  • I have managed to put in about 1000km on the newly collected Gen2 Ford Ranger Raptor in the past few weeks. There are 10 really amazing things that I like about the Raptor, and here are also 10 not so amazing things that I think could be improved. But to be honest this is such an incredible truck, that the positives totally outshines the negatives. Let us know in the comment section below if you have any questions or there's anything you would to know about the Ranger Raptor. We will be bringing you more contents on this vehicle, so please stay tunned!

    Owned the old Generation for many years now and it was a game changer when released but I've been driving the next generation for 3months and the old Raptor is a slug compared to this bad boy,no comparison the old generation is RUBISH ... 👍🏽 Good Job Ford nothing compares here in Australia for the money.

    Another great video. Do you think the J-braces would be required for hauling two dirt bikes / tool chest / etc?

    • @sundaymorningdrives
      @sundaymorningdrives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I understand, the J Braces are only required for additional loads and accessories on top of the tray, if you are towing something behind, you shouldn't need it as long as it within the recommended weight. But it's best to consult your Ford dealer for the official answer, haha 😄

  • @auswi
    @auswi ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I might have to investigate the J-Braces. I wasn't told about those, and as I have a Load Lid installed, I want to make sure it's solid. It's hard to compare diesel to petrol when talking torque (pun intended). Yes, the diesel produces more down low, but the petrol revs another ~2000 rpm and an overall higher torque number. Put it in manual mode and you will find the torque much better in lower revs, as the gearbox wants to shift down when you accelerate. Two things the NZ version misses (which I think is how they managed to get it to a price point) is no automatic parking (the sensors aren't there) and no spray in bed liner (just a drop in). AU versions have both. It has global open and close on all windows when using the key fob, but the rears are manual up and down.

    • @sundaymorningdrives
      @sundaymorningdrives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, do ask your dealer about the J Braces, I installed them because it was recommended by my dealership. With regards to torque, there lots of turbo petrol engines out there that has a much lower max torque setup, some even as low as 1250rpm. I think it's just how Ford wanted this engine to feel more like a naturally aspirated engine, having more linear power delivery and power at the top end.

    Agree with most of your points except side step. The wider it is, the more likely it hits while off road. At least they didn't add those horrid steps that jut out like they put on the Tremor. Yuck! Also find it interesting about J-braces, thanks for that. Some like the look of the previous generation, some, like me, prefer this generation's look.
    Honestly, for me, its the suspension, engine, and overall size I like most. F150 is just too big for what I want/need. Is the stereo any good, or is it like most "premium" systems where they are really just so-so?

    I totally agree, as I owned the Gen 1 and now the Gen 2, the seat bolstering in Gen 1 is far better than Gen 2. Agree also, the side steps on Gen 2 are narrower than Gen 1 (I am now thinking if I can replace the Gen 2 side steps with Gen 1 side steps, will they bolt straight on? Can anyone answer this?) I am sure they could have added the side step on the rear tray if they put some effort into it LOL we got people in space but they cant design a side access step to the tray because of the exhaust, thats bullshit, they could have done it. The door trim un matching is also poor, surely they should have matching front and back door trims with orange highlights. I also think the paddle shifters should not be on the steering wheel, they should be mounted on the dash, this allows for better easier gear changing rather than crossed over arms in turning motion trying to figure out where the lever is at that point

    • @sundaymorningdrives

    Hello my friend! I’m waiting for my raptor here in europe in the next 6-8 months! Now you have had the car for a while now, how much is the fuel consumption? Here in Europe the engine has been downgraded to 292hp, but despite this the combined consumption they claimed is 13.5 litters, while i saw in many videos in other regions is 11.5 despite the more power and torque! Do you have any idea why? The reality is that here in Europe the first customers talks about 15-16 litters! Thank you and keep up the good job!

      Paul marrick from auto expert was able to get his fuel economy down to 11.2lt per 100klm “towards the end of his trip” after picking up his new Raptor in Port Macquarie NSW & driving it to Melbourne in Victoria.
      That trip is all Highway kilometres. . . in “2H” mode.
      How much if that entire trip was in 2H, I don’t know.
      But from my understanding in his video, better fuel economy is achievable if you are not sticking your boot into it continuously.
      Also keep in mind, he had just picked the car up from the dealer, . . . He was on his own in the car, & the vehicle I would imagine also had no other gear on board, having just picked it up. (Minimal weight)

      @sundaymorningdrives  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelmadden7882 I mean if you are on highway cruising without having to stop and start all the time, then of course that figure is achievable, all depends on how you use the vehicle. I drive it mostly doing everyday things, probably only 20% highway at the most, but still I feel it's high at 17L, this engine is not meant for fuel economy, and if you want to deliberately save fuel in this truck, then you might as well get something else, it's not fun anymore

    I have been driving Ranger Raptor for one month now, and I I'm not impressed. I agree that the old one feels punchier when driving relaxed around town, which is expected due to the nature of the diesel engine. I also miss the fully upholstered dash, the metal-trimmed pedals, and the cushy seats that the old model had. The orange interior trim is too loud for my taste; I preferred the gray bits and blue stitches of the old one. However, what really bothers me is that the new model rides much, much firmer than the old one, long gone is the super comfy ride of the old Raptor. Additionally, I've noticed some interior plastic noises here and there with only 1000km on the odometer, whereas my old Raptor with over 60k km never had a single creak. It seems Ford may have compromised on build quality.

      Do you know how turbo engine works? There are turbo petrol engines that can produce max torque at as low as 1250rpm. It's how the manufacturer design and tune the engine, not the fuel type. With the new Raptor, Ford wants to give it a more naturally aspirated engine feel, hence the higher max torque rpm curve.

    • @JonGlez978
      @JonGlez978 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sundaymorningdrives I know exactly how it works. 😅 Why “design” an under-squared, small turbo, big displacement- low revving monstrosity that makes no power after 4,000 rpm’s. That’s what the diesel is for.
      Your complaints about low end torque have no merit when this truck is a “Baja” inspired off road vehicle. Not a low speed rock crawler.
      In “Baja” conditions the engine will live its life higher in the rev range. Who cares about low end torque. Buy a regular diesel version if you care about that.

    The door corner does stick out beyond the natural door line. I've gouged my knee cap more times than I can recall. You would think I would have learnt by now. A bad unfortunate design flaw, but still a beast of a ute (a truck to the boys in the USA). The phone answer and terminate is a bad design. Try making a voice activated phone call while using navigation, leave a voice mail then try to end the call. There is nothing on the screen to press as it is on navigation. I had to bring up the menu and select phone to then be able to press the red button, all while driving. What a disaster of a design, or and I missing something?

      It's to do with how the petrol engine is designed and tuned. Now a days some petrol turbo engine can have max torque at as low as 1250rpm. It's just how Ford wanted this v6 to feel more like a naturally aspirated engine, hence the higher max torque range.

    Or, you have newer versions that look worse than the previous model.
    Ford Ranger/ Raptor is a perfect example.
    Fuel Economy is not something you mention when talking about this car ??
    I get better fuel economy out of my FG XR8 ute.
    A modern car that couldn't even make a trip from Melbourne to Adelaide on 1 tank of fuel WTF.
    Did Ford put a 4 cylinder fuel tank in the new Raptor to save on weight ??
    I guess you at least know it's a FORD Raptor, how could you miss the words 1 foot high stuck on the grill ???
    Other than the thirsty engine what is good about the new FORD Raptor ??
    Hopefully, that's in the next video ?

      Yup, you are totally right, the fuel economy is super poor with the new Raptor. I couldn't even reach 400km with one tank of fuel sometimes. That's crazy in this day and age when everyone is trying to achieve fuel economy. The good things about the Raptor is probably just the power, the chassis, and the looks 😆

    Red color details, including stitching, are being added with very precise designer's sense for measure and balance, avoiding to slip into kitchy, kindergarten or circus like enterior. Your personal affinity for overemphasized details can not be taken as relevant point. Raptor is a TRUCK! A very good, reliable and nice one.
