  • Hey Sparkers! This video is a little different! In this one I discuss (not demo) the Positive Grid Riff guitar/bass interface! I discuss how it is similar and how it is different to the Spark and why YOU might want it... or not! I also discuss my favorite way to use it! Enjoy!

    I mainly use Bias FX 2 mobile due to convenience, I previously connected to my ipad with a irig hd2. The Riff has a noticeably better sound quality to the irig and better build design, the little rubber strips on the button also help it stop slipping off my desk!

    Great overview my friend. I'm in.

    Does Riff require a guitar cord input, i.e., would an acoustic guitar need a pickup and an output jack? And does Riff work with a wireless guitar receiver?

    Andy thanks for your videos! They have been very informative. One complaint (sorry) can you raise your voice volume? I find in most of your videos that I have to raise the volume to hear you clearly, then when the video cuts to a commercial it's blaring. Thanks!

    Do I really need a DAW to work with the Riff? Can I just plug my guitar into the riff and then the Riff to my Windows 11 PC? Also, am getting an iPad. Can I plug the riff info the ipad and my guitar into the riff and Positive Grid Elite? Would that work also? Sorry for the many questions.

    Thanks for the info? If I only need an audio interface into garage band, do you recommend just using the Spark amp if that's what I already have?

    • @sparkamptutorials2169
      @sparkamptutorials2169  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, especially if you already have one. It will work like a charm.

    Informative video. I am on the market for AI device so I am torn apart now btween Riff and Scarlett Solo......Riff is on sale for $69 and Solo Gen 3 goes for $89 right now, the only thing with the Riff that I cannot use it with XLR microphone, but gettin Bias fx2 for free is a nice perk.

  • @markp4298

    it works great with a clean setup on the spark and then just pass the riff output straight to the spark input. thats still using bias fx etc as well but gives you a good output

    • @sparkamptutorials2169
      @sparkamptutorials2169  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally doable Mark! I agree as long as you have a clean config on the app (or your preset).

      @JeanThomasdeVoghel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why would you use a spark + a riff at the same time?

    • @markp4298
      @markp4298 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JeanThomasdeVoghel if you don't have studio monitors and want to just use the spark as a speaker out for your PC/Laptop/whatever.

    • @JeanThomasdeVoghel
      @JeanThomasdeVoghel ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@markp4298 ok but, you already have a Spark that can be used as a Guitar Audio Interface, so why would you need a Riff then ?

    • @scottv8410
      @scottv8410 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeanThomasdeVoghel for some reason neither my spark 40 nor my spark mini as an audio interface works with my windows 11 laptop. Helix and focusrite work fine so it seems to be the sparks.

    Can this work if I plugged it in to an amp? I was thinking I could use the compression or delay from the RIff instead of a bunch of pedals

      it doesn't have a battery built it but it can be powered over USB through a battery pack/ipad/iphone

    the Bias FX 2 software seems to be really great software that i could see myself using when im practising, but the fact that positive grid seems dead set on absolutely NOT support Android devices is starting to be a little bit more than just a annoyance, i own nothing apple and i don't see my self spending a lot of money on an iPad that would only be used when i practice on top of the ipad price i would also need to get the Riff and the Bias FX 2 software, but now we're in close to the primium pedals 100$ for the Riff + 200$ for Bias fx pro and im not sure how many GB the software takes up but i can't get a too old Ipad if i want computing power enough to run amp, cab + a few effects so thats another 300$+ for the ipad (im sorry if the prices are not completly exact im estemating off of amazone, so you don't have to sit with a calculater and a currency exchance site) but for that kinda money i could get a nice enought brand spanking new multieffects pedal like the headrush MX5 or gig board, or a zoom 6b, a line pod go or the HOTONE ampero 2 stomp, i bet if i looked around i could get a nice Line 6 HX stomp,
    if you are already own apple products i could see this as a viable option especially an ipad, and yes i could still use Bias FX 2 on my computer, but im NOT dragging a stationary computer with me if i want to go practice somewhere else, and again buying a windows laptop that maybe could run Bias FX is not as expensive as an iPad but still,
    i don't know why it seems positive grid hates the Android platform, but im guessing they're eigher getting some kinda royalties from Apple to not, or they simply can't be bartered not expecting a large enough sale

      @sparkamptutorials2169  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry about that. I tried to explain it in terms relative to the Spark (since that is what my channel is about). But the reality is that it lets you plug your guitar (or bass or whatever) into your computer or phone to use software based amps and effects (like bias fx, or recording software)

      Peter and Jeff are correct! I mostly do tutorials on the Spark. But I've talked to Positive Grid a few times and they've asked me to be involved in some stuff, including the Riff.
