As a cruiser I have found so many anchorages filled with derelict boats that haven't moved in years. These boats make it hard for cruisers to find good anchorage since many of them are sunken and create a hazard to navigation. Many of these boats belong to people that have gone away and basically abandoned their boats for months at a time. This is not just a Florida problem since I have seen it all along the intracoastal.

Yanmar just keeps ticking along, makes me happy. Guitar sounds good man, hope to jam with you some day!

Love your videos. They’re real. I lived on my Westsail 32 for 5 years in Canada. I agree. There were days I loved it and days I wanted nothing to do with it. It’s an addiction. I sold that boat and that very same day I was looking on Yacht world. There will be another love hate relationship in the future. I know it. Two things love your music. Great song. You have a talent. Please replace your Canadian Flag. It’s sad to see it in such bad condition. I say this because I too left my Canadian flag tattered for weeks. One day I returned to my boat to find a Dutch gentleman with a new Canadian flag in his hand. He gave it to me and asked if I’d change my flag. I felt embarrassed as I knew it was the Canadians that liberated the Netherlands in WW2. To this day when I see a Canadian flag in poor condition for no good reason it bothers me. Same thing going on in the San Francisco Bay Area …trying to evict all the people living on boats…mostly poor people. I don’t think it’s fair. They get chased off from wherever they go…unless you are an illegal!

I've been in over 10,000 feet of water. I've been in 20' seas. I've been in 50 kts of wind. You say, 'Never lose control of your vessel." I would say things differently. Your vessel is in far more control than you are. Your vessel can keep you afloat when you have lost the battle. We were very close to passing by Isla del Cocos in Costa Rica. My children had questioned what would happen if we missed the islands. We were close to understanding my response. I said that we would sail a lot farther than we planned. Remember, the vessel will likely maintain control far beyond your ability to control it. During a race this year, we broached and were knocked down. I didn't notice the details. Others have reported the upper spreaders were in the water. Did we lose control? Within 4 minutes, we were rounded, on tack, and continued. I believe that we lost control. Our helmsman's expertise, the team's response, and the co-ordinated response of both, allowed the vessel to avoid catastrophy. Our efforts allowed the vessel to maintain its stability while responding to our direction. I say that when you lose control, say "Thank you 'vessel' for keeping me safe. Please protect me until I can understand what to do." Then get to work.

So happy to hear you finally recognize and vocalize and quantify the fact that you made a shitty decision four years ago to leave before you’re very prepared.
