christmas eve just gone. It kills so bad even now still. Always go for a working line dog it will always be healthier but you must do something with the dog. Work it in some way. Even if it means chasing a tug toy and playing games like that
I’ll always treasure the memory of the Shepard I grew up with, Diesel. He sported an incredible orange - hued back, fur of which I’ve not seen the like of since. I remember that he used to pace around and around the house, in and out of every single room, peering out of windows, listening to any and all sounds, for almost the entirety of the night. For ‘ breaks ‘ from patrolling he’d leap up on my bed, still mostly awake and alert, leaving me next to no space ! Our family shall always remember a family friends little daughter of 3 or 4 leading him along, quite literally, on a mere thread tied to his collar. He absolutely loved children, and I’ll miss him for the entirety of my life.
Going to make me cry, he looks just like the dog i had. It has been like 3 years since he passed, and I'm still sad. I miss him so much. These dogs are definitely not the same as other dogs. If i ever get another dog, it has to be a GSD.
My husband is serving overseas with our two shepard dogs. Our girl Hannah is all black, and Klaus is black /tan. He has front legs that at sit, go on like a super models LOL.
GSD's will always be my favourite breed. Lost my beautiful girl this past valentines day. As well as being a best buddy, the home just doesn't feel as secure now Bella isn't here. Whenever I'd leave the front or back door open during summer she'd just lay at the threshold watching out. Or sit at the end of the drive, ears pricked up, just scanning up and down the street while I was doing garden work or washing the car. I miss her so much.
As the owner of a protection trained german shep, I can honestly say that I have never had a more loyal, or more loving dog. My shepsky is smarter and I just put that down to a fluke, and my shep is still only 1 year old and needs time to settle into life. I cannot stand what theyve done to the breed with the show line, in fact I think one day it will be considered abusive to breed them that way with the bad back and hips. Just like how we now consider cropping ears to be cruel today but 100 years ago it was simply what one did. Love all your videos, always excellent information and NO LIES.
brisette maribelle, Not true at all. i have had 6 GSD and all were American show line. All were healthy, strong, smart, very protective, and very friendly. 1 had the slope and he was just as great as the other straight backs. The angulated one could run as fast as a Cheetah. I get very angry when people are posting bad things about the show line. There are many good GSD breeders out there who are good and many who are not good. The most recent one I have now is all black, longhaired, powerful, agile, alert, healthy, and very protective and friendly with everyone. what a beauty he is. He weighs 125 pounds and the head on him is quite large as well. He gets more compliments than any other GSD I ever had. People tell me he looks like a bear. So my point is you can still have a show line GSD and have a great dog.😊😊👍👍🦴🦴👮♀🐕🦺🐕🦺
Love the working line shepherds they look so healthy. You can almost tell: when the fur lines are blurred and not clear, probably a working line. I hope you do a video on the very ancient WOLFSPITZ/GERMAN SPITZ/KEESHOUND/AMERICAN ESKIMO "conglomerate" soon because these are magnificent dogs
Are you referring to sable coat colors? If so, then that would be because show lines attempt to breed it out for more popular patterns, such as saddle backs. European show lines tend to bred for deep reds and vivid colors, and American Show line GSDs usually have MUCH paler colors than other lines. The sable coat is actually the original GSD coat color, which might explain why it's so common in Working Line GSDs. Working lines are not being bred for high specific coats, so more of the original coat color gene pools are left intact. On a side note, exceptions for each line exist. Sable Showline GSDs are often prized as rare dogs and some Working line GSDs have "Show Like" colors, such as a deep red and black saddle back.
I love animal watch, this exact video is what sold me in getting my German shepeherd! I'm trying to video as much progress as I can as they grow SO FAST! Thanks for your amazing videos you gave my lovely little german shep a loving home!
I grew up next door to a quite famous K9 named Thunder. Once he retired and his owner still worked he used to come sit and watch me and my cousins on my grandparents property. In my opinion, a stable, healthy GSD, Rott, or AMPT is about the best you can do.
From my perspective at 9:55 the dog was completely passive and the decoy was active (it should be the other way around - active dog/ passive decoy). The dog probably wasn't finished though and they only went this way to illustrate the scenario.
Vegas reminds me of our German Shepherd. The way he keeps his focus on that trainer, typically well trained GS. Beautiful dogs. Excellent for active and experienced dog owners. Do not recommend this dog to people who haven’t a lot of time to train them or keep them occupied. They need to be engaged. Love to work for you!
Owned shepherds for well over 25 years. All my dogs have come from Germany. They're wolves in sheep's clothing; strong temperaments yet beautiful as well. They are NOT overly angulated, with roche backs! Many have obtained SchH titles, some of which have been shown at both Sieger Shows in the USA & Germany. Great video, I enjoyed watching every minute of it. I'll be soon looking for an all black shepherd, maybe Protection Dogs can help?
angulation is actually extremely important to the breed. the angulation allows them to trot efficiently and effectively while conserving as much stamina as possible. working lines are bred for biting, not herding, which is the reason for the difference. doesn’t mean one is better than the other. they’re just different lines made for different things!
German shepherds are definitely one of these smartest dogs I've had and I've had a lot of all kinds of different dogs. They are Sharp and obedient and family oriented. These are true protectors
Omg. That true story of the German shepherd saving his owner, him watching him dying and caring for him, despite his fatal wound actually made me cry. It's so awesome, inspiring and sorrowful at the same time.
I have a mongrel that is clearly has some german shepherd bloodline and he has the straight back. except his tail curl backwards. he is strong, fast and full of energy. love him. he can't calm down, he is almost 3 years old. Edit: my dogs the same jump and reaction at the end of the vid.
I've had the utmost pleasure and honor to have had a German Shepherd. Sadly, he passed right before his 4th month due to an "incurable" illness according to all the vets around in the state. I too used to be a little apprehensive over German Shepherds, I like many, had presumed they were aggressive and all that but that little boy changed my life and the way I see things for which, I'll forever be grateful. I came from almost neglecting the breed as a whole to loving it the most. I'll see him and the others soon again. 🙏🏻
The German shepherd is definitely a king of all breeds; the only one that has it all - the looks, the smarts, loyalty, and devotion. On top of that they're the most regal while being enormously cute at the same time

Your German shepherd would have been culled by the Germans. No German shepherd that doesn't protect should be living imo. This is where the problems begin
But would you protect your dog with your life? I doubt it
@@mouhrissani8588 yes I have many times
German Shepherds are the very definition of "man's best friend." You couldn't ask for a more loving and loyal family dog.
Ja es ist wahr

My favorite GS girl, Ayla saved me from three would-be muggers a few years back. She was very protective of my wife and my girls and even stopped a wanna-be burglar when I was not home one time. Sadly, she has passed now. I pray she will be waiting for me on the other side when my turn comes. She could not have loved more nor could she ever be loved enough.
Glad to hear his dogs are raw fed. That is wonderful. That Finn is something else. I'm so glad they were able to save him!
marmitenot yes so awesome to hear!! Such a beautiful loyal dog💕
Marco Pierre my cane corso only eats raw meat
@@marcopierre8494 The rule is 80/10/10. 80% muscle meat
10% organ meat
10% bone
I started feeding raw late into my dog's lives and was concerned they wouldn't chew properly so I found a place (after months of searching) that offers raw food ground in chubs.

"Whatever people say I love my dog"
I had someone tell me the same thing so I just showed them a couple photos of a GSD in 1900, 1910, 1930. All straight. It wasn't until the '50s and '60s in America that the slope was added for aesthetic purposes. In our GSD community, we use the terms American and True (or German German Shepherd), Straight and Sloped.

They're velvet and steel.

I prefer a family or farm bred dog to a professionally bred one.
@@OakwiseBecoming i like all of them tbh

This is so true, here in the US breeders concentrate on show dogs, taking the essence of the breed away.

I hate when people say it's all about how you raise them its the people not the dogs.. Actually no it's both. Well said
J.D. try Robert Cabral
Again every breeder regardless of the breed NEEDS to focus primarily on:
-Temperament
-Health
-Train-ability
end of story
@J. D. sounds like you need to bring her to a pro dog trainer...

Show breeders say no more. Lunatics.

@@moirhann show line is a shit
Robert A. Lofgren Jr. health wise they are not ideal. They can be fine pets but they would make Max Emil Friedrich von Stephanitz sick to see
moirhann sadly the “frog” gsd is what people think about when they hear gsd in america i see it in middle east countries as well

30 years???
Absolutely right! I don't know why they thought it looked anything other than bad
@@a48717 how it was; did you pick up your puppy?
@@jmartinez9912 The difference is, your WGSD is taking this stance on her own. She is not permanently in that stance because of genetic skeletal mutilation
I have a black czech working line german shepherd. He is 7 months old and he is very smart, learning very very fast, and we are having so much fun training him. He is also very kind and goofy. I love him!
Such an intelligent and loving dog. Im biased, but once you get a GS you’ll never want another breed.
Very true they are the best 😊
I fell in love with the breed as a kid when I watched K-9 the movie (with James Belushi). I've wanted one all my life but I'm waiting until I have the money and the space. They are absolutely incredible and I get choked up even watching them protect in even these fake robberies. Such good dogs!!
Great movie... K-9 Koton actually worked for the Kansas City Police Department too which is a neat fact. Hopefully you’ll have your own partner soon, they’re amazing.
Đã điểu,
One of my favs! My first thought watching it was: “what a gracious dog”!
I cried during the whole Finn segment😭, he's such a good boy!!🙌
💓💖
unbelievable loyalty, the dog was ALWAYS looking at his handler, waiting for next instruction, incredible, truly the K9 king breed
How could anyone NOT love a German Shepherd? Such beautiful loving beings. Makes me miss our Willie more. Such a perfect fur baby
Had a Siberian Husky for 9 years, just got a 8 week old GSD pup a week ago. He is super smart and an awesome doggo!
Ian McSherry, I have been there as well. I know what it is like when you have to say good bye.🐕🦺🐕🦺💔💔
🙌💥💓
showlines have straight backs lol
German shepherds are amazing!
3:02 and on especially at the end around the 17:40 marks, the way that dog looks at him is LIFE❣❣❣ Such great dogs, god I miss mine so much more now 😭
My aunt had one, beautiful dog, very protective of her home and family.
Look at that 3:03 even when the spotlight is all about the breed its eyes and focus remains on its master, what a beaut.!
😊👍🐕🦺🐕🦺🐾🦴🦴❤❤
Such guardian angels these dogs are
Absolutely love German Shepherd Dogs🌻🤟♥️🐾🐾♥️🤟
What impresses me the most about the GSD is their level of intelligence and strength. No stranger is going just approach you or accost you and not give up their name, rank, and serial number!!!
I highly highly recommend you going to talk to a showline German Shepherd breeder. Many of them still do sports. It will be very interesting to watch especially discussing “straight back” gsd’s and how much different a dog looks just by a stack.
Working Line German Shepherd Best Dog Ever. Thank you Captain Max
You are welcome and thankyou so much for sharing your story with me 😍
Sorry for your loss I really am. I lost my boy of 11 Christmas eve just gone. It kills so bad even now still. Always go for a working line dog it will always be healthier but you must do something with the dog. Work it in some way. Even if it means chasing a tug toy and playing games like that
@@Animal-Watch Omg 😭 what an honor Thank you ♥️

To me and my family the German shepherd is the king of dogs. I love all dogs but German shepherds have the best of every dog.
So heart warming
I despise these show type breeders messing with a dogs actual health & happiness to shape in into something else!?!?!?
I would like a working line German Shepherd who dropped out of protection school because it was too nice and mellow.
Have you actually spoken to a showline breeder?
I agree with you. I've always thought that people who breed dogs for "beauty" don't love dogs, they love money.
Same with bulldogs. Those guys are born ready to die
ExtraSpecialMango blame the akc and all they for rewarding it
Love the working line shepherds they look so healthy.
I've always been more of a cat man, but those are beautiful dogs
"He's not gonna pull me over is he?"
"Potentially "
😂 you did it though!
Please make a video about the Beauceron breed! A beautiful breed that deserves more attention.
That first working line is a fine looking dog!!
🫶🐺
Owned shepherds for well over 25 years. All my dogs have come from Germany. They're wolves in sheep's clothing; strong temperaments yet beautiful as well. They are NOT overly angulated, with roche backs! Many have obtained SchH titles, some of which have been shown at both Sieger Shows in the USA & Germany. Great video, I enjoyed watching every minute of it. I'll be soon looking for an all black shepherd, maybe Protection Dogs can help?
Bicolor?
This is SO good. Thank you for this video about how bad the show ring has messed up these once, amazing dogs
angulation is actually extremely important to the breed. the angulation allows them to trot efficiently and effectively while conserving as much stamina as possible. working lines are bred for biting, not herding, which is the reason for the difference. doesn’t mean one is better than the other. they’re just different lines made for different things!
That's fantastic!!! I would love to see Rottweilers some time in the future!
For fun, do one of those canine DNA tests.

I loved the Episode&I can't wait to watch it with my German shepherd baby Shelby. 💖🐺💖
I love their chemistry ! I was like no way when she went back they would be the cutest couple My girl anneka!! I love her
😂
I cried watching Finn, too. I grew up with two German Shepherds, and I can't wait to again have the conditions to have one.
