Our Newfie was a big baby. Friendly to all dogs and people and even bowing in submission towards the neighbours jack russell who was literally just 10% of his size and weight. Like Doug he seemed to have no idea how big he was. Especially when he wanted cuddles. You'd sit on a chair and he would try to get his 70 kg on your lap, seemingly confused that he didn't fit.

@@tockita I also have a dog who doesn't like other dogs, he's scared of bigger dogs and see smaller ones as prey. A lot of people seem to not get that why you don't want their dog to approach yours isn't because you're scared of their dog but because you don't want *their* dog to get hurt.

I worked at a grooming salon for about a year and we had two Newfoundlands, Mika and Mike, come in regularly. Although they were huge and their fur made a mess of our work space, they were both big 'ol babies. Mike used to take the leash from his parents after checking in and walked himself to the back and into a kennel.

I have a 6 month old Newfoundland. Newfies have a naturally sweet disposition, but they have to be trained early not to jump on people or pull too hard on the leash. I've had to work hard on Ichinojo to keep him from randomly jumping on people he meets for the first time, and since he'll weigh about 70-80 kilos when he's fully grown that's of vital importance that he be trained properly..

Agreed. Growing up my aunt was nonverbal and my parents had trained our dogs with sign language so that my aunt was able to control the dogs when she stayed with us. :) years later I've moved out of home but have taught my dog some signs.
I have a 7 year old French Spaniel, and I have struggled with leash pulling ever since we got him. Because Caxton is hyper-aware and impulsive, he pulls very strongly and can be unpredictable, because he can suddenly lunge forward to sniff something that we are not aware. I have tried many things: stopping and waiting until he releases tension on the leash, including the random walks (with sudden turns and stops) and the dual anchor leash. The dual anchor leash has not been very useful to us, but the random walks help to re-focus him. However, even over several months of applying this method, I have not had any durable behaviour changes in his attitude. What I have noticed that really helps is awarenes of his state of mind before we head out the door. Closing the door if the dog wants to bolt out the door is very effective at curbing impulses and sets the stage for a smoother walk. At the end of the day, I treat my dog like I would a child with ADHD, in other words, I accept that I cannot change his nature but can use strategies to make our walks more pleasant for both of us, and I no longer feel like I failed as a dog keeper.
My aunt's family had a crotch-sniffing Dalmatian that drove them to distraction over the embarrassment. By chance we found out what the problem was, when the complaints extended to him drinking from the toilet bowl whenever he could gain access to the bathroom! Apparently my aunt had fed, groomed and walked the poor thing but had somehow forgotten to give him any water! 'Do dogs need water? I didn't realise that.' is literally what she said. The dog was more than a year old...

They are not dangerous, just big. I walked my Newfies myself at 5'3" and 140 pounds. He should be neutered also. All dogs need to be trained.

Yes, milan wants to "fix" the dogs fast without being positiv like fixing food guarding by punching a retriver on the neck to and gets suprised when the dog bites him when he wants to pet him after. Victoria knows that it does not happen over night and that the dog learns best if they are happy.
What kind of lead is that with the leash on the front and back? This Newfie is adorable. My female Newfie isn’t nearly Duggee’s size, but she still managed to yank my husband to the ground when our girl came in contact with another dog. Great episode!
I love newfs. My family has one (Ozzy) he is the best. Great with my 2 boys, very gentle. The only thing he’s done is accidentally knocked them over when playing but with training he’s doing better. Also he has bad separation anxiety. We actually would love another one but we live in a small house.
This gorgeous dog weighs 165 pounds! I can see a pooch like him jumping into water from a helicopter to rescue a human who is in danger. I 😍😍 Newfies and I wish I could have one.
I had a one of these dogs as a kid she was amazing but boy she needed exercise and me being an 11 year old girl trying to walk a giant dog never worked lol she’d take off running and I’d end up being dragged. But she was a dream otherwise lol but everyone was terrified of her cause she looked like a bear.
I once had a massive Labrador with tremendous strength. He was very sweet but would take me "skiing" on the roads whenever we saw another dog he wanted to be friends with. Have decided to stick to smaller breeds now.
Duggie is so lovely and sweet. I love large dogs with innocent faces. ❤ I always wonder how much a dog pull add to its weight. I have 3 small dogs, total weight only 17-18 kg. I can handle that. But my neighbors have a labradoodle that weighs about 22-23 kg, I couldn't handle him when he lunges. So I can't imagine a 75 kg dog.
Gee, a stubborn Newf. Who'd have guessed? 🤣 You've given me a fabulous tip: two leashes. My Shelagh's harness has the two D-rings and I have a second leash (in anticipation of a second dog), so I'll get started on that tomorrow--MANY thanks because I'm having problems with my exuberant (Landseer) Newf, too ("only" 129 lbs.). One difference is that if anyone comes to the door who doesn't actually enter the house regularly, my girl gets defensive, even if she knows the person and is his/her buddy on the street. I don't want to correct that--I really like that despite being a Newf, she acts like a LGD sometimes (she even herds guests). I'm a small woman alone and I figure we should be taking care of each other.
_Thank God_ Dougie _didn’t_ have a bad reaction to getting bitten beforehand by the dogs he greeted or else these problems would’ve been _12 times worse._
A Gentle Leader (that goes on the dogs head like a horse) would work so much better for that dog. I had a Saint Bernard that pulled. After a week of using the Gentle Leader I never had to use it again he learned not to pull. Note: Gentle Leaders are only for walking your dog. DO NOT leave on your dog's head after you're done walking your dog. Most dogs will paw at the Gentle Leader the first couple of times you put it on them. To stop them from pawing at it, tell them to leave it and hold a treat out in front of their nose. When they stop pawing at the Gentle Leader give your dog the treat. Over time you will not need treats. Side Note: When using the Gentle Leader (that gose on the dogs head) use a leash that has a clip at both ends. One Clip goes on your dog's collar the other clip goes on the Gentle Leader. This is if your dog pulls the Gentle Leader off their hand, you are still attached to their collar. You can also use two leashes.

This gorgeous dog weighs 165 pounds! I can see a pooch like him jumping into water from a helicopter to rescue a human who is in danger. I 😍😍 Newfies and I wish I could have one.
I remember my first dog was a Newfie we have Caucasian shepherds now which are a little bigger and a lot meaner but I miss the friendly personality
This dog would become my Charlie's best friend 😆. He is 30lbs but loves to play with large breeds.
Hello Angelina, how are you doing?
He just wants to be everyone friend
Absolutely magnificent doggie. He could certainly sit next to me on the couch.
Only thing for me is; I could not live with the drool.😢😜
I had a one of these dogs as a kid she was amazing but boy she needed exercise and me being an 11 year old girl trying to walk a giant dog never worked lol she’d take off running and I’d end up being dragged. But she was a dream otherwise lol but everyone was terrified of her cause she looked like a bear.
This is brilliant for my springer, Charles!!!
Great parents and Newfoundland's are amazing dogs.
they are gentle dogs but very messy. I could not handle it. Glad Victoria could help.
Imagine the gigantic poops to pick up! 💩
@@wholeshebang1 no ty ..lol
@@kimlampkin How are you doing?😊
@@hurst-cs2jh Well ty ,how are you?
@@kimlampkin I’m doing great and you?
I had a newfie. Best dog we had. She was not very active though 😂 she’d lay around all day, but she was a great dog. Beautiful brown coat
The biggest goodest boi ❤️❤️❤️
Finnaly an episode I had not seen before!
So excited for this
Awesome job Victoria and owners thanks for amazing year your the best 💚❤️🎄❤️❤️
Hello Lauren, how are you doing?
Ohhh Duggie, what a GREAT DOGGIE!!! ❤🐾✌🏽🙏🏽🫶🏽
He is so gorgeous!! One of my dream dog breeds, maybe if ever I had the space. He's so big and almost looks like a human in a dog suite, lol!!
I once had a massive Labrador with tremendous strength. He was very sweet but would take me "skiing" on the roads whenever we saw another dog he wanted to be friends with. Have decided to stick to smaller breeds now.
Quite interesting how dogs can tell your gender, health, emotional state, by sniffing in the personal place on a human's body. I had no idea!
Duggie is so lovely and sweet. I love large dogs with innocent faces. ❤
I always wonder how much a dog pull add to its weight. I have 3 small dogs, total weight only 17-18 kg. I can handle that. But my neighbors have a labradoodle that weighs about 22-23 kg, I couldn't handle him when he lunges. So I can't imagine a 75 kg dog.
“ why isn’t everyone look like me “ dog 🙀🤣
My number 1 rule as a dog owner is to own a dog that I can handle and not a dog that can handle me.
It is so cute. It looks like a bear.
Agreed. This dog is beyond precious.
He is gorgeous
Gee, a stubborn Newf. Who'd have guessed? 🤣
You've given me a fabulous tip: two leashes.
_Thank God_ Dougie _didn’t_ have a bad reaction to getting bitten beforehand by the dogs he greeted or else these problems would’ve been _12 times worse._
that clip at 2:09 is a bit misleading. Both dogs wast to play, not fight. Both tails are wagging, both do a quick bow before, they're friendly.
SO EXCITED!!!💚🎄❤️🎄💚❤️❤️🎅🏻🎅🏻💚🎄🎄
This would be why I taught my Great Dane not to jump up on people from day 1
Newfies: probably the sweetest dogs in the world, and completely unaware of their size
Awesome video!
I may need it for mine, she has an eating problem, and she won’t get up off the bed, is this a problem, or normal???
Why do you need her to get up off the bed, let her sleep comfortably
