    As the owner of both outgoing and next gen Ranger Raptors, Id get this one even in 2023, its an exceptional truck, makes more sense than the new one unless youre after an off road ripping machine with all the tech bells and whistles, The first gen is more fuel efficent, offers a much MUCH better ride comfort, seats are cushier, feels punchier when driving relaxed arround town, better build quality than the new one, oh and looks better too with those sexy fenders and narrow glasshouse, the new one resembles the base ranger too closely.

    18:02 I have a raptor here in France, I am a builder and very often where I travel to work is off road.. it’s been fantastic. The smaller towing capacity and load bed capacity haven’t been an issue. I can still tow a one ton digger for smaller jobs and all my tools fit in the back. Though I would like a better load bed solution. At the weekends it deals with motorway really well and off road exploring is amazing. So far no issue other than the odd squeak.

    As I had my Raptor serviced for a Transmission overheating issue in July 2022, Ford informed me that we should be prepared to service Transmissions from 60,000km, particularly if towing or near max loads for most uses
    In all my Raptor has been reasonable, I have had only 4 issues all covered by warranty
    1) Fuel Pump burn out just before 10,000km - Plastic fuel line burnt slightly and bent over stopping fuel being pumped into engine - Fuel Pump replaced, - 21 Jan 2021
    2) Coolant Pump issue - Dash light came on just prior to 42,000km - Coolant Pump replaced, - 06 Jun 2022
    3) Transmission Overheating (46,000km)- on a return drive from Melbourne to Toowoomba during the hill sections of southern NSW, thermo bypass valve appeared sticky, transmission was slightly over filled- Transmission was serviced (replaced fluid) and tested, - 22 July 2022
    4) Tail Shaft slip yoke (69,000km)- On a recent service the Ford Techs identified that the Tail slip yoke had excessive play (+/-3-5mm) in the slip joint near end of expected suspension range - replaced with new tail shaft unit, - 10 August 2023 (of Note newer Tail shaft design installed)

    Loved this video, very informative; I recently got almost the same exact raptor from the video it’s 2018 and had 139,000 from when I financed it and I had the exact same questions and doubts before getting it but the raptor has been going great, the previous owner has serviced it consistently up to date/km and mostly used it as a daily commuter to head into town because she lived in a property an hour away and looked after it. As long as it’s been looked after and any issues that come up gets fixed it’s a good very capable and comfortable ute.

In the last 12 months I've had the timing case seal replaced twice under warranty and a seat bracket replaced as it was plastic and simply appeared on the floor one day. the Transmission can definitely be a bit dim-witted when cold but other than that, I love it. great review!!!

    These remind me of the old ZD30 powered Patrols. You might get a good one that does over 300,000 km without an issue, or you get one that blows up before 50k. The build quality of the drivetrain is consistently inconsistent. I look after a fleet of Rangers where I work, and most of them don't have issues, but there are a few with oil leaks around the fuel pump, rear main oil seal leaks, failing EGR valves, DPF issues, and electrical gremlins.

      Oil pump is an issue but a well setup 3.2L is a beast & rivals the current 3L V6 diesel turbo
      Ford fitted a small turbo on them, a terrible oil pump, crap EGR Cooler, injectors that need replacing around 130k.
      Get a PX Ranger 3.2 at a price that covers the upgrades & it will smoke these crap 2.2 Twin turbo Rangers.
      The G300 turbo setup will make 180rwkw.

    Have been waiting for this video! Got a 2020.25 Raptor and think this is a very fair review.
    My transmission failed at 26,000kms and was rebuilt under warranty without hesitation from Ford. Could not fault their customer service. Was given a new Wildtrak through Europcar while repair was carried out (3-4 weeks).
    Have had various other warranty claims honoured (fading exterior window rubber trims replaced, worn red leather on steering wheel - new steering wheel fitted etc) without any trouble at all.
    On road ride quality and refinement leaves all other dual cabs for dead which was one of the main deciders for me. Yes, that comes at the cost of payload and towing capacity but for me - no issue. Also yes, it is a little bit under powered but still offers reasonable economy.
    I rate it highly as an overall package for my requirements but will certainly be moving it on before the warranty expires!

    • @janjans0001
      @janjans0001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have just clocked 50k on mine. I also think it is a little underpowered, but because of this engine I was able to get such a car as a daily driver over here in Europe. A big turbo V6 or V8 petrol engine is just impossible to have over here with our fuel prices...
      So while that is a bit of a trade off, at least I can feel like a little kid again driving the monster truck I always adored!

    100k for a dual cab Ute is fcuking crazy!
    It’s a Ute
    It’s a bloody Ute mate
    It’s meant to work and go off road not drive over gutters and be the tuff truck in the Coles carpark with a wanker for a driver or most likely Mrs Wanker.
    The gearbox is terrible and that little diesel is working very hard even on a dual lane road let alone a steep track.
    There are better dual cabs for off road use but the Raptor is best at city cruising and showing off it’s pretty (but nearly useless for a load ) rear suspension.
    So if you own one I recommend ceramic coating that rear suspension to free you of having to polish the springs and clean of the diff dust every month.

    As long as ppl who put it on their wishing list realize that this car is purely a toy or a weekend car; if u load up the tub to use it like a workhorse, then the performance will be wasted as the essence in this car is the FOX Racing Position-Sensitive shocks to keep up the smile and all sorts of excitement; otherwise better choose Wildtrack or XLT. Other than that, go for it if you can get the hang of how to drive a gravel rallyish car/truck.

    The great thing about Raptor's is you can drive them up the right hand lane of freeway at about 5-10 kmh. below the speed limit with your 'phone stuck to your ear because you haven't figured out how to use Bluetooth, yet. Then, when someone passes you in the inside lane, doing the speed limit, you can flex the muscle of the mighty twin turbo engine and speed right past them before cutting them off as you finally move from the right lane to the left lane, just in the nick of time to make the exit ramp that leads you to your newly completed, but not yet paid for, West suburban abode.
    I shouldn't be so harsh. They're great for towing the jet ski that you still owe eight grand on and the dirt bike that you bought from your mate, cheap, but still haven't made a single payment on. And what better vehicle to tow your new ski boat, once the finance is approved.

    Regarding the 2 litre motor - I’d rather the 2 litre motor over the V6. I’ve done the Canning Stock Route and will do it again soon enough. Man I did it in a short wheel base 84 shorty 40🤣🤣. This thing would be perfect with that diesel motor in remote Australia - just point it anywhere and it’ll do it with diesel available anywhere. At 80km/h when smashing over corrugations and bumps the car doesn’t care whether it’s a 4cyl or V6. Just my 2 cents🤘🤘

I'm pretty interested in how it's going to handle rough dirt roads and the corrugations, I've seen enough videos to see the 4WD capabilities which seems to be okay if you're not setting out to try and destroy it :). @@016cobra That's awesome, thanks for the detailed reply mate! Good to hear about the corrugations, I see so many video and written reviews that kind of brush over how good it is on corrugations etc., but I haven't seen that properly demonstrated aside from quick high speed offroad clips that do look impressive. Having a less capable vehicle for offroad means driving a lot slower and a rough ride, making for very long, uncomfortable trips that nobody will want to participate in. That will be a big selling point to my wife once she feels that difference - as it stands all I told her was I got a Ranger, not specifically which variant :D. I'll be setting it up for light overland stuff, so probably a hidden winch behind the stock bumper, a tub rack (already have a roller shutter on it), and aim for a lightweight rooftop tent to go on the rack. I've got an old '06 diesel BMW that is a blast for handling on-road, but got the itch again to go out exploring, there are some awesome local tracks up here on the CQ coast, as well as beach access.

      Not only is it 30% more expensive to buy, it is going to be a fuel guzzler! While Ford claims 8litres for our 2 litre engines, they claim already 16 litres for the new one! If I do the math, I am doing 13.6 liters in my 2 litre raptor, the new one would do over 20 litres with my driving style, yikes!

    • @jaytan915
      @jaytan915 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@janjans0001 Over here in Malaysia, the new Raptor only comes with a 3 litre engine. No doubt more fun for more money, but guzzling more expensive petrol. I have never found the supposedly underpowered 2 litre engine wanting. After all, I use it like a workhorse pickup truck and not a weekend sportscar. So your point holds

      @@jaytan915 At first I found it very slow as I come from a 3.5 double turbo diesel bmw X5. After a while you get used to it and it's fine for every day use. Only it tops out at 180kmh on the motorway and you need more space when overtaking... But it is all just luxury problems...
      On the other hand you take the raptor off road and it is more capable than I am willing to put it through! I do 120kmh on dirt roads and my wife asks me to go even faster! It is really really impressive off road!

    • @jaytan915
      @jaytan915 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@janjans0001 I know 180kmh looks pathetic but really, the highest highway speed limit around here is only 110kmh so I can't do anything with the extra 70.
      Offroad, the Raptor is the most capable bad boy off-the-shelf. After an experience where my ute almost rolled off the edge of a cliff, I am not ashamed to admit that I don't go around testing my Raptor's off-road prowess. I'm just happy to overcome every challenge without a sweat.
      Anyway, when the car is used every day, the cost of the fuel guzzling will start to bite. And that's despite our state subsidised petrol and diesel.

    One time I stopped at a shopping centre, saw one of these & decided to chat to the owner who was still inside his vehicle. He said he bought it for 1 specific reason ONLY : to NOT worry about the crappy pothole ridden roads we have in south africa. Pretoria to be exact. He said he just drives straight along the road & the Raptor eats up all the potholes with ease. So for that reason, I would buy one.

If you use them as a work ute well every tradie that I know in my work circle that has owned a bio turbo or a 3.2 have all had transmission problems above every thing else. Some of the guys have had 2 transmissions replaced. This is Fords M.O, make them flash, build them cheap. The new one, V6 diesel, is the same with engine failures and transmissions not being great.

I don't like wrecking my cars off road and I think pickups generally look boring. I like camping and visiting remote places and I do like the practicality of a pickup as I can load al my outdoor and camping gear in the back. The raptor is the only pickup I want as it looks and rides like a sporty suv rather than a farm truck. If you want a work truck, why would you buy one with coil springs snd a reduced load and towing capacity?
