- I'm back posting videos!!! So much has happened since I was in Nassau Bahamas and I'm posting this video to tell my story and what is coming up in future episodes on the Sailing EV TH-cam channel.

I did the same trip 10 years ago solo and was boarded 7 times and 5 with dogs. The uscg stops canadian boats because they dont want any confrontations that way they all get to look tough and get to go home at nite. They use canadian boats to teach new cadets how to carry out a boarding.

No matter where you go or what you do or say there will be people that post hateful comments. Although I am an inland lake sailor, I greatly appreciate your content. I have learned a lot from your videos.
Gotta love U.S. customs. The rules are different depending on who you talk to. When I crossed in 2017. I spent an entire day on the phone after crossing Lake Ontario as CBP officers I talked to kept saying there was no such thing as the raising license! Wait for shift change and I had my cruising license. Why do you have to bring the boat to Canada to Register it? There’s no visual inspection. You just need to fill out a few forms, pay the fees and they send you the docs. I registered my boat as Canadian while it was still in the U.S.
Thanks for the update. Was worried for a moment. You'll be fine headed north. Its going to be expensive to fix your stuff and its shit to deal with bureaucracy but you got your life and your boat. Onward!

Ahoy again. I know yr furler came out so I understand where the overpowering came from sorry to bust U about reduced sail which U were on the foresail. Ya I had to replace my furler line Cams twice from plastic to alloy now cuz Would wear thru n unlock at the worst time. Still freaks me out in a blow so I cleat it after cam still in the big stuff. @@sailingEV888 your more than welcome, i want to suggest you over stock EV, minimum 6 months non parishable food at all times, full aux diesel tanks, beer rum be able to catch rain, think about EV as your orca, she will take you away to safety, the world is on the brink of war, i have no trust or confidence in those around the world that hold our lives in thier hands, act accordingly, ill stay in touch

Spoken like a true American. I, also an American (who once felt that way), now kiss the ground here.. after 5 years sailing the Caribbean. An ex-professional boxer, and retired merchant marine captain, you'd be hard pressed to find someone with a better skillset for this life - yet we were raided 49 miles off Cuba, they took everything, including our home and vessel. America is absolutely amazing. Stop listening to the corporate media and go travel some.. NOT resort b.s. travel.. actual travel, then get back to me.

Florida requires a Florida registration on all boats no matter where it is titled or documented. If you register as an ANtique vessel there is no fee except for an administrative fee, and your boat is old enough to qualify.
My vessel is from 1979. Is that old enough? 45 years old...

@@sailingEV888 I looked it up antique is 30 years or older, $6.25 state fee, I had $3 county fee(Volusia county). USCG Documented. I don't think it helps with insurance, at least it didn't make a difference with Progressive. Any County Tax Assesor can register it, but you do need a copy of title or documentation.

So your boat is licensed, not to be confused with a registered boat. You can do either but a registered boat makes things so much easier for immigration...and as a plus you don't need to have the ugly numbers on the bow of the boat and you can legally fly the Canadian flag on your boat. If you're traveling, definitely register your boat.
I was wondering if you can have a small amount of weed on a boat. A joint or a dime bag. Either at anchor or sailing and if at anchor, can you smoke it?
Funny story's. Boat life for newbies is so painfull. I am helping out a young newbie 38 a girl here in Asia learn the ropes. In the last 3 days it's been a shit show her supposed nearly new mainsail had 15 big holes in it.she managed to high and dry herself on her dingy. Shear the prop pin on her 1 day old yamaha 2 hp. Then last night loose the entire dingy by not trying it up proper. 1000s lost. Her brand new diesel with 4 hours on it had a oil alarm going off and she was trying to tell me it's OK.
Newbies are magnets to drama. remember. I was there 35 years ago.

Nearly certain that Florida has you register in Florida if boat has been there continuously for more than 90 days. Go to Georgia and lay up- you don’t need to go to Canada. It’s state by state.

As an American I am absolutely appalled at the way we treated you. Canadians are our brothers. There shouldn't be any restrictions for you guys to come visit whatsoever.

You make poor decisions. I would never get into a vehicle with someone who was drinking and driving like that. But you needed content. I get it. Anytime I am sailing and there is bad weather approaching, I quickly make sure that hatches are closed, my companion way is closed, and any other ports of entry that water can get into my boat. Every time I am underway, I stow everything to protect what I have worked so hard for. Again, you make poor decisions. But you need content. I get it. Im looking forward to all of your new videos. I can't wait to see what other poor decisions you make.

Yes. Had to order new parts. Everything functioning with exception to the Alternator. Will have it rebuilt in Fort peirce..
Crazy regarding regostry..whats the deal with that? I never heard anyome being asked that. Only a vessel licence. Be it ontario licence or canadian ship registry. How did they let you into us in the fitst place? Or the year before returning from bahamas..im sure the border security would have all that information already

If you had secured everything properly for the crossings that you’re on, you would not have been knocked down and would not have flown in and destroyed all of your electronics.

I gave them my ONTARIO registration number . This number is not acceptable in the USA but is in the Bahamas..

Now I don’t know how AIS works exactly, but how would the Department of Homeland Security know Michael’s name, as they just pulled up aside him 10nm out from shore? Which just so happened to have the Discovery Channel tagging along to film an episode. And if I remember correctly, Michael’s past career was in the film industry.
AIS doesn't show owners/captains names. Only vessel name and specs. There's no way they would know his name.
